My girlfriend is a chicago girl and when she moved to Toronto with me, she has been missing classic Chicago meals for a long time. Portillos and Johnnys Beef, just to name a couple! After discovering Marqs, we decided to take a walk to this lovely place immediately. Unfortunately, we just missed it as it closed right when we got there but, after walking past it, the owner ran towards us to offer us fries and drinks on the house since we just missed it. Just because of this, We came back the next day! The food was delicious, to say the least. Perfectly salted crinkle cut fries with a 9 inch italian beef dunked to give that Chicago feel. We were met with a smile and left with happy tummies and a happy wallet (affordable meals, finally!) I will be coming often here, thats for sure. Thumbs up from me! read more

I randomly came across Marq's while doing Google Maps prep before a trip to Toronto, and I'm glad I did! In a city the size of Toronto, there's not a lot of truly unique places, so it's cool that Marq's is bringing this Chicago classic up to the Big Smoke. I've never been to the Windy City to have a baseline, but this was just a damn good sandwich no matter how you slice it (or dunk it)! There was tons of thinly-sliced roast beef. The meat was tender and not overcooked despite the thin cut, and the dipping added more beefy goodness. The roll was crusty and dense without being tough, and I liked that the dip (not full submersion, as with the "dunk") allowed for a mix of textures from the bread. The hot giardiniera and sweet peppers brought some crunch, heat and tartness that really make this sandwich a well-balanced (flavour-wise at least) meal. Attention! Market 707 alert!! New vendor! New vendor alert!! I ordered the combo sammie of Chicago beef/ hot dog layered in their signature soft and chewy bun, topped with the crunchy hot pepper chunks. The beef is thinly sliced and nicely seasoned, and the size of this sandwich is massive making it a challenge to finish unless you are very hungry. Great for meat lovers like me! They dip the bun in the beef jus, which seemed like a good idea, but didn't move me. Instead of having it dipped and ending up as a soggy bun by the end, ask for it on the side and dip it for each bite. Not only does the bun get soggy, the part that was dipped was the hinge of the bun. That meant the integrity of the whole thing was challenged when the hinge got unhinged. I felt there was something missing from this sandwich, and that thing was cheese. Seasoned lean beef is good, but needs something to balance the sheer proteininess of it with something gravy-ish or cheesy-ish. Topping it off with hot peppers wasn't working for me. Maybe I was just pining for one of those Philly steak units from Illstyl3 Sammies on Richmond St. Regardless, this place is worth a try so check it out and get creative with your order, as the guy was really nice to deal with and talk to. read more

Had the 6" Italian beef - thinly sliced roast beef with hot peppers on a baguette. The traditional style is dunked in beef jus, so I went for that. Had it after 2-3 mins & it was soggy, so it was probably not crusty even before dunking. Otherwise, it was good. The beef was generous & tender. It was mostly pulled, not sliced. The peppers had a pretty strong kick for peppers. Rooftop fries were good. They had Marq sauce (like Big Mac sauce). read more

One of my favourite sandwiches in the city. Super friendly staff, short wait for a sandwich made fresh and it's an absolute 10/10.

I opted for the 9" Italian Beef Sandwich. I chose to add the Hot Giardiniera on top. You also have to choose if you want your sandwich Juiced (add au jus on top), Dipped or Dunked. I decided since it was my first time to try the juiced. The sandwich is loaded with thinly sliced beef which is amazing tender and then they top it off with some spicy giardiniera. The bread I heard is from a local French bakery and it does well to hold up to the jus. The 9" is a healthy sized sandwich because they don't skimp on the filling here. The giardiniera was a perfect topping for this meal. The spicy and pickled flavour complimented the beef perfectly and the added crunch was great. I would imagine if you chose dipped or dunked you would want to immediately sit and eat your meal. They have some tables set up outside so you can enjoy your fresh sandwich. Overall it was a great meal and I didn't leave feeling bloated and over stuffed. I will definitely be back for another sandwich when I get a chance. After trying Italian Beef in Chicago this summer, I looked for a Toronto place that offered it. Found this gem which appears to be the only place that has it. Been back 4 or 5 times since. I always get it spicy and dunked. Should be eaten quickly after order, not sure how well it will hold if dipped or dunked and not eaten right away. The fries I found alright but nothing to write home about. read more

