He carefully explained the different window options, discussed the benefits of each, and provided a clear, detailed estimate. We appreciated his honesty, attention to detail, and patience throughout the appointment. It was a very positive experience, and we feel confident moving forward. We would definitely recommend California Window & Door to anyone looking for new windows.

This response is from the owner's son, Anthony -- not "Bernard." We chose California Window & Door…read morespecifically because your company had previously completed the same window and door work on an identical model of our home, so the scope of work should not have come as a surprise to your team. The "custom tile repair" became necessary only because your installers damaged and broke tiles during the installation process. During the pre-contract consultation, we were explicitly told that no tile work or revisions would be required. Final payment was withheld because the doors were not functioning properly, and your team prevented the manufacturer from completing the warranty work that was required. There will always be issues that arise during a retrofit window and door installation. The true measure of a company's caliber and professionalism is how those issues are handled and resolved. Attempting to shift blame back onto the customer, rather than taking accountability and working toward a solution, reflects poor business practices.

Beware of those that make false statements…read more First, Tom (John) Libby is NOT a contractor - he was, now has ceased to keep his license active. Next, he is NOT insured as a contractor, so if your job is over $600, do not hire him. Lastly, he does BEAUTIFUL gates, but then the execution of installing them is absolutely, 100% terrible. I would never recommend someone who has such disdain for his clients that he abandons the job, which Tom did for us. I hired Tom to build and install a gate at our La Quinta home. He was referred by a neighbor. He gave me the price, what he would do, and I hired him. He sent pictures of the project, everything looked good, no issues. He then scheduled the installation and made a mistake on his calculations, so he was going to have to chisel out some of the brick to get the gate in, but assured me that he would do the finish work and make it all complete. He then chiseled out the brick, installed the gate a little off-center (to be honest, you wouldn't know unless I pointed it out), filled in some of the brick with caulk, and told me that he would come tomorrow to finish it up and install the door stopper, too. No problem. All good. The gate looked great. I paid him in full (Yes, I'm stupid). THEN, nothing... he promised he'd come back, never did. Said excuse this, excuse that... then ghosted me (took the money, never came back to finish). I have the texts... honesty is honesty... then, I told him that if he didn't finish, my guys would (which they did), so I asked for the money back - he didn't finish his job, no insurance on my property, took a job over $600 without a contractor's license, and literally didn't want to come back to spend time fixing the damage to my side gate area where he chiseled out the block. I would only have him build the gate.. I wouldn't ever let him set foot on my (or your) property. It's so simple to do work in any area - do what you say, protect your name, etc. This guy? Don't make the same mistake... -La Quinta Homeowner

He returned my call the same day and was able to come take care of a couple projects the very next day. In a world of flaky contractors, his great communication skills and follow-through really stand out and set him apart. He took care of a couple minor things in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. He's now our first call for any other home improvement projects that drop up. He is a nice guy and during one of our chats told me he and his gf lived in a trailer behind Home Depot and heating bills were high. His gf did not work. I felt bad and told him that if I was satisfied with his work, I would let him replace my patio. Up to that point the paint job he did was fine. Covid hit and future work had to be temporarily halted. I asked him several times to return my key but he never did. I found out why. He and his gf and pets were squatting and partying in my home. The white berber carpet was now dark gray with cigarette ashes and pet stains. The bed was unmade and the new bedspread and sheets stained with bodily fluids. The new carpet in the bathrooms had apparently been saturated with water and there was mold. The toilets were not only stained but one upstairs toilet that Jon had gone with me to pick out and make sure I got the right one leaked all over the floor and stained the ceiling beneath. I suppose living in a beautiful townhome with central air and heat sure beats a trailer. Glassware and items used to stage the home were also missing. Other then myself, the only other person with a key was Jon. I immediately called the police and made a police report. They told me I could press charges but since for all intents and purposes Jon was indigent, the only thing that would happen is a bit of jail time. I would never recover for the damage he had done. It was the LAPD that suggested I write a review. BTW, Jon also mentioned that on another occasion he was accused of entering a home he was working on w/o permission and actually causing more damage then he had been hired to fix. This couple threatened to sue Jon and refused to pay him. When Jon told me this story, I believed he had been wronged but now not only do I wish the couple had left a review, I wish I had seen the red flag. As the police suggested, I posted a review last year which Jon responded to via a private message ( which I kept) laden with expletives and wishes that I die. He also managed to get my honest review removed. I have learned a very valuable lesson. From now on I will only use professional people or people recommended by someone I personally know. In my effort to save a few dollars, I ended up spending a whole lot more to replace carpeting, toilets, towels, bedspread, sheets and pillows and repair the mold and ceiling stains. It's too easy to get a group of friends to write stellar reviews and Yelp does not vet its businesses. All I can say is caveat emptor. Do your due diligence and by all means if you insist on hiring Jon, do not entrust him with your key, and make sure someone is on the premises when he is there.

But they don't stand behind their product or being upfront and honest about little things. The door we bought was the floor model and didn't have deadbolt on it and the manual lock and handle part was one long piece . But the owner told us that we can buy any deadbolt with2 inches thick will fit. And recommended us to buy door handle from him for almost 400$ . We later found out that not every 2 inches deadbolt would fit. It was headache to find one. and we found out we bought very overpriced door handle from him. Even top brand like Schlage is a lot cheaper. But the worst thing is when we got our door. The screw that they put in to change to our new handle we bought from them were cut and we couldn't get the door to opened. We had to drive back to get the screws and took the whole handle off and took broken screws out. On top of that on the door knob area. There are scratches from taking the old door handle off. And 2 small deep dents into the door because of the old lock. I wasn't happy about the door condition. It would be more professional if he would be upfront about these dent and scratches and warn us it might happen if the door lock changed. So that we know and aware of this. He offered the exchange but the new door would take at least 12-15 weeks but no refund was offered. We had no choice but hto keep it. If you want to get the iron door from them. Think twice. U don't want to deal with headache like I did.
