I dined at the Masrshide on 5/29 with my 4 friends. We came to the Cape for Memorial Day weekend and saw that this restaurant was popular and had god reviews. Immediately when we got to the restaurant, we were greeted very odd, and told that there was going to be a wait for a table because it needed to be cleaned. We waited at the bar and got some drinks, then 20 minutes after we finally were sat. The restaurant was NOT busy at all. When we sat, no one came over to greet us for about 20 minutes until one of my friends got up and went inside to tell the host. When the server came over, he was extremely rude and said that "he guesses we are his table" and that he just thought we were lounging there. I don't know what was going through his head because it doesn't seem like the Marshside is the restaurant to lounge at. He did not ask us once if we needed anything. He did not bring water, he blamed his slow service on everyone else. Anytime he came over, he did not clear the table from the dirty plates, to the empty glasses. We then went inside to talk to a manager and they were very understanding, and told us they would take care of our bill. The server I think his name is Clay, came over and said "looks like you guys get to eat for free". This was the last straw. We had to repeatedly ask him for drinks, food, silverware, basically we were doing his job. Me and my friends have all been in the service industry for almost 8 years. I have never experienced such a bad time at a restaurant, and such terrible service. Not to mention the food was bland. I will never return and will never recommend this place. HEADLINE: WOW, it's been a while since I've been in here and the remodel is breathtaking ... the food and service are just ahhight ... but, sadly, it just seems to be missing its former warmth and soul. Back up on the Cape after several years for a long weekend with brothers and Mom pre-celebrating her 80th birthday and we decided to stop in here for a quick cocktail and some apps during an early afternoon of beach gazing, gull watching, and house spotting all around the backwater environs along 6A. Now we all remember Marshside as a quaint, cozy, jammed-to-the-gills home-made breakfast joint years back. Well, lemme tell ya', that's all dramatically changed with the massive reconstruction / remodel this place has obviously gone through. Everything in terms of finish and materials is absolutely first class and stunningly appealing to the eye. Stone flooring, wainscoting, windows, lighting, wood accents, all world class ... almost to the point of it begging to be the star of the show ... As it turns out, it was the star of the show ... not the food, the bar, nor the service. We arrived around 3:00 PM in the afternoon this past Friday and the place was deserted. Looking inside from the reception area we noticed that the best table in the house (you know, the one all the way in the back on the back left corner facing the inlet and marsh) was available ... as was practically every other table in the place ... and we asked to be seated there. Our hostess appeared a little annoyed that we would not take a table already set up and serviced, but agreed ... offering us to sit down in the waiting area by the front door until it was ready. Almost 20 minutes later we get the Papal Decree issued that we can go sit down. Why it took twenty minutes to put five place settings down is beyond me ... but, whatevah. Our waitress appears to be a seasoned professional versus school kids on their summer break so we expected pretty good service versus the horror stories relayed herein. Having said that, she was visibly dismayed that we would only be ordering drinks and apps. We around the table put in orders for beers / lemonade / chowdahs / seafood stews / o-rings. Pints were quickly served ... Mom's lemonade took a few more minutes to appear. Food arrived in about 15 minutes ... but at this point, we were just as happy sucking down some suds, engaged in conversation and watching the inlet briskly disgorge itself as the tide approached low and the blue herons dive-bombed everything in sight. My New England Clam Chowdah ... just OK ... passable ... thin on the cream broth but not, thankfully, the wallpaper paste you get at some joints. Decent amount of clams but there was just something missing ... nothing to knock your socks off about, if you know what I mean. There are SO many things you can do to a chowdah to bring it to a differentiated life ... bacon, or the preferred, salt pork, sherry, paprika, tabasco, new red potatoes, shallots, a healthy dose of fresh clam broth, fresh cracked black pepper, worcestershire, Land Of Lakes real salted butter. This rendition was pretty plebeian. Bro's fish stew, on the other hand, was reported to be "very good". But he now hails from Maine ... what the hell does he know about cuisine ... ;-)) Onion rings, the one thing we all scoffed at another bro for ordering, actually became the hit of the day ... very, very nice shoestring o-rings with the onion flavor easily able to escape the breading. The effort to obtain these over time, versus the "competition", started to resemble a WWF cage match very quickly. Harpoon IPA's from the tap were cold, but didn't seem all that fresh ... I may just have to blame that on the time of day we were in and lack of turnover ... but maybe I shouldn't be so forgiving. We seemed to be rushed to have our settings cleared and upon finding out that only one round was in order, our waitress abandoned us to ... well, I don't know to do what ... there were less than a handful of patrons in the entire place. Marshside used to be a/the go-to breakfast place for us kids/young adults growing up with a vacation home on the Cape. The place was always happily jammed to the gills and it seemed as if you were being fed by a best friend's Mom back then. Apparently, they don't even serve breakfast anymore and have gone to lunch and dinners only. The new place has lost the soul of the old place ... and despite fabulous views and resplendent construction, architecture and surfaces, it is 'stillborn' versus the warm family kitchen I have in my memories. I think I'll only return to memories of the Marshside of my youth, adolescence and young adult years ... I don't think I'll return here. read more

