The views from the dinner tables are unbelievable. If they offer you a table with a view take it. You might wait a little longer but it's well worth it. I went with my sister and they sat us side by side at a table on the balcony. We were both able to enjoy an unobstructed view of night time skyline. It's Barcelona, so you shouldn't expect snappy service. They take their time here. It is also very expensive compared to the rest of Barcelona but comparable to a nice restaurant in the U.S. We ordered the paella for 2 which left us "thanksgiving full" and a bottle of wine. We came here for out last meal and thanks to some sun after a few days of rain we were able to sit outside finally. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful view of the seaport. Very good paella and fideua. Very good starters, mussels, Russian salad, and croquetas with jamon Serrano. House white wine is refreshing and the facilities are clean. Staff is super friendly, worth the wait and also be prepared to wait and not be annoyed by it. read more

Arrived a little before six without a reservation. Friendly greetings from the hostess, but the attitude and service of the male waiters was terrible. We were told that we could be seated near the view of the harbor when the table had been cleaned. 15 minutes later, nothing had happened, so we went and sat there and moved the dirty linens, waiting for service. When a waiter finally showed up, he had attitude. We ordered drinks and he took away the menus without asking us if we wanted to order tapas. I had to go look for him to get the menus back. You would think they would want us to order food. There were multiple waiters who served us at one time or another - all very poorly. The waiter who took our order handed off his table to another waiter (but didn't let us know that it was happening). A cat wandered onto the grounds, and was being petted and fed by other patrons. When s/he wandered to my table, I petted it and put my dish on the ground (which I probably should not have) so s/he could lick it and the first waiter reappeared and yelled at me in Spanish - which, of course I understood. Nobody else was chastised for doing the same, and there could have been a more polite way of communicating the same information. Then, when we were finished with our meal, the second waiter had disappeared and the first waiter came with the bill without asking if we wanted dessert. We had to ask for dessert menus, which prompted an 'oops' facial reaction. As to the food: the esqueixada de bacalao, mejillones con tomate fresco y guindilla, jamon de Belltrans Julian Martin, and ensaladilla rusa "Bar El Manolo" were very good, as was the lemon pie served a la parfait. But the poor service marred what could have been an excellent way to end the day. We inquired with the hostess about getting a taxi to take us down the hill after we walked around the grounds - and again, she was very helpful, offering to call one for us, and informing us that we could catch one in front of the Hotel Miramar too. Such diametrically opposite service attitudes by the females vs. the males from a restaurant which was highly recommended to us by a Catalan native millennial hipster for the view as well as the food. read more

It's a seafood restaurant but they also serve meat. I said I was vegetarian so they mostly just gave me a lot of rice, and roast vegetables. Others in the group had lobster, tuna sashimi and mixed seafood grill. I think it's ok but Spain has much more distinctive culinary experiences and this felt touristic. Delicious! Last night in Barcelona we took a chance and went to Martinez without a reservation. They quickly made a table to accommodate us. My husband like to customize his mojitos and they were the only restaurant in Barcelona to custom make his mojito. Sparkling Cava was very refreshing. I was charged almost 70 euros for a piece of beef that was 70% inedible because of how fatty it was not to mention the 3 pieces that were edible were blue from being so raw even though I ordered it medium. The manager reduced the charge after I made multiple complaints. The view was great but not worth the money and the bathroom visits the following day. I'm a little confused by the reviews calling this place a tourist trap. We decided to try this place on a recommendation from an email from The Food Lovers tapas tour and were a little concerned about the reviews we read here. That being said we were greeted promptly, given a table, and provided with excellent service throughout. The bomba and croquette were both to die for and the sauce for the seafood casserole was amazing. Dessert was also great- the Cuban chocolate and the crema Catalunya were heavenly. We were provided with a great wine recommendation as well. Can I imagine that the service might be slower during peak season-yes; but I still would recommend this as a fancy dinner out in Barcelona. I'd suggest planning to go after touring Montjuïc, otherwise it's a bit of a schlep. read more

