I saw one of my favorite movies "Mr. Blanding Builds His Dream House". Mr. Blanding (played by Cary Grant) works for a New York AD Company. His assignment is to come up with a gingo for a client company that produces Ham. His idea "If it doesn't say WHAM it isn't Ham". Charlie and his staff are the best in Monterey County, if not all of Northern California. So, to paraphrase Mr. Blanding "If it doesn't say Marlowe Mercedes Werks it isn't Mercedes Works." Try Charlie once...you will never go anywhere else for your Mercedes. My 2004 E320 now has about 293,000 miles. Mercedes is a great car but without great service, it is just another car. read more

Thank you for fixing my transmission. I had been to several repair shop. One told me I needed a new transmission. The other shop said they didn't know what was wrong and said it was my fault because I couldn't explain the problem. Marlow MERCEDES-WERKS installed a new shifting linkage and all is great. I bought the 2003 Mercedes used with 145,000 miles now it shifts like a new transmission and I can get all 6 gears. (It is a strand transmission that is why I bought the car.) read more

There is great service, and then there is EXCEPTIONAL service - where people go above and beyond. THAT is what we experienced at Marlow Mercedes-Werks. On our anniversary getaway trip from LA, preparing to leave Carmel for our bucket list "top down" day drive along PCH, the convertible top of our 2001 500SL malfunctioned halfway down. I did a quick search for an independent Mercedes service provider nearby and found this absolute gem. This team stopped what they were doing to help us. A full 45 minutes later, Jesse Escobedo (who I later discovered was a Master Guild Technician!!) along with the help of 2 others, had our top locked down so we could be on our way. As if that wasn't enough, Cary Smith, Service Manager would not accept payment for their service!! After lots of thank yous, fist bumps and happily accepted tips, we were on our way. Not "top-down" as hoped, but even better ...full of gratitude for both their service and forever memories of their kindness. read more

Overall, seems like a great shop. Had a few small issues and left my vehicle for a week. Made it back to pick the van up and nothing had been done. They worked with me to rush the work, which we know often diminishes quality. Very few of the issues I arrived with were solved but I was left with a $1700 bill despite numerous comments about "working with me on the bill." Maybe just an unfortunate occurrence, but my personal experience nonetheless. read more

They are total crooks! Not only do they not fix what was wrong with your car the first time, but your car somehow has something new wrong with it right when you drive off, I shit you not. I kept going back a few times so that they could fix their mistakes until I had a mechanic check out my car before hand the last time I went there and caught them red handed! read more

I was interested in purchasing a 1980 240D (diesel) Mercedes and so I took the car to Charlie at Marlow Mercedes-Werks to give me his opinion as to the condition of the vehicle before I would decide to buy it. He told me that he would perform a full check but not perform a compression test on the vehicle. I kind of thought that this was odd but left it up to him to tell me what was important in determining whether I should buy the car. As it turned out, I discovered that the very most important diagnosis to perform before purchasing a diesel car/Mercedes is to give it a compression test. I guess I trusted him too much and I was a bit naive, however, you would think that Charlie would have steered me in the right direction. The car burns a lot of oil and I plan on replacing the engine soon. Furthermore, after having thought about it a bit more, the woman who sold the car to me knew Charlie and recommended him because she had her other Mercedes repaired by him... Charlie was probably quite interested in keeping her as a client and and didn't think much of misleading me since I was a one-time only client. read more

I have owned Mercedes cars exclusively since 1992, here on the Monterey Peninsula. I have known Charlie since he worked (on my cars) as a mechanic at the local Mercedes dealer. Until Charlie opened his own shop, I always took my cars to the dealer. But I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else but Charlie's now. Besides being a Certified Mercedes Master Mechanic (a certification one has to compete for), between Charlie and his senior mechanics Roger and Derek, and his service manager Kerry, himself also a former mechanic, together they have over 100 years of Mercedes mechanic experience! And Sue, in the front, has over 30 years office experience with Mercedes. All formerly worked at the local Mercedes dealer. Now they work for Charlie. That ought to tell you something. The best thing I can say professionally about Charlie is that he won't let you spend money needlessly on your car. This is a shop you can trust will always place your interest first. Stop by and just meet them. You'll get a good feeling about the place. I often ponder buying a different model car than a Mercedes -- I've always lusted after some Jaguars. But the thing that causes me the biggest anxiety about making such a change is losing Charlie's place as my shop. read more

I was traveling for business and staying at a nearby hotel for a conference when I had a problem with the cooling system and overheated. Marlow's came to the hotel to get my car and fixed it fast. Charlie could easily taken advantage of an out of town traveler, but fixed it fairly and inexpensively. My '07 S550 4matic ran perfect for the 400 mile trip home. Very professional and personable shop. There is no doubt that this would be my repair shop if I lived locally!!!! read more

