Pandan + Sweet Corn + Cheese and Green Tea + KitKat Green Tea + Cheese
    Komal R.

We ordered the Green Tea + KitKat and Pandan + Sweet corn Martabaks for delivery. Both were pretty delicious, the cake was spongy and not too sweet. The fillings were generous and I loved they added condensed milk to both. Each mini order has 2 pieces which is quite a good sized portion. Everything came packaged very well and still warm so we know it was freshly made.

This place is so unique. Definitely have to come try it out for yourself. The dessert exceeded my expectations. We ordered the mini Martabak (comes in two pieces) with pandan and cheese corn flavor. They were two very large pieces and highly recommend bringing a friend to share. I would love to come back and try the different items and flavors. It's difficult to wrap my head around this savory yet sweet snack combo, but I'm loving it! They are made to order and does take approximately 15-30 min based on how busy they are when you visit. Expect some wait time but these snacks are definitely worth the wait.

tl;dr the menu may seem unconventional at first glance, but the rich street food served at this authentic shop is all the rage in Indonesia Martabak, derived from the Arabic word for "folded," refers to the stuffed, pancake-like street food common in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. The "telor" (savory) martabak variety popularized in Jakarta is reminiscent of roti with meat, egg, and scallions, while the manis (sweet) style from Surabaya is more like a thick, chewy pancake. The latter is classically topped with butter, peanuts, and cheese, but more innovative fix-ins range from matcha to Oreos to Nutella. While martabak hawkers are always a stone's throw away in Indonesia, dedicated vendors are understandably limited in the States. Enter Martabak OK. This tiny cafe quietly debuted on Washington Ave in 2018, its black-and-yellow striped awning standing out among an otherwise dull block. Martabak OK quickly picked up Philadelphia Magazine's "Best Suped-Up Pancakes" award. Then, the takeout-centric shop weathered the pandemic, which was when my partner and I first tried their street food lineup. The interior is decked with hand-painted murals depicting Martabak OK's cartoon mascots. Rope-and-bamboo chandeliers hang from the textured ceiling panels. In lieu of tables, the small customer space has one long pickup counter for takeout bags, as well as a few stools intended for waiting rather than dining. The extensive menu is displayed across 4 wall-mounted screens on the back wall. During our first visit, my partner and I ordered both martabak telor and martabak manis, and we immediately were surprised by the sheer weight of our takeout boxes. Just a single order of the dense fare could surely fill up a small family. We also fondly recall the unparalleled richness of both varieties. When Martabak OK recently released their "Mini" series (the same snacks fit for a smaller collective stomach), we were game for a return visit. This time, we opted for 2 sweet ones: the Pandan (with sweet corn and shredded white cheddar) and the Red Velvet (with Oreo and cream cheese) Minis. I ordered ahead with ASAP pickup, but we were quoted a few additional minutes once we arrived. During our downtime, another patron -- an Indonesian immigrant now living in New York City -- shared that he was picking up a massive, weekly bulk order on behalf of his cultural community back in NY. He gave Martabak OK a thumbs-up on authenticity. We soon were handed a reusable takeout bag with two small-but-hefty boxes, and we darted home to dine. Per Martabak OK's recommendation, we gave our food a 1-minute zap in the microwave to achieve a warm temperature and smooth consistency to the cream. Both styles dripped with butter and were slathered with the same, memorably rich condensed milk-based filling. This go-around, I also was impressed with the pancake itself -- crispy on the exterior while pleasantly chewy throughout. We both preferred the pandan style, which paired the characteristic richness with salty cheese and mildly sweet corn. The red velvet martabak offered a rush of sugar that, while yummy, would surely become overwhelming beyond my single slice. Mini sizes (which, again, are plenty to split between 2 people) run a hair under $10, while the full portions cost closer to $20. The unique novelty of martabak is a welcome component of Philly's fast-casual dining scene, and I see myself returning when I get a strong hankering for the chewy, sweet-and-salty richness.

One word, delicious. I highly recommend it. I would visit again next time I am in Philly. Most people order ahead and pick up. If you go there and order it can take up to an hour before you can get your food. I see so many orders it can get very busy... The whole portion is too large, you should get it for a family, but it is too much a couple.

