What a pleasant surprise, this non descript little building is. The bbq pulled pork sandwich I ordered with no coleslaw and no sauce. The meat held its own; juicy, smoky but not liquid smoke, a natural hint. The potato salad was delicious, lots of potatoes, not too much or too little Mayo. The banana pudding was delicious with vanilla wafers and slices of banana. The service in the drive thru was fast and friendly! Overall a really good meal for a really good price. read more

I can't believe that this place has such a low star rating! My family has been getting the pulled pork family pack from here for the past 20+ years and have always loved it Well a year or so ago my wife picked up a rack of ribs on some friends suggestion and I don't know why we hadn't had them before but we get them now once a week if not every other week and when my boys come home you can guarantee we are picking up a couple racks! So damn good! I haven't read any reviews but if it's not about the barbecue, ignore it and just go through the drive through and pick up some of the best Wings/Ribs/pulled pork and slaw anywhere! read more

Pulled pork was a bit dry & didn't have much flavor. Requires a lot of bbq sauce to moisten it up. I paid a couple of dollars extra for the cornbread, but it went dry and flavorless. Potato salad was average, but certainly not bad. Service was friendly and prompt. In TN there is a lot of competition w/ BBQ, and this was on the lower tier. Came here a few times when we got to town and the first 2 times we had a great experience the older lady was helpful and so we got the 2 sandwich combos both times no problem and came out to the same amount each time. This last time we came in and it there was a younger girl who was very rude from the moment we got up to the window we said what we wanted and she is like we don't have those as combos so I'll just charge you for them each separately and I was like you do because we just got these same meals 2 nights ago and its right here on your menu. And she proceeded to give us attitude and so we are like you know what never mind and so we left. We went to a different location and had no issue ordering the same exact thing and came out to the same price as it always does. The sandwich combos are good, leaves you full for hours, and have alot of flavorful meat. The potato salad is pretty good too. Sadly this bbq restaurant was pretty bad. We ordered brisket, chicken, and some sides (Mac n cheese, beans, and potato salad). The brisket was so dry and had zero flavor. The chicken was just average tasting. The sides were incredibly small and tasted like from a can or box. The bbq sauce also wasn't very good. It was also very $$ for the little amount of food too. I've got to raise the star count on this one. Yes, Whitt's appears to be a chain within central Tennessee, but this is southern BBQ at its best! This location is not glamorous, nor is it big. There are only 12 tables in the place and apparently on Wednesday they have a sandwich special and the line is out the door. The menu is standard BBQ fare (pulled pork, beef, turkey, ribs and chicken), with nothing unique that I could see. I had a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and pickles on it (as God said it should be done) and I used a mixture of their BBQ sauce and the vinegar "sauce". Yum yum yum. It was so good I had to have another. And at $2.75, why not!?! I think the other review must have just caught them on a bad day. One sign that this place is good is the number of locals who either come in to get take-out, or the fact that they drive-through window was as busy as any McD's I've seen! p.s. this is not a quick stop right off I-40. While driving across country we stopped in Lebanon, TN and decided to try Whitt's BBQ thinking it looked like a good local barbecue shop. The service was great. Fast, friendly, and with a smile. Also, great prices. However, the food was subpar. We both got the pulled pork, so maybe they have another specialty, but it tasted like the pork was just boiled and salted. Their sauce was really good but you can't soak poorly done meat in great sauce and expect it to taste good. Overall we were very dissapointed with the food. read more

Let me just say, other restaurants could learn the true meaning of the word "Service" from Whitts BBQ. Not to mention the fact that their Loaded BBQ baked potato might be my favorite thing on earth when it comes to food! My family and I went to Whitts in Lebanon today for lunch. When I got home with our order I realized I had not got BBQ sauce. We called the number on line and explained what had happened. Most restaurants would say "Come back and we'll give it to you" not Whitts! The man who answered the pgone (I assume he was the owner) explained that you normally have to order the sauce, but he was about to leave home to head to the restaurant and he would be more than happy to drop some BBQ sauce off for us, at our home! About 15 minutes later this sweet, extremely apologetic man dropped off our sauce.. Ladies and Gentlemen, that is the definition of service! good service. However, the BBQ left a lot to be desired. Being from Texas where BBQ is an art, I was expecting something good. What I received was rump roast pulled beef...pulled pork , ok but PULLED BEEF? If I had wanted chopped beef....you get the point. Also, no smoky flavor at all. Then I also got the pork ribs. They were a St Louis style rib. They had a stale taste and again no smoky flavor. I left about half of each meat cause they weren't that good. By the time I got to Knoxville I had to get a room for the night cause my stomach was doing flip flops from one of the meats...I think it was the ribs. If you aren't aware of Whitt's amazing barbecue, you are seriously missing out. It is delicious. My experience with my children today was amazing. These people are incredibly kind. The lady who took our order rang it up differently than I ordered it just so I would have a cheaper bill. The lady then told us that she was leaving for the day and that if we needed anything, one of the boys who were working would take care of us. Boy, did they. These are young boys about high school age.. but these are the kind of kids you want your children to be like when they grow up. Kind, courteous, helpful. Yes, Ma'am, No Ma'am. Such manners. Just walked in to place an order. Was completely ignored by the male staff member at the counter. We looked at the menu, he walked away and when he FINALLY returned he walked to the drive through window and started chatting with the person there. So, we left. Our first time there and it will be our last. There are plenty of BBQ restaurants around with much better service. Recommend the manager retrain their staff. read more

This was a disgrace to Southern barbeque. I ordered a Family plate, so I'm expecting a small sampling of meat or at least two kinds. Yes, I should have clarified first so I won't blame them all the way for that. However, what I will blame them for is that abysmal thing that they call coleslaw. It tasted like they just pored a bucket of vinegar and a pound of sugar on some shredded cabbage. There was not claw sauce, there was no seasoning. It was so disgusting that it hurt my feeling that someone would even try to give that to a customer. Then there was a pint of pull pork. Do you know what they gave with it? A small container of meat juice. Not barbeque sauce but salty leftover meat juice. The pork was not even flavorful. Beef barbecue has been my go to for years. Obviously it isn't popular and has been taken off most locations menu. After discovering this location still sold it I made a special trip to purchase two pounds. What a disappointment! Something was definitely wrong with it. After it was placed in the refrigerator, the sides of the container caved in like there was a vacuum seal of some sort. When I open the lid, the beef looked strange. I could not pull the meat apart with a fork! It looked old and had alot of white streaks running through it! I'm guessing this meat had been frozen for a long time before selling it.