What a great place. We drove all the way down from Marshfield on my first trip to Boston and that was a special place. I had the clam chowder and it was helluva yummy! Thick, creamy, tasty and I really wanted to lick the bowl. As an ecology, one doesn't often travel to "the marsh" - waterfront dining is at the harbor, certainly, or even overlooking the wide sea, but not usually focused on quiet inland estuaries. The Marshside Restaurant brilliantly changes this, giving us the ability to float over the landscape. The setting is beautiful and the building a perfect venue for expansive views in all directions. The generous booths line up with each window opening, and a level change allows for views from every seat in the house. The building is also perfectly assembled - no mismatched corners, the outside porch is biscuited together so there are no visible screws, even the shingles on the outside come to a well considered edge. The gracious porch on the outside hosts you while waiting for a table. The lighting is perfect - soft but bright. And even the acoustic buffering is thoughtfully done (look closely at the ceiling and you'll see the subtle fabric panels integrated into the ceiling beams - no acoustic tiles here, thank god!) The food was great! As others have noticed, the breadbasket was fantastic, and the wine glasses generous. We had the wedge salad and crab cakes, steamers and fish and chips. The food was gracious and comforting and while its not challenging or provocative food, it is simple and well made. The service was a little clumsy, but the overall ambience and comfort made for a beautiful late summer dinner and some perfect memories before we head home. read more

Called to make a reservation for my party of 10 and the hostess told me that they did not take reservations for any size parties and that everything was first come first served, so with that being said my party of 10 and I walked up to the host stand told them we'd need a table of 10 the host looked me dead in the eye and says "well, do you have a reservation" I told the 3 girls standing in front of me who had the dirtiest looks on their faces that they told me they didn't take them, all the hostess faces went blank and said "well we said that cause we don't have room for you" we asks to be put on a wait list she then rolls her eyes hands us a buzzer and says "well your going to have to wait at least 2 hours" and shooed us away. Worst hostess expierence I've ever had, they where the nastiest girls I've ever seen! I've been a host before and never would I try to lie to get out of doing my job nor be that rude to customers. Please find some kinder, more personable hosts because these high schools girls who could care less about there job aren't cutting it!!!! read more

Although the wait was long, everything from the service to the bread basket, appetizers and main course were absolutely unbelievable. The prices are extremely reasonable for such a wonderful, scenic, dining experience. The attention to detail was amazing. Complimentary valet parking and cocktail waitresses who serve you beverages while you wait! Love the view and atmosphere! Every time I come here it never gets old. The servers are always very friendly and on top of things to meet the needs of everyone at the table. Lobster Mac and cheese from here is definitely a must if this is a dish you like and their other options besides seafood have all been delish as well. I am genuinely disappointed in the experience I just had at the Marshside. I understand that during the pandemic and restaurants reopening things can be lost in the confusion, however, the blatant disrespect we received from the beginning to the end of our experience was astonishing. To begin, we were about 30 minutes early for our reservation and went up to the hostess to let them know we had arrived and to see if they had any earlier openings. The hostess refused to look at us and spoke with another one that I believe that was in training and said "they are a half our early for their reservation we are not seating them". We didn't expect to be seated early but we also didn't expect to be completely ignored by the hostess. We went back five to ten minutes before our reservation and they then seated us at a table that was so small two dinner plates could barely fit on it.. When we sat down they dressed the tables with mismatched plates and threw down our silverware. The waitress came over a few minutes after and put down two glasses of water. The water tasted like some that would come out of a refrigerator that needed a new filter. A few minutes after we were seated the waitress came over for our drink order and brought over bread. She then asked us for our drink and dinner order. At this point our table was already completely full. When the bus person brought out our appetizer, she just pushed the empty bread basket out of the way instead of taking it. For about 15 minutes our table was full if empty dishes. Our entrees came out shortly after. Our entrees were fine, however they were desperate for seasoning and our waitress could not be found. I have been to this restaurant several times in the past while visiting the cape every summer and I am thoroughly disappointed in what I saw this evening. I usually order this meal (Chicken Francese) when I am in the restaurant and it is good. I ordered this for takeout last night. It was not very good. Small amount of chicken and the pasta was too thick. There was hardly any spinach and it it was wilted. I was disappointed they did not put in a roll for $24. read more