I tried martabak for the 1st time here and was amazed at how delicious it was! I was super excited and tried the Original with peanuts, cheese, and chocolate sprinkes as well as the Pandan with these same toppings. Initially, it was a strange combination but it grew on me after 2-3 more bites. I was so happy that I bought some more before heading back to NYC. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping by and grabbing one. The size is really generous and the price was decent.

First timer and am impressed!!! If their fried tofu isn't the best fried tofu, then I don't know what is. Pancake was good too. Coming from Hong Kong, we have something similar, so it's like reliving my childhood. Not cheap, but the portions are huge. Cannot recommend enough!

It took me forever to check out Martabak Ok and I'm so sad that it did! I really have been missing out on the perfect takeout dinner or even light snack option. Martabak specializes in Indonesian sweet and savory pancakes. When my fiance and I were there, we had to try a full size of both naturally - we got the spicy sambel bawang savory pancake (which is definitely spicy just as a heads up) and the pandan sweet pancake (cheese and sweet corn). Both were incredibly delicious - the savory pancake texture was crispy and flaky and the meat inside was well seasoned, and the pandan pancake was super soft and fluffy. The cheese added a light bit of salt to the sweet and creamy flavor of the pandan pancake, and everything harmonized so well. The two pancakes were really different but both were excellent. We were given it all in a togo box that came with a branded reusable bag. Getting the full size fed us for two meals honestly. Just as a tip though also the pancakes can get a tiny bit messy so just be careful taking it home! We really want to get some of the minis next time so we can sample more flavors at once and will absolutely be back for more. We recommend ordering ahead so you don't have to wait too long, the pancakes can take a bit to make but it's absolutely worth it. Would highly recommend this extremely unique takeout spot!

Im not sure if they want to continue the business with this attitude ‍ and lack of commitment. Order done, payment done, no follow up and being rude after my reminder. Good luck dah martabak paling ok

Was craving martabak today, but a quick Google search showed that they were closed. I decided to give them a call anyway. To my surprise they are open, for takeout orders at least. Their current hours are 12-6pm Sunday to Saturday. I placed an order for a pandan martabak with peanuts and was told it was going to take 30 mins to make which is a bit longer than usual. Make sure you order 30 mins ahead of time if you are hungry!! There was barely any hint of pandan but the martabak was still delicious. I ate two pieces, one after another and quickly got full, but still wanted to keep eating. I don't regret eating the extra pieces even though it did make me a little sleepy after lunch.

The best items to get from this place is the martabak telor and the crispy tofu. If you can only get one, get the crispy tofu. It's out of this world! The tofu is cut into bite-size pieces, and deep fried with spices. Yum-yum. If you didn't like tofu before, you'll love it when you take a bite of this tofu.

Holy delicious. I have never even heard of martabak before, so my first visit was a bit frustrating because I couldn't understand what exactly this place was offering. I know that there were sweet and savory versions of something. There were pictures of some of the options on the menu but everything is made to order so there was nothing to physically see. The cashier seems perplexed that I was so oblivious to what they were serving. After his attempt to explain what martabaks were, I realized that most of the items they serve only come in 12-piece (or slice?) orders. They offered two-piece orders of only four kinds of the sweet martabak manis series. They have offered no 2-piece of the savory pieces. I only wanted to try it this time so I order the two-piece sweet corn with mozzarella cheese. O.M.G. What a delicious, mind-blowing bite of food. The texture of the "pancake" is outrageous. The flavor of the sweet corn was perfect. Not too sweet, and just the right level of creaminess. How have I not had these before?! Five visits later, I am much more familiar with the menu, and a few pounds heavier. Everything is outrageously delicious. The Taro savory beef and cheese is like a dozen cheesesteak and egg sliders. However busy this place is (not sure), it should be busier. Totally underrated. Stop here and experience some seriously delicious street treats. Call ahead and place your order, because everything is made to order. They now have bubble tea. There are a few casual tables, but this is more of a takeout spot.

