Super disappointed. We've been here before, food is good a solid 4 stars. BUT - the service was just so disappointing - we live in the area and really wanted this to be a regular spot but likely wont return after today. We made a reservation for 8 people at 4pm on a Sunday. Aka - early bird special and they were not busy at ALL. If the restaurant was packed I could understand slow service but we were literally the only ones seated outside and they had very few people inside. Issues: - Slowwwww service. Took forever to take our orders and even longer to get the food. - When we finished dinner our way waiter asked us if we were ready for the check - at a nice restaurant they should know to at least bring out dessert and coffee menus - made us feel like they wanted us out - The worst part - I called ahead to let them know we were celebrating my brothers birthday. No mention of it, no candle, no happy bday, no nada. I really wanted to love this place. So many better spots in the area including Eli's right next door. Skip this one. read more

Went here for lunch on a weekday and it was lovely. I work nearby and have walked past many times but this was my first time eating here. In the area meeting with family from out of town. My wife and her aunt decided on Marlow Bistro. Party of eleven, so we called ahead for reservations. Pleasant greeting upon arrival, and we were seated immediately. One of the first things to catch my eye was the decor. The white washed brick, the wooden furniture and accents, the plants and the view from the large windows gave the place a warm feeling with a cool vibe. Didn't get that from the simplistic outside but, once inside and seated... really like it. The menu was standard brunch size, reasonable number of options as to not overwhelm. Our server was patient and helpful, answering all questions with a personable demeanor. She was attentive and at the same time not overbearing. The food orders placed came out timely and and within minutes of each other. Dishes ordered; French Toast, Warm Farrow Salad, Margherita Pizza, and Goulash. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We sat and talked and had the opportunity to enjoy our time and the beautiful restaurant. Would definitely return. Great place to meet, enjoy a meal and spend time. read more

Run. Don't walk to this hidden, unassuming gem of a restaurant. We stumbled on this place by accident, and were lured in by the beautiful interior decor. We were met with an incredibly warm and friendly staff, our waitress (I think her name was Jessica) was just so wonderful and gave us so much special attention that she deserves a shout out. But let me get to the important part: THE FOOD. Every single thing we tried was superb. Extremely well composed, so flavorful, so perfectly cooked, and beautifully plated, truly such an exceptional dining experience from a small little spot on the corner of 110th and Amsterdam. We tried the sweet corn custard, which was...I don't even know how to describe it--creative, perfectly composed, all the flavors worked so well together and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever tried. We had the burrata (of course) over pesto with grilled peaches, we had a few different kinds of pizzas and...the carbonara. The carbonara is what defines this place, it's extremely flavorful and perfectly cooked, and rivals some of the more upscale Italian places for half the cost. Awesome European style bistro with the added twist of Pizza! We had a wonderful Amsterdam facing table and our waiters pace with us was text book perfect. There when you needed him and not there when we didn't. The pace here is relaxed and we could have sat for another hour over some of their wonderful coffee. Wow! A perfect NYC French/Italian bistro. We could have been in Paris. I loved the French Cafe music playing at a soothing level. I enjoyed a sumptuous Bellini, Burrata and the best risotto (shrimp) I've ever had. It had an interesting flavor (a touch of turmeric?). I ended my meal with strawberry pannacotta. Joe had a lemon tart. Everything was straight A's. Tiny criticism: the burrata salad had a bit too much balsamic vinaigrette. The servers, Antonio and Elena were both gracious and attentive, even though they were kept busy with a large table. Another wee criticism: they didn't have black tea, but I carry my own in a little sachet bag, so it wasn't a problem. I got the Carbonara which was delicious, often times carbonaras are too greasy, but this one was not with the perfect al dente pasta. My husband got the rigatoni which was very delicious. My wife and I live two blocks away and I pass by Marlowes daily. Very frequently I think to myself, "Gosh, I really ought to try that place." Tonight we were out and about and the lady mentioned she was hungry. We happened to be walking down Amsterdam and I spotted Marlowes. Air conditioning, a relatively busy restaurant and what looked like good wine clinched the deal (let's be honest, the A/C was a big seller). My wife is very gluten-free but wanted to splurge, and this is a gluten-forward establishment so she went hard by picking a pasta dish, the gemelli. I picked the funghi misti pizza featuring truffle (not sure if oil or true truffle). We made pleasant conversation amid the lovely ambiance and in no time our food arrived. I forgot to mention I ordered a superb glass of wine, the supertoscan. My wife chose a fantastic pasta. I immediately recognized it as hand made. The sauce culminated in an excellent savory flavor without distracting from the delicious chewy pasta. The sauce included unobtrusive chunks of cod, and bits of shaved almonds providing a decadent textural experience. There is no real way to describe this dish by its ingredients, it was somehow so much more than the sum of its parts. My pizza arrived on a shiny aluminum platter, a smattering of mushrooms atop the perfect ratio of glossy, melted cheese with thin crust staying true to its Italian roots. Needless to say, we truly enjoyed our meals. As we polished off our plates, the waitress asked if we wanted dessert. A great meal like that promised of a wondrous dessert so I asked to see the menu. Knowing my wife's fancy of all things rose, the rose semolina cake immediately caught my eye. Our lovely waitress brought over a large, beautiful spread of rose ice cream, some sort of whipped passion fruit cream and semolina cake. The dessert was a new experience but one we dove into with zero reservations. All things told, we had a meal and an experience and are looking forward to returning for another wondrous time. read more

