Our Gang of 6 returned to Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint. I enjoyed the tasty and tender brisket sandwich with a Wiseacre Brewing's Tiny Bomb brewski. The side order of BBQ Beans was WAY over-salted; I should have sent it back. Others enjoyed their Smoked Bologna and Pulled-pork Sandwiches You walk up to place your order, and your food is promptly delivered to your table. Simple décor. My gripe is the system to buy beer. After the first beer, you must leave your table, return to bar area, place your 2nd order, and go thru another transaction. Beer selection is very good. Outdoor seating unless too hot or cold. Good value. Good for groups. Open daily. Private parking area. They cater as well. read more

Here's the thing about traveling with someone you've known for a long time and who's known you a long time; they can tell you when you fall into bad habits. One of the worst habits I have is I have pretty noticeable FOMO when it comes to bbq joints. After a fairly sizable meal of hot chicken and sides, and after a good-sized concrete mixer after, I should've taken it easy with a smaller dinner. I should've followed Toby's example and gotten that fried bologna sandwich here I wanted to try. Instead, my lizard brain kicked in and I went after the spare ribs and smoked chicken that I normally would've gotten had it been any other day. I just can't see myself going to a place known for whole hog bbq and opting for a sandwich. It's like traveling with a beautiful girl who's into you and choosing to just settle for walks to first. Nobody has that kind of restraint. Ribs are just too good. And Martin's ribs, like the other greats like Joe's KC, Pappy's, Montgomery Inn, and Fat Bob's is not something you give up on once you're there. And what's worse is that Martin's actually gave me 7 ribs with the combo I ordered. Add to that the smoked 1/4 chicken, the 3 bread slices, the kickass beans, and a decent mac n' cheese and you have a recipe for busting a gut in trying to eat most of your plate. The service was good, even if they didn't check on me as much as I would've liked. When I asked for refills and a box for the table, they were prompt and courteous about it. That's what matters. Not only that they offered the refills for the road like a good restaurant does so you can tell they care about treating their customers well in other ways. The ambiance was good. It definitely made me want to sit in there again. And maybe this time I get the fried bologna instead and Toby gets the heavier plate and sighs incredulously all night about how she's a dead woman due to gluttony. I don't know--I don't think it's a true bbq feast for the ages until someone one complains they might die happy due to excessive barbecue. read more

The smell from the parking lot brought us in, but the mound of brisket fat from the $24 Brisket Tray will ensure we don't return anytime soon However, our server has Justin come to our table with some extra brisket and took the time to make sure we didn't have this issue again. On the plus side, the BBQ Beans were tasty, and the Mac-n-cheese was more of a light & cheesy consistency vs a creamy "kraft" style. The hoe-cake tasted more like a fried pancake instead of cornbread. I personally prefer the one from New Moon BBQ. I live in the suburbs of Chicago. My brother and my sister in law live in the area. 2 years ago on our way back from the Jack Daniel's distillery we stopped and had lunch. I had the brisket burger. It was amazing. I ate it so fast I had to look up the place when I got home to see if there was a burger patty on there too, and there was. Now in July of 2026 I went back and had the same thing. Still amazing. The next day I went back and bought a bottle of sauce and a hat. As I was walking out a lady from Atlanta asked if I had the brisket. I said I only had the brisket burger and it's amazing. That peaked her interest too so hopefully she went in. Until next time martins, I can't wait to eat your food again. read more

I am surprised this spot is not rated higher because I thought the food was phenomenal! We ordered Uber Eats from here for a work lunch - so I cannot comment on the service or the interior. I had the half BBQ chicken with two sides ($22 or something on Uber Eats) and it was marvelous - the chicken was huge and flavorful. The broccoli and potato salad I picked as sides were also fresh, homemade, and delicious. They have a variety of sauces for you to choose from, all great for dipping. We started eating at the DT Nashville location which has tons of history and character then switched to here for convenience. This place still has a cool vibe. We all know about the BBQ, it's great. But the hidden in plan sight gem is the burger and house made fries. Check out my photo. Meat is smashed and caramelized at the edges, literally meat candy! The bun is gorgeous as well as tasty and up to the task. It's the opposite of a dry Red Robin bun. Look at those fries! Very similar to Five Guys but cheaper. I would have loved to have taken pictures but it was too good to stop eating. I had the pulled pork sandwich combo and omg... I will get this again. I got the sauce on the side to try it since I've never been here before. Im used to traditional BBQ and NC BBQ so this definitely hit the homesick button. The meat was so tender, no fat, just deliciousness. I tried the sauce and it was really good on the sandwich. Sauce was, to me, a good mix of a little vinegar from NC and some tomato base from up north. So good!!! I went through the driver thru and the guys were super nice. read more

Beware. My gift cards were overcharged. You don't get a real receipt and can't see the extra, but once confronted and reviewed, they fixed the 'error.' Place has really gone downhill. It not okay to serve barely warm and not crispy fries, then when asked to fix, send out disgustingly over seasoned fries as punishment. The chain is good, but this location stinks. Another update. Tried it again today to see if they had improved. The inexperienced staff at the counter had us pretty worried that our order would not be correct. They got the order right! The burger was just ok. The coleslaw is pretty gross. It's like eating cabbage out of a puddle of melted vanilla ice cream. Nasty. Too sweet. Felt dirty in there. Looking into the kitchen while ordering made me second guess even ordering. Not clean looking. The smoke from the smoker was a bit overwhelming in the dining area. I had a headache all afternoon from it. Never going back. The Belmont location continues to be the better location. MJ location needs a complete redo. Not cozy or welcoming at all. read more

