I tried their pizza and my waitress informed me that it's made in a brick oven. The pizza was thin crisp. I liked that they offered vegan options as well upon request. I enjoyed the light crisp of the pizza with each bite. However, there were 2 slices that had some cold spots in the center which I skipped eating. In general, it was tasty despite the cold spots. It's next door to the Hungarian Pastry Shop and right across the street from the beautiful St. John Divine Cathedral that has a beautiful Art Sculpture garden. Did he fetch another chair? Or say anything at all? Nope. We stood around until another table (3 people at a 4 top) offered us their unused chair. Patio smelled like fertilizer and was swarming with flies. Service was consistently slow to arrive and then brusque at the table. Brut rosé was flat. Manhattan was watery. Arugula salad was bland. Spatzle with chicken was mediocre and watery from chopped tomatoes. Burger was ordered medium rare but came medium, with an over-toasted (or stale) hard brioche bun. We wanted to like this place, but it was just a mess (and an expensive one at that). read more

This place. I order a Salad nicoise. After 40 minutes of waiting, It come to me without lettuce, without olives, without egg, without anchovy. I ask for an egg. 20 minutes later, I ask again. Ten minutes later I ask again. Ten minutes later I ask again. Meanwhile, my daughter orders the mushroom side that says it is mixed with spinach and goat cheese. It arrives without spinach or cheese, just mushrooms. Meanwhile, we ask for bread for the table. We ask OVER THE COURSE OF AN HOUR FOUR TIMES FOR BREAD AND THE FRIGGING EGG. The place was empty except for one other table when we arrived. They get our drink orders wrong. Twice. They bring my daughter the same drink. Twice. My husband gets up and asks them in person THREE TIMES for bread and the egg. No apology, no worry at all. Once we are done eating the egg comes, and it's fried, not hard boiled as in the Nicoise description. Still no olives, lettuce; still no spinach or goat cheese. Still no bread. There are two waitresses for now four tables. Then the bill comes. They have charged us for two more drinks and two salads. I ask to have the salad comped because half of it never arrived. They don't comp it and two salads are still there. We go back and forth over the bill. It takes two hours start to finish and costs $200. Here is what we had: one shitty salad. A side of mushrooms. French fries. Scallops. Two drinks. $200. Thanks for ruining our graduation day brunch, Marlow. You suck. read more

Today I experienced one of the most spectacularly inept brunch services I've ever had in my 26 years in NYC. Was with three friends; they ordered pancakes or French toast, while I ordered their poached eggs with polenta. When I got my meal, I asked for toast. Umm we don't have toast, they replied. What... a brunch place that has no toast? The guy seemed completely at a loss. Ok moving on - I took a mouthful of what was basically pure salt. Completely inedible (and I do like salt). I immediately returned it and asked for pancakes instead and another latte. The minutes ticked by... no one came back to the table, and my friends finished their meals. We waited an additional 10 minutes past that, and still no one came back by - not even with my latte. So finally I hunted down our waiter and asked for our check. Apparently he had JUST put in my pancake order (at least 20 minutes after I'd returned my food, if not longer!!) but I said no, we wanted out. I went back to the table and another 10 minutes went by, whereupon three of us walked out (the fourth insisted on having another conversation with the waiter -- the rest of us were ok with approximating the bill and leaving cash on the table, all things considered). FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. UNLESS YOU LIKE SITTING AROUND AND NOT EVER ACTUALLY EATING ANYTHING IN WHICH CASE THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. read more

