What ever reason you are looking for a bakery, this is the place We were asked to bring the dinner rolls and pies for Thanksgiving dinner but we are new to the area and were not familiar with what bakery options surrounded us. Their pumpkin pie was the MOST flavorful pumpkin pie I have ever had, and the crust was light, delicate and crisp. Better than any pumkin pie I have had in my 55 years! Huge hit at our family gathering. We also purchased their rolls - also amazing! And a raspberry cheesecake. Everyone requested a slice of both because they couldn't decide between the two, and they were equally amazing and loved by everyone. As it happened, they also had a selection of cards on display so I was able to buy my Aunt a birthday card who I was going to see on Thanksgiving day. It was a one shop stop and they offer the highest quality selection of baked goods, pies and cakes. Many people at the counter remarked that this is the only place they come. Great cafe for lunch and a study break on my drive from Portland back up to Seattle. It's about halfway from Portland to Seattle, and there's plenty of street parking out front up and down the street. This bakery has wifi, so I was able to get some solid studying done. There are lots of tables to sit at, as well as some comfy chairs by the windows. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I ordered a roasted vegetable panini, which was amazing, an almond croissant, and a mint chocolate chip cookie, which other reviewers rave about. I loved the sandwich, since I love roasted veggies, melty cheese, and they had this great pesto mayo sauce on it which just made it even better, all on crispy toasted bread. The almond croissant was underwhelming. It had good almond paste and flavor on the inside, but the pastry itself was chewy, not crispy or flaky like a really good laminated pastry usually is. I was honestly underwhelmed by the mint chocolate chip cookie. I prefer my cookies a little softer, and these seemed almost a tad overbrowned. Overall, great little bakery to stop by off I-5 on a roadtrip, and the sandwiches were great. I also had a sample of the baguette and it was amazing. Amazing to arrive in a tiny town such as Chehalis and find a bakery where they bake everything on site! Enjoyed wandering towards the back where you can see the bread being made. My husband and I came in to give it a try and we stood at the counter for at least 10 minutes until someone acknowledged us. When the did they told us it would be a few minutes to take our order. Well 10 more minutes later no one even attempted to take our order, so we walked out. If the place was packed I could understand it but there were only a few customers at the tables. During this pandemic one hopes that small businesses would care about their customers and staff.....apparently Market Street Bakery seems not to! I went in today and none of the staff were wearing masks. No signage about masks or social distancing. This is all DESPITE notification last week from Gov Inslee that we should be wearing masks. Huge fail for this business. Yes, they make great bakery items, but alas, it matters not if you catch COVID and end up on a ventilator after you buy your pastry! #FAIL read more

However, after placing a larger order two days in advance and receiving a confirmation of this order and the pick up time, when we arrived to pick up said order, we were told that, "oops, so sorry, we sold your order to someone else." And they could do nothing to accommodate us. Is this how a business is run????!!!??? I contacted the owner to provide feedback in case he was not aware of this situation. At first, I was told to wait for owner to come to the phone and then told that he was not available and that he would return my call. No phone call as of yet... Still waiting... I've tried every cafe in Centralia/Chehalis and so far this one is the best flavor wise, I don't know why it's so hard to find above average food in this area but Market Street Bakery is superb. I've had a lot of danishes in my life but theirs are the best. The dough is wonderful. I've never had one like theirs. Their bread is also delicious and they don't use unhealthy oils in their breads which is hard to find. I get the sourdough uncut and it is great. The cookies are also better than most bakeries. We tried the mint chocolate cookies, peanut butter cookies, chocolate macaroons, a couple other desserts made with nuts (I don't know they names) but ALL of them were sooo delicious. Yummy! Desserts and pastries are delicious. Tiramisu is a rare thing they make, so if you see it get it! One of my favorite things there. All of the bread is good, but the flavored semolinas and rye are exceptional! Sourdough as well. Also the reason they are closed on the weekends is because of 2 reasons - the owners are religious and do not believe in working on saturdays, also we get A LOT of business from the local banks, library, law offices, and courthouse which are closed on the weekends. Many other places we get business from along that street are also closed on the weekend. It's too bad I know, but they it doesn't really make sense for the business. They are open for half a day 1 saturday of the year, during the santa parade in december. The owner's do not come in to bake bread, so they only serve hot drinks and the refrigerated desserts. If there are a lot of people they sometimes serve lunch for a couple hours on that one saturday. Truly is the best bread around AND its cheaper than safeway! Ya know, the food is good but it is very pricey for a bakery/deli place where you walk up to a counter to place your food, and get your own silverware etc. I do think the food is delish but not for the price. I have stopped going there because of the prices. It can always be a long wait to get your order taken and served during lunch hours. Market Street Baker did a stunning job on our wedding cake, I highly recommend this bakery!!! We also had cheesecake at our wedding from this bakery and it was delicious. They have many cheesecake flavors you can order and of the 4 we tried, all were amazing. The owner was so flexible and accommodating and made our day truly special. In addition, we ordered 200 biscotti for our guests and she packaged each one individually and sealed with our custom stickers. I can't say enough great things about this family owned bakery. I have only had the food twice (since I live in Portland and not in town), but both times the sandwiches were tasty and they always have a case full of delicious pastries if you have a sweet tooth. They left us hanging for days about a cake order, only for them to say they won't make it after we finally called THEM, since they never got back to us! Just let people know that two weeks is not enough time to make a simple round cake in one of your standard flavors. That way, they still have enough time to find a replacement bakery and that bakery has enough time to make it.