This was a great find! We came upon it by riding the sky car from Barceloneta. E a ordered oysters, green salad, and the rabbit and chicken paella. The oysters were fresh, plump and juicy. On the way down from Montjuic Castle, next to the Miramar hotel, Martinez is a local institution. The restaurants is surrounded by a large terrace with views over the Barcelona harbor. Its specialty is paella. It offers many different kind of paellas in function of the rice and protein selected. We opted for a seafood paella and were not disappointed. Terrible food. Terrible service. The waiter dumped the raw blood from the improperly cooked steak on me and ruined my brand new dress shirt. They brought me a pail of water to clean the shirt, but even the dry cleaners could not save the shirt. The steak had the consistency of a rubber tire, and I was not able to cut it. My friend ordered stew of halibut, and received a full sea bass with the head and teeth almost a half an hour after the rest of the entrées arrived. View and location are the top highlights which is not good for a restaurant, rice quality clearly under average for spain, we ordered rice with calamari and artichoke, artichoke was missing due to 'out of season' but no previous notice. In my opinion there isn't really anything good about this restaurant besides the view. The paella my party ordered doesn't even deserve to be called mediocre. It was way too salty and very little of it; they just put it in a large pan to make it look like there was a lot. By the time our long awaited steaks arrived, I soon found that it was so undercooked it could still be roaming in a field, mooing. It was their so called version of "medium." When sent back, the manager angrily told us that "the steak would be ready in 3 minutes" after waiting an hour. The only reason why these monstrosities were not put on our bill was because one of my party members started raising their voice, demanding it to be taken off. This was honestly one of my worst restaurant experiences. I would save my money for a restaurant worth more of my time. I would give it half a star or less if I could. read more

My husband and I went there on the first night of our honeymoon. The restaurant has a great view and the service was good. I have been to this place because of a webpost. When I got there the receptionist Mida (I am sure this is a false name) did not allow me to have a table. In the post it did not mention the need for reservation. It is a simple place, it does not look like some special place to be booked in advance. There were empty tables and couples that arrived after me could have a table without any previous booking. The waiter's chief ( Carlo and after said that his catalan name was John) came and he did not let me get inside too. I could see they were uncomfortable with my presence because I was a Brazilian woman on my own at the restaurant 15:45 in the afternoon. So I called for the manager, and this one told me to wait for 10 minutes that he would get me a table! After 30 minutes waiting, I get a table and I could order a paella and sangria. I paid for it and I have decided that I should do a formal complaint about the treatment I have suffered when I arrived there. I asked for the official complaint form, At that time, another different manager came out of the blue. He was rude and told me to call the police if I was not happy. I called the police and they came but no document of ocurrence was done. They just told me to search for the gencat.cat. It is something clear that this Martinez restaurant through its receptionist, waiter's chief and manager treat foregneirs and women with prejudice. HORRIBLE STAY!!!! It was our last evening in Barcelona and we looked for a Restaurant with a nice view. The shock came with the dessert, we ordered three "Crema Catalana". All of them tasted burned and you could also smell the smoke. So we gave it back and they immediately offered us new desserts and two of us ordered something new. After a while the waitress came back and told us that the chef said the cremes are ok. But it was clear for us that because of the new dessert ect the cremes are not to pay. When we ordered the bill we found 15 Euros for 3 Creme Catalana on it, but that was not ok. So we paid just one of them. When they recognized we won't pay the other two a very rude and unfriendly Lady who did the management came to our table and screamed that she found the cremes good and we have to pay for them! When we refused the lady ran away and wanted to call the Police and closed the entrance. We found that very over the top and were shocked about their unfriendly and not accommodating behaviour. At least we payed then ... We never expierienced something like this before!!! So the service is really bad the people are rude and the food is not that good for the high prices !! Because of the location you can only go there by taxi and when we left they didn't call us a taxi and we had to walk down in the city !! The view is the only good thing left!! read more

After walking up the mountain visiting the gardens, what better thing to do then go for a drink after walking in the sweltering heat. We arrived when the receptionist was busy on the phone and I had seen they have other locations as I took their name cards. When the receptionist got off the phone we were told in a cocky manner at the entrance that they were not at bar and that we had to order food, we came soon after brunch so we weren't that hungry. We decided to stay and ordered a lobster which was suggested by the waiter and I have to say that this was the biggest rip off and disappointment in my life. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would recommend that Martinez allow and accept guests who are looking for small bites and drinks. . Your receptionist doesn't realize that he is not only turning down two covers but actually 8 as it would have been nice to try the other locations.
