Whenever I'm in the cape, I always try to go here at least once. I always have a great experience. I go with the early birds for dinner to miss the dinner rush. The staff is always very friendly, food and drinks are always delicious. I love their bread they give out, it has a 3 different types. I can't wait to go back to the cape to go here! It's deff a great place to go for the family, they have a pretty view of the canal. It does get very busy around dinner and they do have valet parking. I have never been for lunch. Let me begin by saying that given the prices we are now paying to eat in restaurants, I have certain expectations about the quality and the service levels that I will receive. I've gotten pretty picky. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Went yesterday for lunch, and I was pretty disappointed. I had potato leek soup and it was brown in color. Who expects a potato soup to be brown? Did you maybe use beef stock? To me that doesn't seem cool. It was pretty tasteless. And full of salt. It was like a beef stock. With a little cream in it. The dinner menu is the same as the lunch menu. I would prefer to have some lighter fare. For instance, quiche and a salad, more salad selection. Also if the dinner menu and the lunch menu are the same and they are the same price why shouldn't I get rolls and muffins with the lunch menu? To say that they're not available till 5 PM? I don't get it. If the baker is on during the day, make some muffins the Day before, and put them aside for the next day. At any rate, service was OK, nothing special. I always love the view and the restaurant itself. However, at this point, it's about the food too and the food is just not cutting it for me here right now. PS. I absolutely hate those french fries with that coating on it. That's something that you get it like a basic restaurant that uses frozen food? When I get french fries I want to taste the potato, not some sort of coating. never asked if I wanted a refill on my iced tea. I think twice before inviting people here again. read more

We have a favorites list of restaurants that we go to down the Cape, but try new ones to work into the rotation. I've wanted to try Marshside for a few years but won't be adding it to the list. This is a prime example of how not to treat customers: A few weeks ago, I called them at 7:45 and asked when they close. Since it wasn't prime season yet, I knew it would be earlier than what's on their website or Yelp. I was told the kitchen closes around 8:30, so try to get there before that. We head over and get there around 8:15 - only to find that the door is locked. Honestly, I've never found a restaurant locked while they're still customers there!! No one comes to the door for at least 5 minutes, until finally some customers leave. We get in and the hostess says the kitchen is closed (it's 8:20). My wife nicely tells her that we called ahead, but she gets nowhere with her. The hostess tells her of some horrible places nearby that might be open. Though the hostess seemed pleasant about it - this is NOT the way you treat customers! In addition to losing our business that night -- I was also looking for a place on the Cape to have a large work function in early Fall. Needless to say, Marshside won't be getting the thousands I'll be spending on it. read more

