I'd like to think that my experience at MBTB was down to my exceptional appearance or personality, but the amount of customers they had while I was there would say otherwise. I found the duck and sausage gumbo to be incredible. The spice was perfect, for my taste, and I'd order it again in an instant. I also enjoyed the empanadas - they reminded me of Jamaican beef patties, and I really enjoyed them. Their preparation of red snapper was perfect, in my opinion. Their draft options are limited, but the staff was very helpful in choosing other drinks. They had two different bartenders in my visits, and I believe both tried very hard to make me happy, even though I was just a random walk-in. They had quite a few locals who got to-go orders during my visits, and everyone seemed very happy with their food. Desserts are all homemade, and are good, and very large, even if not what I would traditionally call by the same name. I don't do a lot of 5 star reviews...could say something about the places I frequent or how seriously I take a 5 star review! This was definitely worth the extra star, even if Yelp got with the 90's and allowed .5 stars it would be 5 worthy !! Stopped in late, just as they were closing...nice spot right on the Bay...although you wouldn't know it if you didn't drive up or live here...I guess you would know that... They were just closing the kitchen down and were only open till 8, I came in on the late side of 7:30! I ordered quick and got a drink, wanted a Manhattan but took some bourbon on the rocks in its place! Did some fried oysters, came with hush-puppies and two side! Did beans and fries, I have a thing about fried potatoes so I thought I would throw in a real vegetable! Food came out quick, perfectly done and so fresh! Beans were really good, fries were way better than regular fries but the oysters were the bomb! Fresh, perfectly fried with just a nice light batter! Always see a bunch of cars parked in front of this place when I drive by so I thought i would try it out. Turns out there are so many cars parked out front because they have no decent parking for their customers. It's certainly not because they have good food. Oysters were fried so hard I couldn't eat them. The onion rings were frozen bagged ones you can get at any grocery store and the gumbo was not fresh or tasty. The teeny tiny shrimp in the gumbo were like rubber balls. Anyone who thinks this is good food never had a Mother who could cook. Service was good and the waitress nice enough to take some items off my bill because she saw that the food wasn't eaten. She was honest enough to admit most of the food was frozen food not made or prepared in house. As if I couldn't tell anyways. We ate at Market By The Bay recently. The restaurant went through a change of ownership recently, and the new owners are the same who own Mancis. Same restaurant with the left side having service and the right side having carry out. For apps we ordered Gumbo and Crab Chowder. Both were delicious. For our main we ordered the Plate with 3 of Oysters, Shrimp and Grilled Red Grouper. For our two sides we ordered Cheese Grits and Okra. It was pretty good. The gumbo was particularly delicious. Now that Wacky Shrimp closed, this is our favorite place for seafood at a reasonable price. Love their gumbo, but hardly ever order the same thing twice b/c all of the menu looks great. We have never had anything bad here....fried flounder, fried shrimp, fried oysters, GUMBO and the desserts are gigantic. They have a bar on the other side of the restaurant for those who wish to indulge. The restaurant is kind of small but that doesn't seem to stop people from flocking to the door. Our dine in experience was great. The staff are friendly and service was fast! I ordered the catfish dinner and crab chowder. The food was fresh and seasoned to perfection. The fried pickles were very good as too! The location is smaller, so if you plan to have a group it may be a good idea to contact beforehand to see if they can accommodate. I have eaten here a couple of times and I can't remember the last YELP review I provide and I had to make time to do this after tonight's experience. They chef spent time with me and is really passionate about his craft. He has been their chef for over 20 years. He was thoughtful and made wonderful recommendation. The blackened catfish po boy, gumbo, and shrimp in a bag were very good, but the best thing was the chocolate peanut butter pie. They don't always have the pie, but you should get it if they do. There is a little store in the front which sells items to go like beer and desserts. The service was some of the best we had the entire trip. Cheryl was the nicest and funniest server who was extra helpful when trying to decide on entrees, substituting items, and making us feel right at home. LaJeune's Market by the Bay in Daphne, Alabama is the type of place you would ride by without a second glance, which would be a shame if you were to do so, because you would miss out on a pretty incredible meal. I stopped in here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and found the parking lot a bit small, especially when walking in and seeing the restaurant relatively quiet. The building has a strange, funky greenish blue exterior, but the inside dining area reminded me of the seafood shacks along the New Jersey shore that I grew up around. Ordering is a bit odd. You walk in a door to your right and place your order at a counter. If it is for takeout, it doesn't veer from the norm, but if you want to dine in, you walk back outside and enter a door to your left, which leads you to a pleasant enough dining area. For lunch I ordered a shrimp po' boy and a side, which was a daily special for $9.99. For my side, I opted for french fries (in hindsight maybe a bit too much fried goodness). When it was brought to me, I was impressed with the size and after a few bites, I found that the quality matched the quantity. This was a very good lunch.
