Our trip to the Cape wouldn't have been complete without stopping to try the summer shanty. I was recommended to stop here by some friends so of course we did. While trying things on the menu I was happy to pick the shrimp tacos. They were perfectly cooked with pico, cotija cheese, and siracha aioli. The crust on the batter was flaky and light. Not a heavy batter and it didn't overpower the flavor of the shrimp. The shrimp tacos are not gluten free and they have a minimal amount of gluten-free options available. Most of their sandwiches have a gluten-free roll available for an extra two dollars. If you have a severe gluten allergy/ celiac disease, I probably would not risk most of the menu items. Thankfully, we were also able to order a rice bowl with plain swordfish and had no allergy related side effects afterwards. The kids menu is also great for options for littles while dining here. The view is nice, crowded if you're seated outdoors but the staff is awesome which makes it feel more like you're going to a friends house to eat. I'd come here again for drinks on the patio as their drink menu looked so good. A great stop for an outdoor lunch or quick stop with friends. read more

Arrived on Sunday as a party of 7. Was given the option of 45 minute wait or sat outside. We opted for outdoor seating. Waiter came over immediately for drinks and they arrived quickly. Quickly went downhill. Once food orders were put in , it began to rain. At no point were we offered to move to the covered patio , food to go, or umbrellas to be put up. We received only 3 of the 7 entrees. Then they arrived in 10 minute intervals after that. One person of our party never received their food , waited over 45 minutes, sitting in the rain. Said it was coming over and over and never came. Manager said nothing could be done. They " comped " the missing meal, but the meal was never received until we physically went inside to get it. Manager said she had to control over an additional discount said it was a "owner decision". Highly disappointed. read more

That being said, this is definitely more of a social/ drinking establishment. Lots of younger folks more so than a family spot. Everything was served in paper/ plastic, which was tough to hold onto with the constant breeze from the ocean. Our family came to visit and we had gone to Cuffy's before looking for seafood options. We found this location on google and it had great reviews. We came for à late lunch. I went to Summer Shanty on the 4th so it was probably the most busy it'll ever be with about an hour wait for 2. Thankfully they let you order drinks at the bar and walk around the area until your table is ready. The drinks here were pretty good and reasonably priced. Once our table was ready (at exactly an hour) we ordered clam strip and scallop platter, clam chowder, and the tuna nachos. The tuna nachos were incredible and I loved the ginger sauce on them. The fish tasted very fresh. Clam chowder was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The clam strips and scallops were great too. Service isn't very friendly it's more them trying to get people in and out as fast as possible. I typically don't visit this area of the Cape that much so I probably wouldn't come all the way back to eat here, but if you're in the area I recommend this spot. read more

We had 2 toddlers and 3 adults, and had just arrived in town exhausted and starving on one of the hottest days of the last year.I politely asked if we could eat on the porch, but the waitress said no. The place was packed when we arrived around 6pm just before sunset and we came for the happy hour oysters! We put our name down but were told the wait would be almost 2 hours. However, the really nice lady taking the names was so kind and told us a table inside opened up if we didn't mind since we didn't really care about having to sit outdoors, so we got seated after 10 minutes. The oysters were so fresh, wish we ordered more before their happy hour ended at 7pm. Shrimps were so good, fresh, and had a great texture to it. Not rubbery at all. Had to get lobster rolls of course. They had so much meat and was so refreshing. Husband got the fish sandwich which was also really good as well as the fish n chips! The views were also stunning, took a little stroll right by the marina and took pics at sunset. Definitely coming back! read more

