TLDR: This was one of our best meals in Milan. Truly a local spot. My friends and I were in Milan for my bachelor party and we wanted to go to places where locals would go. I chose this restaurant on our last night in Milan because I wanted one last good pizza or pasta dish. It was a Friday night around 8:30 PM so the wait took a little longer for a table to open up for 6 people. The manager saw that we were wearing matching jerseys and he gave us some glasses of champagne while we waited for a table to become available. I thought that was very kind of him. We sat down after about 20 mins and ordered our food. Everyone in the group ordered either pizza or pasta. I went with pasta at the last min and I was not disappointed. It had amazing flavor and the noodles were cooked al dente. My brother ordered the diavola pizza and said it was the best pizza he had on the entire 3 day trip. Some of the staff looked at us annoyed because we had on our matching jerseys and they seemed to think it was obnoxious. But we're tourists on a bachelor party trip, have a little grace. I popped in for dinner as this was a suggested option. I ordered the muscles with marinara sauce and am pretty sure that I received muscles in a broth with lemon and garlic sauce. They were wonderful however I don't think I got the actual item that I ordered. I also ordered the porcini mushroom pizza but don't think I got porcini mushrooms. There were so few on the pizza I couldn't tell. It was good but I don't think I got what I paid for. It was a very warm evening, so I sat inside. The decor and the set up of the restaurant is wonderful. My server was attentive, but not overly engaging. I think there was a bit of a language barrier, which was all my fault, not the server. The risotto was very good and definitely what I would recommend. The pizza was okay, lacking a bit of flavor imo. We also tried the buratta and the side of vegetables. Buratta was very creamy, vegetables were a bit limp. The prices are extremely reasonable and they have a really nice outside seating are! Landed in Milan and found this gem on Yelp. We were welcomed to their outdoor patio. It was a cool night but their heaters kept us warm. We started with their burrata, it was so creamy and milky. Our next course was spaghetti pormodoro and my husband had the Diavla pizza. Such a delicious pepperoni pizza, had a kick to it! We ended the night with two cappuccinos . It was so good, we went back the next night. Our host was great inside and outside. The second night we ordered the Caprese with buffalo mozzarella, so enjoyable. You know a local place is good when it is PACKED with locals for lunch. Overall the food, location and experience were very good. Pizza's were delicious but the real winner here, the absolute mind-blowing showstopper was this Lemon dessert. Pro Tip: Make reservations through www.thefork.it -- you'll thank me later! This was our last dinner while we were visiting Milan and it was definitely our favorite. Being the American tourists we were, we ordered 3 entrees plus a salad with funny glances from surrounding tables since it was a lot of food for the two of us. The extensive menu is entirely in Italian but we were able to decipher it for the most part. You can choose from pasta, pizzas, meat and fish dishes as well as appetizers, salads and desserts. We ordered the diavola (picante salami and mozzarella cheese) pizza, risotto, tagliatelle bolognese and mixed greens salad. I don't say this very often, but absolutely everything was delicious and well prepared with the freshest ingredients. I enjoyed every dish but my favorite was the tagliatelle bolognese since the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was savory. A plus was that it was fairly budget friendly for our vacation as we spent about 38 euros for our entire meal compared to other places where we spent 50 euros+ per meal. Highly recommend! read more

After being racially turned down by Da Oscar we accidentally fell into this restaurant. They were able to accommodate for a party of two and sat us quickly. Their food was beyond expectations! During a stay in Milan, my friend and I went out looking for a real Italian dining experience. We decided to go for a walk without a place in mind and ended up coming across this restaurant. Their service was okay but their food was fantastic. We found that language was a bit of an issue here but that tended to be a case in general through places we tried in Milan. They did have an English menu that did a decent job of explaining the dishes. They had a fairly extensive menu which was nice. The interior was very cozy and I loved the decor which made the dining experience even better. I tried the pizza with spinach and arugula as well as spaghetti with mussles. Both were great. I realized after this meal that I'm not a huge fan of Arugula but the pizza nevertheless was fantastic without it. If you want to skip the crowd, come at 7 or earlier. 3 friends and I came here on a Saturday night for our last dinner in Italy. We were seated immediately but about 15 minutes later, the place started getting packed. To start, they give you tiny, fluffy, warm pillows of pita (?), along with olives, all drizzled in olive oil. To drink, I had the house red wine. In my past experiences from ordering the house wine at restaurants throughout Italy (and when I say past experiences, I really mean past week), they were pretty good. But I wash't a fan of Maruzzella's. It tasted sour. So try to avoid their house wine - or stick with a beer. For my entree, I went with the chicken Milanese. It was good, but nothing spectacular. It didn't taste like anything I couldn't get in NYC. Or maybe I just had really high hopes for eating chicken Milanese IN Milan. I also might have mooched a slice of the pizza margherita off of my friend's plate. It was pretty good! (and for 5 Euros, it was practically a steal) Looking back, if I were to choose between the pizza and the chicken, I would choose the pizza in a heartbeat. To top it all off, we shared the panna cotta. It was my first time trying panna cotta so I wasn't really sure what to expect. And since I have nothing else to base it on, I can say that I liked it. If there's one dish to try in Milan, it's the saffron risotto with ossobuco. If there's one restaurant to try it in, it's Maruzzella. The veal was so incredibly tender- cutting into the meat felt like slicing through