Egg Scallion Pancake, 911 Beef Meatballs, Smashed Chicken (Thigh) Rice, Hokkian Noodle (Pork)

IndoSpice is a lovely space (great art and well lit) with terrific service (attentive and we enjoyed speaking with the chef) and offers wonderful Makassarese cuisine from Indonesia at reasonable prices. Two of us shared: - Egg Scallion Pancake (crisp on the outside and light'n'fluffy on the inside--suggest a dash of soy sauce if you need more salt); - 911 Beef Meatballs (wonderful spice level--plenty of chiles in the sauce!); - Smashed Chicken (Thigh) Rice (crisp on the outside, great spice level--appreciated the cooling rice, tomato, and cucumber on the side); - Hokkian Noodle (Pork) (really great noods, definitely recommend squeezing the wedge of lime that comes with it to add dimension). And we added a container of Peyek Kacang (crispy, savory, rice-flour/coconut milk/spices cracker with peanuts) to nibble on later (they've a number of different to-go offerings at the counter). Next time we're bringing friends so we can try more dishes (and we'll save room for dessert)!

Good place to entertain friend who are not familiar with Indonesian food. Appetizers: corn fritter, scallion pancake. This is my first time trying the scallion pancake. It is thin and crunchy, to my surprise. Everyone enjoyed the corn fritters and stuffed tofu Don't forget to check the cracker at the register . I recommend the shrimp crackers and rempeyek. The rempeyek has authentic flavor and it reminds me home. I am disappointed that they were out of grilled banana. I ordered green banana ice and coconut banana ice. Both are refreshing and not overly sweet chocolate. Good dessert after spicy dinner

We made a stop here again on our way to New York--and it was absolutely worth it. Even with several Indonesian spots to choose from, this one keeps pulling us back. The menu isn't overwhelming, the price is reasonable, the protein portion is more than decent, the foods are authentic and everything is done so well. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. This time we ordered ayam Taliwang, ayam penyet, and their green banana ice dessert--each one packed with flavor and incredibly satisfying. If you're nearby and craving Indonesian food, this place is definitely one to try.

3.5 Not bad food but not a 5 stars food/service. Brought some friends that was visiting from west coast due to the high reviews that I was seeing but quickly felt pretty embarrassed. The restaurant it self is well decorated to represent Indonesia which is appreciate. It was small but clean. In terms of food, maybe my friends and I ordered the wrong things but everything was just mediocre. What we liked most was yellow sauce fried tilapia; fish was crispy and well cooked and the sauce was probably the most flavorful among all of the dishes ordered. The least liked was the coto makasar (not pictured because it did not look pretty); which could just be personal preference but it was too grainy and not enjoyable. The element that brought down my rating is the service. Right of the bat we told the server that we were doing family style but when the appetizers came out we weren't given any plates. Then, when the other dishes came out and it no serving utensil. We did ended up asking for plates and utensils but the responds we received felt like we were inconveniencing them. I would like to be back because the restaurant does have a pretty large selections of food so I want to give it another try but maybe will do a take out instead of dine in. Hopefully, other dishes will be better.

The service was great! I really enjoyed the tea. The food was good as well. I was able to get the spice on the side. The restaurant was clean and decorated nicely.

We came here to pick up some food for the first time while visiting the area for a festival. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. Overall Ratings Restaurant 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 5/5 Parking Street parking Atmosphere: The restaurant is small but nicely decorated and very clean. Service: The service was excellent. Even though we were only there for takeout, the cashier or owner we interacted with was very friendly. What We Ordered: -Egg Scallion Pancake (Very good.) -Taliwang Chicken Rice Platter (Very good, a bit on the spicy side but the heat does not linger.) -Smashed Chicken Rice (By far my favorite dish, the chicken was tender and flavorful.) Final Thoughts: I would definitely go again. The food we tried was delicious, the staff were friendly, and it is easy to see why the restaurant is so popular with locals.

What a delight this place is! So welcoming and the food is oh-so-good! Landed here on a Friday night with a bottle of wine and a big appetite. I knew before I went that I was going to get the salted fish with fried rice and it absolutely did not disappoint! The fish was so delicious and flavorful and the fried rice was perfect! My friend and I ordered two entrees and enjoyed family style. We started out both ordering the salted fish but our kind server directed us to another dish so that we could enjoy more flavors! We ordered the red fried rice. DELICIOUS! Filled with chicken and shrimp and was a taste explosion. Definitely start with the corn fritters. They show up in every review for a reason. You should definitely check out this unassuming place. Once you walk in the door you will not be sorry. They are serving up delicious food!

We are on a culinary journey since in Chicago, we don't have Indonesian restaurants. We came here on a Tuesday afternoon. The place was empty. The decor is definitely amazing. The place was clean. So it's already a plus. Food - we ordered 4 different entree and 4 appetizers. The food was amazing. The taste was not bland. We can't really eat spicy so the sambal that they gave us was amazing. It was the perfect amount of spicy. Service - they are sooo nice. They gave us recommendation and it was perfect. Overall, it was a great experience.