Came here on the last night of our Cape Cod vacation for our first experience with the famous lobster roll. We got the Jumbo lobster roll, clam chowder and fried calamari and it was the perfect amount for two people! The lobster was piled high on the bun and the chowder came out piping hot! Really glad we picked this place for our first east coast experience! Staff were super friendly and the server gave us free coozies with our drinks! The mudslide was so good! We were looking for a place to bring our dogs AND grab some lunch. This was one of the dog friendly places in the area. Parking was a little bit of a bitch but it's worth dealing with for the really cool location of this spot, it's right on a marina so the views are really unique. If you are as easily distracted as I am, you will notice the boats coming and going. I had no idea it was possible to park a boat literally like you would park a car. Cool stuff. I digress. If you have a dog, you can only sit at the tables with the adirondack chairs on the dress spank next to the marina which, imo, provides the best view in the house but does require some sunscreen as you are directly under the baking sun. Our server was fantastic. Definitely one of the better servers that sticks out in my memory of recent dining experiences. She was VERY nice and really accommodating to my dietary preferences. That brings me to my next point. They have put in literally zero effort in accommodating anyone that doesn't eat meat or seafood. There may be one salad on the menu that doesn't have either. I was going to order that salad but GF brought my attention to the possibility of ordering the chicken BLT (grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and bourbon bbq sauce) without the meat. Even to me, this sounded absolutely absurd. There was no harm in asking, she reminded me and without the meat it was essentially a grilled cheese with lettuce and tomato. If the waitress wasn't so nice I probably would've been too chicken shit to ask but she did look at me like I had ten heads when I asked. She didn't think so BUT offered to ask the kitchen for me. Not only did she ask but she was also able to get me a reduction in price! Really, really exceptional service. GF ordered the tuna nachos to start which are really unique. I'm a WHORE for nachos so I've had pretty much any (vegetarian) variation you can imagine and I've never heard of anything like this: wonton chips, soy sauce, pico de gallo, wasabi mayo and tuna. Who knew this place was also offering asian mexican fusion? I tried a few chips not touched by tuna juice and they were phenomenal. For her main, GF ordered the lobster roll which was provided with more sides than I was expecting. She says, "it was very good". Unfortunately, when mine came I was disappointed. I was grateful they made the attempt but they totally omitted the cheese so I just had a bun with lettuce and tomato. I literally ordered "without the chicken or bacon" so I don't know why the cheese was omitted. Another thing I absolutely must mention. The drinks are delicious. I made it easy and ordered the white sangria which was on the sweeter side but served up tropical vibes that paired well with the nautical view. GF ordered the frozen blueberry lemonade which wasn't exactly frozen but that could be because literally nothing frozen would survive in that heat. When asked if she liked it she says, "Yes." A woman of few words. This place has A LOT to offer and really is a great place, I'm just frustrated by the lack of vegetarian options. If you eat meat and/or seafood, you'll enjoy yourself. If you have any friends or family members you want to eat with, you'll be SOL. It's 2023. Let's get with the program. read more