I have eaten at the Marshside for years. I ate hear for breakfast even before the major, fantastic new building. Normally I find it ok food with good service. It can get quite busy. Tonight I ate at the bar and due to celiac disease I turned away the bread and the bar tender rolled his eyes! When I ordered the Marshside wedge with no dressing but oil and vinegar on the side he said. So you want three pieces of lettuce with tomatoes!! Really if I don't want the ranch dressing that's what I get!! Great location. Beautiful view. That's about it . read more

My husband and I have been going to The Marshside since it opened. I recommended it to my sister and her husband. Their daughter was becoming engaged (a surprise) and my sister was hosting future in-laws who had not been to the Cape. My sister called three weeks in advance to make a reservation for 10 people in their corner table and was told that they could not take the reservation until a week before the event. She called back one week before for a 7:30 reservation and was told that they could only accommodate her at 5:30. She explained how she had called a few weeks before and was told to call back. They did finally say yes to a 7:30 reservation. After the beautiful engagement on the beach, my sister's party arrived at The Marshside only to be told that they didn't have a reservation for her. They said that by mistake, they had put her in for the following week and had just seated a large party at that table! She had to wait for 25 minutes and they put her in the middle of the restaurant which was a very noisy area. The least that they could have done was to offer the party a complimentary drink or appetizer for their error but they did not. This was a very special night for my sister and her family and due to the carelessness of The Marshside staff, the night did not turn out as expected. read more

Marshside Restaurant has been around for years, but you wouldn't recognize it now. New owner took the building down and replaced it with a lovely restaurant with a gorgeous view. Sadly, everything changed: the staff (who had been there for years); the menu and the prices! We had a group of gals meet for supper. I only will comment on my dinner...awful. Waiter made several errors in our drink order; the chicken puff pastry pie was a mess. It was salty and soggy. The biggest shock was the price of a martini: $14.00! And, to make it worse, it was poorly made and not much of it. The only positive thing for all of us was the bread basket (which was served without butter pats.) So, five women (plus the husbands), makes 10 people who will find another place to eat. And there are many great ones. read more

I have loved this place for 37 years. Through it all it has remained one of the best places to eat on the cape. My kids grew up going to the little place that it once was to now this beautiful spacious restaurant with magnificent views of the marsh. Most of all it is the food and baked good that the place continues to prepare at a level above the rest. The swordfish tips call my name all the way to New Jersey. The food is fresh and prepared to perfection. The staff is one their game and it is always great to see Barbara. I highly the Marshside for a great meal with your family. Been going there every year for over a decade while on vacation, my spouse and family much much longer. Will never ever go there again, and will encourage every person I encounter the same, many great places on the Cape why bother with HORRIBLE SERVICE. Great airy, spacious and warm atmosphere, but not entirely authentic: kind of a barn vibe in a beautiful building sitting right on the marsh (as the name suggests), but I got that "wedding venue vibe," if that makes any sense. I enjoyed my dining experience here, however. I think the entree prices were a little steep, based on the type of restaurant this was, which suggests a more casual vibe, but their sandwiches were reasonable and I appreciated having the ability to order an app-sized salad as a starter for only $6 or $7. They brought us waters and a tremendously impressive basket of bread after we sat down, which placated us immediately. Also was mightily impressed by their waiting area: they actually had kids toys in the center ottoman surrounding the ample seating area. Brilliant for those with little ones- all the kids we saw were wholly occupied during their wait- genius! As for the real food, my chicken sandwich was good, as was my starter salad (half of a beet salad). I didn't order anything unique enough to proof out the quality of their food, but I was very satisfied with what they served me. Portions were hearty and the food was good. I grew up going to Marshside every summer on our family vacation. Back then, the atmosphere was simple; I distinctly remember feeling like it was a cross between the pub in my hometown and a casual, seaside family restaurant. Marshside has been remodeled since my last visit to the cape, and the food is just as delicious as I remembered -- but oh my goodness, the remodeling! I recently had an atrocious experience at the Marshside. We called for a reservation around 4:00, which we were told was entirely feasible. But first, I want to highlight the fact that we have patronized this business through the entire coronavirus pandemic. Given this reality, I would have expected to be treated with at least a little respect by the restaurant staff and manager on this occasion. Sadly, this was not the case. From the beginning of dinner, we felt rushed. The waiter tried to hurry us along on several occasions, which we looked past. However, the final straw came when we asked to see the dessert menu. The waiter said that he could not do that, because the front desk had told him to tell us that we needed to "hurry up and leave" because they had an incoming party. Understandably, we were off put because we had called ahead and made a reservation ourselves. I also found it ironic that after the waiter told us we could not see the dessert menu, we were left waiting 15 minutes before receiving the check. We expressed our grievances politely to the front desk, however they were unresponsive. The manager accused us of being "aggressive," and told us "to sit ourselves down or leave." The level of disrespect with which the manger treated us was appalling. She came to our table (after we had finally received the check) in a fit of rage, claiming that we had "made a 14 year old girl cry" (which was blatantly untrue). She then proceeded to storm away, muttering appalling language under her breath. The level of unprofessionalism that this woman demonstrated was sickening. Her harassment towards us customers should not ever be tolerated, especially after paying over $200 for dinner. If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. It would make me ecstatic to see this wretch of a manager fired, for she treated my family with blatant disrespect and ignorance. Please spend your money at other local establishments like the "Lost Dog Pub" or "Chapins," and not at a restaurant like this, which treats their customers with complete disrespect. A great pandemic-era dining experience. We are not yet ready to eat indoors, and Marshside offered several tables of outdoor dining. They also take reservations (key in busy Cape season). Plenty of parking. Hostesses were pleasant and organized. Everyone was wearing masks and adhering (as much as possible) to social distancing. Traffic flow was laid out. Server was attentive and timely with drink and dinner ordering and delivery. Food was excellent. We ordered the swordfish special (pan-seared, peach/butter sauce) and baked seafood platter (shrimp, salmon, scallops, haddock). Both were served hot and presented well. Serving size was adequate, pricing as expected for in-season Cape dining. read more