Coming here feels like you are being transported to a bistro in Paris. It has a bistro-esque decor with windows all around that I assume open in the summer time. It has a modern feel with all the fixings of a good lunch spot. The waiter was very helpful always checking on us to make sure we were ok. This is a higher price point for the area so I wanted to see if the price met the quality. The burger jumped out at me because if I see a burger on the menu I usually have to try. This one had a lot of funky ingredients to it. It was hard to eat since it was messy. All the condiments that come on it sort of overpower the burger. It is not bad and the meat tasted fresh but it did not eat well. The fries that come with it were decent. They are thicker fries and they were seasoned well. I am more of a thin frie guy but I won't hold that against them. My friend got the butternut squash agnolli. It is a smaller portion than I would expect for the price but she said it was good. Another positive here is that they had good wifi. I love places that have good wifi and they didn't rush us out. We enjoyed our meal and did some work on top of that. I am torn between 3 or 4 stars here. You can see they put effort into making the restaurant top notch but I don't know if it hit the mark food wise. It wouldn't be my first recommendation in this area but if you need some lunch give it a try. read more

Graduation season, graduation season, this place was packed! It was a beautiful restaurant, nice dark wood tables, flowers hanging from the ceiling as decoration. We were able to get seated rather quickly which was surprising but hey, I won't question it. The reason for the 2 star review is the portion sizes to price ratio, and the staff's service. The staff didn't seem very pleased to see us at all. We expected the staff to bring out the complimentary bread and olive oil while we perused the menu. Nope, we had to ask for it, and they look annoyed when we did. The bread itself was very soft and unenjoyable. The prices were way too expensive for what we received. I ordered the Homemade Ravioli alla Vodka for $26. I was excited as I read all the pasta was made in house. But when the plate came out the portion size was more than disappointing. $26, and I got about 10-11 pieces of ravioli. I could have eaten 3 servings of that and still not have been filled. The chicken inside the ravioli was also very bland. My friend got the Gemelli Bolognese and almost had to empty the entire salt container into the plate. Also I don't know if this is a normal practice in NY, but when the bill came out it already included a 20% gratuity (table of 6, I understand). Gratuity for table of 6 or larger I totally get, and it is totally warranted. However I didn't like that there was another line to add more tip and write the total. If I didn't notice that gratuity was already included, I would have accidentally tipped more, be aware! Won't be returning to Marlow. read more

Was very excited when we sat down because the ambiance is very lovely - open layout, lots of green, and big windows. However, if you don't like your eggs runny and somewhat undercooked, this may not be your place. I ordered the organic poached eggs. Unfortunately, really runny eggs gross me out. When I brought it up, our waiter told me that's how the chef makes ("Mediterranean style") and the chef would not make it any other way. While I get it, I was disappointed in the handling particularly because the menu just said "poached." Overall, the service was not great and we felt pretty ignored. My boyfriend tried the whole time to get his coffee refilled. We were done with our food by the time it happened and our waiter forgot to bring more cream. The restaurant had empty tables so I don't think it was a an issue with them being too busy. It's a shame because I loved my first impression and my iced chai was great. I was really disappointed. I don't normally review but the service and food was really poor. It was Sunday night and busy with one waiter that we had to ask to come to us and never checked in. Ordered the ceviche and it was warm and not cooked all the way. We asked the server if maybe it was just made differently then normal and he said no it should be lime as normal (had no hint of lime just fishy) and the it sat under the heat warmer for too long. He didn't ask to correct it, just took the full plate uneaten and still charged us for it. I had a delicious brunch at Marlow Bistro. It's a super cute french place just into Harlem. We were seated right away in a comfy corner booth. We had trouble deciding what to order because everything sounded so good. I finally decided on the poached eggs with Brussels sprouts and polenta. It was delicious and I finished every bite. They don't serve large portions but it's probably the amount you are supposed to eat for a meal. All in all, I really loved the decor and vibes from this restaurant, but I expected more in terms of service. There's a coat rack next to the entrance, which is very convenient for cold days. Our table of two was seated close to the entrance--not an ideal spot, but the breeze from when the front door opened didn't bother us too much. Our server came up shortly after we sat down to ask what type of water we preferred, and that's about as attentive he was all night. It took a long time for him to return to take our orders, and although I requested a pizza without arugula, he must have forgotten. I will say though, the kitchen was very speedy and they were able to remove all the arugula within a few minutes. Given that it was a Friday night, I understand the restaurant was busy--if you plan on eating here on a weekend or Friday, I would budget at least an hour and a half for dinner. Food-wise, the pizza was good, but you could definitely find better pizza for the price elsewhere. They are pretty big though, so you could save half of the pizza as a later meal. read more

My friend and I sat on the comfortable patio for hours enjoying novel Niçoise salads and very cold wine, with a slice of pineapple-coconut cake for dessert. And the cake was gluten free!
