I had been putting off dealing with the scratch because the last time i had a fender bender issue and had to go through insurance with an auto body shop, I'd had a bad experience with the rental car company they used trying to pin me with a ticket that wasn't mine, and long crazy story unrelated here. I had gone back to the same auto body shop (because it appeared they did a good job and they were very nice people, rental car not really their fault). But even though, to me it looked like a smaller job, they told to me it would be another biggish job, reaching into near $5000 to repair with panels, bumper, and paint repair, where I'd need a rental car co again so i had put it off, for fear of using rental car co, plus i have a $1000 deductible (ouch). To make a long story shorter i came into Downtown auto, upon referral, and met with a very nice guy, Martin. He took a look at my scratches and actually buffed them all out on the spot! (wow!) and gave me a bid to fix my front bumper for less than my deductible so i wouldn't even need to go through the insurance and rent a car! Plus, he said it'd be done in like 2 hours. I made the appointment and can't wait to update this review further. Btw, it's a comfortable waiting area, with nice glass viewing windows to see what's going on with your ride. And if you need to make a Costco run that day? It's conveniently located right across the street!

This company specializes in diesel fuel injection systems, and they are better at that than anyone…read moreelse. I have heard about in the 44 years that I've lived in this county. They are expensive, but they really know those systems so I took my truck to them to have the fuel injection, system investigated and repaired. They charge one hour labor for doing that, which I approved. They did their investigation and told me what needed to be done to the fuel injection system. they also told me that I had a bad water pump that would be an $1800 repair, and that I had hydraulic leak in my steering/brake system and gave me a price for that as well. I had just had the truck at another Mechanic who had replaced the power steering pump, one of the power, steering hoses, and the power steering booster. They told me that there were signs of leaking from the water pump, and also from the power steering and to get everything fixed was gonna be more than double what the Fuel system repairs were going to cost, so I told him to go ahead with the fuel system repairs and deferred the rest of the work until later. I'm pretty sure that they would've done everything they quoted and replace a lot of parts to complete the work that I held off on. When I got my truck back, I asked what testing they had done to be sure that I had a bad water pump and other items. I was told that their mechanic saw signs of coolant and oil under the hood, and that it left drips on the floor where they parked my truck. I had informed them in advance that the steering had been worked on and that I had not yet pressure washed the engine, but they were insistent that they were very qualified and careful, and that all the other work needed to be done because things were leaking. I purchased a new OEM water pump for in preparation to have it installed, BUT I have driven the truck now for a couple of months without replacing that pump, and have NOT seen a single drop of coolant or oil on the floor of my garage or on the engine. I did call them back to double check on the problem with the water pump and asked if they had performed an industry standard pressure test on the cooling system. It took several days for them to get back to me, and I was told that they didn't need to do that because their mechanics know what they're doing, if their mechanics say something is bad, then it's bad. I feel they should've pressure, tested the cooling system, and they should've cleaned the residual oil off of everything before claiming there were leaks, Particularly because I told them hydraulic system work had just been completed the previous day and I had not pressure washed the engine compartment. As a former auto shop teacher, I have some insight into auto repairs, and even though they are experts in diesel fuel systems where I have little expertise, I know plenty about cooling systems and hydraulic systems. I'm very comfortable with the diesel injection work that they did on my truck, I am getting about 6 miles per gallon more fuel economy than before their work. They completed the work in a timely manner, for the price they quoted, and that I approved, so I'm comfortable with the bill that I paid. I'm glad I did not authorize thousands of dollars for the additional work that was, and still is unnecessary. I'm uncomfortable with them trying to sell me expensive and unnecessary repairs on other things that they did not investigate thoroughly, and the inaccurate investigation that they charged me for.

He took it to All Around Auto and they were able to diagnose the problem quickly. It was clear we'd have to rent him a car to drive home in and leave mine there as parts needed to be ordered and our vehicle was not first in line (they of course had other customers!). It took a week to get the parts and then a day to install the new fuel line. They were communicative and helpful thru the entire experience. My son uses Charlie for all of his automotive needs so I took my truck to him to fix the window. I also had a broken fan that I figured id have him fix as well as a sensor that needed to be replaced. After leaving the truck there, Charlie noticed that there was a small leak so did a pressure test on the water pump, and there was a leak. We had him replace that just to be safe. But here is the kicker... A couple months back the truck started making a rattling noise so we took it to Ford. They told us it was the transmission and that to diagnose it, they would have to take it apart. Thats a lot of money just to find the problem. We decided not to do that just yet (because I didnt have an arm and a leg to spare) but it turns out the noise was coming from the water pump and not from the transmission at all. We would have been out so much money just for them to not even fix the problem, because no one mentioned that it could be coming from the water pump. So not only was Charlie honest and reasonably priced, but he saved us from making an expensive mistake. Also, with everything that we needed done I was expecting not to have my truck for at least a week, but it was only 2 days. I went to Wayne and Sons Automotive in Santa Rosa due to a check engine light after I had replaced all of the supposed reasons for the check engine light and it was still on. My own mechanic was as confused about it as I was so I took it to Wayne because I had heard they were good. They told me they would fix it with parts costing nearly a $1,000.00 for two parts that I can buy elsewhere for both under $50.00. That $1,000.00 amount does not include labor. When I went in to set up an appointment, the couple ahead of me were told that Wayne's diagnostic charge was $189.00! I took it in the next day and when I went to pick it up after Wayne told me the exceptionally exorbitant prices if they did the work they handed me a bill for doing only the diagnostics and charged me $296.00!! What a RIPOFF!!! Because that other couple were young and I am a 78 year old man does that entitle them to charge me half again what they were charged? Maybe age discrimination?

I've dealt with many auto body shops in the past, and jobs that don't involve insurance work generally get passed over as a priority. A job that is promised to take a month, turns into 18 months quickly with little communication in-between, especially with classic cars like mine. That was not Downtown Collision. They stuck to their original timeline without sacrificing the quality of work. Gabriel kept me informed on the progress of the job the whole time. Sent me photos of the progress and checked in if there were any issues that needed a decision. Can't say enough good things about the level of honest customer service. And the level of work is impeccable. I brought in a classic car that needed the roof to be treated and painted due to rust. At every step they could've taken short cuts, but didn't. The roof came back looking immaculate. Even matched the original color perfectly. They came across some areas of rust that were too far gone to treat, and did seamless patch repair. Found some great solutions to problems without obvious answers. They made sure the job was done in a way that I would be happy with and kept me informed the whole time.
