What really stands out with Burtons at Birkdale is the service! I have only eaten at a table once, I tend to eat at the bar. Like previous bartenders, today was no different. I had a great conversation with Sam this evening; who made the Pappardelle Bolognese recommendation. Great job Sam! She really made my dining experience pleasant with her conversation; without neglecting the other customers at the bar. As for the ambiance, it is always a nice place to dine. Nice room (we chose a bar table for access to two concurrent sporting events we wanted to watch), friendly service, good menu (nothing super special, but diverse) and good food and wine. We had their bread (hate that restaurants are charging for it now) and artichoke dip, then a pasta, a chicken dish, a salad, and the ahi tuna bowl. All quite good. Came here with a last minute reservation with my dear hubs the other night as he requested we go somewhere healthy. I was seated immediately while waiting for him to arrive. My server was amazing as we (Im)patiently waited for him. I ordered the roasted beet tower to start. Finely diced marinated beets with a thin slice of goat cheese topped with mixed greens and a vinaigrette. This dish tasted so fresh! My husband's only complaint was chasing the tiny beets around the plate (first world problems) I chose to have a cup of their creamy chicken soup. No rice, no potato filler - cream based, fresh chicken mushrooms and carrots danced around my mouth. Topped with Gruyère (I think) each bite was like a rich warm hug from grandma Our entrees arrived in a timely manner - him having the ahi tuna poke bowl. He chose to substitute the rice for mixed greens. He devoured the entree and noted the tuna being sweet for the longer sear - his fault, he forgot to ask for it to be cooked extremely rare or done raw, poke style as it was to be a poke bowl which is typically served raw. I chose the harvest bowl. A base of rice and quinoa topped with Brussel sprouts, beets, greens, goat cheese, and butternut squash. I chose to add grilled shrimp. Holy cow. This is clearly a popular spot! We came with a larger party (5 adults, 2 kids) at 8:00 on Saturday night. We did not have reservations and the dining room was very full, but we were seated quickly. They have a dedicated gluten free menu as well as several NA drink options. While other allergens are not marked on the gluten free menu, I felt our server was very knowledgeable on allergens, as well as cross contamination risks. I have gluten and A1 dairy sensitivities. I was able to get the crispy fish sandwich, without a bun (the bun contained dairy). The fryer has dairy cross contamination (due to buttermilk batter). However, they will use seltzer water vs. buttermilk to make the crispy fish itself. Meal came out hot and the fish was so light and crispy. Fries were absolutely delicious with a fair-like style. Pickles, pickled red onion, and tartar sauce were also fabulous. Would definitely come back. We were off to a rough start. Waited 20 mins once we sat down to receive help/drinks. They didn't tell our waiter about us but we had multiple servers and the managers pass us by with visibly empty water cups. Finally got help and service was okay but we could tell he was rushed and mind was elsewhere. Not his fault, they kept seating him even though he had a huge private party in the back. They gave us free bread on the house for having to wait...which tbh should be free like every other restaurant. I got the short rib entree which was good but not good enough for the price. This is my new favorite place to go to every occasion- from a birthday celebration to - I had a bad day at work. I have been living across the street from this restuarant for six months and finally made! Let me tell you, the food did not disappoint. I had the Maxx burger with truffle fries, my other party had the fish sandwich. They both were absolutely amazing! I plan to be back within the week! The wait staff was . So far, so good. Bryan, bartender/server is taking care of us. The old fashioned I ordered was perfect! The drinks at Burton's are some of the best I have had. All of the appetizers were tasty this evening. The firecracker shrimp is awesome. The flavors in the sauce are divine. I detected more salt than necessary in the spinach artichoke dip and the she-crab soup shooters. The latter, by the way, I will order when I next visit with less salt. Just the fact that Burton's serves a decent She-Crab soup with a good bit of lump crab meat in it is a nice starting place. We've also tried a cheeseburger, firecracker shrimp and calamari. The calamari is served with tartar sauce, which is an interesting switch up from the more standard marinara or sweet chili sauce and I kind of like it. First off our meal was amazing! I had the Short Rib Grilled Cheese sandwich that was awesome! My date had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta and it was extremely on-point. The space looks very modern and as it is a bar/restaurant it gives semi fine dining vibe. Totally enjoyed the food and drinks. We started the meal with general Tso cauliflower and buffalo chicken wing dip and cheese steak spring rolls .The cauliflower was amazing, could of ordered more as my main dish. I appreciated the big chunks of chicken in the chicken wing dip as well. Crunchy fried and stuffed eggrolls. Mains we got what we were told was the fan favorite, short rib grilled cheese. It comes with a mound of gravy, yes I see why a fan favorite. It was delicious the short ribs melted in mouth, Texas toast toasted to perfection with great amount of melted gooey cheese, then loaded with gravy. Also had the Pappardelle Bolognese. The pasta was dam near perfect. Definitely fresh and home made. The Bolognese flavor was good as well. Nice portions. The only downfall was the service. I'm told they fairly new so I'll assume they still working out kinks. But yes the service was very very slow, so slow we asked for our main dishes to go. I think we actually got forgotten be honest and we're given the oh we behind story. Twice food was brought to our table that was not ours. The manager did come out and was super friendly and apologized. So I'm speaking on it and just dinged one star, because the food was good and chalking our service up to a new establishment. I had a hard time debating on whether or not this place was 2 or 3 stars. We had a less than stellar experience. My girlfriend was really looking forward to eating here, we came all the way from Raleigh and it was a big let down. When we arrived we were quoted 30-40 minutes for a table. It took 50 minutes to get one. The ironic part was, the table we were seated at was open the entire time. In fact there was probably a dozen open tables the entire time. During your wait, there is no where to wait. There are no tables or benches outside. The bar was completely full with people standing 2-3 deep around it. So people were just drinking out on the sidewalk and in the parking lot. Some benches would go a long way. When our table was called the three hostesses were all talking to one person completely ignoring the line behind a gentlemen who had a problem with something. One of them would have been enough to take care of him while the other two helped customers in line. When we got seated we got seated outside facing the parking lot. Loud cars and parking lot views and noises...see my photo. There were open tables everywhere. We did ask to be moved and we got a nice table inside. I have no idea why they would put us at the table they did, that table is the worst in the house, no one should be seated there unless everything else is full. After all that was sorted out things went pretty well. Big thanks to our server Anna, who was working a double, for taking care of us. If I had to rate her alone she would get 5/5 stars! She is the one who got us moved inside and took great care of us. She was just about the only thing great about our experience. We got the gluten free bread service. It was decent, I'd recommend it since most restaurants don't have gluten free bread. Girlfriend got the gluten free crab cake sandwich, it was just okay. Bun was extremely dry and there wasn't a ton of crab in the sandwich which was disappointing. I got the Thai steak salad and thought it was good, 4/5 stars. We went to Burtons Grill for the first time tonight for my birthday dinner. We had to take a 4:30 reservation but after waiting for our food it didn't seem like we were eating that early. I love the motif and moody colors (deep greens & blues), especially the wall paper with magnolias. Aleyris was our server for the evening. She was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and gluten free options. She immediately saw I had a gluten free menu and explained how they ensure there's no cross contamination. I will say I don't think I've eaten anywhere that gave that much consideration to people who are gluten free or has had as many gluten free options. The food was delicious. I got a NY Strip which was perfectly cooked with a tasty crust on it. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had and simply seasoned with sea salt. After a long wait a runner brought out our entrees, but didn't bother to clear our app plates - ought to be automatic IMO. Server stopped by and asked if we were OK, manager stopped by as well.
