Hard pressed to find fall off the bone ribs like Marks serves anywhere in the area. Not cheap but worth the $$. Ordered some take-out for our Friday evening. It was a very simple and easy process. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was greeted and shown where the Carry-Out area was. The servers were extremely friendly, and the food was ready upon arrival. The Barbecue chicken meal was hot and prepared well. The portions were good for the price. We also ordered a chicken fingers basket. The chicken was overcooked and was very rubbery. Overall the experience was well, but definitely would not get the chicken fingers basket for an adult. read more

I had a craving for pasta salad so I was pointed towards MFS for their chicken pasta salad. I have to say it was delicious! I also got the salmon burger, a side item plate and a side salad for later on. I know from past experience they are all very good. The online ordering process for curbside pickup was simple, no complaints there. The waitress that brought the orders out was AWESOME! It was raining but she still came out friendly and quickly. I would say with a smile on her face, but she was wearing a protective mask so I cannot confirm nor deny. Mark's Feed Store is like most BBQ joints--simple and to the point, food and service. While I will admit that I am not a big fan of BBQ. But I have found more than a few things here that I enjoy and crave. I especially like their version of the Burgoo. It is the best thing to have in the dead of winter gray. It is hot and spicy and thick like a really good hug in the cold weather. I recently discovered their seasonal offering of White Chicken Chili. It does not look like much: white chunks of chicken in a broth with piles of onions and white beans. But I am so glad I ordered it. It, too is a big warm hug. It is spicy without the dreaded burn to the mouth. Give me a bowl of that plus an order of honey wings and I will have a great meal in the cold. read more

I believe it has been 30 years since I've been / negative reaction/memory to the restaurant. We stopped in the Fern Creek location hoping to catch the Jeff Walz show. Despite getting there early, the place was packed. We sat at a table in the next section over, preferring it to the booths and community table, even if we could have found a couple of seats together. Our waitress, Cheyenne, was outstanding. She was knowledgeable about the menu, and was able to make recommendations and answer questions for both myself and my wife. She knew we were there for the radio show and never once rushed us, but was also incredibly attentive. Drinks refilled without being requested. My wife enjoyed a giant pulled pork sandwich, while I enjoyed a BBQ sampler. Everything was well prepared and we enjoyed our entrees and sides. What eeally surprised me was their brisket. Tender, juicy, and extremely flavorful. I will have to return in the near future for a full order of that brisket, and the addictive wings! read more

Pulled pork and beef brisket, with a side of chicken pasta and mashed potatoes. The pork is average. The brisket was slightly below average. Hence the BBQ sauce flavored poot. The meat needed help. The fish, however, is spectacular. The chicken pasta is wonderful. The buttermilk pie is hard to beat. This should be a solid indication to you - the Louisville BBQ scene is marginal. Excellent place for barbecue, fish and burgers. The atmosphere is very casual. You are greeted by the hostess as you enter. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the fish, the hamburgers or the wings. You can't go wrong with any one of them. Very tasty. They have a Sunday lunch buffet for $16 that will allow a sampling of brisket, fish, and pulled pork along with a variety of sides. It gets very busy on Sundays so be aware. Be sure to mention it is your first time visiting and you will get a free piece of their buttermilk pie (it is super sweet), a free bottle of bbq sauce and a discount card as well. I have been to Marks many times before, as I'm sure that most of us who grew up in Louisville have, but I am just now reviewing it for some reason. Marks is consistently good. I like everything on the menu but the true standout for me are the Honey Wings. They are a little bit spicy, a little bit sweet, and a whole lotta delicious! The price point is just right and Marks certainly doesn't skimp on portions so I always have leftovers. Also of note, the Marks in Fern Creek has a buffet on Sunday from 11:00-3:00. Although the buffet doesn't contain my beloved Honey Wings, many of Marks other favorites are on the bill including the brisket, pork, and lemon pepper catfish. I'm a huge fan of BBQ and this isn't my favorite BBQ but their food is good, their service excellent, and they always deliver on exactly what they said they'd provide. They have excellent pre-planned catered "picnics" and if I had a brain in my head I'd use them but they come with food my friends and I don't eat but invariably I forget the food we DO eat (last night we didn't have buns, hon) and so I'd rather bring an uneaten pie to the homeless than to not have bread for a much anticipated brisket sandwich. So I came with my uncle because he hasn't been here in a while so we came it was good. I had a pork sandwich with fries and my meat was warm but I was still able to eat it and I was okay. My uncle has wings with straw onions and corn. He said it was good and I liked the straw onions (even though I don't like onion rings or anything in that nature). Overall good experience! I didn't feel rushed while eating and the staff was friendly. I'm giving marks 4 stars because of the meat but I would rate them as a 4.5. I went for the buttermilk pie, and it did not disappoint. I had been to Mark's a few years ago, and loved that pie. Even tried to duplicate it at home, and came pretty close. But my namesake restaurant does it best. Stopped by with Sweetie while on the way home, and got there long enough before closing to enjoy a light meal. Well, I enjoyed the pie, and she liked her brisket sandwich. I was disappointed in my pulled pork sandwich- very bland and dry meat, not even improved much with a dousing of assorted sauces. Still, the pie made up for it, and I should have stuck with my standard ribs. Service was good, price was fair, and if I'm in the area again I'll definitely be back. read more