Hands down best Italian pizza I've had in nyc, and I've tried quite a few places, including the supposedly authentic Eataly, but nothing comes close to the pizza here. Moist but not greasy, super thin crust just the way I like it. Super cute and cozy interior and exterior (terrace seating!!) that's shows good taste. Rarely does a restaurant in this neighborhood have both good food and good dining environment; the ones on broadway that have outdoor seating are typically very noisy and overpriced and underwhelming, but this restaurant is located one block away from broadway and is very quiet and almost gives you an illusion of being in Europe, which is the highest praise I can give a restaurant specializing in European cuisine. This Upper West Side gem catches your eyes from the moment you see the beautiful floral decoration outside. But nothing can prepare you for the beauty inside the restaurant. You are immediately transported to a luscious field of flowers. In the background you hear a variety of seductive music that is so pleasing and just loud enough that you want to close your eyes and let it transport you. I decided to have my first grandchild's baby shower there. It was perfect. Elena and her staff made this such a memorable occasion, from the decor to the exquisite menu. I went here for brunch on a Sunday. I loved the decor, elegant but still very warm and inviting. It is right by the Columbia undergrad campus, but the diners seemed to be a combination of families and students. While they had brunch drinks available, they're not necessarily the go-to pick for a rowdy drunk brunch. However it was perfect for a lovely brunch with the girlfriends. We were lucky enough to sit outside since the weather was so beautiful. It was gorgeous! For brunch, I ordered the organic poached eggs, and my friends got the burrata on house baguette and the emiliana pizza. The organic poached eggs were to DIE for; they were on a bed of creamy polenta that melted in my mouth. My friends were extremely pleased with their dishes as well - all the portions were a good, hearty size. Lastly, for the table we split the french toast which was another huge hit with us. After walking past Marlow Bistro every day for the 5 months I've lived around the corner I finally got to eat here. I'm sad I waited, though it's probably for the best because I've saved a ton of money not knowing how delicious the food is. Marlow has ample outdoor seating, with plenty of room between the tables. Every employee I saw or interacted with was wearing a mask and gloves. Since March I've only eaten out twice, and I felt very comfortable here. Anyway. I ordered a frose (not my usual but it's hot and who doesn't like a frozen drink plus they add rum so it's extra strong), the burrata, and the carbonara ravioli. Everything was phenomenal, I would eat the same meal again tomorrow. Burrata was super creamy, with fresh cherry tomatoes for some acidity and the zaatar olive oil was perfect for a summer evening. The carbonara ravioli was incredibly flavorful. The braised mushrooms were honestly perfect - so much umami, just the right amount of salt. The smoked chicken was beyond tender, with a lovely smokey flavor. The ravioli were also delicious, very well cooked and just the right size. I'm so glad I finally tried Marlow Bistro, they are definitely going to be regulars on my take out roster from now on. read more

Great selection of healthy yet delicious foods and cocktails. Portions are a healthy size -- not too large so you will probably want to get an appetizer and main dish. Great aged cocktails -- try the aged negroni. Also -- the ambience is great. Big windows with lots of light at all tables -- outdoor seating in summer. The tables are not too close to each other like at some NYC spots. Bar area is nice too to enjoy a good cocktail right by the stone pizza oven. Although bar area is a bit separated from the rest of place so sometimes the wait staff will forget about you there. read more

Really unfortunate and embarrassing to bring my mom and family here from out of town for Mother's Day. Cringing just thinking of how terrible of a meal and even worse service Details: was not busy. I came in at 3pm once it calmed down. We ordered French toast, ricotta pancakes, seafood risotto ("shrimp calamari and lobster") and a salami pizza. We were reallly excited because everything sounded so good, this is what we experienced upon arrival-- French toast: They brought out waffles that with none of the ingredients that were listed on the menu. We told them we ordered French toast not waffles so they took it back. CAME BACK with the same waffles and said there's no French toast and this is what we have and placed it on the table forcing us to eat it? Awkward and unpleasant. I wish I would've been asked if it was ok before ordering and after the fact asking if I was ok w keeping the waffles, but nope. Seafood risotto: looks nothing like what's on yelp. Red tomato sauce, Barely any seafood. Listen to the reviews on here-- you'll pay $30 for 1 shrimp Salami pizza: I'm not joking, we lifted a slice and alll of the cheese sauce and ingredients slid right off of it like a frozen pizza that wasn't cooked long enough. We didn't really have to say anything. The servers way of asking if we wanted something else to replace it "what else do you want instead of the pizza" in passing while going to attend another table. No sorry about that, or anything after they had already messed up on the French toast. Ricotta pancakes: only awesome thing at this place. Hostess was nice and told me "thanks for being a good sport" for not sending back the food even though it's not what we ordered. This review is only for brunch. Marlow Bistro has an amazing ambience, decent food, and service that is a work-in-progress. I could see it becoming a popular neighborhood fixture, but not without some changes. The interior is decorated in chic French farmhouse decor, and has nice open windows that are literally filled with plants. It's utterly charming. The brunch menu skews towards non-egg items. Their mushroom dishes are on point, and I enjoyed the Eggs Florentine and Croque Madame, though they were both a bit on the heavy side (with their respective cream sauces). All brunch items seem to be served with a nice oil and vinegar salad and some disappointing fingerling potatoes (they could be crunchier and less salty). The biggest issue so far is service. Their drip coffee is tasty, but at $4, I expected at least a refill, which I think is customary at most brunch restaurants. Both times, servers have taken a long time to take orders and deliver dishes, even when the restaurant was practically empty. They also do not have pepper on the tables, which is a bit odd, and it took 10 minutes to hunt down a server for pepper for egg dishes. All in all, I see it as a work in progress that has the right pieces to grow into a fantastic brunch option for Harlem/Morningside Heights. read more