Gorgeous location overlooking the marsh with floor to ceiling glass on two sides of the restaurant. Parking was complimentary valet. We arrived without reservations around 5 and didn't have a problem getting seated ... however, an hour later the place was packed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bread baskets brought to our table were filled with a wide selection of amazing carbs. Unfortunately, this is where the glowing review ends. The food wasn't very good and for an area that thrives on seafood, it was poorly prepared. I had the salmon with squash puree -- the salmon was *dry*, totally overcooked. I could only eat half of it before giving up. The squash was chunky and stringy glop -- not appealing in either flavour or texture. Others in our group had the same problem with their entrees ... it just wasn't very good when compared to other restaurants we ate at during the week. read more

Sat at the bar on our second visit. Lucas was capable and generous with wine pours and mixed drinks. We started with the calamari, which was just slightly soggy. the last visit it was crisp and hot. Had the Baked Stuffed Quahog and it was very nice. No chewy clam bits, maybe just a little too much breading. We had the Roast beef French Dip and Pastrami reuben sandwiches. Both were tasty and filling. by chance we got here early just before 5 and there were plenty of seats. When we left after 6 the waiting line was out the door! read more

A recent visit to Marshside was an incredible disappointment. Pre-covid we would visit the establishment at least once per week and were impressed by all the elements of a great restaurant - great food, creative specials, attentive service, and prices representative of the experience. When they were able to re-open with outside dining, we went but there was no resemblance of the Marshside we knew, but we chalked that experience up to the chaos of the pandemic. Last night was the first time we were back post-pandemic. The food was great - good portions and well prepared and flavorful - well done! Unfortunately, that's where the good part of the experience ends. The bread delivered to the table was just a couple of simple rolls versus the basket of mixed breads we used to get. The menu was limited and there were no specials. Our waitress took a long time just to come by and get a drink order. She was not well trained and literally saw her a total of 3x during the entire meal - that counts the greeting and brining the check. She never took a dirty plate from the table, so by the time we finished (there are 2 of us), it looked like a family of 6 was at our table with bread dished stacked up with dinner plates, and drink glasses. Prices went through the roof (yes, it's the same everywhere but it is amazing some places go up 10-20% versus 40-50%). Overall, the value proposition is not there - they charge 4 star prices but deliver a 2 star experience. Needless to say, we will wait another year or two before trying again. Usually when restaurants start down this path they either go out of business, or self correct. I hope for the latter as I love the location. read more

Marshside Restaurant, since being remodeled looks absolutely fantastic. The interior views of the marsh and harbor are equally fantastic. The service is good and friendly. The food is very typical fare but prepared better then others of its kind. Portion size is just right. I had the Paris Melt, anything sauteed in butter and garlic sounds good to me, and it was very good. It was served with standard bagged potato chips, for a restaurant like this I would have expected homemade chips. Others in the group had the seafood and even though they live on the cape and have seafood all the time they were impressed with it. Overall we had a great experience here, the service was great, friendly, helpful, and its kid friendly. read more

