4++ as a food tourist, I read somewhere that I needed to try some burgoo (a thick stew consisting of meat and vegetables that originated in Kentucky). The location I originally planned on visiting (closer to Whiskey Row in Louisville) literally closed a couple of days before I came into town. Not a big deal. I found this location and it was on the road and on the way of my drive to Indianapolis. When I walked in, I was greeted by the friendliest person and was seated in a booth. My server came over and I apologize, but I forget the young lady's name - I think it was Chloe (or Zoey?) - but she was just so attentive and pleasant. I ordered the (brisket) sandwich and burgoo combo. It came out pretty quickly. The burgoo was a good 'stick to your ribs' type of dish and the sandwich was tasty. There are two types of BBQ sauce on the table to add to the sandwich depending on your preference. Really solid meal overall. A lot of food for a reasonable price too! I got a box for most of my sandwich so I can enjoy later that evening. The service style here is a full service sit down restaurant, but vibe is still pretty casual. Feels like one of those restaurants where you don't want to cook, but you want a delicious hot meal that won't break the bank. For the longest time I thought mark feed store was a supply store. No one I knew had ever been at the time. Once I started working at my current job was the first time I went there for lunch. I will say good brisket each time. And the fries and very good. On my stress day I'll pop by just to get fries with seasoning. read more

Walked in the place a carry out order. The sweet kiddo at the counter was awesome! Personable, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Food came out quick and hot. Unfortunately, the food is just not good anymore. Ordered the pork, slaw, & potato salad. The pork was moist but the taste was just not enjoyable, at all. Restaurant is located in a business strip near Kohl's store off of Charlestown Road. Plenty of parking. Noise level is mild to moderate with the sealed concrete floors and a full house amplifying sound. Food is consistently good and, even though I'm tempted to try different items, I always seem to repeat the pulled pork sandwich (tender morsels on a bun and seasoned perfectly) and a plain baked sweet potato (melt in your mouth candy-like goodness). I went to their website and placed the order. At the restaurant they didn't find me, but said I had placed a Grub Hub order - NO WAY! And they said the 20% tip didn't go to the restaurant, plus Grub Hub added 10% per item. I contacted Grub Hub, they claim the tip goes to the restaurant, but the added cost is for their service - RIP OFF! So IF you order on line read the small print so you don't get taken. This was probably the best food I've had in my entire life. I ordered Brisket on a bun with onion straws and coleslaw and it all was superb. Let me start by saying food was 5 stars all around! However, our server Tasha, was not. My mom and I stopped in for Louisville burger week. The burger was delicious! Pickles and onion straws on top with the perfect amount of Mark's bbq sauce. I had a side of sweet potato fries which were perfectly crisp. Check in to yelp and you get a free slice of buttermilk pie. Flaky, and oh so gooey. Delicious. Unfortunately, our server was so rude. Terrible terrible terrible, I had the absolute worst brisket sandwich of my entire life on March 3, 2024. Unbelievably dry and tough. It was about 530 PM and not very busy I believe the brisket must have been cut at the lunch service and kept under a heat lamp all day. That's the only way I can conceive that it was able to get that dry and hard and chewy The individual strands of meat were actually like fibers. the bread was also dried out. We were happy to find Mark's has embraced curbside service. We ordered lunch today and the service was great and cheerful! If I rated only the curbside experience it would be 5 stars. We both had ribs with a side salad and potato salad. Most all my family are big fans of Mark's potato salad, we love it. Once again the potato salad was delicious. The salads were pretty standard fare, but we felt the portion was generous, especially for take out. The ribs were a mix of pretty good and not so good. The thicker ribs were good, however the ribs at the end of the rack were thinner and cooked to the point of resembling jerky. The last couple ribs at the end were so tough and dry they were almost unedible. We are fans of Mark's, and due to their embracing curbside service, we will make them a regular stop for lunch. read more

If you like a laid back atmosphere and great food then Mark's is the place. Consistently serving some of the best barbecue in the area. I love the pulled pork brisket sandwich topped with a pickle and onion. The sauce you choose is on the table, be forewarned the hot sauce is precisely that...HOT! You'll need water (not soda) to calm your palate. Your sandwich is served with fries and the portions are great. They have my favorite fried pickles and some of the best potato salad I've ever eaten. You can order a large meal if you are hungry, it'll come with three sides or you can go bigger and order combination platters. Great ribs if you want to get messy, good ribs should require lots of napkins, Mark's has a whole roll of paper towels at the table, that's a sign of goodness! It's a great place with a friendly staff. They have carry out if you'd rather take it home and catering if you are having a event too big to worry about cooking. My family and I end up here about once a month. It's a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner, and they have some good items. The lemon pepper fish is good, although I could see how some people might think it's a little too salty. Sweet potato fries are good. The potato salad and chicken pasta salad are two must-have sides. The sweet tea is some of the best around. They have several awesome desserts, my favorite being the buttermilk crunch. It's basically a sundae with a piece of buttermilk pie crumbled in vanilla ice cream, drizzled generously with caramel. The side salad is simple with cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, and dressing, but it's always great. The onion straws and fried pickles are both tasty appetizers, although sometimes they are a little greasier than I prefer. One night a week kids eat free, and another night they offer free dessert. My main complaint here is lack of consistency. The two main entrees I eat are the barbeque cheeseburger and the ribs. Sometimes the burger is cooked perfectly and is really juicy, other times it has been dry. The ribs are the same way, sometimes they are very tender and great, other times they are chewy and overcooked. The pulled chicken and pork are usually good but definitely need sauce. My mother-in-law loves their brisket, but it's a very lean brisket and I personally find it too dry. Overall, nice place to enjoy a meal, and we will be back. read more

