Unfortunately we had a fairly disappointing visit. The service was slow, there was only one waiter so maybe it was a tough night. On the plus side the mussels were fantastic. The shrimp pasta and ricotta pasta were both very good. The pizzas were okay. But the gnocchi was actually inedible and the pasta bolognese was actually cold in parts as if it had been microwaved leaving parts of it hot and parts cold. I hope this is just a bad night and not the usual but I doubt I'll be back to find out. read more

We loved the pizza here, but the service is subpar. We ordered the rustica pizza, which i'd definitely recommend. Plenty of options for vegetarians as well. The waiter (same curly mustache waiter as others have described) was quite rude. I'm not sure if it was because my husband and I are younger or if it was race but he ignored us the majority of the night but was extremely attentive to an older Caucasian couple seated next to us. It was apparent the place was understaffed and buzzing with both take out orders and dine in patrons, so initially I had attributed the inattention to that. However, after watching the interactions with the other patrons it was pretty evident there was more to the story. It took over an hour for the pizza to come out. It's a shame since the pizza was excellent, the location is quite convenient and the restaurant interior and patio itself is lovely. Would only recommend this place for take out, or if there is a change in wait staff. read more

My husband and I chose this local eatery off of a recommendation from a coworker. We live close by, and we're hoping for a quiet date night. This small, family-owned restaurant was an absolute treat. The salads were plentiful, the pizza was sizable, and The Bolognese pasta was amazing. The portions are generous, the service is quiet and quick and the atmosphere is romantic. We did see several employees that were not wearing masks at all times which was a bit of a concern. I was disappointed to not see a Super Tuscan available by the glass and what was an option, was a bit more expensive than I was expecting. The Italian red I chose ran me $10 a glass. Host/server (Keith, after I finally asked) was not very good. We waited for several minutes before he came to our table, even tho we were the only ones in the place. He brought bread (2 pieces) for the 2 of us. No butter/olive oil/parmesan cheese accompanied (we had to ask repeatedly for more). I ordered veal marsala. Paper thin veal, & I couldn't even taste the marsala. So I switched to the Papardelle Bolanegse, which had more meat than the veal ! It's not cheap here. Pasta dishes are $28 - $32. My friends and I went here for a celebratory dinner and all enjoyed the meal! We ordered calamari, two small pizzas and a pasta. I think for three people on the smaller side, an appetizer and one small pizza would be the perfect serving amount, the pizzas are huge! The waiters are a little difficult to catch at times, so a good idea might be to come at a time when there are less customers. Calamari: comes with marina sauce, lightly breaded and tender Rustica pizza: Delicious! We ordered it with some sausage that I was expecting to be the lumps of sausage like the ones Domino's, but it was actually thin shreds that crisped at the edges, it was quite good. The crust was crunchy at the bottom, but still easy to bite into. Melanzane: a no-sauce pizza, it's the kind of pizza that you can eat and feel like you're stil being healthy. Lots of veggies, with a nice hit of flavor from the feta. Lobster pasta: very lemon-y which helped to neutralize the seafood smell. The pasta was nice and chewy and there was a generous serving of lobster. Summary: I like this place! Marottas is one of the best Italian restaurants in Cleveland; those who know it love it, for those who have not been there it is a hidden gem. Located in the Cedar Lee neighborhood in a single storefront you will find a narrow room with a tiny bar and the kitchen on one side and a single row of tables on the other side. The atmosphere is intimate with dim lighting and classic Italian decor, this is a great place for a romantic dinner. My friend and I came in on a cold Thursday night and split a Caesar salad and a large pizza, along with a nice bottle of wine which are half price on Thursdays. The salad was a large portion with a tangy dressing an crispy croutons. Sided with warm crispy Italian bread and quality olive oil for dipping a great start to the meal. Pizza is New York style; a large pie with very thin crust. For me this is near perfect pizza, the crust is crisp on the outside and a bit softer towards the middle, with a mild yeasty flavor. The sauce is flavorful, without being spicy and the cheese is perfectly melted. The ratio of sauce, cheese and crust works together perfectly, melding together so that each bite is more than then the individual ingredients. None of the ingredients overpowers any of the other ingredients resulting in a perfect harmony. The pie is expensive, but the portion is large. The rest of the menu offers great pastas and entrees. Portions are large with great flavors. Marottas is not inexpensive, but the portions are large, flavors are excellent and the atmosphere is romantic. Service is attentive and relaxed. Portions are big enough to share and it is quite a popular place for takeout pizza. If you are looking for an upscale dinner give them a try. read more