Beautifully redone wow have not been in a while. Excellent lunch here wish I could have tried the stew or chowder I find it just a bit overpriced too bad. They do have a nice place but like others have said I miss the a bit of the old touches too. They used to have bird feeders out back was always fun spot to watch the birds. This is my third time to Marshside and each time the hostesses have been very rude and generally dour as if thry didnt want customers. When we got there, there was no greeting, no smile just a comment about a 20 min. wait. We were happy to wait. When our pager went off and we went to the desk, again, no eye contact or greeting. After our meal we asked about purchasing fruit bread to take home. We were told that thry didnt serve it anymore. We commented that we had just had it with our meal and it was delicious. We were told by two women st the desk that we were wrong, they didn't serve it. A manager informed them that they had brought back the bread. They ssid, oh. No apology, nothing yo us. Absolutely horrible. We asked to sit inside and were crammed in a corner with a loud crowded group of people inside an empty room. Then waited 20 minutes to get a water. All we got was fish and chips which was burned beyond recognition and took 45 minutes. The waitress (Becky) ignored us for her larger parties. I asked for the check and a box and was given an attitude since I was interrupting her day. To note: I'm a local not a tourist so I can see why people are complaining of the service on Cape Cod. First of all - drop dead beautiful views! We went for lunch and were really struck by how beautiful the building and the setting is. I had a scallop Caesar salad - which was really exceptional in two ways: the scallops were perfectly cooked and treated with respect, and the salad dressing was perfect - not that excessively "creamy" fake Caesar dressing found in most restaurants Served with crispy "something special" wedges of cheesy-cracker things - amazing. I'm not a "lady who lunches" and rarely has a lunch of this calibre - but I think it's safe to say this restaurant is a keeper. Service was spot on, also! My takeout order included three things: a kale salad with grilled chicken and a cup of clam chowder, and I requested bread and butter which the hostess said would be provided. However, there was no grilled chicken and only a half of a cup of chowder, plus no napkins or utensils were provided. And: no bread and butter. So, yes, I should have checked before I left the parking lot. However, no special attention was given to my order. When I tried to contact them through email, I received an automatic response that had nothing to do with my email requesting a refund for the cost of the missing grilled chicken. It looked like a nice restaurant by the marsh, so it was very disappointing that I didn't receive my whole order. read more

Always a delicious dish here. Salads are perfect, quiche excellent, seafood right on but not inexpensive. We all love their homemade breads made at their bakery next door, The Otherside (we were told). Wait staff is on and the restaurant is very clean. The views are of a beautiful marsh and one side has bird feeders full of birds. Out front, the gardens are full of flowers and flowering bushes, very pretty. read more

A very popular restaurant. We arrived at 5 PM as a local recommended and the lot was nearly full. The service was fast and courteous. The wait staff and kitchen clearly knew the crowds were coming. The seafood was fresh and tasty. The deserts were delicious. The restaurant itself is in a new building and has wonderful views of the marshes. By 6 PM valets were moving around cars like crazy to accommodate the new arrivals and there were 20 people waiting for tables. You have been warned, don't arrive late and complain about the wait. After driving past Marshside many times we finally took visiting family last night. We were told that we would have to wait 90 minutes for a table for 7, but were seated in less than 1/2 that time. The waiting area is very comfortable and there are servers to take drink orders with complimentary cheese and crackers. While it took a while to get our order the lovely waitress keep the bread basket full. We will return. read more

Food quality is alright, better than bar food on Cape. A most truly is their soups. The view is stunning. We waited for 20 minutes for lunch. Not sure if that's worth it though. read more

Marshside is a beautiful restaurant with lovely views and I'm puzzled with the excellent reviews I've read. I've been dining there for years, going back to the original Marshside and have yet to have an excellent meal. As a local I have the opportunity to visit there often and although I've tried nearly every item on the menu, none has been excellent. I will say that the bread basket is excellent, but not the entrees. Last night I ordered the baked stuffed haddock with rice and the meal was typically disappointing. The haddock was lathered with a flavorless, gooey lobster sauce and the rice was hard as if it had been precooked and warmed. The atmosphere at Marshside is lovely: in winter the lovely fireplace adds ambiance; in summer the walk way to the front door is surrounded by stunning hydrangeas and other colorful flowers. However if one goes there I recommend a cocktail and the bread basket and skip the entree. read more
