Went to this gem of a place. It's a drive from Baton Rouge, but a nice one. It's right on the water and boats pull up, get gas/food. Lots of locals, very packed -that's a good sign to me. Food doesn't take too long even when busy. It's worth a wait for sure. I will drive back for more. Best hamburger I've had so far in the area. Those crab stuffed mushrooms were amazeballs!!! Saturday Evening August 8th 2025 Reserved for 5om, Seated after 7pm. Unacceptable! I made a 5pm reservation earlier in the week, Thursday August 7th at 4:55pm according to my phone, for my Mothers 81st Birthday(party of 9), when we arrived the restaurant had no record of it. Instead of an apology or attempt to fix the problem, the manager repeatedly asked, "Who did you speak with?" in an accusatory tone, and told us the only option was to wait 30-45 minutes in the entrance atea-with my 81yr old mother and two young children. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived yet we watched several groups get seated while we waited. We were finally seated at 6.30pm and by then my mother struggled to walk to the table after having to sit so long. Our server was apologetic and transparent about having another large group. It seemed that the server's sorted out a solution rather than the manager, who's name I never got, and she seemed to never let go of her rude attitude. The Manager never apologized and walked past us several times so there was ample opportunity. After rhe long wait we asked to order appetizers and entrees together to save time, but we're told no. Food was fine, but dinner started after 7pm, two hours late and my mother is Diabetic. This was supposed to be a special celebration, but the lack of professionalism, empathy, and solutions from the manager made it a frustrating and disappointing night. We are being treated poorly. I can't excuse the poor service here tonight. I 100 percent know at this point that the staff does not care about our experience here. We came in for a GO order. Simple, like an order of onion rings and few other things off the appetizer menu. We placed our order at the bar, and began a LENGTHY wait. Waited for 45 minutes to be seated at a table (party of 5), open tables in several locations of room. Got drinks, waited another 30 minutes for appetizers. Waiter took our food order 2 hours later we still had not received our meals. (watched tables around us be seated, get their meals, eat and leave.) At this point we were very aggravated and decided to leave. Part of our party still had to drive another hour and a half to get home. When we asked to speak to the manager (who was very rude to us) we were told our order had been turned in 30 minutes ago (definitely not true) and we needed to pay for the meals we had ordered or it would come out of the waiters pay. As we were talking to the manager they start bringing out our order. Because my daughter works in the food service industry she felt bad for the waiter and paid the bill (almost $300). Will not ever go back to this restaurant. Really bad experience. Don't know who owns this place but you might want to check out the staff you have hired. read more

We took retired army buddies and wives here to share our culture . We were greeted poorly right upon entrance . We asked to sit outside to show our beautiful spring day and river . They cannot accommodate 7 people . We were separated husbands and wives and that was fine except we were charged an automatic tip of ( $45 ) as if we were a party of 7. At the wives table 6 we moved one table away to be more intimate because there were only three of us we were curtly told we could not move a table . Very uncomfortable visit . What happen to our " southern hospitality " we are so famous for ? The menu is very deceiving. Asked for a stuff crab and an appetizer and they said no they can't do an add on to an appetizer. Then I asked for the stuffed crab to be served with my poboy. My niece and nephew work here and I'm never disappointed with the food when I'm visiting in Maurepas. The Hilltop easily feeds 3-4 ppl.

The food and server Whitney were great. Being under staffed, it seemed a bit unorganized. Saw several couples leave, not sure how long their wait was. Ours was about 45 minutes, on average, not bad. After we were seated, our server, Whitney, was courteous and attentive. We made our complete Order at the same time, drinks, appetizer, and meal. To avoid being lost in the shuffle. Though our appetizer arrived AFTER our salad, we were hungry, so, no foul....My steak was to order and NOT over done. The wife's Half and Half was satisfying to her. Super tasty- real local food! We love hill top due to its extremely low key atmosphere. It's still top notch Cajun food without the suit and tie. I ordered a grilled shrimp salad. TO DIE FOR. Really freaking good. Husband got the steak with grilled shrimp on top. Be warned: the wait staff move around like bees. They are always moving so fast. Watch were you are walking. The only reason I gave them 4 instead o 5 stars is because the waitress passed us up twice when we were ready to order. This place is a MUST! read more