I came here right after their grand opening. Honestly, the food was a bit bland and lacked flavor. We tried the pork satay, which came with a spicy and sweet soy sauce. I was hoping for the traditional peanut sauce that usually comes with Indonesian satay. But the dessert (pandan jelly in coconut milk) really stood out! It was light, refreshing, and delicious. Service was great, and the place has a nice ambiance with subtle Indonesian décor. My friend told me I should give it another try! maybe I just missed the right dishes!

IndoSpice - South Philly's Makassar Treasure In the heart of South Philly, IndoSpice is quietly serving up some of the most delicious Makassar-inspired dishes this side of the globe. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and refreshingly low-key--perfect for a casual bite that still feels special. What really makes this place shine is the flavor-packed food and reasonable prices. Each dish is crafted with care and bursting with bold spices and textures that make Makassar cuisine stand out. Whether you're in the mood for something savory, spicy, or sweet, IndoSpice has something that'll hit the spot. This is the kind of place you recommend to your friends after you've gone a few times yourself--because it's that good. Authentic, tasty, affordable, and under the radar... for now.

Another Indonesia spot in South Philly you need to try! They're serving up unique Indonesian dishes you won't find at other Indonesian restaurants, and the prices are just right for their portions. Some of my favorites: - Mini Beef Meatballs - U.P Noodle (the red pork is so good) - Taliwang Chicken Rice Platter - Tempong Rice Platter . The restaurant is beautifully designed with aesthetic touches that highlight Indonesian culture . The place is a bit small, so it may not be ideal for large groups. It does get pretty busy on weekends, but the line moves quickly! Just be patient and kind to the staff. Don't let your hunger turn into anger and ruin the experience.

This restaurant welcomes you with warmth and comfort atmosphere. The food was amazing. Def a must try and will be returning to try other food on the menu.

Not too busy at 4pm for a B-day celebration on a Sunday afternoon. Come early if you want the big (seats 8) round table. For apps we got the satay, scallion pancakes and lumpiang (spring) rolls. Good, very good and ok respectively. We enjoyed the Dadar Jagung, we loved the red fried rice and the kinda messy Yellow sauce Fish (tilapia). Taliwang chicken, Golden crispy and Hokkien noodles were good. A nice BYOB spot for the spice less sampled.

It is buffet style, so all of the dishes are laid out on a food line and you order at the counter. I highly recommend the Nasi Padang ($14) as it was SO much food and everything was very delicious. The kale was cooked in coconut milk which was aromatic, creamy, and slightly spicy, but still retains that slightly bitter edge. The egg is coated in sambal which is definitely spicy but pairs so well with the rice. The beef was tender and fall apart and the sauce was thick and so flavorful. The chicken was also fall apart soft. The highlight of the dish was getting to eat each component with the coconut rice. The coconut rice is some of the best I've ever had!! It's hard to explain what it tastes like but it's the perfect blend of coconut, salty, sweet, and very savory. I would say it's much more traditional tasting compared to Sky Cafe (another popular Indonesian spot). They take cash/venmo/zelle (I think)! It is incredibly worth it for the price. Definitely want to support a smaller, local business!

We've walked past here many times but have never pulled the trigger, and we are so glad we did…read moretonight! They have been here for 2 years and 1 month as of April 2026. They have a pre fix menu mostly (it changes every month), but on Saturdays, they do the giant Liwetan communal eating, which is served on a banana leaf and meant to be eaten with your hands. Let me just start by saying that we are Hardena groupies. I have almost broken my phone screen trying multiple times to get my hands on a #notpizza box during the pandemic. This was the brainchild of Chef Diana at Hardena, and it was truly one of the only bright spots from COVID. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in). They also gave my mom tea when she asked for it, even though that's not something they normally offer. The interior is super cute and well-decorated, and that pink neon sign really shines nicely through the window. I will have to try to resist temptation every time we pass this (which is often), but I'm already thinking about when we can go back! Don't sleep on Rice & Sambal!

We noted "vegan" in our reservation and they were ready for us when we arrived! The menu for this small family-owned spot changes every month, and we tried the June menu. They present five fixed courses for dinner, and the service was warm and welcoming. We were blown away by the whole meal! I enjoyed every single dish, and my husband who usually doesn't love vegan food also enjoyed every dish. The flavors were bold, flavor-packed, tangy, and spicy. They also give you three unique hot sauces to accompany your meal, all of which had a delicious kick. Our faves of the June menu were Soto Kaldu Kering (house made noodles, lemongrass tofu scramble, bean sprouts, chives, ginger & galangal coconut oil, lime) - absolutely delectable chewy noodles and savory scramble and so much flavor - and the Sambal Caesar Salad (grilled romaine, vegan sambal caesar dressing, tempe crouton crumbles, grated housemade vegan cheese, shallots) - a suprising favorite, but the flavors were just so mouthwatering with a kick from the shallots, spice from the sambal, crunch from crouton crumbles. Highly recommend Rice & Sambal - we would come back to try another month's menu.
