Service was slow and the kitchen is a disaster: with the restaurant half empty it was over 30 min before they served the sandwiches for dinner at 8 PM. Had to complain to the manager, who then delivered the food to the table. Worse, the hamburger and Reuben's were so soggy on the bottom of the bun/bread that we had to flip the burger/sandwiches over in order to hold them. When we complained the manager was nasty and told us that he saw the sandwiches prepared and that they were not soggy, and then he called us liars. He did remove the cost of two sandwiches from the bill, but the experience was so terrible that we will never return, and friends at the resort are now avoiding this place. read more

We went to the marshside for the first visit of the 2024 summer with some friends who were visiting from out of town. Per usual on the cape in summer, our group was less than 6 (must have 6+ for reservations), so we waited in the nice bench and grass area out front. Unfortunately, it was a 45 minute wait, but we ordered drinks at the bar and took them outside. After an hour or so, I checked in to see how much longer - was it worth another round of drinks or not before we ended up at a table? The hostess could not find our name on any list even though we had been given a "buzzer." We were seated right away because they thought someone must have spoken up when our name was called (once again we had a "buzzer"). So, we awkwardly line jumped two groups who were waiting outside next to us and were seated. Service is not always quick here; however, service was exceptionally slow to the point of looking around to find servers or bussers for water, etc. Our waitress was exceptionally kind. The food was above average, but took well over an hour to arrive. We had: Bourbon Chicken Wings (don't recommend). Burrata (yes, recommend) Chicken Frances (yes, recommend) Baked Haddock (yes, recommend) Swordfish Tacos (yes, recommend) Apple Cider Glazed Short Ribs (yes, recommend) Mac & Cheeze with Short River (don't recommend... there was so much cracker crumble on top that I had a plate full of mess by the time I reached Mac). Things to know: it can be a long wait during summer, but historically is managed well by staff to keep things moving. The outside area is nice for drinks while you wait. Valet parking can be hectic, but is necessary given the size of parking lot. Hoping that things revert to normal for the prime of summer. read more

A happy accident stumbling upon this place! Beautiful garden out front caught my eye and when our plans fell through we stopped in here for a delicious lunch! We sat on the porch which was awesome, great views of the marsh and nice breeze. Service was great, I ordered the swordfish and it was delicious. Dinner with friends. The Honey and I got to Marshside early because of the "no reservation" policy and did not regret it one bit. Valet parking is helpful. Checked in with the host for a table of five (indoors), got the offered buzzer and stepped over to the bar to get a drink for the expected 35 minute wait. There's a waiting area with comfortable seating for that specific purpose! Brought the (OK) Espresso Martini and the glass of Cabernet to the space and waited. Our friends arrived and we were quickly seated. The restaurant was busy but obviously well managed. I started with a cup of Clam Chowder. Delicious. Lots of clams in a savory broth with potatoes. I followed with the Classic Fish and Chips. Beer battered Haddock with French Fries and Cole Slaw. Another good choice. Tender fish inside a crisp coating, generously portioned and well plated. The ladies chose the Fish Tacos with grilled Swordfish - three sword fish tacos - The Honey would have preferred the dish without the Fresno Peppers - but otherwise delicious. Also generously served. The service was great, helpful, courteous server, the place, although large, was busy but not noisy and the dishes well reasonably priced. The Marshside is a Cape staple. Cozy with gorgeous views, the menu has something for everyone. The staff are prompt and attentive. They can even accommodate some food allergies. The view is beautiful, the service was fantastic (lovely waitress who was very sweet with our overly tired, hangry kiddo). The drinks were strong even though they didn't taste as such. The food was mediocre at best, some winners were the baked haddock and the mushroom ravioli. The risotto was kind of awful, cold, bland, very small portion. Kids meals were a hit! Went to the Marshide two nights ago. Very good. My wife had an amazing beet salad, that was waaay more than just a salad. Delicious. She also had a fried shrimp dish that she loved. I had the Cape Cod Reuben, and it was top notch. Delicious and came with crispy coated french fries. The sandwich was huge, and I brought 1/2 home for yesterday's lunch. The other couple each had the mussels from the starter menu and each had a bowl of soup. My wife and I each had a drink. The service was good and our waitress was lovely. The price was pretty fair. Great marsh views. We arrived an hour before sunset and the sky cleared after raining all day for a beautiful finish full of golden light. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated at a window table. Our server came about five minutes later, took our drink order and returned with them after 10-25 minutes. We asked about rolls when she took our dinner order and she said they would be out soon. 15 minutes later, the rolls came with delicious honey butter. Our entrees 1.Tacos with fried haddock were quite large & flavorful 2. Baked Haddock is beautifully done and delicious 3. Meatloaf was tasty enough, request for extra gravy was not fulfilled. 