We requested a local dish from the "English" menu. We were served a monkfish and lobster dish with a rich broth a potatoes. Once the fish and lobster was Eatin the server took the metal player to the kitchen where eggs were combined with the broth to make a silky delicious gravy. Perfect meal with great service. A world traveler friend gave me a list of restaurants to check out in Barcelona, and Terraza Martinez was in all caps in red bold writing. I saw a reservation was available for the next night and booked it. When the Uber pulled us up and we were on the mountainside wowwwww that was the first impression. The staff was incredible and attentive. The food was delicious, and the presentation of the paella was lovely. The drinks were crisp and the views while eating were cool to see all the marina activity and cruise ships leaving. This restaurant was a perfect last dinner of our Spain Honeymoon. (Playing music out loud on their phones) and the manager refused to address it. I asked for a new table and they refused to accommodate having a reservation specifically requesting a window seat. October 8, 2023. Sunday. 3:00 PM. We had reservations for 2. Regardless, we still waited about 10 minutes to be seated. I think without reservations, we'd still be waiting in that line. Packed house. The view of the ocean and bay from this restaurant is nothing short of spectacular. After sitting, it took another ten minutes for a waiter to notice us and take our order. We ordered a Mexican mule (13 euros) and Gin and tonic (17.75 euros). They used Tanqueray 10 gin which I liked- a lot. Both drinks were balanced and refreshing. They have a silly rule that you cannot order more than one paella (rice dish) per table. I didn't like this rule. Instead of sharing 2, and spending more money at their restaurant, we were forced to pick. We selected the Martinez rice (48 euros), a Valencian paella, made with rabbit and chicken. The paella had very little rabbit, and not much more chicken. Quite light on the meat for the price. Although it was quite tasty. We ordered Aperol spritzes after dinner. My wife didn't like hers at all. Mine had a strange aftertaste, which I didn't like. I'd say this is an average paella restaurant. With silly rules. The drinks are good. This place has nice views if you sit by the window. We were a group of 6 so they sat us in the middle of the restaurant. The espresso martini was quite good and was made with rum instead of vodka. They had a weird rule that you could only order 2 paellas for the table. So we got a chicken one and seafood one. The paella was way saltier than other paellas I've had. The seafood one was unshelled so the paella tasted extremely fishy. I liked the gem salad which was nice and tangy. However for a paella place the paella wasn't good. read more

Also know as Terraza Martínez, I really enjoyed my time at the restaurant in a group setting for the lovely views and solid food. First off, Martinez is located on top of a hill. Totally should Uber/drive here if possible as its a bit of a trek. After you get dropped off, you get a really cool view overlooking the oceanside of Barcelona. Really gorgeous and a quiet getaway from the hustle/bustle of La Rambla. We also just waited for a cab outside since a bunch came as people were being dropped off The restaurant itself is this quirky hut in the mountains feeling. By the evening, they actually opened up the restaurant event more as some of the plastic covering on top was lifted up. The best views are definitely by the window if you can and seemingly reserved for couples mostly. (We were a bigger group and a got table closer to the middle). Either way, you still do get this unique view outside of that same lovely hill view of Barcelona. Let's talk food and what we got: +Popcorn Sour: This was a play on a rum sour with some popcorn on top. A cute drink although eat the popcorn quickly or don't eat it at all (super obvious but I silly enough ate the popcorn at the end - bad idea). The drink itself is good minus the gimmick. +Grilled Octopus Paella: Def. looks bigger than it seems. For 5 people, it was quickly eaten by everyone. Not a bad dish. The octopus was our favorite part. +Little shrimp with garlic & chili: Surprisingly one of our favorite dishes. Packed with flavor in its broth. Super recommended. +Beef steak tartare: A slightly different take on the tartare with a bit more of a sour/spicy take. Not bad! +Calamari with padrón propers & aioli: This was a pretty expected calamari dish. Not too surprising but also solid. +Lemon meringue pie: Also solid with no big surprises. As a group, we were all able to have a solid piece. Good, solid flavor and not overly sweet. +Flan: The flan was also solid. Similarly to the pie, no big surprises. Just a solid flan taste. The food was very mediocre as the baby shrimp was inedible and the artichoke paella was the worst I have ever had. The view is nice but it is marred by dead or dying plants on the ledge. The food was fine. My steak was delicious/ a bit chewy of a piece for such a good cut. But what I found really disappointing was my waiter. He seemed annoyed at me. He didn't checked up on me throughout my meal. Not once did he ask me " How is everything" and when I was done with my meal , he asked me if there was anything else I wanted. I said " I'll have a macchiato please" smile on my face. And he just nodded and was so dismissive. Like my presence was bothering him. Maybe he was having a bad day and while I hope he didn't he had many chances to show up with a more warm energy and he never did. And THAT makes me not want to come back. They remind you multiple times, when you book, when they call to confirm, and when you arrive, that they're going to need to table free for the second service. This isn't a mystery. It's lovely if you happen to get a table with a view, but again, with all places, sometimes you don't get that table you want. We saw multiple people request to sit a reserved tables with views, only to be denied. We had a reservation, and a nice table with a view, so we couldn't complain. We ordered the formula, which all people at the table must order. The table behind us, a four top, with kids, couldn't get it because it would've meant the kids would've ordered it too. We got the black rice. Came with mussels, rustic salad, fries, croquettes, ans dessert. We elected to pay an additional 3€ for a lemon pie. Was worth it. Sure, it's a bit exspensive, but again, it's in a nice location and if you order the formula, I can't see how you could be too disappointed. Everything was tasty and nice. read more