If you don't like this place what's the Marta with you? I'm definitely going to be bak! Full disclosure: I'm still not sure what martabak, is but I know it's more than OK! There are three types of things, and they all have different options. A savory fried thing that's like a deep fried crepe or tortilla stuffed with your choice of chicken or beef with all these delicious spices and maybe egg and scallions? I got the chicken with mozzarella and holy hell. They are not here to cater to your New Year's resolutions. So much cheese. So heavy. And huge! It's about $20 but could probably feed 3-4. It's cut into like 12 pieces and I could only eat about 4 before being uncomfortably full. Would be a great thing to bring to a party. It doesn't taste as good reheated because you lose the crunch but it's still pretty good. If you want to feel healthy you can get it with corn. Was about $18. A cake thing that's kind of spongy and kind of cornbready and stuffed with cheese but it's dessert. And it's sitting in a pool of condensed milk. You can choose from plain, coffee, red velvet, taro, pandan, green tea (last two are great for Eagles Parties or St Patty's). Also comes with corn if you want it to which I feel weird about. You can also add peanuts, toblerone, Nutella, etc. That's it I decided I'm bringing this to breakfast at work Friday. Pandan with cheese was $15. A pizza thing that I haven't tried yet but definitely will. You can choose from multiple toppings like green tea kit Kat, oreo, and of course cheese! I forgot they have a 4th thing! It's fried tofu and its very fried and very good. Martabak! I'm so excited that you're here! Order ahead, it takes about 20 minutes to prepare. The seating area is cute, with murals, but most people are taking out here. I think they also offer delivery. Their packaging is so cute! I love the little cartoon people.

Sweet Martabak, my favorite. Nice and gooey when reheated

The egg is coated in sambal which is definitely spicy but pairs so well with the rice. The beef was tender and fall apart and the sauce was thick and so flavorful. It's hard to explain what it tastes like but it's the perfect blend of coconut, salty, sweet, and very savory. They have a pre fix menu mostly (it changes every month), but on Saturdays, they do the giant Liwetan communal eating, which is served on a banana leaf and meant to be eaten with your hands. Let me just start by saying that we are Hardena groupies. I have almost broken my phone screen trying multiple times to get my hands on a #notpizza box during the pandemic. This was the brainchild of Chef Diana at Hardena, and it was truly one of the only bright spots from COVID. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in). They also gave my mom tea when she asked for it, even though that's not something they normally offer. The interior is super cute and well-decorated, and that pink neon sign really shines nicely through the window. I will have to try to resist temptation every time we pass this (which is often), but I'm already thinking about when we can go back! Don't sleep on Rice & Sambal!

The fried fish rice platter is soo good! I grew up eating fishes whole so I'm not afraid to pick around for the meat. It's difficult to find places that serve a whole fish and this experience feels nostalgic. I know most people would prefer their fish filleted. My partner also loved his fried beef rice platter. We ordered the mama's chicken, shrimp with lady fingers, and homemade roti canai. Just a note that the most updated menu is online instead of the photos here. (Also rice is not included with the entrées, but needs to be ordered separately.) (1) Shrimp with Lady Fingers- I would come back for just this again and again. It was not too salty, and it was very flavorful (just the right amount of fishy), and the okra was cooked just perfectly. I am a little bias as an okra fan, but I LOVED this dish. My only issue is that the shrimp wasn't deveined. (2) Homemade Roti Canai- The roti was very flaky and had an excellent texture. I guess it's no surprise that it's the biggest thing advertised on the menu. The curry was pretty standard that came with it. It was just a little strange to me that the roti canai was completely cold when it came out. (3) Mama's Chicken- The chicken was dry for us, probably as a result of the smaller pieces being fried. Overall, it was pretty OK, but we wouldn't order this again. The service was excellent- food was quick to come out & anytime we finished a dish, needed water, or needed the check, the servers were at the table before we had to say anything. Totally streamlined!

A friend recommended it as a restaurant to try in the area and we came over for dinner as a party…read moreof two. We got seated immediately and they had a variety of Malaysian items on the menu that had a little of everything and ones similar to other Asian cuisine dishes. Roti Canai - The piece of roti was huge, a big portion for 2 people which we enjoyed. The curry was light and a little sweet paired with the thin and chewy roti. Pad Thai - A very classic dish. It was mildly spicy which gave a good kick and it had the classic flavors being sour, sweet, savory and nutty at the same time. The noodles were a nice texture with the crunchier bean sprouts, the tender shrimp and chewy tofu. We also tried the Hainanese Chicken which was a bit different than what we were used to but it was still tender and soft. A solid place for dinner in the Chinatown area if you're wanting to get some different dishes.