Booorrrriiinnnng! The marshside really frustrates me for dinner. Great location, great view, really nice in side but... the menu is boring. I have ordered various items of the menu, most recently the bake stuffed haddock and the ribs. They are both so bland and there is no love or TLC with the preparation. I am betting most if not all of their side dishes are frozen and not fresh. Create some exciting options or specials and my star rating will increase. We started going to the original Marshside when it first opened, as it was pretty much the only family-style dining spot in East Dennis, and always enjoyed the New England homestyle dinners there. Having the seasonal bluefish and the baked scallops was always a highlight of visiting my Grandparents, who were natives. The new Marshside is, frankly, a completely different restaurant in more ways than one, and really shouldn't be compared to the old place apples to oranges (or pot roast to scrod, as it were). The old crowded but homey restaurant building is now a fairly wonderful sort of wooden arena, with multiples levels to accent the views of the marsh. There's no longer real outdoor seating -- perhaps to avoid sullying the views of the indoor diners, but also probably to keep the trash from blowing into the marsh -- and the parking lot is paved. More to the point at hand, while retaining the New England traditional menu, the new Marshside has upscaled considerably. The menu is really on the $$$ side now - if you have a drink, an appetizer, and an entrée, you're looking at $30 a head before dessert (the main courses are hovering in the low $20s now) for dinner. As far as execution: really wonderful. I'd been a number of times since the re-opening, with my parents, but took Mrs. The Crank with me on our last visit and got to watch her take the whole thing in afresh. Service was a strangely wonderful mix of "hiya hon" I remembered from the old days that was also respectful and attentive like you expect from a high end restaurant, and the food was executed flawlessly. Some of the seafood dishes are a little too "sauced up" but they still do difficult things (like getting scallops just right) well, and you can still get the fish and chips to go with your $10 martinis. The house specialty these days I'd say is the Lobster Mac and Cheese, which has very large pieces of Lobster in it, a very thoughtful cheese mix, and is not at all what you might think. It's a successful hybrid of New England comfort food with high end ingredients. Any of the comfort food favorites are great: the meat loaf, penne, or pot roast, etc. They do fried seafood well, without over breading or over oiling the fish, and the fresh market fish, while usually pricey, have rarely disappointed me. Please don't bother with the shrimp, which you can get anywhere, go with something more regional, like the cod or my all-time favorite, the baked scallops, or, when available, the absolutely to die for baked bluefish. The new Marshside does have a full-service bar and a reasonable although not exceptional wine list. Good beers from a variety of sources, but I do note Naragansett is no longer available on tap 8-). Do I miss the old Marshside? Indeed, it had many charms as a down-home breakfast and lunch place. But the delicacies of keeping a place on the marsh's edge in service probably were not economically sustainable without going high end to pay for the rebuilding project, and my hat is definitely off to the owners for undertaking the project (and its attendant financial risk) and executing it so successfully. Obviously it remains to be seen how it will sustain the quality over time. I'm very tempted to bump this up to five stars, but I fear nostalgia is having a twin effect on my sense of whether or not this is a world-class joint (I'm stingy with that fifth star) and in terms of value for experience (wait times are very long in the summer months) it's not quite there. But a very solid four stars, and if you're looking for a special, relatively unique spot for dinner and don't mind the upper-endy prices, by all means this is your place. read more