What better way to cap off 2019 and bring in the new year than a Yelp review! This place had been on my radar for quite a while, but I never pulled the trigger. So, having a taste for spaghetti, I decided to give it a whirl. Upon walking in I was greeted by the hostess and seated at a table near the front window. The interior is a dimly lit intimate setting, with a moderate sized dining area consisting of booths and tables. My server was cordial and efficient, with an friendly demeanor. After looking over the menu, I settled on the Spaghetti Puttanesca, a classic Italian dish with chili pepper and anchovies. The entree came with a complementary salad and bread. The salad was excellent, with a mix of field greens and draped in a savory dressing. As for the bread, it was fresh baked to perfection and came with an olive oil tapenade. The spaghetti arrived hot and wonderfully presented, with parsley flakes sprinkled atop. While the serving wasn't overly large, the quality of the dish more than compensated for it - wow! I think the portions are decent and priced not to break the bank. Fairly small and pedestrian wine and beer list. Service is OK....it has ranged from good to really detached. It has never been bad. Not only was my party not greeted at the door, but we were wholly ignored by at least 3 staff members within 10 feet of us for an uncomfortably long period of time. Not even acknowledged or spoken to at all. After waiting another 5 minutes we are told that the restaurant is closing early this day. Bad initial sign for an Italian/pasta/pizza restaurant. Then made us wait for more than 40 minutes for the order (it was a carry out order). When we asked for an itemized receipt, the guys just gave us a hand written order slip. "This is the best I can do for you" was his answer when we inquired again. So Marottas is one of my absolutely favorite places to eat - the food is beyond compare. Especially fond of the lugano, carbonara, lobster pasta, and veal parmagiano. HOWEVER - when I picked up my last order, I was greatly disappointed by the lack of masking and how packed the restaurant was. It's already a tiny space, and they were seating far more people that I would have expected, and as mentioned, there were absolutely no masks on the customers and variable masking with the staff. To make matters worse, the takeout orders were sitting on a table within a foot of a party of 9, all unmasked, breathing all over the orders. Like I said, the food is beyond delicious and I love this restaurant, but I can't see myself coming back here until COVID is over. 5 star food, 2-3 star situation, so 4 stars overall for now. read more

So we just moved to Cleveland from Columbus and my dad came to visit and see our new home. My dad is from NYC and is very critical of any pizza place that claims to be New York style. Well my dad loved it and said this was one of the best slices he's had outside of the East Coast. The whole family loved it and it was very fairy priced for the amount of pizza you get. Outdoor patio seating was awesome- it was enclosed and heated. We normally sit at the bar to eat, but here, it's tiny and the chairs have no backs. It took me over 3 years to get here and ever since I went, I can't stop thinking about the amazing pizza and pasta we devoured. The salads are big enough for two but nothing super special. We got the beet salad and had to search for the beets. However, the pizza and pasta are the start of the show! The pappardelle bolognese was as good as what we had in Italy! Although Marottas doesn't make their own pasta, the dish couldn't have been better- the sauce was spot on, chunky and meaty without overpowering the pasta. It was a big dish but slightly overpriced at $27 (I think)? The pizza was so delicious, from the crust to the sauce and the cheese- my mouth is salivating while thinking about it. Even the plain cheese pizza is something special. We also had a white pizza with mushrooms and spinach. The white pizza was apparently slightly burned, so they made another one, which took forever. Due to the delay, our server offered to make another small pizza for us to take home. However, that one fell 5 star food, 2-3 star service on this occasion (the pizza fell on the floor on the way out to us, then was slightly burned on the second attempt and super slow service)....but the food is worth going back for- or getting takeout! read more

Had the Traditional Pizza with pepperoni and onion. It was pretty good. The dinning area is very skinny with only about 8 tables in a row. Dark, semi romantic atmosphere. You get bread with oil to start off your meal, like a lot of Italian restaurants. The service was friendly and consistent. read more
