We were very excited to come have breakfast here! This place has a lot of meaning to my husband, whose grandparents would come here on dates. We were honored to uphold that tradition. This place is popular, so we were grateful to be able to get bar seating. Corned beef hash was sounding good to me that day, and they had a Cajun omelette special that my husband chose. We also got a cornbread buttermilk pancake to share. Unfortunately something came up and we couldn't eat our meal at the restaurant so we got it to go. I really liked the food, it was your typical comforting diner style meal. I thought it could've used a little more salt, but that wasn't a concern; I would rather it be under salted for those who prefer it that way. The locale is super cute and cozy, I loved the homey feel of it. The staff was amazing, really going above and beyond for us, helping us settle when we had to take off. This was my 2nd or 3rd visit since it changed hands and it was just as satisfying as the last time. I met a friend for lunch, who had never been there before, she was charmed by the appealing decor and cozy welcoming feeling. I ordered chicken and dumplings this time and we both marveled over how much it looked like homemade. She said "that looks like what grandma used to make!". The chicken and dumplings lived up to their appearance, they were delicious. Well seasoned, with nice chunks of chicken and big fluffy dumplings. My friend got fish and fries and ate every bite. Service was fast, friendly and accurate. With tax and tip my lunch was $20. It was a fairly generous portion as well. I have only good things to say and will definitely return. read more

This was the second time we have been there. I love that they do corn meal pancakes. The food was better this time than the first but it also wasn't as busy since we got there early. The ladies working there have been nice. I also just enjoy house/diner like concepts when eating out it just feels homie. They have lots of different types of food so its easy to get something different every time. read more

This neighborhood diner has remarkably good food. I had the smoked trout hash and a half-order of the mushroom biscuits & gravy. Both were absolutely outstanding. I ate there on a busy Sunday morning. I found the service to be average. Not bad, mind you. Most places are average: that's why it's the average. If I lived in the area, Parkway Diner would easily be my go-to breakfast destination. Nice job! read more

I originally was hesitant to come here, however, after a group of us visited the Festival of Trees and Lights we ended up at the Parkway Diner for a late breakfast/lunch. I admit that it took a while to get our order taken but once it was taken our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich after she found out the chicken salad was no longer available. I went with a veggie omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. They were very good. They also serve coffee from Bean Coffeehouse in Germantown. Bean is a favorite of mine and I found out that the owner of the Parkway Diner is the brother of the owner of Bean. If I have one complaint it's that the parking lot is small and street parking is not as plentiful in the neighborhood. read more

Placed a to go order as I had to go to work. Called and a very tiny voice answered. Ordered a turkey club, NO guacamole, NO tomato & NO onion as I was on my way to work. Extra Aioli on the side. Ordered potato salad as a side. The voice on the phone repeated my order back to me so I knew that it was placed correctly. I'm not sure what happened. I arrived, the place has had a fresh make-over from the old Cottage Inn. Lovely pale yellow walls, stained glass fans/lighting. Made for a beautiful place for a bite to eat. Got to work with my order. Sandwich had onions & tomatoes, no extra aioli on the side. The potato salad was beyond weird. Had a really creamy texture, (with skins on - if you adverse, I am not) but the flavor was OFF. It didn't taste like pickle or mustard but something I could not place. Something vinegary, but not right. Not edible. After I pulled everything that was NOT supposed to be on the sandwich off, (I'm glad I am not allergic to any of those specific ingredients, just really adverse to squishy items on a sandwich). Overall the sandwich was quite pleasant. Not sure why the spread was called aioli, as it was your basic mayo flavor, nothing special, but good on the sandwich. Would I go again - yes, but I would be diligent about checking everything prior to any carry out as someone in the kitchen obviously cannot read or is too lazy to follow customer/wait staff directions. read more

Aggressively mediocre and overpriced food in a library atmosphere. It's a senior center with drab, poorly organized decor that charges 4.25 USD for coffee. The chicken in the quesadilla was blatantly frozen. The biscuits and gravy drab. I tried to eat the food, but... As Phil Collins played in the background at a volume more fitting for the waiting room of a seminar, I got angry enough to write this review. Louisville is overloaded with great restraunts and this is a stain created by those who care more about the idea of having queasadillas than whether they are good. A disgusting display of mediocrity that begs for the touch of a young Gordan Ramsey from Kitchen Nightmares. Don't go here. read more

Visited for an early lunch with a couple former working mates. Have been here many times when this was the former Cottage Inn. New ownership now and concept is breakfast/lunch. Place has been brightened up with light paint colors and new artwork on the walls. Overall layout is the same, with some new outside seating available under the tree canopy, Bathrooms have been updated, but may need a door lock. It is a family style restroom with two stalls separated by a wall once in, but the entry door into the loo is sort of a push-swinging door arrangement. Our waitress was very energetic and attentive. Provided and refilled coffee as we needed it. Menus looked to be temporary in nature, on stapled paper. A downer up front when we were about to order, there were no biscuits. That changed some of our game plan on what to order. We pressed on and the coffee was good. Our server told us it came from Bean, over by a couple Schnitzelburg landmarks, Manual Stadium and Checks Cafe. Our order was Chicken and Dumplings, a Basic Breakfast and a Burger With Fruit. No qualms with the food. Decent portions and serviced timely. The breakfast consumer liked the bacon and said the pancake was good. Chicken and Dumplings were well received. The burger was not overworked and cooked to a medium well doneness. You can tell new ownership still getting feet wet, and there has been plenty of that lately. This location along Eastern Parkway just across from Dairy Castle near the University is steeped in history. Was only a couple tables occupied when I arrived just before 11, on leaving more groups of folks in the house. Expect to spend north of $10 for a combo, although alacart items are available for under that, like a breakfast taco or quesadilla. Best of luck to new ownership. I would certainly give this another go. Suggestion, pair the old Cottage Inn fried chicken with waffles, I think that would be a fave. read more

I was a frequent diner at the old Cottage Inn before its closure earlier this year (2025.j I was quite fond of the ambience, and the food was always homely and well-prepared. So I was quite pleased to learn that the spot had reopened under a new name, the Parkway Diner. I went there for lunch today 10/26, as soon as I was able. As is so often the case, the substitute was not quite the full shilling, but it was well within the acceptable range. I tried the potato bowl with meat and an egg (extra charge.) It was filling and tasty, and I was happy with my choice. No bread was provided, but I didn't really miss it. I had coffee to drink, a perfectly average American brew. I don't think I saw other coffee choices. There were no sweets on the menu except a "chocolate pancake", a regular flapjack with chocolate whipped cream and very unexceptional chocolate syrup. I was actually rather disappointed in this choice. All in all, it was a good meal, and I can recommend the place. I'm hoping the menu and prep will flesh itself out with time. The service was perhaps a step above adequate. There are vegan options on the menu. Total tab including tax and tip was about $21.00. I could have gone higher or somewhat lower with my choices. I will happily go to the Parkway Diner again. I hope management will try to expand the options, and perhaps get a bit more creative. read more

Had breakfast here and it was very tasty. Vegetarian biscuits and gravy were delicious with big meaty mushrooms. The home fries were crispy, potato perfection.