I have owned Mercedes on and off for many years. While the local dealer does a very good job, Cary and Charlie at Marlow's go above and beyond. They have techs that know these cars as well as they can be known and they fix things and maintain you car right the first time. Very friendly and accommodating Indie repair shop. Better than the local Stealership, but best to get second opinion on their assessments of repairs needed. They recommended replacing the valve cover gaskets ($650) due to two perceived small oil leaks. Subsequently, I found out one leak was the oil filler cap and other was not gasket related. I have owned several Mercedes Benz cars since 1990, and have always dealt with my local dealership. After experiencing a diminishing sense of customer service and high prices, I decided to look at alternatives on the Monterey Peninsula. Christmas day 2110, I broke my timing chain on my 1998 500SL, basically because I was going to a local mechanic that had not been trained by MB and did not know what to look for on a 100 mile check-up on my type of car. I was referred to Charlie Marlow, who showed great patience in assisting me in making the decision to fix my car or buy a newer one. Not only did we get excellent service, but the staff and personnel were very accommodating. They thoroughly explained everything that was going on with my vehicle and detailed what was needed along with the costs. This was one of the best experiences that I've ever had at a service center EVER! They also replaced one of the marker bulbs that had burned out, free of charge. Nathan was great! I have been looking for three years for a competent, honest Mercedes Repair Shop and I finally found it. Charlie Marlow had been shop foreman for the local Mercedes Dealer for almost twenty years before opening his own business in nearby Seaside. His shop is clean, well equipped with all the most up to date equipment. I took my '92 300STE for a problem two other mechanics told me would cost almost $2000 to repair. Charlie found a disconnected hose, fixed it in about 10 minutes! Subsequently, he has performs other services in a most professional, competent manner. If I could give 100 stars to Marlow Mercedes Werks, I would! If you're on the Monterey Peninsula, don't hesitate to bring your car here over the dealer. My check engine light came on. The dealer and a local independent shop wanted $150-$180 just to do the diagnostics. Marlow does the diagnostic for free ninety free! The reception area is clean and welcoming. They take you on a tour of the shop where they will do the work. They are knowledgeable, warm and friendly, and respectful. My Service Advisor, Nathan, talked to me, not my husband, since it's my car. The owner, Charles Marlow, chatted like he didn't have anything else to do all day. Their prices are fair and reasonable. They have drop off and pick up service, and after all that, they washed my car! (Embarrassingly, since I hadn't washed it in a couple of months.) Had occasion to journey to Charlie's. Going to get my car serviced at Marlow is a fun experience. My dog does tricks in the showroom, everyone is very polite and laughs at my jokes. On a recent journey I had a concern, so I called Cary and he talked me through it and was very reassuring. In a previous missive I noted that I had been passed up for the good customer gift bag. Naturally I inquired of the management. Being one of the first customers Charlie had (my client number is 008) they presented me with a gift bag and effusive apologies. Ms. Charlie called me "special". I then repaired to the new client lounge to inspect the "swag". The "swag bag" is a power color , black and inscribed with the Marlow logo. My first item of note was the coffee cup with the Marlow logo. Can't have to many coffee mugs. The next two items were astounding. A Mount Blanc pen and a Hermes scarf. Over the top. To complement the pen a pad of post-it notes was thoughtfully included. Digging around in the bag the last item I found was a ham and cheese sandwich on ciabatta roll. Mrs. Charlie must have thought I looked hungry. On my way home I was looking at the swag and realized I wasn't really a scarf kind of guy, so I turned into a nearby 7-11 and sold it to some tourists in the parking lot. Happy motoring! read more

What an incredible alternative to the dealership. Owning a Mercedes usually means you are stuck going to the dealership for service which is always overpriced and tends to lack customer service. This was my first visit and won't be the last. I scheduled a D Service appointment along with a battery replacement very easily online and got a quick confirmation. The customer service was awesome. I was stuck without a car and they personally drove me home and came and picked me up when the car was ready. That's amazing service! Upon completion of the service, they explained everything they covered. I have had the car for 5 years and never got a real explanation as to what each service letter meant. I just took it in when needed. They pointed out 2 other issues that needed to be addressed and explained the process and reasoning clearly allowing me to make a decision as to when I want to take care of them. I feel a lot more educated about my car now and would highly recommend them. While in there, I saw other customers who the service team seemed to know by name. All around it is a true family operated business in which the customers seem to become family as well. Definitely try Marlow Mercedes-Werks instead of the dealership. They are certified and also give you a great warranty. read more
