2nd weekend here due to visiting my brother in law at Brookside Healthcare Center. After our visit we most downtown to enjoy a late lunch a the scenery. Martha Greens is the best. Last week I had the chocolate chip cookie, blueberry cookie and lemon poppyseed muffin. The blueberry cookie is out of this world. I'm sorry if you never tried it because this week was the last week of it being made and I got the last one. So sad, yet so happy. I'm looking forward to the apple pie cookie and the cinnamon muffin. The place alone is not bad. The service could definitely needs improvement. The food is most just terrible. My wife and I had lunch at this place. My wife ordered the steak Benedict anI the corned beef Benedict. the quality of my wife's ssteak was not a very good sirloin cut, although the were at least able to cook it right My corned beef Benedict was the worst thing I have ever ordered or tasted. The menu indicated that it would be 1/3 lb of corned beef on the Benedict, however I got 2 of what was about an 1/8 lb corned beef hash that they formed into a patty. It was some low quality type canned hash that had some horrible unnatural flavor that incapacitated me with a bad headache for the rest of my Saturday afternoon. I told the lady in the cashier that their menu needs to be more truthful and indicate that it'll be corned beef hash and not sliced corned beef you would find in more legit delis. If they advertise 1/3 lb of corned beef and they deliver 1/4 lb of corned beef hash, they need to indicate so in their menu. I don't believe I shall return due to the bad food experience I had, but I am more of a picky when it comes to food since I am a very particular Chef. An old city like Redlands is bound to have a few institutions, although some have disappeared since my first visit way back in 1990. One-part bakery and one-part family restaurant, this is a classic Americana restaurant. Inside can be really busy, nearly every table and booth taken, or, you might find yourself relatively alone, but that could also change with surprisingly rapidity! I don't think I've ever tried lunch or dinner options in all my infrequent visits, but breakfast reigns supreme here, so there's that. Frankly, I've never had a bad meal here. Service is casual friendly, but slow and steady by design. I've always found the servers and staff to be cheerful and happy. My Grandma turned 80 yesterday, and all she asked for was a pineapple upside down cake. I would have made her one myself, but I absolutely had zero time since it was so last minute. I called around to 6 different places, until someone suggested Martha's. I called and crossed my fingers they'd have one. Salma bless her heart, informed me they had a few left and she could set one aside for me. Seems simple right? Picked it up, and set off on my hour and a half drive. This is a must try for all folks stopping in Redlands. With a small town feel inside and great staff, this is a top business for downtown. They are open from breakfast to lunch - they are very kind if you do end up coming into the restaurant closer to the kitchen closing but make sure to check the hours. The bakery was DELICIOUS. I placed an order for pick up and when I went to the bakery, the girl behind the counter had no idea of an order that was placed since there was not a request for one on her list. Throughout the whole conversation she remained calm and apologetic, that is rare to see in this day and age. Her helpfulness and wonderful personality/attitude made such a HUGE impression on me. She finally found my order receipt and put my order together. It was a simple order of cookies for a staff gathering but still, the way she handled the situation was very heartfelt and you could tell she really cared about the customer. The cookies were LOVED by all and I'll be placing more orders for the office all based on the wonderful employee that helped me. I have been going here for years and it's never been "great" but today was terrible. We were there for over 2 hours. We saw the server maybe 3 times. Food came out cold and wrong, I mentioned it and was dismissed. They were busy and I understand but they need to turn people away or have more staff. I had kids and it was so unenjoyable because they were starving. They added a tip and we had 5 people (3 adults,2 kids and a baby) they didn't deserve a $30 tip. I am a good tipper normally because the fact I have kids. So disappointing for a $165 meal. Wow!!! What an incredible place in Redlands, California I always drove past it, but never thought of stopping in. Well that finally changed this morning upon entering the bakery portion of the establishment we were greeted with an incredibly friendly gal who was ready to help immediately. The bakery was very clean very well stocked and very inviting a large mural of the original owner was on the wall, adding a real sense of hometown feel to an area that has gotten so big over the years. all of the pastries Were displayed beautifully and looked super appetizing. What stood out for me was the level of hospitality and customer service at that point, the pastries could've been complete crap and I still would have given this five star review I was that impressed but now let's get onto the pastries. The danishes were top-notch. I also sampled a gluten-free cupcake with amazing flavor, and even though the texture was kind of funky due to the gluten-free-ness of it all it was still incredibly good. We also purchased a chocolate eclair (not pictured it went from box to mouth immediately) which was not only gigantic, but so spot on in flavor, texture and appearance. I came early morning for bakery items only. Too early for the restaurant to be open. While waiting I decided to get a cinnamon roll. All of the pastries, cookies, and breads looked amazing. When it was my turn I asked the guy which bread he would recommend for making a grilled cheese sandwich. He recommended the cheese bread or jalapeño cheese bread as it has a sourdough base.