We came here as a family of four with a 5 and 7 year old and had a really great experience! The hostess was amazing, and so accommodating to our kiddos. She also helped us take the perfect sunset pic, by coming in to get us when it was a good time! Our waitress was also very accommodating to our son who is a picky eater. We ate inside which was a cute, casual and cozy vibe, but this place is really magical because of its views. My kids loveddd being able to take walks on the dock and check out all the cool boats right outside. We ordered the shrimp tacos and the crab cake. We arrived at 6:00 and waited for a table. We were able to get drinks at the bar and enjoy the outdoors next to the river in Adirondack Chairs. Once we were seated on the porch with the 55 min wait, we had our server take our next drink order, apps and entrees. It took almost about 40 min for the apps and close to 60 plus min for our meals. We went for Tuesday's raw bar night & expected to wait for a table for 2. Luckily we got 2 (plastic chairs) seats, small table and Julia immediately greeted & served us refreshments & apps. Maggie's blueberry lemonade is quite delicious, topped with 3 is the sweetest blueberries we ever tasted. The $1.50 oysters were colossal, icy cold & scrumptious. About an hour wait & after enjoying our beginnings we were seated on the porch, what an amazing sunset & view, we were happy Julia continued to be our server, she's very friendly and attentive, excellent service. He ordered the clam strip platter with fries and coleslaw, he said it's the best clam platter he's had. I chose the grilled swordfish topped with tomatoes, scallions with cucumber red onion salad and rice that had corn in it, yummo. We tried the Shanty Colada and a Mudslide--both were delicious! For food, we went with appetizers: the quahog and a cup of chowdah. Both were fresh and flavorful. What a great spot. We were looking for a nearby place that we call in a pick up order for a fresh lobster roll. Summer Shanty delivered. The Best of Cape Cod dinner is amazing: lobster roll, clam chowder, slaw, and fries (which you have to ask for). So much food for what you typically pay for a lobster roll so I thought it was good value The chowder was well seasoned and lots of clams and potatoes. Not the water down stuff you get at some places. Coleslaw was sweet and vinegary. Not the mayo based kind you normally get. I like this version a lot. The lobster roll was loaded. Though technically a small portion, it was plenty. Lobster was fresh and the bun was nice and toasted. Also tried the clam strips and they were great. Not greasy like it is at a lot of places. There was lots of outdoor seating by the water and plenty of parking. The view of the boats and water was lovely. We had intended to go to a more crowded, no reservations place for a large party but with a large group(13 w/ half being kids) we did some looking around and came across Summer Shanty. The place is by the water and seating was outside. The waitstaff were very accommodating and provided prompt service. We got the following: Clam Chowder - was so good that my son who doesn't usually eat seafood was gobbling up half! Lobster Roll - dressed with just enough mayo but still had enough fresh flavor Fried combo plate - we picked whole belly clams and scallops. It came with fries and slaw. The slaw was more of a vinegary type which I liked more so than a mayo based one. Everything tasted fresh and the fried plate was flavorful and crispy. We tried to make a reservation but they don't take them unless the party is at least 10 people. Our party consisted of 9 adults. We had to split up between 2 tables. Why couldn't we slide the tables together? NOT ALLOWED. Ordered appetizers. We wanted 3 orders of steamers. SOLD OUT! What? How can a restaurant that has such a short window of opportunity be out of anything? Unacceptable. There are 3 fish markets in a 10 mile radius. If it was my place, I would've chased down a product wherever I needed to. Our bill was $500. We ate off paper plates and plastic dinnerware. None of us had full meals. After a longggggg drive into Cape Cod, we stopped at Summer Shanty before even going to our house. I seriously loved every bit of our time here! We had to wait for a table but that just meant kicking back in big adirondack chairs with some great Summer cocktails. They are right on the marina so vibes were good and I was happy as a clam. I was over the moon thrilled to see how spaced out all of the tables and chairs were from one another and felt totally comfortable. They have arrows on the floor and most patrons I saw were abiding by them as well as wearing masks when moving around. Our waitresses were all really friendly and kind as well. After drinks, we got a table and got a lot of very fried food. Their menu is basically a ton of fried food. We started with a blooming onion and fried calamari as appetizers and I had a fish sandwich for lunch. It was way too much food but all very tasty! The calamari was crispy and who doesn't love a blooming onion?? The fish sandwiches came with this really delicious coleslaw that I wish I couldn't bought a pint of. I would have loved to have made it back here for more drinks on the adirondack chairs but a week in Cape Cod goes by way quicker than you think. We discovered Summer Shanty last year on a month's long visit to the Cape. The owner of a cute cottage that we rented on High Bank Road told us about Summer Shanty. We ate there several times last year. And we had our first meal there this week. Always crowded, but always friendly. My favorites are the wonderful fried scallops. Although this time, I had a combo platter with fried fish. The Cole slaw is a little different from most places, but very refreshing. As I cannot drink alcohol, the Shanty's Frozen Lemonade cannot be beat on a hot day. Now that we have become Washed Ashores, Summer Shanty will be one of our favorite regulars. read more
