I've been coming to Bricks and Birch since I moved to Redlands in 2018. I have always loved the breakfast pizza and eggel, and getting some sort of coffee with it. I hadn't been in a few months, and decided to drop in this morning to eat, have coffee and edit photos on my laptop. During the several hours there, I got to overhear exchanges between customers and staff. The morning shift boys were young, but friendly. Let me tell you, once the day shift crew came on, the energy shifted. Andy, I HIGHLY recommend you replace the tall, thin guy with the glasses. The whole time he was there, he acted as if he didn't want to be there. He was rude, stand offish, and completely disregarded customers. As soon as he BLATANTLY ignored a female customer who was trying to have a conversation with him but gave attention to her male counterpart, I was over it. Listen, I get it, he might have not wanted to entertain someone's story. But customer service means to acknowledge the customer and treat them with respect. I can't even count the amount of times I've divulged in conversation with people I didn't want to, but I still treated them like a human. The woman was visibility upset about how off putting he was. I packed my things, went over to the woman and told her feelings were valid because he had been dismissive towards others ever since he came in. I know you're not going to care about my review, I know you're not going to lose much money if I never come back. But people need to aware what kind of employees are here. As for the food and coffee - The ingredients no longer taste fresh on the breakfast pizza. It tastes cheap and rushed. The iced vanilla latte I had was mid at best, I forced myself to finish it. Which is disappointing because I have loved both for years. I think the young boys need some better training on how to make coffee, but at least they were personable. The young guy with long curly hair - keep up that positive energy. You're gonna go somewhere. Highly recommend bringing Quay back full time, maybe make him a manager or part owner because every time I've been there and he's makes the pizzas, everything is He's a staple, and is clearly loved by all the customers who were happy to see him when he walked in. I woke nearby and wanted some pizza for lunch. Happy to say my craving was satisfied! Not only were they fast they were reasonably priced and have a variety of items not just pizza. My husband had the jalapeno popper and I cannot remember what mine was called but it was delicious. Service was straightforward and cordial. There was one staffer running the cash register and making the pizza. Wish there were condiments (pepper and cheese readily available or offered). I've been recommended to check out Bricks and Birch by my roommate! I was told the Thai pizza was a must-eat. For my first time entering this pizza restaurant, I was struck by the amount of light that streamed into the open windows. There's plenty of seating as well indoors and outdoors. You can directly observe the oven and the flames by which pizzas are cooked in. I came in with the objective to find a good pizza for a potluck for my life group in graduate school. For the length of time it took for me to calculate how much pizza I needed and how much I was able to invest in, the staff were so patient and kind with me! In hopes to find a good vegan pizza for the group, I asked what they recommended and based on their recommendations I got the Veggie pizza, 12", vegan cheese, gluten free crust. It amounted to about $25, which is a bit on the pricy side for a 12" pizza. However, it was my first time buying a vegan pizza for friends, so I'm glad I got to try it for the first time here. They are also known for their vegan pastries especially the banana bread which I hope to try someday soon! They offered sample m&m cookies that provided the sugar boost for me to drive to my potluck. The wait time for the pizza to be made was about 15-20 min, around 3 pm when there weren't that many people. The pizza came steaming hot, and I can tell the ingredients were fresh. Sharing them with friends was a delight. I'm considering the higher price as partly an investment in the experience and presentation of the food - thank you to the staff who cares about these! The place is well kept and give me a sense of comfort. I want to give a shoutout to Adalaine for her exceptional kindness and patience with my confusion of what pizza to get. Was in the mood for a slice of pizza while on Vine street and remembered Bricks and Birch! No individual slices available, but a personal sized 6" pizza was perfect for me. I ordered a veggie pizza for about $10+ plus tax. Service was fine. Just know if you sit outside while waiting for your food they won't go outside and tell you, so you'll be in charge of checking in on when your food is ready. My order was to go so they placed it in a cute little box. Not sure if all of their pizza is like this, but the crust was BURNT! As in, black and bitter dough. Crust is my favorite part but I didn't get to eat the edges. The main part of the pie was fine with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. I added crushed red pepper and Parmesan cheese for more flavor. I enjoyed sitting outside of the establishment while reading my book on a quiet Saturday afternoon. 2 hour street parking available in front. Will I visit again? Maybe? Came in on a Thursday to do some studying, unfortunately, they don't offer wifi. I would recommend going somewhere else if you wanted to do some studying. I came when the place was not busy, like the foot traffic was not heavy when I visited and stayed. But I could not help but notice two tables with staked plates, dirty dishes, and already eaten food that seemed to have been there since lunch. I stayed for at least an hour, and during that entire time, the staff neglected to clean those two tables. While it was nice to order a personal pizza, which was good, I could not ignore the fact that none of the staff bothered to clear those two tables. It was my first time at this place, driven many times, but this first impression was really bad. We chose Bricks and Birch as a coffee stop while exploring Redlands. It is more than a coffee shop, they make pizza also (they have a nice pit fire oven in there) located inside a beautiful historic buidling with a wonderful facade. Their menu is extensive, lots of coffees and drinks options (including wine). Their pastries selection isn't great, but they specialize in scones so we got a couple. We got an Orange and Strawberry scone (huge) nice and fresh for $5 and also tried chocolate one, not as fresh, but big and same price. We also got 2 small mocha -s here, too sweet. I wouldn't get those again. They have water from the house. Nice service, not crazy lines or anything, laid back vibe. Funky decor, lots of seating inside and a few tables outside. This place used to be great. They've recently hired a guy who is the cashier and barista with a bad attitude and poor customer service. I have been coming here since I was a medical student and it was such a great place... until last Sunday. The guy is a large, curly headed young kid with glasses who made us almond milk lattes with CHUNKS of white curd-like pieces. We immediately asked for them to be remade ... he said "it was the milk" and if he remade them they'd "look the same" ... I have been coming here for years and never have I seen an almond milk latte look so disgusting. Anyway, he refused to remake them until we asked him again to remake with regular milk.