If you want large portions of fried foods this is the place to come to! We had fried green tomatoes for appetizers topped with lump crabmeat as a topping. We had a choice of just having extra fried green tomatoes for half the price instead of having the lump crabmeat. We chose having the lump crabmeat for the listed menu price. There was just a little bit of lump crabmeat as a topping. It was good. We spilt the Two-Step Crawfish with fried crawfish and crawfish étouffée. It came with a side salad and garlic Texas toast. The high price food is wretched and greasy. The beer is expensive. The view is obstructed. The music on the patio comes from a radio that is tuned to the static inbetween the stations. I don't understand the attraction. Oh that's right people on boats on the river have few choices. read more

I heard about this place numerous times. From what I hear they have a great steak but unfortunately I can not testify to this. I went in for lunch as a surprise birthday lunch during work. Our waitress was super friendly despite my pickiness. I'm not a big fan of those plain frozen fries which is what they had. Thankfully I tried the sweet potato fries which really hit the spot but they were a little too cool by the time they got to me. I had the double meat cheeseburger. They have a well seasoned meat cooked but still juicy. I wasn't sure if I was hungry enough for the double meat but I would have been disappointed if not because the patty wasn't to thick. The was absolutely deliciously messy. Not too shabby for an occasional lunch. I think I'd rather make time to try the steak. Also if you are out on the diversion canal in your boat this is certainly one of the best two places to tie off for a meal. read more

Terrible, insulting experience! After making our family party of 9 wait for 45 minutes, when the table they sat us at was empty the whole time! We eventually got our appetizers, after a long wait. But what did it for us was, after being seated at 6:30, at 8:30 still no entrees. My 90 yr old mother in a wheelchair is getting tired. Our waitress didn't refill drinks, or check on us but a couple of times while we aired, and waited and waited. Finally my husband walked over to the group of about half a dozen young waitresses to ask about our dinner. Someone finally said it was on the line. But no one served us. Our waitress is standing around. At that point someone should jump to it, right? But no. Husband back at the table to let us know. Still nothing comes out. BTW asked for a manager, but there isn't one. We decide to just leave. The waitresses let the owners know and they come out. Our food wasn't put in until 7:40, over an hour after we were seated. Maybe the worst was the owners got angry at us! Took no responsibility for the staff's incompetence. We said we shouldn't have to pay after the way we were treated. He threatened to call the police. Horrible service, horrible rude management, and at this point what the food tasted like does not matter. I mean, the owners offered no real apology! Parties of 6 who were seated after us were served, and finishing up when we left unserved. We only ordered 7 entrees. read more

We decided to stop here while out on the boat because they had outside seating. My husband and I had never been here but the other couple we were with had. Boy were we pleasantly surprised!! From the moment we walked in everybody was so hospitable and polite. Ms. Ronnie was our waitress and she was one of the best we had ever had!! She was so relatable and never hesitated to help us. Hilltop is very lucky to employ such a genuine soul!! 2 of us ordered cheese burgers and it was the best burger!! Very flavorful with true backyard burger taste. One of us got the shrimp poboy and it was dressed perfectly along with very appropriate bread. The hushpuppies are a must have as well. We will definitely be back!!! read more

I recommend the spinach dip and the fried mushrooms with remoulade instead of ranch. I don't eat fried food often but when I do, I go to Hill Top! Make sure you confirm they are open before you drive out there...I've made the trip more than once only to find them closed. Crabmeat stuffed mushrooms were lightly battered and fried simply. The mixed plate of fried shrimp and crawfish tails were the same. Had crab au gratin appetizer, there were plenty of lumps of white meat the size of my thumbs. We sat next to a large window looking out over the water and the grassy area with tables.
