I can't say enough good things about Marlee Jean's. I met the chef and his team at a wine dinner so I knew that they were a talented bunch, but sometimes restaurant visits aren't as good as one wine dinner. But I have to say, Marlee Jean's is exceptional. It is amazing the food they are serving out of their small kitchen. They share a space with King Canary Brewing, it is a beautiful dining room with a spacious patio. If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Davidson, this is the place. You can grab a quick bite, raw oysters or a feast. All for a reasonable price.

    Lobster Roll (underwhelming)

Unfortunately this is my second time trying Marlee Jean's, and my second disappointing experience. This time I got the Lobster Roll and the Chicken Wings. I am a Lobster Roll enthusiast, I have eaten Lobster Rolls from every north east coastal state and everywhere else I go - if there's a Lobster Roll on the menu there's a good chance that's what I'm getting. Unfortunately this one was one of my least favorites. There was no hint of sweetness, it was bitter and overly seasoned. The lobster meat itself was fine although I had to pick shell out of my mouth 3 different bites, and the flavors were just off to me. The roll was good, but we all know the star of the show is the lobster and it was just not doing it for me. The wings were dry. That's basically a deal breaker right off the bat, if the chicken isn't tender and juicy it's hard to enjoy them. I also had multiple flats with broken bones. I got the Cajun dry rub which was pretty good, but on a overly cooked dry wing it ends up overwhelming. You need a juicy wing to complement a strong seasoning. My first experience was right after they opened maybe a year ago or so, so I wanted to give them another try. Maybe they do good stuff with other dishes based on the reviews, but my experiences have been underwhelming.

    Short rib quesadilla

Nestled inside of King Canary Brewing (Davidson location), Marlee Jeans is a fresh casual fare seafood restaurant with options for those allergic to seafood. Chef Erick + team take every measure to prevent cross contamination for those with allergies - whether seafood or gluten. I also love the way their set up is: order your drinks from king canary, order your food from the Marlee Jeans side. It's perfect for gathering with a group as they give you a number tent and the server/food runner brings you the food as soon as it is prepared. In my opinion, this prevents food from sitting in the windows and getting cold cause "it's not my table." The concept of gathering your own utensils (not plastic) is spot on as it allows those who only want to drink and sit and socialize not feel pressured to order a full sit down meal, thus washing cutlery that's never been used. For this most recent visit, I took advantage of their snow-weather special: $30 for 1 dozen raw oysters as well as their lobster Mac and cheese. Coming out hot and bubbly with a cheese crust, I had to wait for the Mac and cheese to cool off to eat. I sat at the raw bar and watched Chef Erick personally shuck my oysters. My short rib quesadilla was just as flavorful though I think I prefer the short rib panini instead.

Been twice now and frankly would enjoy making Marlee Jean's an every weekend date. First time we ordered then sat at the King Canary bar and this time sat at two of the four seats in front of the oyster bar. On both visits we've had the crab cake app and oysters. Other things we've tried have been the chili shrimp, ahi tuna wontons and grilled oysters. Also had an Alaska King Crab roll that was a special on the most recent visit. Everything we've tried has been fresh and delicious and the folks prepping it all are super friendly. Really great add to Davidson.

Poke bowl, truffle wedges and cuban panini

We very much enjoyed lunch at Marlee Jeans today. We were looking for a nice cocktail and some appetizers and that we got! I had the poke bowl and hubby got the cuban panini and truffle wedges. More food than we needed and was all delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is beautiful.

    The shorty & Lobster roll

The Shorty & lobster roll were super good! The brioche on the roll was to die for !! Will definitely come back

Besides the attentive service and friendly staff, the food was delicious. I had fresh oysters and mushroom flatbread at my last visit. Highly recommend trying everything on the menu headed by award winning Chef Erick and Amanda!

Really delicious lobster roll! Maybe a little too much bread but really tasty.

Seaboy absolutely delivered. From the outside, the building is understated and looks more like it belongs near the beach at Oak Island. Once you step inside, however, it is clean, classy, well-appointed, and charmingly coastal without being overly themed or tacky. It feels like the premium restaurant it is. We didn't make reservations because we arrived at 4:30 on a Friday and never expected the place to be completely slammed that early. Jackie, the hostess, took our name and phone number and promised to call as soon as something opened at the bar. Since there wasn't much room to wait inside, she encouraged us to relax in our car. Sure enough, about 15 minutes later, she called and made sure we got the first two available seats. Samantha, the bartender, was both an excellent server and a talented mixologist. She was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, somehow keeping up with all the drinks for the dining room without allowing anyone at the bar to feel ignored. I told her I wasn't much of a drinker but gave her the name of a liquor I enjoy. She created her own cocktail for me, and it was a solid 10 out of 10. Could I walk in and order that exact drink again? Probably not. Would I trust her to surprise me again in a heartbeat? Absolutely. My wife started with a shrimp appetizer that she said may have been the best shrimp she has ever eaten. I had the Caesar salad, which was the only part of the meal that was merely okay. It was beautifully presented, generously portioned, properly dressed, and topped with excellent cheese. Unfortunately, the dressing lacked the bold, savory punch I expect from a great Caesar. Our entrées, however, were phenomenal. I ordered the swordfish, and it was so good that my wife essentially took it over because she liked it even more than the seafood pasta special she had ordered. Fortunately, her rich, cheesy seafood creation was outstanding, so I was perfectly happy with the trade. I polished off her meal, then finished whatever swordfish she left behind! We ended with the deconstructed Key lime pie. It was flavorful and enjoyable, although, like the Caesar, I felt it could have used just a little more refinement. At one point, the chef and owner came out to the bar, shook our hands, introduced himself, and thanked us for coming. He stayed for a little friendly conversation, which was a genuinely nice and personal touch. Those minor critiques aside, the service, food quality, atmosphere, and hospitality were all excellent. Seaboy has immediately become one of our favorite choices for a premium meal, and the overall experience was absolutely five out of five. We will definitely be back soon. To those about to nosh, we salute you!

My first impression was that this is a very beautiful restaurant. There is lots of lighting, thoughtful artistic pieces, and it has an airy, aquatic ambiance. Even the restrooms were lovely! There is an outdoor patio, as well as a front dining area where the bar is, and a rear dining area with visibility to the kitchen. The front and rear areas are separated by a glass waterfall sign bearing the restaurant's name. We had an absolute outstanding server named Saige. She was attentive and made great recommendations for us. To start, we had Caesar salads. The presentation of these was unique, having somewhat of a ruffled appearance. For the second course, we tried the sautéed shrimp with Cajun spice and charred bread as well as bacon wrapped scallops with Calabrian tomato jam. Finally, for the third course, we had the hanger steak with blue cheese butter and new potatoes. I love blue cheese, and I really loved it as an addition to this dish. Every item I tried, I would order again. Unfortunately, we didn't save room for dessert, but we've heard they are fantastic...next time! After dinner, we went and sat at the bar for a little while, and the staff there was just as delightful. Dining here was a whole experience that I plan to repeat again in the future!