Moreover the people working there are chill, welcoming and just want you to cozy up and enjoy their hospitality and great food and space. The chef has run with some of the "big dog" NYC restaurants and chefs and knows his stuff. Brunch was delightful. Looking forward to going back for dinner. We went for a lovely Friday evening dinner. The weather was gorgeous so we sat outside. We thought we knew the restaurants in the neighbourhood pretty well, but this places surprised us as a hidden gem of the Upper West Side. Plenty of great options on the menu e.g., lobster pasta, farm chicken, along with other wholesome farm-to-table selections, so again surprising when we settled on a salad, pizza and burger; although it was just what we were feeling like that evening. The burger arrived.. this is THE BEST BURGER IN NEW YORK.. do yourselves a favour and check it out. Say hi to the chef, who must be some sort of icon. Impeccable service, Stefan was attentive and so helpful (as I'm sure the other staff are). The food was exquisite!! We weren't initially planning desert, but given the previous courses were awesome we went for it. The chocolate mousse delivered again!! Unacceptable service. Good food. I live nearby and have always wanted to come bc it looks so cute and the ambiance is great, and so tonight my girlfriends and I went over to celebrate an occasion. The food is great so please go for the food, but we were not waited on at all. We poured our own wine and Perrier. The waiter did not come to see how we liked the food or how we were doing, and the final straw is when I found a strand of blonde, thin hair (I'm Asian) in my risotto as I was taking my last few bites, and the first thing she said is "are you sure it's not yours? I don't think it's mine." She did take my entree off the bill but the attitude and service throughout the entire night was simply unacceptable. She did not apologize on behalf of the restaurant or the kitchen, and made no gestures to make up for it somehow. I am legitimately disappointed that my first and last time at Marlow's, which I had looked forward to for some time, is ruined by the terrible service (she basically treated us like we were dumb, spoiled undergrad biddies and I am a working woman who just finished grad school). read more

This place has one of my favourite dishes in New York: Warm Farro Salad. ***Warm Farro Salad*** To be honest, I didn't think of ordering it but my friend got it and I am so glad she did. The lemon ricotta was so fresh and delicious and the farro is very filling and creamy. That said the parsley and pumpkin seeds adds a nice crisp and makes the dish feel healthy ! The dish is also incredibly beautiful. ***Poached Eggs*** The poached eggs dish is also quite pleasant with a great bacon sauce. Seriously, amazing bacon sauce. I wish they sold that by the bottle. However, the dish really needs a crunch factor. ***The Balkan Goulash.*** Oh the Balkan goulash. Just bring me a couch, turn on some Netflix, and enjoy a flavor explosion. This is comfort food but it doesn't make you feel like you need to run 62 marathons to burn it off. Delicious! ***The Marlow Burger.*** Fries are actually really delicious and perfectly spiced. But let's talk about the burger. The burger is actually stuffed with all the delicious flavors so nothing falls out of the burger which is always nice. But I actually don't like the texture of the burger. ***The Truffles Croque Madam**** The truffled croque madam sandwich is what I ordered because I love mushrooms. But I was a little disappointed. Charming little spot near the 110th stop and great place to impress your out-of-town friend or romantic date you just met off fill-in-the-blank dating app. I showed up at 7pm on the dot and the place was about 25% full. All the staff extremely nice here while I decided if I should be seated before my friend showed up or to sidle up to the bar to quench that post-work thirst. The latter choice won me over and I found myself seated at the bar and right when my Strauss bier showed up (and it was tall one), my dining me appeared! There are two dining areas available. If you like a more casual (and very cozy) dining experience, head to the smaller of the two rooms, where there is a lovely bar and a few high top tables and a beautiful pizza oven which makes the room so nice and toasty. If you want a more formal (but still cozy) eating experience, make your way to the main room. We sat in the middle of the room and presented with menus immediately. Menu is of the Italian persuasion, well curated and there is separate list for the pizzas. I was tempted by the pizza list, so likely I will come back to give the pizzas a try as the oven looked legit enough. I ordered the branzino ($23) and my colleague/friend had the steak medium ($25). My dish was cooked well with an excellent beet puree, radishes and brussel sprouts. Thumbs up there! My colleague swallowed her steak and then also asked for a side of veggies. Too bad the steak was lonely and did not come with a side of any kind. After dinner, we lingered for a bit longer and both had a few more drinks. The place was very inviting and since I had also not seen my friend for over a 1.5 years, we loitered for a bit longer and nurses some wine and Negronis. At the end of the evening, I was embarrassed that my friend was able to beat me in paying (after all she was visiting from Holland) for dinner. I was at least able to chip in for tip ($27) and promised her we would see each other again to return the favor. We came here for the ambiance since this place has a quaint rustic charm about it. I love the faded exposed brick throughout the space. We came for an early brunch on Sunday so we didn't have to wait to be seated, however they do get crowded so I'd recommend making reservations. I had the mushroom croque madame. It's basically mushrooms and cheese between two loaves of toasted bread. There was also a sunny side up egg on top. It was solid, although I was more impressed by the big side salad. Next time I visit I'll have to try out their pizza. It looked appealing. This is a really charming place in the 110s with decent food and a chill vibe.