This restaurant is one that I'd recommend avoiding for paella. It was undercooked, incredibly salty and the seafood tasted like it has been in a freezer for months. It smelled stale and was inedible and a profound disappointment. We did the pre fix dinner option and it was such a rip off. We just ate the appetizers and couldn't eat the paella, but the manager insisted that there was nothing wrong with the paella, and refused to take more than 20% off the meal. They gas lighted us and acted as if we were throwing a tantrum. I have had excellent paella, and eat seafood regularly. I know the difference and when seafood isn't fresh. Again, we just had the appetizers and a bottle of wine for which they charged us 90+ euros!!!!. Didn't have dinner or the rest of the pre fix. Can you believe it? What a tourist trap! Stay away! They tried to fix the situation by offering cava to get us drunk, but what we needed was some dinner and I would have appreciated a fair price for what we actually ate. It certainly shouldn't have been a whopping 90+ euros for a few appetizers and wine. To be fair, they offered for us to come back the next day to "do it over" after we made a fuss. I will never go back, it's a shame because the views of Barcelona st the restaurant are beautiful. Management needs to learn customer service. And whoever is cooking the paella, fire them. Martinez was relatively close to many tourist destinations (such as Montjuic) and was a great venue for outdoor dining (pictured). Surrounded by beautiful views, walks, gardens, and monuments. My party of five ordered a large vat of vegetable paella (five kinds of mushroom, artichoke; pictured). It was very good, a little soupy, but delicious. We all at several portions. We all ordered several drinks, mainly Aperol Spritz and some margaritas which were of good quality (pictured). We also split calamari and croquettes (both pictured). Our party ate croquettes at every restaurant we visited in Spain, and these were among the best. The calamari was amazing-- incredibly thick and fresh. Though the restaurant was pricier than some, it was not unreasonable for a classier restaurant. The biggest caveat to our stay at Martinez was the service. Our waiter was somewhat rude and became visibly frustrated when one of our guests inquired about cross-contamination, as she is highly allergic to shellfish. Though this was a disappointing, this likely could have been avoided should we have had a different server. Overall, would go again if we were in the area, but would not go out of my way to eat again (though one visit was worth it). read more

The best part of this restaurant is the view and their outdoor seating is a very cute set up as well. It's not easy to get to this place, but the view is worth it. A taxi ride costs around 20 euros. Their known for their paella, but I didn't fancy it. It may have been a more traditional type paella, but it wasn't very flavorful to me. Their sangria cava was the best one we've had though. It was pink colored and tasted more sweeter. The dessert wasn't to die for, but their hazelnut ice cream was creamy. Their croquettes were different from all the other ones we've had. They were served in a ball. I'm not sure I'd recommend this place only because it's not in a convenient location and the food is just blah to make the trip. The view though is spectacular. read more

Five minute delay to set up the table, only to be taken to an empty row of five or six tables--ones that sat empty for much of the next hour, some filled with four and some with two (as were we). Menu dropped, another twenty-five minutes to see a waiter, but not the wine list. But the food did not wait. They must have started cooking the shrimp the moment we crossed the threshold as it was mushy and tasteless, swimming in a sea of pretty neutral oil. The "rice" dish is not paella. No effort at soccarat other than serving it in a metal dish with some crust at its edges, unrelated to the preparation of our rice. The rice was a reheated, overly salted base for five perfectly but separately cooked of pork assembled on top (hence the star here). Front desk was pleasant at entry and exit. High prices, poor service, cafeteria quality food don't justify the view. There are equally good views all over Barcelona, e.g., Montjuic itself, where this restaurant is. Avoid this place! Absolutely some of the worst service I have had while traveling. This place is a tourist trap that seated us in the worst spot after we made reservations months in advance. We asked to change to a seat with a view* (the only reason to come to this place) and they said it was fully booked after giving us attitude. So we walked out. Tourist trap - an establishment that has been created or re-purposed with the aim of attracting tourists and their money for sub-par quality at very high prices. Aka. Martinez. I'm so grateful this was not my only stop to eat the paella of Barcelona or this would a serious crime. Up high in the hills above Barcelona and looking over the amazing Mediterranean sea, Martinez sits among the gorgeous parks and sports areas of the Olympics. It's view is stunning... it's price tag for terrible food and slow service is equally stunning. Do not mistake this for good food... avoid at all costs or you'd feel stupid like we did when we had our wonderful tour guide drop us off here and say its very good food. At nearly $40 Euros per person BEFORE wine, we had terrible oversalted and soupy paella with the most measley portions of real meat in it. Check out the wonderful paella I had at Somorrostro and you'll see a night and day difference. The crazy thing... Somorrostro was nearly $6 Euros cheaper for 5 times the amount of seafood. I would say nothing here was worth... even the view. Perhaps if you're super desperate and dying for a beer, you could stop in to rest from the heat and watch the beautiful waves below but there are far far better places for food. read more

ALSO- Our table for 2 was in an awkward place and there were tons of ants by the plants next to us. Left feeling super queasy but also itchy because of all the ants. Also refused to let us order paella for 1 person because there's a minimum of 2 people - but note the price on the menu is only for 1 person. If you are coming here, it's just for the view. The food was subpar. To wit: I ordered a steak, and was very clear to cook it medium rare. It arrives, of course, pretty much well done. I send it back, and the waitress brings it back and says "the chef says this IS medium rare" (the very center was a little bit red; what a joke). Are you f^#king kidding me?
