Food is always so good and service always welcoming! Feels like laid back but food is quality!

We knew that Marlie's had a great reputation but we were still blown away by their amazing food! We started out with the fried gator bites, exceptional. We each had a salad with our entrees. For 4 people, we split 2 entrees - honestly, Marlie's sampler would have been enough for 4 people! Just add some side salads and a soup, then you're golden. Service was quick, exceptional, server knew the menu and could make recommendations. We did go early to be sure to get a table...they were packed at 5! Be sure to arrive early. Ordered take out, 1 fish po-boy and 1 roast beef po-boy. Arrived they didn't know about roast beef. Waited while it was being made. Got home with my order fish poboy was stone cold, fries also. Drove over to French Settlement to try this gem I have been hearing about. Didn't have too long of a wait which is great. I got the steak special and hubs for the Cajun trio. The steak special is worth it. You get a huge steak with choice of potato and a salad for under 25 bucks. Hubs said the etouffee was delicious and he really liked the gumbo and crawfish pie. You won't leave hungry and if you might have a to go box. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. read more

The best restaurant in the area. Because if that, expect a wait, even for to-go orders. Most of the food is pretty good, although we've gotten food that had had way too much salt at times. The gumbo doesn't taste authentic and leaves much to be desired. But everything else is pretty good. 8/21/25 This place is awesome a little out of the way but well worth it Apps onions rings fresh delicious hush puppies great hot or the grease and you a bunch of them their Salad , cocktail and Tartar sauce were all hand made. I had the 10 oz Ribeye it had to be bigger than 10 ounces. Heard good reviews Food was mid but it was super greasy. Expected better quality shrimp Had to send the order of onion rings back because they were in pools of oil and dripping. Not sure if was the cook this day or if it's always like this but whoever they are doesn't know how to properly fry. Now I'm kinda skeptical of going back. Noticed another table behind me they got their child a corn dog and it came out almost black soaked in grease as well. Didn't care for greasy mouth feel of everything that now I can't get that oily taste out my mouth. read more

Was not expecting this place and it's amazing food! The friendly neighbor by the Airbnb recommended we pop in here and that the seafood was top notch. Sure was and the gator was perfection! This was our first time eating here, the service was great but food was not good at all. Wasn't seasoned enough, everything was very bland, fries were old, hush puppies were burnt to a crisp ( to the point they were black) Got the bang bang shrimp for appetizer and barely had any sauce on them and it just tasted like mayonnaise and hot sauce. The wait (even for Valentines Day) was not bad. Our server was courteous and attentive. The food, onion rings were well battered and did very little flaking, a plus for me. Salad was as good as anyone's. My steak and baked potato, 16 oz.(butterflied) ribeye was a TRUE 16 oz. Made to order. Baked potato was good. The sweet tea could be just a taste sweeter, but is good...the wife got half fish/half shrimp... her rating was a 4 star.... No hush puppies with the meal though...not a deal breaker....over all, there was a good crowd, not jammed up crowded, but a full house. If their daily business is like this. Good food and great service on a Saturday night. Got there around 6:15pm and it was already busy. Had about a 20 minute wait to seat 4. Did the onion rings and fried mushroom apps. Both weren't as crispy as I like but they were good. The ranch sauce with the mushrooms was great. Wish the onion rings had a sauce. Main dishes were steaks and seafood. Steak was delicious! Tender and juicy and cooked perfectly. I had a trio meal of catfish, shrimp, and oysters. All were great. Catfish was crispy which is hard to find in south Louisiana where most restaurants use corn flour instead of corn meal. I finally found my catfish!!!! Buddy had a trio of frog legs, fish, and oysters. He said it was all good. They make their own homemade salad dressings and they were very good and a nice fresh salad. Will make that 45 minute drive to go back. Maybe my new favorite place that reminds me so much of places that I ate at with my parents as a kid. Y'all gotta try it!!! read more

I honestly have zero complaints. We started with Crab Meat Au Gratin trying to go light to save room for mains. Entrees were the Marlie sampler (2 people with decent appetites could share). And one of the specialties, seafood stuffed fish. Asked the waiter more about this to be sure it was what I thought. It is grilled catfish stuffed with a wet stuffing similar to a stuffed shrimp, topped it with au gratin since. Not sure why catfish is a specialty vs. the tilapia, red snapper, or flounder on the Off the Grill menu but I'm sure those are very similar with the added option of etoufee topping. Phenomenal taste and cooked perfectly. One visit and now it's added to my favorites. read more

