This general store is bigger than it appears from the outside, comprising two connected spaces. It has some food items and the sort of supplies you'd want for a trip to the nearby island. The markup is pretty high, but they've kind of got the market cornered here. It's walking distance from the boat dock to the national park. Working in their favor is the fact that they carry interesting and local brands of nuts and things, and there's plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. I didn't find everything I wanted (notably not much in the way of vegetarian protein-rich foods), but it was definitely a plus that I found some sort of store here. read more

Super cute- and very packed to the gills general store! Trinkets, local swag, candy, kids apparel and toys, a pet corner, ice cream, fudge.... Just a huge modge-podge of merchandise! I picked a tiny trinket- giftie for one of my best friends- a happy little camper trinket. Hubby snagged another St Marys magnet! We were tempted by so much more! I wanted one of the artisan mugs so badly- but we have too many mugs already! This is the greatest little shop! The variety they carry is incredible. Always a great place to grab gifts for all occasions (hostess gifts, birthday, back-to-school, holidays). They have great seasonal items, home decor, t-shirts, local souvenirs, things for the dog/cat lover (and the dog/cat!!), kids, and even babies. The ice cream, fudge, and pralines (on Fridays) are great! This is one of my favorite stores in the county! read more

This precious shop is a must see if you are visitor to St. Mary's. It is a favorite of the locals for ice cream and candy. It is my go to for cute and unique gifts that can be packaged bright and cheerful paper in bag. I have shipped things throughout the country. We came here on a day trip from JAX and what a cute place this was! We were on our way to check out Jekyll Island for my birthday, but I think I liked this place better. Really cute and a great selection of items carried in this gem of a store! Great service and super friendly staff. Of course, I left with a delicious $5 slice of handmade chocolate walnut fudge! Market on Square was by far my most favorite store visited in this area! It was jam packed with such fun, nostalgic and unique items. This is a great place to check out if you want to buy souvenirs and even if you just want to buy something for yourself. My friend and I had so much fun in the store!! I purchased a ton of old school nostalgic candies that brought back so many memories. I also picked up some cute accessories and bags. The prices were all reasonable and if I had this store close by - I think I would be in there every week! The woman that was working behind the register was nice and you could tell that she enjoyed watching me have so much fun LOL. They served ice cream inside so we got a cone on the way out of the store...little did we know that every other store had a sign on it saying you couldn't come in with ice cream LOL. If you are in the area, I definitely think you should stop by and check this store out. I see it appealing to ladies and children primarily. The town was so quiet and parking was super easy. My belief in general is, if I can't say something nice, I don't say anything. This is my first ever, negative review. Was nicely offered help when first walked in. I asked for plain envelopes: they didn't have. That's fine, asked if they had soap. She asked what kind. When I told her, another woman walked up, promptly & curtly stating: We aren't a grocery store! No need to say any more. We are visiting here in St. Mary's. Know nothing about the town except that it's a tourist town for the Cumberland Island National Seashore. We have loved everything about the Riverview Hotel & the people who run it: the Seagle's Restaurant, is outstanding & the Land & Legacy Tour to Cumberland Island was super. Market on the Square could be the best "gift shop" ever, but we'll never know. Oh, & they do serve ice cream - which was the third item we "were" going to buy. We could have been encouraged to shop for goodies as well. Very disappointing! read more

Stopped by Market on the Square to gather lunch before heading to Cumberland island. Pimento cheese sandwiches were delicious and came with chips. We also had lattes that made the morning much better. The service was fast despite only one girl working behind the counter. Super convenient to the ferry terminal! read more

Cute store with friendly faces! This little gift shop has variety of cute local things featuring Saint Marys and Cumberland Island. Some southern and coastal decor as well but nothing uniquely handmade or done by local artists. Fudge and ice cream are also available and there are a couple bistro tables outside to enjoy your treat. read more

Very rude and don't plan on coming here again. I ordered two lunch sacks for the cruise and two muffins and two coffees. It almost like we are asking to much. Plus they were out of everything and its only 1030am. Not like they sold out...very slow here and over priced. read more

Took my son, daughter, and niece there Sun 2/22/15 for ice cream and fudge. Very friendly helpful young dark haired lady helped us out. 5 minutes and $21 dollars later we left to sit on the waterfront across the street. Just outside the door my 6yr old daughter had a "I have to go pee!" emergency so my 14 yr old niece to her inside. My 6yr old asked to use the restroom from a different employee who sternly told her the "public" bathrooms were a block away. My daughter left crying and had an accident while we made the RUN down the block. It spoiled her day, brought her to tears and ended our father/daughter (+2) outing. They serve things to eat and drink, they share half the building with a cafe and customers cannot wash their hands and little girls can't go potty! UNACCEPTABLE.Those who would treat the young this callously most assuredly do not care about the rest of us. read more

Charged my credit card twice and then had the audacity, after I went outside, to ask my friend to pay cash for my purchase. If it smells like a duck.... BUYER BEWARE. UPDATE..... This establishment charged my debit card TEN TIMES for the purchase of 5 sodas - $17.60. STILL trying to get the charges reversed. STAY AWAY from this place. They will steal your money!!! read more

Our group ordered boxed lunches from Market on the Square for our day trip to Cumberland Island a few weeks ago. The food was delicious, especially the chocolate chip cookies!