I've only been here twice but both times I was somewhat disappointed. The food is surprisingly ordinary and both times were were here the service was slow, prone to mistakes and several times we had to track down our service who would forget us or forget to bring ordered items. Food was not served together so some people in our group were finished eating while others were just getting their meals. Drinks were not refilled unless we asked. Finally at the end of the meal after we informed the waitress we were ready for our check we waited another 20 minutes and then had to go find her and ask again. Then it took another 15 minutes for her to bring back the check for us to sign it. Now I remember why I go elsewhere, there are several better BBQ joints within about 20 minutes of here. It could be southern hospitality but great food and service is more. And at Marks Feed and Grain more was returning after a wonderful dinner the next day for lunch. Great ribs with lots of tender meat falling off the bone, the crispest, sweetest honey soaked chickens wings ever, causing Brain Palate disfunction that only ended when my full light came on. The pulled pork was tender but the Brisket was a tad dry. Mark also provides 3 bottles of there BBQ sauces at the table, 1 mustard based and 2 reds, 1 sweeter and less spicy than the other I did bath my ribs in the former. I would have given Marks a 5 except for the Brisket, awesome baked beans and green beans, 5 on service, 5 for management attention to customers, 5 complimentary bottle of sauce, did I mention that there hot fudge Sunday was a 5 as well, what the hell I'm changing my rating to 5 from 4 7/8. read more

I live in the Fern Creek area but have visited the other Mark's Feed store locations as well. This one is by far the biggest location of all of them! Also, this is the only Mark's Feed Store currently that has a buffet option every other Sunday. It's like $15 for pretty much everything on the menu (except ribs) and for things NOT on the menu. I go for some of those things not normally on the menu specifically at times. Try the buffet- it's so good! Also- the place is big, it's very clean, and the location has enough parking. This location also currently added some tv's in one part of the dining room nearest the carryout/bar area. Also- I went once for lunch and was happy that they did have really cheap quick lunch specials. This location is just about 2 minutes from the Gene Snyder exit ( Exit 17) and about 15 minutes from the Watterson Exit ( Bardstown Rd) read more

I just want to take the time to let you all know that the service at Mark's Feed Store is amazing. My husband and I ordered our family dinner off of DoorDash, and when only half of our order was delivered, we called the store asking what to do. As it happens, the Doordash employee only picked up one out of our two bags. Even though it was not the responsibility of the Mark's Feed Store workers to bring us our food, without question, they asked us our address, and someone got in their car to bring it to us. Not a good visit overall. Starting with the drinks something was off with the carbonation or something. Tried two different sodas with same problem. Pulled pork was good but the bun was wet and soggy. Tried the brownie Sunday dessert and the brownie in the bottom of the glass consisted of hard crumbs. A trustworthy source for good food. Their BBQ isn't out of this world in my opinion (wife absolutely loves it) but I know when I come here, I will get good service and good food. We've never been disappointed. Plenty of choices on the kids menu makes it a good choice for our little ones too. The meats are very light smoke flavor and they have three different sauces to choose from. A variety of sides to compliment the BBQ, I normally opt for baked beans and potato salad, both are delicious. If you're wanting to switch it up and avoid pulled pork or ribs, try the honeywings! I didn't realize when they list a "nest" of onion straws that you actually get a pile about the size of an actual bird's nest! The honey chicken wings are absolutely fantastic! My husband thought his brisket was too dry but they did replace it immediately with ribs when he mentioned it. The ribs were what he should have ordered in the first place! It was actually a little hard to eat them as a knife wasn't needed and the only reason you need a fork is to scoop up what's slid off the bone. For the price, you get a lot of really good food and quick, polite service. This is the second Mark's I've been to and they were both great places for lunch and dinner. Picked up a go order from here and it was the first time getting anything from this place. It will be the last. We got pulled chicken and it was dry really nothing slightly special about it. Fries and Cole slaw that accompanied the chicken were adequate and nothing special. Staff was good and quick and the place was clean and well organized. Went on a Friday night, the food was amazing, some of the best BBQ I've had, however the service was some of the worst/nonexistent I've ever experienced. We walked in with a party of 2 at approximately 8pm, and were seated immediately. We then sat for over 15 minutes, watching 4 other tables be sat & served before anyone even acknowledged us. After notifying the hostess, she went to our server who had been standing approximately 15 feet away & looking at us the entire time we'd been sitting there. She immediately greeted us, took our drink & appetizer orders, returned promptly & took our dinner orders, This was the last time we saw her until we needed our check. The entrees beat the side salad by almost 10 minutes, then I sat with an empty Coke cup for at least 30 minutes. No one ever checked on us or offered any service. When we asked for the check we also asked for a to go box & to go cup for a soft drink, the box & check came but it then took over 10 minutes for the to go cup to arrive. I definitely recommend Mark's for the food, however I believe you'd be better served if you ordered carry out & served yourself on the sidewalk. read more