butter. Flavors are rich and the bone marrow was spectacular. They have a wide variety of pastas, pizza, and seafood all at very reasonable prices. My risotto at €20 was considered a pricier menu item; pizzas are usually no more than €10. Took a friend here for her birthday the other day and we both fell in love (not with each other, but with Maruzzella). We started with a margherita pizza. The crust was absolutely perfect and, inside of that crust, was a luscious, delicious pizza. So great. Then we ordered primi - gnocchi with tomato and mozzarella and the pasta with clams. #419-2016: I have been debating for a while wether I should assign 3 or 4 stars to this place. In the end I opted for 3 and this is why. First off, the décor... your typical touristy trattoria (completed with black and white pictures of old italian movies up on the walls. We are talking about Totó and Umberto Sordi), somber dark wooden décor, dark wooden chairs and tables and ... you get the mental picture. The pizzas that were ordered looked fine (with the exception of one that was slightly burnt on the edges) but we are talking about Margherita and bufalina pizza... not that difficult to make... I personally ordered a plate of spaghetti alla puttanesca that was a little too al dente (I LOVE al dente) .... it wasn't huge of a portion but perfect for me. The gnocchi with mozzarella and tomato sauce were on the smaller side with a lot more mozzarella than we expected, but overall good. So, why the 3 stars? Because it truly looks like a tourist trap from the outside and once inside I couldn't shake the feeling I was right. Easily one of the best pizza places in Porta Venezia. It is located in a highly strategic spot, very close both to the Tram N.9 and the Metro Line 1 (Red). Therefore it can be reached quite easily by using public transports. The pizza is great, can't wait to go back to this place. This is how you make pizza goddamnit!! If you are planning to dine here you might wanna make a reservation because there is almost always a line (especially during weekends). I went there to order just a take-away pizza with prosciutto and I ended up waiting for quite a while because of the line. The place inside looks nice and you can also have the pleasure to observe the cook while he makes your pizza from over the counter. I found this spot over yelp and after reading that there's always a line to get in, we got there early and happened to be there even 20min before it opened. There was no line but the restaurant was open and we could already take a seat. The menu offers everything italian. Many pizzas, pasta, fish and meat dishes. We both choose pizza, I had the Norma with fried eggplant. Since we were the first ones our food arrived very quickly. The pizza was great! Crust could have been thinner but the fried eggpant was amazing! We also got the white house wine which was good as well (rather sweet tho). Service was super friendly and prices were okay. When we left there were about 10 people waiting to get seated, so make sure you book a table if you plan on arriving late. We didn't read any prior reviews on Maruzzella; we just stumbled upon it, were drawn to the wood-burning oven up front, peeked in, and liked the atmosphere. There was no wait for a table at 9:00 pm. After having drinks at a cafe not too far from the Duomo, with its accompanying snacks (though not a full aperitivo), we weren't all that hungry, so we opted for two primo piatti - two pasta dishes - and a small mixed salad. The first was penne in plain tomato sauce, with lots of diced eggplant & shredded Parmesan cheese, and it was excellent. The other was farfalle (if memory serves correctly), with a sauce of oil, ground pistachio nuts, garlic and some cream. It was definitely an interesting combo, and tasty, but too rich and oily. The salad was so fresh I wanted to slap it!! I don't know how we're going to go back to the stale stuff passed off at home. Service was very good, if perfunctory and not overly friendly, but we had a good time sharing conversation with the young Bulgarian woman dining solo who was finishing up a 6-month stint in Milan for her employer, HP. What a global economy we live in! If we ever return to Milan, we will definitely come back to Maruzzella. read more

Atmosphere is ok, crowded but not too noisy and the pizza is good. Just don't order the carbonara, such a disappointment, not being a pizza lover, I grade a restaurant based on their carbonara and Maruzzella's is bad, they even add cream! (Mortal sin!) This was one of the more memorable restaurants because of 3 reasons: 1) The wait took forever and the Italian ladies ditch us - thanks ladies 2) The pizza chef felt bad for us so he gave us free garlic pizza bits while we waited for another 20~ min 3)The atmosphere felt authentic What did I tried? Basically, I looked around the restaurant and ordered what the locals ordered. I tried the seafood salad pizza, mussels, risotto de milanese, seafood soup dish. We could tell how high quality the cheese was because of the texture and flavor. From the crust to the sauce, everything about Maruzzella's pizza was perfection. Even the pasta dishes we ordered were perfection. The pasta was cooked al dente, seasoned how we like it and the bursting with flavor. The ingredients were simple but the dishes was able to shine because of how well they were executed. I must say that the service in the restaurant was great. We got what we needed in a timely fashion though the servers were running around like mad men because it was so busy. Our food came out quickly and was piping hot. The disorganization at the door was more than made up for by how good our meal was and the service by our waiter. Girls coming in and speaking with the waiter get seated immediately. We were told that it was one of the best pizza places in Milan, and we weren't disappointed !!!!! The pizza we took were delicious, the dough tastes fantactic and the toppings were amazing. We took a homemade millefoglie and an ananas for dessert, and they were both delicious. The cream of the millefoglie, that can be often disappointing, was perfectly made, with a lot of flavors, and the ananas was fresh. The sparkling white wine they serve in the caraffas was amazing. And to top all of this, the whole staff was very welcoming and nice ! My friend and I don't speak Italian, but the staff speaks a perfect English. I HIGHLY recommend this place !!!