Came here on a Sunday after church on the recommendation from a friend. They raved about the food and atmosphere. I have to admit that they were completely right about the food. We started with a choice form the waitress, It was amazing right from the start. We ordered the mushroom balls appetizer. Wow !!! It was a taste explosion. So many wonderful things going on with it. Lots of flavor and a very generous portion. It's an instant favorite. The salad was the next food to come out. It was fresh and good. The. The main courses arrived. Spicy boiled shrimp ( cold ). Italian boiled shrimp ( warm ). Chicken Alfredo pasta and steak bites. All the food was good. My only minor complaint was a little too salty on the shrimps. But very tasty. Finally we finished off with some cheese cake and some chocolate chip bread pudding. Mmm. Overall it was a good experience. Our waitress was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was good. I visited Marlie's restaurant in French Settlement, Louisiana this past Sunday. They are open from 11am-3pm on Sunday. I arrived about noon and was able to be seated, even though my company was 20 minutes away. The restaurant was more than half full and things appeared busy. The décor is rustic with painted drift wood wall paintings of Louisiana or wildlife fare. We ordered an appetizer of fried button mushrooms. The batter was crunchy and mushrooms were flavorful and arrived piping hot. My company ordered the fried shrimp and catfish combo platter and I ordered the Cory's Crab platter. Our waitress informed us they were out of crab fingers and will substitute a whole stuffed crab. We were ok with it, as we would share each other's entrees to get the best impression of the food options. The fried fish fillets were thin and crispy and the shrimp were nicely battered and fresh. Both were seasoned and flavorful. The soft shell crab was excellent and nicely seasoned. However the cup of gumbo was overly salted to the point where I couldn't eat it. The cup of crab meat au gratin was different from what I am accustomed to in that it was not baked. It was more of a thick chowder with processed cheese base, Ro-tel tomatoes and the crab was undetectable. The stuffed crab and crab cake were also disappointing. The stuffed crab substituted was in a metal form and mostly bread stuffing with little crab meat. The crab cake was identical to the stuffing in the stuffed crab. Cory's Crab Platter for $35.95 fell short of expectations. I would return for fried button mushroom appetizer and standard South Louisiana fried seafood fare, which were delicious. read more

Food was fantastic! Order the steak bites only if you love pepper (the chef is a little heavy handed on the pepper). Had delicious calamari and onion rings as appetizers. Server was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the back room (where the bar is). It needs sound dampening tiles because it is very loud. It looked like there were some in the front room so maybe they are on order for the back room. It is so wonderful to have another fantastic restaurant option in the area. The food was great! We started off with fried eggplant that was topped with seafood sauce. This could have easily been my meal it was so good. Everyone at the table ordered something different for their main course, fried catfish, fried shrimp, blackened flounder, steak - all of it was HOT which is always a plus in my book. It was well seasoned and generously portioned. The server answered all of our questions and no one ever had to ask for a refill on drinks. Everything came out really quickly and I would say that the restaurant was at least 70% capacity. The restaurant doesn't feel crowded even when many of the tables are filled and the music on the inside wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear everyone at our table. Will be visiting again! read more

I live right outside of New Orleans and visited for a Mother's Day lunch. I wasn't expecting much, but I was honestly so impressed. The spinach dip was probably the best I have ever had - it was more like a spinach/queso dip. I ordered the alfredo with chicken and it was very well seasoned, but the chicken and fried pickles were a littttle too salty for my taste buds. Amazing portions. After seeing a recommendation on here, I decided to take the 45 minute trek (I live closer to St. Gabriel) on a Sunday to join a friend for lunch and visit Marlie's in French Settlement. It's situated directly off Highway 16 in the old Dutch's restaurant. First impression was that the parking lot was full and the restaurant was packed, so you know they must have good food! We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer and they were SO delicious! I could've and would've honestly bathed in their ranch dressing sauce! We then ordered two entrees because we wanted to try a little bit of everything--we had the combo plate with fried shrimp and fried fish and the crab platter that came with a crab cake, a stuffed crab, crabmeat au gratin, seafood gumbo, and a soft shell crab. The fried fish was a thinner filet, but was tasty as was the fried shrimp. The stuffed crab tasted like stovetop stuffing and didn't have any noticeable crabmeat in it and the crab cake was much the same with au gratin sauce on top. The soft shell crab, on the other hand was delicious, but was fried a little too hard for my liking. As far as the au gratin and the gumbo, both were a little too salty for my tastes. On the other hand, the service though was seriously great--our waitress was super sweet and checked in on us numerous times even though she was very clearly swamped. Given I live 45 minutes away, I likely won't make a special trip to go back out there unless I'm in that area specifically.
