So here I am after dropping a friend off to a meeting. I'm not terribly hungry but my trusty Yelp app singles out this place. I find a metered space a block away and park. From the outside the place looks great. I go in and decide to sit outside and am told to pick a place My waitress comes and I ask for a glass of the house red. She says it's a pino noir and it is a great deal at $8 I know what I want right away the lasagna The wine comes shortly followed by the pasta. Everything is great. Wine is smooth, not too strong Lasagna a nice portion served on a cast iron skillet. The lasagne has a great tomato sauce that is smooth with a hint of sweetness I order a second glass of wine taking my time to savor everything. At the end I ask for the check which my waitress brings over. $56! Gee I look and the glass of wine isn't $8 they're $13 a glass! I motion to the waitress and point out the mistake. She explains she made a mistake. She brought me the more expensive pino because she forgot the house was a different wine. I decide not to make an issue of it. But wonder how many other people unsuspectingly have the same switcharoo, and just reflexively pay? I'm a bit disappointed and not happy about this. I think gee this is why people aren't going out? It comes the same week my other Brooklyn restaurant was an overpriced disappointment. Both times beverage, liquor or wine based. So I can't let this pass on Yelp here. Mom said we were going out for Italian. Naturally, I assumed this meant unlimited pizza crust. We visited Osteria Cotta, a cozy two-story neighborhood Italian restaurant with a large outdoor patio in front. There was plenty of space for everyone, and I wasn't the only pup there--there were several other dogs enjoying dinner with their families. The humans who worked there were incredibly nice and spent a lot of time telling me how handsome I am. (It's important to surround yourself with honest people.) Mom ordered the Tartufo pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto, along with a non-alcoholic rosé. Dad ordered the Penne Pomodoro with a glass of red wine and somehow found room for an espresso martini after dinner. I ordered... ...absolutely nothing. There isn't a dog menu, and no water bowl was offered, so I'd recommend bringing your own water if you're visiting with your pup. Even though I didn't receive the pizza crust I had mentally budgeted for, the atmosphere was relaxed, the patio was spacious, and everyone made me feel welcome. It's a great place if you want a nice Italian dinner without leaving your best friend at home. Dogba's Verdict Big outdoor patio? Plenty of fellow dogs? Staff who immediately loved me? Great Bottomless Brunch! My friends and I came here yesterday to celebrate a birthday. We had the best time! All of us did the bottomless option which is $36 for an entree and 90 minutes of unlimited mimosas or white sangria. You can pick any brunch entree or any of their pastas and pizzas! Loved that that was an option. I had the tartufo pizza, which had truffle, mushrooms, and speck. It was delish! Loved the chew on the crust and how thin it was. They also had chili oil and adding that was perfection. I would definitely order this again! The bottomless part of the experience was great. We always had a carafe and as soon as it was empty, it was refilled immediately. Just what you want at bottomless brunch! I did feel like the mimosas were a little too heavy on the orange juice IMO, but that happens often at bottomless brunch. I would definitely come back here for brunch! Got the gnocchi, verdure pizza, baked ricotta and a the phony martini. The phony martini had a subtle smokiness and good flavoring. The baked ricotta came with a flatbread and it was absolutely delicious. Large serving. The gnocchi was boiled to perfection, fairly good aromatic flavoring, fresh basil atop though nothing that blew me off my feet. The personal veggie pizza was delicious, great underbread-char. It's not ideal for large groups. I speak Spanish our sodas were diet I asked the busboy to switch them out because we hadn't ordered diet . We nice I did the new waiter not our waitress was better . The good as my daughter described it was like diner food ... which discounts how great diner can be but the pasta wasn't amazing . My fish had the skin on top and it covered not crusted in almonds .look you can have an off night but when the service and food are terrible it's a no . A really solid UWS experience. The Aviation cocktail was one of the better ones I've had. Lemony with just enough Maraschino liqueur. The small dishes were plentiful and well prepared. The meatball was moist and well-seasoned. The calamari was lightly battered, fresh and slightly salty- perfect. The shrimp scampi sauce was just right, but the shrimp could have been