Tried the Italian Beef ($10, with Giardiniera, 9" and "dunked"), Beef n' Cheddar (Italian beef, topped with cheese sauce on a butter croissant), and the Rooftop Fries (listed as fries with: Spicy nacho cheese, Marq's Sauce, sauteed onions). I tried the fries on an earlier day, the 2 sandwiches on a later day. Italian Beef: The sandwich bread was very pillowy and superbly doughy. There was a substantial amount of meat, probably more than any meat sandwich in the downtown area for the cost of $10 (impressive!). It had the right amount of "kick" from the giardiniera (not overpowering but enough to balance the meat flavour). For $10 in the Downtown, awesome deal. Beef n' Cheddar: Very good alternative sandwich; a wide, crescent shaped croissant (also very soft), with cheese sauce (assuming same cheese sauce as used on the fries, and it was NOT as sweet as when I had it few days before when it was more sweet, so they are tweaking things for the better), and the respective meat. Very good price at $6.50 for the Downtown area. The "jus" was very impressive (can order it on the side, reccomended) and could easily be a broth or soup on its own. The Rooftop Fries was disappointing; the cheese sauce was overly sweet (sweeter than Kraft Macaroni and Cheese powder), and the fries were crinkle-cut and seemed like they came out of a plastic freezer bag. Ultimately, cannot recommend the fries, unless they make it more savoury. The sandwiches are worth a try, as there's nothing like these them in the area (or Downtown) of this caliber, at this (great) price point. read more

For years I have been searching and waiting for someone to offer a true Chicago style food destination. A few years back I found a deep dish pizza shop that came real close, say 90% of what Chicago offers and then, while scrolling through tick-tock a few weeks ago, a video about Chicago Beef appeared on my iPhone. Could it be? The next few days I anxiously reworked my calendar to find a day that I could make it before they close (I live and work in Woodbridge and their hours are limited between 12-7 most days and they close Sunday and Monday. When I finally managed the drive I eagerly bought 4 sandwiches, 1 for my copilot, 1 for me and 2 for the next day. Don't judge me, I already told you I've been waiting a long time for this kind of sandwich in Toronto. How was it? It did not disappoint. The beef was tasty, the gravy was on point, the dressings were perfectly reminiscent of the Windy City beef sandwiches I've been missing. Over all a solid 98%. Why not a perfect 100? The bun, it was close (still very delicious) but a very slightly different texture than Chicago. Don't let that hold you back, if you've ever had a Chicago Beef or if it's your first time you need to go here and get your sandwich crave filled. I will absolutely return. Edit-I did return last Saturday, raced across the city to get there before closing and they closed early?? Broke my heart, so I tried the grilled cheese shop next door and it was horrible. Wow finally got the chance to try this place. Got the sausage with roast beef . Let me tell ya. It's delicious . I recommend this place to anyone who loves meat . The sausage has a nice flavour the roast beef slow cooked. Yum yum . The owner is friendly real cool cat. If your near Dundas and Bathurst give it a try , I don't think you'll regret it. This family has something here , different . It's tasty and I did forget that they dip it in a jeu, ok beef sauce, very nice. Great experience will be back !! read more

Got the 6-inch italian beef with hot peppers - which were definitely hot! Next time I'd try a mix of the hot and sweet. I forget the exact term for how I ordered it - not dunked but with some juice on the beef. Probably sacrilege to Chicagoans but the bread still got pretty moist. Nice group of picnic tables nearby to sit at though the wasps were very interested in our food, so I'd recommend taking it to go! Service was friendly and price was not exorbitant, which you sometimes get at these kind of places. read more