I really enjoyed Marshside! By the looks of the dining room and waiting area, this place is well liked in the area and all for good reason. First of all, free valet? Sweet! The porch is a super cute spot to wait for a table. We didn't have to wait (lucky) but as we were leaving, we saw families and couples sipping wine while waiting and it seemed like such a cute, nice spot to do that. We had a group of six, and we lucked out with a table sort of behind the bar along the windows. What a view! It is such a lovely area and a very pretty view. I very much enjoyed also that we had our own little area, so while it was louder in the main part of the restaurant, we could all hear each other, which was nice. I started off with the clam chowder. It was quite tasty with a good amount of clam and it also wasn't overly creamy which I personally like. I then had the lobster roll. I just can't get enough of the lobster when I'm in the Cape (yes, lobster for lunch that day, too!), and this one was delicious. Big, meaty pieces of lobster, not overly dressed and perfectly sweet and tasty. I skipped dessert as I was totally stuffed, but by the looks of their offerings, dessert must be good as well. The service was really friendly and efficient, but they didn't rush us at all and didn't seem concerned that we were just chatting away and not paying attention to the menu. Definitely worth a visit. I don't know exactly how prices stack up as my sandwich was on the lower end of the price range, but it seemed to skew a bit pricey. Quality is definitely there, though, and I don't think it was overwhelmingly expensive. Good drink list as well to round out the menu. I haven't been to the Marshside since it has been redone and I am sorry it has taken me so long to go! I was prepared for a wait, as anyone should be in the middle of summer. However, with a beautiful patio to sit on while you wait and with a cocktail waitress getting drinks as the sun was setting, it was very enjoyable. We waited an hour and got sat in the main dining room, closer to the bar. The inside was absolutely beautiful and although I did not have a view of the marsh the other people in my party did and the entire ambiance of the place was awesome. We had an awesome server, I didn't get her name though. She was friendly and knowledgeable and never forgot anything, and everything we asked for was brought to us promptly. I was surprised with this seeing as it was busy. I had a stuffed quahog which was definitely home made and definitely delicious! Not very spicy which I like. You could taste the fresh clams, more so than I have ever tasted down here. I also had a bite of my friend's lobster stew which is bisque with chunks of lobster in it and the bisque was the best I have had in a while. Had the chicken parm for dinner which was also great. The bread before the meal may be what keeps us coming back, it was amazing! At the end of the meal we all said we were not expecting everything to be as amazing as it was. We each had a glass or two of wine and/or martinis and drinks were reasonably priced. Food was a little more than average priced but for the quality of food we received we didn't mind paying extra. I told my family when I got home that the prices were exactly like the competitor's down the street but the food, ambiance, and service was a thousand times better. I don't understand these negative reviews. We almost didn't try it and are so glad we did. It was shoulder season for lunch and the place was busy but no lines. The building is absolutely stunning. Open rafter ceiling with beautiful views of the marsh. We scored a window table on a sunny day - a good start. Service was very good, but formal, not chatty. Food came out in short order. First off, great presentation. The Cobb salad, beet salad and chicken puff pastry looked like pictures from magazines. I wish I had taken a picture of the oysters. My wife (who doesn't like them) said they were beautiful. The Cobb was as good as it gets, moist chicken, fresh ingredients, crunchy meaty bacon bits and homemade blue cheese dressing. The beet salad was delightful and the chicken puff pastry was very tasty. The oysters on half shell not only loked good, were the best I have had all year. Perfectly shucked, lots of liquor - scrumptious. I felt like I could only give 4 stars because we went for lunch not dinner. We are planning on a return trip for dinner. We were visiting the Cape and my cousin recommended the Marshside. Interesting place. Lots of windows and lots of natural light. The restaurant has lower and upper level. Everyone gets a good view. Excellent service! My cousin recommended the Lobster Macaroni & Cheese. Cellentani pasta and fresh lobster meat tossed with a creamy cheese sauce. The lobster was mostly claw meat but still very good. I also had the New England Clam Chowder. Very creamy but could use more clams and potatoes. My wife had the Chicken Puff Pie. Roasted chicken, carrots, celery and onions baked in a homemade chicken sauce served in a puff pastry. It was very good. The New Zealand Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc was excellent. A new favorite Sauvignon Blanc. New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc's have a grapefruit note we like. Our waiter checked and told us we could get it at a liquor store nearby. It was Northside Liquors about a 1/4 mile away. It was only $8.99. We purchased 7 bottles. I am not sure how available it is in Central NY. read more

We try to visit places a few times before writing a review so that we are experiencing a good sampling of the food and service of a place. However, as we won't be back here, one visit is all this is based upon. It's a lovely, clean restaurant, with beautiful landscaping, view, and interior. The vinyl bench of the seat I had was torn away exposing a large area of white padding, but other than that - and plaster peeling off a patch in the women's restroom ceiling - it was a nice, tidy place. Our server, when we finally met, was very pleasant and polite. However, we waited a long time before seeing her. I think she must have had responsibilities in the kitchen too perhaps - ? The two other servers were also absent from the floor for a long time. I had a burger on a gluten free bun - love that they can do that. However, bun aside, it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. It was 100% dry, and beyond well-done. If the cook is squishing the burgers as they cook, then that would be a reason for the dry as dust burger. The fries were fine, but not hot. I didn't send the burger back nor say anything, 'cause having waited so VERY long for our food, I didn't want to prolong our stay any longer. Also, our server wasn't around much. My husband's meat loaf dish was bland and a bit dry too. He like the broccoli and the mashed potatoes were fine, but also on the bland side. His dish was hot though - a plus. The wait for our food was excruciatingly long. A table that ordered about 5 minutes before us was done with their meals before ours arrived. A beautiful place, but we won't return. read more