slightly less cooked but no big deal. The pizza was light, thin and perfectly baked and topped with basil and fresh prosciutto. Met old friends here for a wonderful Sunday evening dinner reunion. We sat at one of the high top rectangular tables in main bar area. Two had pastas (pappardelle with bolognese and spaghetti with clams.) One had the great chicken. I had the pizza with spinach, olives, peppers. All the food was excellent. I attended a group dinner upstairs in the back room at Osteria Cotta. The family-style portions were very generous and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. This is Italian American comfort food: meatballs, fried calamari, arancini, pizza, spaghetti. And for the most part, it's very tasty. I found the desserts forgettable. The wine also wasn't great (I sampled 3 of the 4 on offer and didn't want more than a sip of any of the selections) but I cannot be sure who made the wine choices, so I won't hold that against Osteria Cotta. The restaurant is easily accessible by subway (that's how I arrived here) and the short walk from the station to the restaurant was picturesque (think: romantic comedy set in New York). read more

Pro: the food & price We were a party of 9 and did the family style menu. The portions were great and came in a nice flow. Con: the service. Our waitress was so rude & i would've honestly not tipped her if it wasn't already included in our bill. I want to say we were an easy bunch, we knew our food selections right when we sat down as we had looked at the menu prior to arriving. When she was taking the drink orders, I asked her for the mocktails and she responded with a ton of attitude & was like "they're all on the menu" and moved on to another person in the party. There are no shortage of charming Italian spots on the Upper West Side. While Osteria Cotto doesn't exactly stand out from the pack, it made for a pleasant meal on a Friday night. Famished after wandering around the Winter Village at Bryant Park, we went uptown and got a table without a reservation, being led to the dining room upstairs. The rustic, brick lined walls and low lighting made for a romantic atmosphere while the menu covered the expected mix of antipasti, pizzas, pastas, and heartier entrees. We split two pizzas: the Tartufo (truffle cream + truffle oil + mushrooms) and the Verdure (San Marzano tomatoes + mushrooms + spinach + roasted red pepper + olive, made on request with burrata rather than mozzarella). Both pizzas were crisp and very well made, with the truffle aroma not overpowering the Tartufo and the briny olives on the Verdure bringing a depth of flavour to the dish. Wow! This place is great and totally unexpected from the exterior! It seems super small from the entrance and reception/bar area but has sooo much seating on the top floor and in the back! The downstairs and bar area is definitely very hectic and too crowded to sit, but the upstairs is really nice. We got the veggie pizza, pesto pasta, and beets & truffle fries. Probably not the best order, but nonetheless the food was average, unfortunately. The pizza was limp and soggy. The pasta was super good and flavorful. I wish there was a little more spice or I had asked for chili flakes. The beets were unique and tasty. The fries could've been crispier but the truffle was clear. The food wasn't very impressive, but with a better order of the classics would have put is in a better place. The food is also not too expensive and not overly filling. And the beets are a perfect refresher veggie for the table. Pretty average food overall. Came here for happy hour and they have some small bites and drinks for a decent price. You can get a personal pie (any pizza from their regular menu) for just $8 which is pretty nice but the pizza is smaller of course. We got the meatball and amatriciana and both were pretty mid. The sauce was really watery on both and I didn't love either of them. That being said, they were also only $8 which is a steal in the city. Overall, I would recommend this place if you want a good bang for your buck. read more

This is such a cute restaurant! I came here with some friends for dinner and we had a really nice time. I ordered the orecchiette which was good but I kinda ended up regretting simply because I got tired of it after my first few bites. This dish would've been better if it had more complexity or was less homogeneous. Everything was all one flavor is that made sense, it would've been good paired with something like blackened salmon I think. One of my friends got the lasagna which was actually incredible! I highlyyy recommend. The baked ricotta was fine but nothing special and the chocolate cake was good but would've been better served warm and with some more strawberries since it really brought out a nice taste in the chocolate.
