Went on a Friday night, the food was amazing, some of the best BBQ I've had, however the service was some of the worst/nonexistent I've ever experienced. We walked in with a party of 2 at approximately 8pm, and were seated immediately. We then sat for over 15 minutes, watching 4 other tables be sat & served before anyone even acknowledged us. After notifying the hostess, she went to our server who had been standing approximately 15 feet away & looking at us the entire time we'd been sitting there. She immediately greeted us, took our drink & appetizer orders, returned promptly & took our dinner orders, This was the last time we saw her until we needed our check. The entrees beat the side salad by almost 10 minutes, then I sat with an empty Coke cup for at least 30 minutes. No one ever checked on us or offered any service. When we asked for the check we also asked for a to go box & to go cup for a soft drink, the box & check came but it then took over 10 minutes for the to go cup to arrive. I definitely recommend Mark's for the food, however I believe you'd be better served if you ordered carry out & served yourself on the sidewalk. read more

Mark's BBQ is not my favorite, so when a family member introduced me to the lemon pepper fish, I was ecstatic. Hands down one of the best fried fish sandwiches I've ever had. The sit-down service is okay. Orders can take a while, and with a young child the meal can go downhill pretty quickly. I've started ordering carry out whenever I get a hankering for a fish sandwich. My carry out orders are always correct and the employees at the counter are great. Their free dessert night is my favorite night of the week. read more

Recently placed a take out order. For 4 meals I got home after picking up my order and one of the dinners was missing. So when i called to tell them i was missing my order i was placed on hold 3 different times. Also on the dinner I had asked for extra brisket which I didnt recieve or charged but when I came back to pick up my missing order and asked on the phone to have the extra brisket they had to charge me the extra 2.74. I dont mind paying for extra stuff or options but when you mess up and forget something should have been taken care of. Especially when your extremely rude and acting like you did nothing wrong and just say want to talk to my manager. Poor and sub par service. An apology or simply I'm sorry could have made this experience better. Even left a 10 percent tip just for you all to place a take out order and put them in a bag. I was thoroughly impressed by my experience at Mark's. I am not a Louisville native, but have heard a lot of good things about this place. I have attempted to go the Middletown location several times, but never the shoehorn and grease needed to get in there. The Fern Creek location was perfect! I have eaten barbeque around the nation from Black's in Texas to Rendezvous in Memphis. Mark's ribs match any that I've had in Memphis and are the best in Louisville. The pulled pork was subtle. I appreciate that Mark's doesn't hide behind sauces or rubs. The pork was just simply well smoked. I would say it is second best in Louisville, though it is extremely close to #1. I have a tour that I give to visiting friends and family, and Mark's will now be on that tour. By the way, ask to be seated in Laura's section. I have rarely had a more attentive server. And she was sweet and informative too. The atmosphere, from decor to music to serving utensils, was what one would expect of any good bbq joint. The food and service were fantastic! We had the combo #1 with sweet potato fries and potato salad. The honey wings and ribs were fantastic! We really enjoyed the fried pickles and onion straws. The service was 5 stars, but I wasn't impressed with the food. The brisket was dry, and I'm not a fan of any of their sauces. I loved the cornbread and got a basket to go. The green beans were surprisingly bland considering they had pork and onion in them. I liked the Mac and cheese, but it wasn't anything special. I do wish more restaurants had such great service though. My server went above and beyond, even telling me that he would replace my food if I didn't like it since he knew it was my first time here. I chose not to get something different, and I took my leftovers with me, but I won't order the brisket again. If you get a chance, ask for Jeff. He makes it worth the trip. read more

My coworker ordered catering here for my team. We schedule to pick it up around 10:45-10:50, which even though they don't open until 11, they were able to do. when we went to pick up food (saves 30ish dollars for catering), the door was unlocked so we could get inside, but once inside, none of the workers acknowledged our presence, even when we walked up to the cash register. We were able to get a response from a cook coming out of the kitchen. The BBQ was really good, so were the pies as well. The green bean, in my opinion (and this is my review so it's pretty much all my opinion) were gross. Watery, soggy, and tasteless. I hope to give Mark's a second try soon, so I can try different sides, because they looked really good. read more