My sister and her friend raved about this place, so we went on 12/28 for lunch. We exchanged Christmas in our booth gifts briefly. After waiting a 1/2 hour, I waved for our server, who was affronted by my waving for him. He noticed that we exchanged gifts and was prepared to wait for us. This set the tone for lunch. We, repeatedly called "Miss" by the annoyed waiter at the beginning of and the end of and within EVERY sentence, ordered soup, crab cakes and a spinach salad. The chowder was just sublime! My sister's order of the butternut squash soup she loved. I ordered the spinach salad, and maybe because I asked for no tomatoes, no bacon, and a different dressing, got a mess. Who knows? My sister and her friend ate their crab cakes. I stared at a gigantic bowl of what I assume to be an entire bag of Stop and Shop uncleaned, untrimmed baby spinach, topped by unevenly chopped red onion. There was a hard-boiled egg, quartered, the only thing edible. There were mushrooms, untrimmed, unbrushed, cut thickly. Oh, just YUM. And -- since the bowl was overflowing with this mess, how could anyone "toss" this with the blue cheese dressing on the side? Here's the best part: the incredibly annoyed waiter (male) passed by our table to take up the plates -- but never to ask if things were ok. It was only at the end of our meal that he asked if everything was "OK," and then I told him that the salad was unwashed, untrimmed, inedible. He actually asked me what I expected when ordering a spinach salad. And, to repeat: Here's me: untrimmed baby spinach, topped by unevenly chopped red onion. There was a hard-boiled egg, quartered, the only thing edible. There were mushrooms, untrimmed, unbrushed, cut thickly. After some argument with this waitperson, he did take the charge off my bill. Oh, f*ucking yay. Went out of there hungry: I had a small bowl of soup, a quarter of hard-boiled egg and a few spinach leafs, all because a waiter had a bug up his ass. Never again. Lousy takeout, sorry to say. We expected a lot more than we got. We got four orders, and three were not good, to say the least. Both Fish and Chip orders had small pieces of fish, considering the price, and the fries were sub-McDonald's quality-chewy and not hot (although we picked up the order at the stated time and ate shortly after). The Chicken Francese had only a little sauce on the pasta and little pasta to boot, although the chicken was okay. The only good order we had was a Marshside burger, but the fries were as stated above. So, we would say do not get take out from the Marshside (of course, to be fair, it could have been a bad night, as the restaurant was very busy). I so want to love this restaurant, but after our experience this week, will never go back. Busy holiday week so were patient and waited for 30 minutes or so for a table...no problem. Waitress informs us when we sit down that they are out of bread. (I thought that was one of their selling points.) Appetizers came after a bit of a wait and thankfully they were really good. Then an hour and a half later and about 3 visits from our apologetic waitress we were finally served our dinners. She apologized for the kitchen. 3 out of 5 dinners were good. Well-done burger and medium burger were both raw. My husband went home and ordered a pizza. How about you take reservations so you can manage the flow of your restaurant and what the kitchen can handle? Who is running the kitchen?! Will never visit again. read more

Best bread basket on Cape Cod! The Marshside is a beautiful building and overlooks the marsh and Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis. All of the tables have a great view. They don't take reservations and there is usually a wait, but they make the wait less painful in a lot of ways. They have areas inside and outside to sit until your table is ready and a cocktail waitress comes around to take drink orders. They also often put out cheese & crackers. For kids they offer toys to play with, including American Girl dolls. Their menu has a variety of local and traditional options: chicken parm, burgers, seafood. This place is a hit or miss and this is my final time going here due to my poor experiences over time. Tonight, I ordered take out (4 meals total) which was placed over the phone. The host/hostess took my order and credit card info and read back both to me. We were told it would be about 20-30 mins. We got there slightly early (~7 mins early), but still waited an additional 20 mins. The valet boy went in to get our order 3 separate times and the food was still not ready. After the 4th time, they told me I did not pay. I went in to see what was happening. I was bumped into by a waitress and was given attitude as if I was the one who bumped into her. Additionally, once we took out our food at home, I noticed they never entered my side salad on the slip or gave me in the order (I was not charged for it, but the person who took my order read it back to me and it was included). I ordered a lobster roll with sweet potato fries which was $30. The lobster meat was so minuscule it was comical and had so much mayo, it was disgusting. The coleslaw that came with it was warm and had absolutely no taste. The sweet potato fries were not flavorful and were very soggy. I'm never one to complain, but overall, this place is completely overrated and the service is terrible. I won't be going back and I'd much rather take my business elsewhere where I'm valued as a customer and the money is worth the meal! read more

