I had three keys cut here. Two for one lock and one for another. I went to the back of the store where the keys are cut and was helped without much wait. I was able to choose solid color keys for the same price as the silver. The gentleman who helped me was friendly and helpful. The keys worked when I tried them on the locks. Like the people there are so helpful and personable that i want to like know them in my real life. I needed a hose extension for my countertop dishwashing machine. The guy - i think his name was Brian? Unfortunately I can't remember - was so helpful. He was super patient with me and also was unrelenting in trying to help me come to a solution. By the time i walked out of there i ended up paying $20 instead of the 200 that i would've needed to replace the hoses with the official manufacturer extended hose. What a lifesaver! read more

2 stars for being a dumpster looking yard, and something nasty in the air that was causing me to sneeze!!!! Maybe that's why they had like 4 different fans going on????? couldn't find the vacuum filter we had but one similar to ours, except when we got home it didn't work, now have to rememeber to return it 31/2 stars for customer service guy with the black hair all over the place- like an ape on loose trying to find something his partner in crime told him too...but he did!!!! Cheers for that! He also did call up another place in Hayward for us that would sell the filter for us...too bad they can't sell it to them (shucks!!!!!!)... so overall 3 stars!!!!! read more

This place is the best! It looks small from the outside, but they have never been without what I needed. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I can't walk two steps in the store without being greeted and assisted. I am so glad they are in my neighborhood. I have bought light bulbs, furniture stain, wax, stainless steel cleaner, canning jars, paint supplies, you name it...they've got it! This will be my go-to place for just about everything! read more

They are selling LED Christmas tree lights for $9.99 compared to the ACE Hardware web site and other local Ace stores (Grand Lake, for example) are at $5.99. What a ripoff. Wonder if they sell everything at a 50% markup. read more

Great neighborhood Ace with staff who clearly enjoy working there, are very knowledgeable and eager to help! Only downside is that it's a bit smaller than other Ace hardwares and I've had hit or miss with keys. But the staff's so great, it's still a great spot. read more

I am so lucky to have this store in walking distance from my home. As a new condo owner, a myriad of needs come up, and I can walk or drive here at a moments notice and get what I need. Helpful, knowledgeable, good natured and very customer friendly. When they did not have my vacuum bags...no problem, come back tomorrow, owner will go buy them. I don't mind spending more here because of one reason. Hector! He's just brilliant and kind and gives you full attention. I've been going there for over 10 years now and he always directed me right no matter how advanced the problem is. So the advice saves me as the solution is the right one. From refinishing a clawfoot bathtub to searching that strange looking fastener, he attends to your problem quickly, deftly and intelligently. Also Dan the owner is cool. When he said he'll get the part, he gets the part and on time. They have key blanks that other stores don't too. They was out but got the Schlag blanks in the next day. There seems to be a change over the last couple of years, and I hate to say it's not consistent with past service as I notice things. However, thankfully Hector is still there so I'll continue shop there! read more

The employees here are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the store carries almost all the items you would need from a hardware store, though the selection is smaller than many Ace stores. Minus one star for the shopping experience. It would be a much nicer one if it was more like Ace hardware store in Alameda (Paganos at the shopping center) or on Mt. Brian and Ramon are amazing! I came in earlier for a wrench and pliers for a bed in disassembling for a move. The gentleman near the tools was super helpful in helping me, but I got home and had the wrong size wrench. Came back just as they closed and Brian and Ramon very kindly helped me find a different wrench (needed a 4'') and also helped me buy some water from the vending machine! I wish I came here more often, much better experience than any home Depot. read more

My daughter and I had purchased a lamp shade and a separate fixture for her new apartment and realized the wiring didn't fit correctly. We went to Markus Hardware to see if they had any ideas to adapt it. Brian, one of the owners, really went out of his way to help us. We purchased some electrical tape and he cut and re-wired the fixture for us! We were so impressed and pleased to have found this little gem of a store. As a new homeowner, I know nothing about up keep for appliances or floors. I walked into this store (I had a groupon), and was immediately asked if I needed any help. Well, in fact I did! I asked the sales person what cleaner I should use for this issue, that issue, and anything else I could think of! Not only did he have great advice and recommendations, he pointed me in the right direction so I could get everything I needed. He was super knowledgeable, and helpful. I was a fan of this hardware store until today. I have gone to Markus Supply for various things over the years and always felt good about supporting an independent business rather than a big chain store. Today i went in to pick up a couple of things as well as return a small wrench that I had previously bought from them. The wrench was un-used, in it's original packaging and with a receipt. I was told that they do not do returns on tools. I read the receipt that was originally given to me and no where on it does it say that they do not do returns on tools. It says that a receipt is required for returns and they must be done 30 days from purchase. When I told the clerk that it said nothing about returning tools on the receipt, she said, "I think there's a sign back there somewhere that says it." Because of an $8 tool, they will not get my business anymore. If I want crappy service, I can go to Home Depot (and probably pay less). read more

Even though it is a much smaller store than Home Depot, I rarely cannot find what I need. The exception would be lumber, they have some but not as extensive as some places. However, I don't expect that from a local hardware store. I don't mind comparing a local hardware store to a big box store, usually, as often it is the same. You have employees who usually are not familiar with the product, have better luck finding it yourself in the store, and asking for any advice is fruitless. Not the case here, staff is knowledgeable, selection is good, and they have things that may be hard to find elsewhere. They have a huge fastener selection and if they don't have it, you probably won't find it elsewhere. They also are really good for plumbing, likely having more than most big box stores, outside of fixtures, which they do have, just not to the same extent. I am happy going here. Employees are not only knowledgeable enough to give real advice, they remember you, and also usually have a great sense of humor. read more

This fabulous hardware store, are my new best friends! I can't believe that when I entered the store, with my long list, that I was greeted by Brian, Part owner, and he said, "Come on with your cart, I'm you're Personal Shopper"! He led me through the whole store, and helped me get everything on my list! When I complimented, who appeared to be the manager, & then found out that he was Brian's father and the owner, on the the fantastic service, he told me, "you'll always have a Personal Shopper here, we're like Nordstroms!". If I can help it, I will never shop another hardware store, and definitely NOT Home Depot! I'm working on a few big home remodel/redecorating projects, now, and have been back several times in the the last week, and service & friendliness, has been so consistent! Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. A smaller store but a good stock. In Oakland, for building supplies, this store and Laurel Ace are the class acts. The Home Horror Depot is at the opposite end of the spectrum. The rest of the building and hardware stores fall in between. read more
