3.5 in a real scale- Went here to get a cocktail. Cool historical tavern. Looks storybook on the outside. I was shocked at the pricing and the service taxes tacked on from the get go. Had two Guinness from the tap and they totally hit the spot. The food did not look stellar, but I cannot speak on the taste. A good spot to check for history. Bring your wallet full, just to say you went, but I would not return due to the pricing.

A 4+ for incredible service. I really wish we got our waiter's name because it was the friendliest service I've had in a while. We were seated in booth #1 side by side. Cool to sit in a historic place. Food was good. I had a beet salad with salmon and my husband had the hash. Good Bloody Mary. Even better beer. Try the dunkle.

I had such a wonderful experience at Martin's Tavern. I was afraid this would be one of those spots where the food/service don't match up to a unique ambiance, but I was so pleased that dining at Martin's Tavern was a top-notch experience across the board. On a cold and rainy night, the Shepard's Pie was perfect. I really enjoyed the use of lamb in their version! My party was sitting outside under the awning, and as the rain picked up, the service staff courteously ushered us inside and gave us a tour of all of the notable booths inside! What really set them apart was when we were given an umbrella to take home, to ensure we didn't get too wet walking to our Uber. The kindness of the staff from the beginning of our meal to the end of the experience was truly unparalleled.

Let me preface this by saying that we live in NYC, so we're used to amazing food spots. The history behind the tavern is great; surely a relic. Food-wise, it's fairly decent, but not great. I had the fish and chips, meh. My wife had the beef stew, and that was very tasty. Almost all three stars go to the bread pudding, that was really good. Overall, cool to check it out once, but def not a repeat spot.

What an awesome place. We felt like we stepped into Brigadoon. Super packed on a Sunday night we walked in and sat at the bar by a stroke of luck as two people had just left. We talked to everyone around us and the bartender was awesome. We were going to have dinner next door so we didn't eat here, but the menu looked great, will definitely try next time. Martinis were perfect. Will definitely come back.

It was OK, the prices are very high, they don't like taking contactless payment and instead sort of demand that you give them the actual card. Which was kind of BS because the payment terminal they are holding in their hands accepts contactless payments. So I think it's a little bit of a scam.. Shady business. The minimum tip is already set to 20%, so I'm not entirely sure how honest they are about things. The food was pretty good, Definitely not worth the price, but it was tasty. There's a bit of stuff on the menu about service charges, and operation cost, and at the end of the day, I just don't care. If you can't afford to pay your employees, you really shouldn't be in business. I don't plan to go back. Too much funny business with the pricing.

I went on a Wednesday this month. I was seated in the rumble seat, right inside the door, seating for 2 or in this case 1. The place was pretty busy for middle of the week. I'm looking over the menu and beer list and decide on the 1933 Pilsner. Most DC brau beers are pretty good. I'm in the mood for steak...I decide upon the NY Strip. The waiter politely informs me they're out of NY Strip. Ok...Let me look some more at the menu. I finally decide on the fish and chips. I'm working on the beer, casually watching the TVs above the bar. Lots of people milling around... I get a 1933 refill and after a bit my fish and chips arrives. I have never seen fish and chips like this. Two small pieces of fish and a bunch of fries. The fish is a bit greasy...but ok. The fries are still hot and crispy. Then dipping sauce (which I thought was tarter) was something different. Not sure what fish and chips comes with besides tarter sauce...maybe it's an acquired taste. Anyway dinner was still pretty good. Hopefully next time they will have steak.

The music was great, playing plenty of hits from the 2010s, and the service was fantastic! Everyone was friendly and accommodating, an easy 5/5 for service. The bathrooms were not the cleanest, but the restaurant itself was well maintained. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I ordered the American burger, and the beef tasted a bit off. The patty was not fully smashed and tasted overcooked. It was also dry, I had to dip every bite in ketchup. The sauce inside was bland, and overall, the burger lacked flavor and texture. The side salad, however, was fantastic! The arugula was fresh and generously portioned, and the dressing was delicious. But I didn't order a burger just to enjoy the side salad more than the main dish. With such a small menu and burgers making up a significant portion of it, this was a bit disappointing. The service and atmosphere were great, but the burger itself really missed the mark for me.

I've been on a shakshuka kick lately, so I opted for the the Sweet Potato Shakshuka, which is described as: Sweet Potato Curry, with Chickpeas and Sunny Eggs with a the chicken add-on - gotta get that protein in, after all. This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

My daughter had the wild mushrooms burger and she loved it -- the aioli had the perfect tang to go with the mushroom and Swiss, both burgers were cooked perfectly medium as requested. The old fashioned was just your typical old fashioned with a slice of candied bacon attached to the outside of the glass. We were hoping for something smokier and a little different but it was still a very good Old Fashioned. We shared the chocolate mousse and it was perfection. Yum! We were sat in the solarium area, and it was during the heat dome, and it was really warm in there. Otherwise, though, it's completely charming inside and reminds us of some of the best French bistros we've been to in the country (e.g. Balzathar, Le Supreme). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. Four stars, and we have already declared that we will be back again to "The Dip" because there is so much else on the menu that we want to try.