I can't believe the last time I reviewed this place I gave it a poor rating. Things are so much better now! I've only been a dine-in customer once or twice since then, but carryout is just the best. Even if it's been a few months since my last visit, the server almost always remembers me. Everyone is just super sweet and if I'm waiting for an item to be fried (which they do when I pick it up) at least one person stops by in the interim to make sure I've been helped. The location is great, the place is clean, and the food is so good. Yay, Mark's! I will also note that they also do really well with Door Dash- not all restaurants do, but they let you ask for different sauces (which I like) and they have always gotten the order right and it's prepared in a timely manner. I think most of the time that we've ordered Mark's for delivery, either at work or at home, we receive it a few minutes before we were expected to! read more

A truly wonderful BBQ experience. They contain a buffet but only certain hours, however do not be off put by this, for all their food is great. I ordered the rib basket with spicy fries and will come back for more. The staff is great as well, you can tell when you walk through the door that it is a great atmosphere. Stopped in for late lunch. I was seated right away. My server was very friendly and took my order right away. I never had to ask for a drink refill. I ordered the Salmon burger which was a first for me. The meal was hot, prepared correctly and served very quickly. Waitress was one of the best I've had anywhere... Really good. However, I asked if hamburgers were handmade with real hamburger patties and she said yes. They are not... They are bubba burger style hamburgers... The sauces are ok and the ranch dipping sauce is fantastic. I had a brisket sandwich which was ok but too salty (dripping sauce on it probably responsible), the real negative was the portion size was too small for $10. The meat barely exposed itself from the bread. Homemade Chips were good but over seasoned. I also had the potato salad, which was made with red potatoes (which I dont care for). Drink portions are very large which is good for me. Desert sundae tasted good but was also small in portion. 2 drinks, cheeseburger, brisket sandwich with two sides and a sundae was $23 without tip. $30 with. It has the corporate resources, but stays a family-friendly, personable place to eat for roughly $10 per person. Menu isn't the largest, but if you have special requests or dietary limitations, they can be worked with. The homemade potato salad is the absolute best! I called in an order at 11:35 am for 2 picnic dinners that serve 10 people. Arrived to pick it up at 1:30 pm and was told they had no record of the order! When I told her that I had several people at my house expecting lunch, the server preceded to lie to me and said she did have the order and started to recite my request of items that I wanted to switch out. I informed her that I did not request to switch out any items from the order and that I had called the order in over 2 hrs ago. She preceded to quickly get the food together and made a snide comment to another server about people's attitudes. To be voted louisville's best ribs, they weren't very impressive. Taste was good, but had to pry them apart with knife and fork. The salmon burger left a lot to be desired as well, last time I checked a salmon steak was not round. ..it reminded me of the dreaded chicken pattys from high school lunch. Ok, so we order 4 1 gallon containers for Easter. We always loved the red potato salad but oh my lord, the potatoes weren't done and only cut in half so it was as if you were eating a whole potato. I know they get busy for the holidays but just don't do it if it can't be done right! Then I have to complain about the FLIMSY containers that bend when you try to get them out of the oven and here it's hot and the containers fold in on you, so you loose half your stuff and try not to get burnt badly! Please invest in stronger containers or you are going to loose customers if you haven't already. Got some last year and didn't complain thinking it was a fluke. I've had pork belly with less fat on it. admittedly I am picky about smoked meats and know very well what goes into doing a good brisket. Stopped by with my husband and I am so glad we did! Bree our waitress was awesome! We ordered fried pickles, ribs, brisket, corn on the cob, fries, and pasta salad. Everything was delicious!!! The ribs are perfect fall off the bone. I loved the red BBQ sauce! Since it was our first time we hot free dessert and the caramel crunch sundae was out of this world. I'm still thinking about it!!!