4. Chicken Parm with pasta, a special was also good. A second drink was ordered but never came. Our server was pleasant but somewhat lacking. This was first my time back in the reconstructed building, the first building being a simple summer cottage with limited seating. It was my father's GoTo for breakfast, he passed in 1979. Let me also tell you the lobster roll (not big) didn't taste that fresh, market price at $48 . Let me add we didn't even like the cocktails - margarita ( taste like rubbing alcohol) and sangria (tasted like cheap Cabernet on ice no juice or anything else) ... Because the weather for our bus trip to the Cape wasn't exactly what we hoped for, we traded lunch at our scheduled outdoor venue for a last minute change to lunch at the Marshside. I needn't have worried. Lots of fresh clam meat and a savory stuffing. Exactly the way it ought to be. I had the haddock. I asked for minimal crumbs and it was just right. Fresh, flaky and moist. The sauce perfectly blended everything together without overwhelming. My partner ordered the Linguine with Littlenecks, and she woke up the next day extolling the flavors. Visiting the area on vacation and stopped by a craft fair. Bought a nice little painting and the artist recommended Marshside for an early dinner. Discovered a hidden gem. The drinks were superb (the maple bourbon cream and Ciderrita were great!). Started with the squash - apple soup which was delicious - ordered a cup but should have ordered the bowl!. The short rib grilled cheese was delicious and the waitress willing substituted a vegetable (carrots) for the standard fries. My wife's Cobb Salad was also good. Apple crisp for dessert was a good ending to the meal. Service was good and our waitress had a wry sense of humor which we enjoyed. We were looking for a place open late on the off season on a Thursday night. The Marshside took our reservation for a party of six at 7:30pm. Parking was challenging, but the challenges ended at the lot. We were seated promptly. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. Although I found the menu to be limited we all found something we liked. I chose the swordfish tacos and they were excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the mushroom raviolis were also delicious. This place has just average food and average service, but if you're lucky enough to get a window seat, you'll have great views of the birds feeding on the feeders that they've got set up. I fell in love with this place ages ago when it was a small cottage on the side of the marsh with good food. I hadn't been back until recently, and I must say that it's no longer the kind of restaurant that one falls in love with. Go for the birds and the views of the marsh. The food was okay but the options were not as extensive as other restaurants' buffets. The check was delivered rather quickly. We paid as we ate our desserts/tea. After a few minutes the manager came and told us their next reservation was there and we had to leave. We were flabbergasted to say the least. My family and I are Cape locals, and frequent the Marshside often, even in the dead of winter. We phoned 4 days in advance of Easter Sunday, in order to see what time by which we'd need to come in for dinner before closing. We were told the restaurant would be closing at 8p. When asked if we could at 7:30, we were told "sure. you don't need a reservation, but you will not have an issue". As it is still considered "offseason" on Cape Cod, finding a restaurant which was open on Easter was a tall feat. To be on the safe side, my very elderly mother, my fiance and I arrived at 7:15p. The very young, and apparently very inexperienced hostess informed us that the "kitchen closed at 7" and that we'd not be seated. After I suggested to her that we'd phoned in advance "4-5 days ago" and that there are no other restaurants open, and that we'd counted on the Marshside for our Easter dinner, the hostess was unflinching and apparently uncaring. She then asked another associate to speak with us, and they both suggested that our calling "45 days ago" was inappropriate. I'd suggested again that we were just told we'd have a place for Easter, and that it was "4 to 5" days ago I had called, not "45 days ago". We were turned away. As I led my elderly mother back to our car, we had run into a young family of four who had had exactly the same experience. In fact, as we pulled into Scargo Cafe, which promptly seated us for Easter dinner, we ran into the same family of our in their parking lot, and all commiserated over the extremely cold and unprofessional treatment coming from the Marshside. We will likely not go back...at least not for a very long time. read more