This place is *IT*!! I ordered the Lemon Pepper Fried Fish sandwich and was SO pleased! I also had a side of green beans, baked potato, and a brownie. The portions were fantastic and I absolutely loved the flavor. I ordered from them off DoorDash and was so happy. I plan on reordering very soon. The flavor and texture of the sandwich was spot on. I really liked packing the baked potato with butter and sour cream which was provided. The green beans had been soaked in brisket and even had small brisket bits in it. Lately I've been on this thing for some really incredible, mind-blowing, mmm--mmm good fish sandwich in the Kentuckiana area. I've find a couple of places I'd revisit, so I thought I'd try Mark's Feedstore. Although its focus is BBQ, I heard they've nailed the fish sandwich. And I have to concur! I ordered the fish platter that came with two gigantic fish fillets and two sides. My sides were the baked beans, green beans, and the red potato salad. I also ordered the Buttermilk Pie since I've read great reviews about it. Fish Fillets - they were huge! The breading was very, very light and perfectly complemented the fish. The fish is also very meaty. Now...I personally prefer my fish to be fried a bit harder / firmer, but the way they prepared it was just as fine. I would definitely recommend and return for myself, but might ask to cook a little longer for my personal taste. Baked Beans - these beans had added meat, which is always a plus, and were flavorful. Green Beans - pretty tasty also. My mom ate them, so they had to be good. Otherwise, she would have pushed them aside with a quickness! Red Potatoe Salad - I really enjoyed this salad. It's a lot different to what I'm accustomed to, but its unique taste is a winner. It is mayonnaise based, but not as heavily as you might typically find. The best way I can describe it is that you really get the opportunity to taste the red potatoe with a hint of the mayonnaise base. With the additional seasonings included, the end product is simply delicious. Apparently this is a popular sell because it comes in a variety of sizes, which is clearly posted in their restaurant - see pics. While I was waiting for my to-go order to be complete at least two other customers came to pick up their call-ahead order of potatoe salad to accommodate large parties. Buttermilk Pie - it's a small pie, but considering how sweet it is I'd say that's a good thing. I've never had a Buttermilk Pie before or even heard of it. But it is quite delicious and very moist. Customer Service - excellent. The young lady that took my order was very prompt, forthcoming in volunteering helpful information while placing my first-time visit order, well-informed of the menu, and congenial. The young lady at the hostess stand was also friendly, congenial and talkative. The restaurant was "very" clean and had many dine-in customers and several pick-up orders. I'm glad I finally tried this restaurant. I've seen it many times during my travels over the past two years and although I've always been curious I never made the decision to stop in. So, thanks to my Yelp community I was influenced to finally put my car in park in front of their restaurant. So glad I did! read more

The absolutely worst bbq I have ever eaten comes from Marks! I gave it a 2nd. Chance because my spouse said it was good in New Albany. Previously I ate at the E Town Marks - also very bad! We ordered a 6 rib plate and Brisket basket. My spouse had Mac n Cheese and slaw as sides, I had fried corn and green beans. Upon receiving my brisket I observed without tasting a dry burnt piece of flesh - yuck - I didn't hesitate and sent it back - if I had been the manager I would have been to the table to check out the challenges and the discounted the customer's ticket Nope - no attempt at customer recovery. The replacement - while not as dry (dried out) looked better but didn't taste any better. We recently went to Marks Feed Store for lunch. There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children. It was peak lunch time and the place was packed. Our name was immediately taken and there was bench seating in the wait area available. They told us the wait would be about 10 minutes and it was. We were seated in one of the larger corner booths. Our server was prompt in getting our drink order and also explaining questions we had about the menu options. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. They were hot, crisp and came with 2 options of dips. The serving was large enough for all 8 of us to have several. The lunch menu offers some specials on barbeque sandwiches pork, chicken, or brisket(a little more for this) and 1 or 2 sides. Or you can get just the barbeque pork, chicken, or brisket without being on a sandwich. The barbeque comes plain and you have 3 choices of sauce to add. The barbeque is tender and good enough to eat without any sauce if that is the way you like it. They also have ribs, chicken tenders and fried fish on the menu but we all went for the barbeque. The side choices are, in my opinion, where their menu stands out. They have potato salad, baked sweet potato, sweet fried corn on the cob, baked beans, chicken pasta salad, baked apples, baked potato, cole slaw, fries or chips. I love the fried corn on the cob and the baked apples. My son-in-law always gets the sweet potato and spicy fries. When the server asked us about dessert, we were pleased to find out that it was "free" dessert day. I had the buttermilk pie which was very good. The kids had the ice cream sundaes. My daughter-in-law had the buttermilk crunch which came with ice cream, caramel and nuts. The prices were reasonable with lunch costing about $7.00 each. The service was good, the food was good.