I went to Martin's with high hopes. The food overall was just OK. The Brunswick stew was good with lots of veggies and solid flavor. The brisket was also very good with a flavorful BBQ sauce. It is a clean and typical cafeteria BBQ layout. Service was fine, but the food was pretty mediocre. Brisket was underdone and a little chewy, but decent flavor. The wet ribs ribs were full of cartilage and were not cut through, and we got the overdone end rib as one of the 4. The inner ribs in the middle of the bones were good. The Mac n cheese was tired looking and dried out, but was tasty in the middle. The pulled pork had excellent flavor, but was undercooked and a little firm. There weren't many customers on Monday night but the restaurant still has to deliver fresh and satisfying food. A 3 star rating was generous in this case. read more

I walked in at 6:40pm and was not greeted. I noticed other people came in and were but didn't care really. Just an observation worth mentioning from my perspective. I love Martin's from previous years and experiences in Nolensville TN. I moved away from the area eight years ago to GA and was excited to see that there was one right down the street from where I was staying here in Mount Juliet. I expected the same level of food and service, but unfortunately, I did not receive that. I ordered the four bone rib combo in which you got two sides. I remember the ribs being tender and moist. What I received tonight was so horrible that I could only eat half of the rib. The Meaty part was so dry and tough, I couldn't even enjoy it. I'm disappointed but too tired from a long day of work to go back up there to report it. Plus with not greeting me, they probably wouldn't care. Usually, we have a good time here. The staff is friendly and the food is decent. In our last two visits, however, we have noticed a steep decline in our experience. On both occasions, they were out of almost every protein on the menu (and this was around 7 PM). While I understand that production and demand are not always going to match up, I am disappointed that such a quality brand and community pillar is always out of ribs, brisket, etc. read more

It smells WONDERFUL walking in here. Food wise - dry ribs are fantastic. Great size, perfectly cooked, great flavor. Chicken- not bad, just not my preference being on the bone. Wish I had asked and not assumed it was chopped. Pulled pork - SOLID. The table vinegar bbq sauce is awesome and perfect pair with this. Potato salad - great portion and flavor. Coleslaw - meh. Sweet, more vinegary- not my preference Hush puppies. Ohhhh sadness. So excited to see these on the menu. BUT - These were terrible! Hoping just an off batch. Super greasy & burnt. Beer only on adult bevs. Nice tap selection. It's a big place to be a counter order. Sat at a table 5 minutes before seeing the order spot since it looks like a table service place. This was my first time going to Martin's and I went to the Mt Juliet location [apparently there's multiple]. When I first got in, I took my time reading the wall menu. It wasn't busy at the time I went - maybe there were another 5 tables munching away. I got up to the front attendant and told him it was my first time so I didn't really know how it all worked. *cue a blank stare in return* Okaaaayyy...so I asked about the quarter chicken and the two sides. I got minimal feedback and just a "it comes with two sides". Alrighty then. So I got the chicken with the two sides and one additional side. I figured I'd bring the leftovers to work with me. After the cashier was done he placed the number in front of me and we just stared at each other. So I asked, do I just move to the side? Pick a place? Wait for my number to be called? I got the small reply of sit anywhere. Okie dokie. So I just moseyed on and picked a little two-top table. * Some direction upon walking in would have been lovely. Yes, yes...poor me and not being able to figure it all out. But no one welcomed me in, no one asked if I needed help. And TRUST... I know I looked confused! It made my anxiety ratch up and I seriously considered walking out. The food? Meh. EVERYTHING was tepid and barely just this side of warm. I hate cold food when it is supposed to be hot and inviting! So I got the quarter chicken with slaw and mac with an additional side of beans. Knowing this was my first time, someone could have given me the heads up about there being extra stuff in the beans. I'm still not sure what it all was...peppers? Bacon? The chicken was okay. Not the best but not the worst. Again, served lukewarm. The hot sauce though! The guy who brought my plate gave me the BEST hot sauce to dip everything into. I asked for the hottest and that was what I got! At least something could warm me up! I would have liked a beer to wash it down, but wasn't sure if it was an option. When I asked about drinks the boy just pointed tot he soda fountain. No up charge work going on here. The restaurant was clean and I could see how it could be a fun and comfy place to come eat. The reviews are all over the place for this Martin's, but my experience at this location was great. First off, if you haven't already tried it, order the Brisket Burger. This was monster was delicious! A soft bun, grilled onions, tender brisket, pimento cheese, and a huge juicy burger patty. I don't think I was ready for this to be so good. The flavors were awesome and I loved the grilled onions with the brisket, such a great combo. The sides were good, but the Mac n cheese was lacking a flavor. The baked beans were the star of the show, very tasty and I loved the chunks of pork in each bite. My wife's brisket plate was good, but it was a tad on the dry side. Nothing that some BBQ can't help. All-in-all, the food was solid and we came at a great time. About 2pm just after the lunch rush, no wait and the food was out in about five or so minutes. read more

The beef brisket looked too fatty at Martins for my taste, as I like it very lean. So, I ordered a chicken sandwich. It really isn't a chicken breast sandwich; as it is just three chicken tenders on a bun (for over $13). Chick-fil-A is far better for half the price. They do have bbq chicken on a plate but not on a bun which is odd. In a bbq place I'd like to see a chicken bbq sandwich on their menu.