From the calamari to the short rib grilled cheese and pork belly sliders to the meatloaf and swordfish tacos everything was tasty with great flavors. 1.5 stars if we could have split the pair. We have been long time patrons of the Marshside. For years it was one of our favorite spots to eat on the Cape; however, for a number of years it has been less and less of a top tier dining experience due to food quality, selection, and price as well as service. Add to that the mystery of how the parking lot can be completely full on a Friday night at 5, and yet there are maybe 20% of the tables occupied (perhaps the employees need their own lot down the road?). For years the menu has been in flux with most of our favorites being relegated to days gone by: chicken parmigian, turkey dinner, wedge salad to name a few. The prices have skyrocketed such that a group of three with one shared appetizer, three entrees and no alcohol or dessert ran up a tab of $140. (soft-neck clams with linguini, beef short rib, and scallop dish). Our appetizer - sweet and shazzy shrimp has always been a favorite, however, once again the cook/manager decided to mess with success and removed the bed of shredded lettuce on the plate that creates a crunch and nice paring with the remoulade. Too expensive or inconvenient to add to the plate of six deep friend shrimp in a wonderful batter for the $17 that it costs on the menu? Our entrees showed effort, but left much to be desired. The beef short rib was dry and chewy and the carrots that overwhelmed the plate appeared to be cooked not with the ribs in a slow cooker thus having no taste and alas, were crunchy/raw to the bite. The scallop plate saw a lovely display of seared scallops with mushroom ravioli arranged with a lovely combination of mushrooms and roasted asparagus; however, the scallops lacked any sort of flavor or imagination which is sad as they have so much more potential on this plate. Our guest had the clam dish and had no complaints, but I did not enquire. The bread that accompanied the meal used to be a true highlight of the dining experience at the Marshside which used to include a lovely selection of fruited breads as well as inspired varieties made on site; however, that is no longer the case. We were served mini muffins that were akin to those one might find at the Stop and Shop bakery and a series of hard rolls that reminded me mostly of stories I have read of the colonial Navy and the ships biscuits they were served - hard, durable to travel, but not much in taste. The butter was the only saving grace as it was infused with honey or some other lovely flavor. Our server left much to be desired - she was a bit of rough neck and might actually have been on the boat that morning harvesting the scallops We ordered soft drinks all around and our appetizer at the same time. but she did not show up with our drinks until we had received our appetizer from a kitchen expediter and had mostly eaten it! She also was not seen again to refill our drinks, nor did she ask. She did refill our water at one point while waiting for our main dishes, but did not appear again until it was time for dessert which we declined. Gruff and salty which is a stable of most year round wait staff, but we are more used to that at Grumpy's down the road with our eggs rather than when out for fine dining - I had a hard time justifying the 15% tip we did leave for the inflated bill. This is a place we used to take all our guests as well as family throughout the summer. Now, I fear that it is struck from the list as there is much better food and service to be found in Dennis at other restaurants. The ambiance is lovely by the marsh, but the Marshside has lost its charm. read more

Terrible service! Rotten attitudes! We made a 7:30 reservation for 12 people through our hotel well in advance. We arrived at 7:15 and were told our table wasn't ready. By 8:15 our table STILL wasn't ready, so 5 of us decided to get a drink at the bar. Upon sitting at the bar, we were told that if we were waiting for a table, we could not sit at the bar seats, and had to take our drinks to the front waiting area, something I had never heard of before at any other restaurant. Nevertheless, we said "Fine", yet as our drinks were being poured, we noticed they were being placed at the END of the bar. When all drinks were ready, the young, blonde woman bartender said we could pick up our drinks on the side. SHE WAS NOT EVEN GOING TO HAND THEM TO US! I have never in my life been so insulted, especially when we are spending $20+ per drink! At that point I didn't even WANT the drinks, but we paid for them, and even left her a tip. We waited until 8:30 for our table, which STILL wasn't ready, then decided to just give up and leave. We will NEVER go back to this restaurant ever again. My cousin and I stopped here for lunch recently while I was down the Cape on vacation. He knew of it from previous stays and so thought he would take me to try it. Despite there being valet parking we were able to just pull into a spot as it was early enough in the day. We both ordered drinks, appetizers, and dessert and enjoyed each and every course. We started off with a fantastically prepared serving of the most tasty onion rings. The batter was light but every ring was well coated and delicious. I had the Jeanne's corn chowder which was a deliciously prepared chowder with great body but not overpoweringly thick which can be a problem with improperly prepared chowders. I would totally order this again! My cousin ordered the wedge salad which looked amazing! I had a taste and was pleased with the quality of the blue cheese, the amount of bacon and tomato, and the delicious dressing. It was a great example of a classic dish and its taste measured up as well. Because the drinks we had ordered initially had began to take their magical affect, we opted to look at the desert venue. Even though I told the server I was just going to "look" I decided on the Oh My Chocolate Pudding which really lived up to its name! It was really more like a luscious pot de creme but I don't care what you call it it was heavenly. Incredibly rich chocolate pudding with a small quantity of whip cream and ice cream. Perfect ending for a perfect meal. My cousin ordered the Keylime pie and based on how quickly he consumed it (he did not offer me any which is fine because I am not a fan) which I took as a sign to mean he enjoyed it as well.