We have been regulars here for a number of years. Such a great location especially if bringing family or friends. The views are great and the service is always friendly and welcoming. With Covid they were one of the only decent and what we perceived as clean and safe locations around. So we overlook some issues with food quality that we noted over the last year. Sad to learn that they are closing as of this week (Dec 13) to take a winter break. But they are planning to reopen in the Spring. Covid has been so hard for our local businesses. This place is exceptional!!!! My go to dish is the Greek pasta with chicken, kalamata olives, fresh basil and tomato, sautéed with garlic and onion served over pasta with feta cheese or you can get shrimp. Also, eggplant rollatini with mozzarella, pesto and sauce, can have as an appetizer or I've had as a meal since it is quite heavy. The restaurant is beautiful inside with the large windows for an incredible view of the marsh. It does tend to get very busy at night and you may have to wait but I feel like we have never had to wait as long as they say, they are very fast! I had high hopes for dinner at Marshside. My sister lives right around the corner and, although she wouldn't be able to join us, highly recommended this restaurant. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and quoted us a 30 min wait. My companion and I waited for 40 min on the steps outside because all the patio seats were occupied. That was not a problem. We were seated but our waitress was very abrupt and unfriendly. I ordered the clam plate with sweet potato fries. It was delicious! My companion had Scallops Nantucket.....What a disappointment! They were flavorless and covered with a dried up topping made of cheese that was melted but had hardened. You could pick it up in one sheet. It didn't stick to the scallops when she tried to eat them. There was so sauce or seasoning. Dessert was also disappointing. The banana cream pie tasted like it was made from boxed banana pudding. It wasn't chilled and it looked like someone ran over it. My companion's brownie sundae was lame. The brownie was stale and dry and the neither the brownie or hot fudge was even warm. The peppermint ice cream was its only saving grace. We ended with coffee which was actually very good but decided that this would be our first and last visit to Marshside. read more

I ordered the Chicken Francese, which is tender chicken medallions pan-seared in a delicate lemon butter sauce served with pasta . This has been my third year going to Marshside Restaurant when I take my annual trip to the Cape. I absolutely love it. The staff has always been fantastic, food is great, and the drinks are strong. The atmosphere is very relaxing and you can't beat the view right on the marsh as the sun sets. This time around my meal was great. It sounds just as good as it tastes. My only critique would be that I really didn't taste much lemon in the dish. I used the lemon that was part of the garnish to squeeze some juice over my chicken. It was more so buttery, which I still loved just as much. I ate the whole plate. Cant wait to return next year and try the Chicken Pot Puffs! read more

We have eaten here many times and enjoyed our experience, but today our experience was less than stellar. My husband and I arrived around 2pm so it wasn't busy in the dining room. Our waiter, young, dark hair with a beard, was not very attentive at all. After he took our drink order and delivered our drinks he disappeared for about 15 minutes. The shrimp cocktail, of which there 5 small shrimp, was fine, but so little for $10.95. We ordered fish tacos and chicken francaise. They were both fine, not bad and not great. For dessert we ordered a brownie sundae and hot chocolate pudding. The pudding was my favorite part of the meal. We each had two cocktails. The total was $121.66 before tip. Same stupid menu - they must all get to together and agree on what junk they will serve. Known for their onion rings, thin, less breading but plenty of grease with little onion flavor. At least the oil did not taste old. If you go, you can pick through the menu and good luck to you. Service is fine, friendly. "Is everything excellent?" I was asked. Yikes, excellent? hardly. Really nice views. Good food. A fun to have dinner. Prices are really reasonable compared to similar restaurants in the area.
