This little European market is always bustling, especially on weekends. So, we try to visit on weekdays. I love coming here to get my deli meats for sandwiches. I prefer freshly sliced deli meats over those pre-sliced, packaged cold cuts, hands down! Most of the meats are imported from the EU. I am probably the worst person writing review for this place given I am not from Russia or Eastern Europe. But maybe it will be interesting read. The first thing I am definitely lost without a Google lens here. However I came here with a Russian speaking friend so I already had great guide. I actually loved the variety here - many unique tea - I will certainly try them next time. The Halva and chocolate assortment is really unique here. I got some Ukrainian Marshmallow - umm I don't know if I liked it - it was too sweet. However the eggplant jar - that was sooo good. Absolutely loved it. One thing is for sure I can go anywhere in world and food will be better than American and British. I wanted to try bread but since it was evening the stock was almost empty. I stop here on my way home from work to pickup a baked good for my European Grandfather. The selection of baked goods is great as well. It is hard to find good European style baked goods. I stopped in on a weekday afternoon to take advantage of their lunch deli. Some staff may appear cold but they are mostly friendly and helpful. I will be honest, it can be intimidating wanting to order food when there are no names on the dishes and you don't speak the language, but I took to the pointing method and faired rather well. I recommend trying their bottles pomegranate soda; It's really good. This is a market so you can order lunch, eat at the tables outside, and then get a quick grocery shopping trip in. I wish I lived closer to Marvel. What a treat to have an authentic store that offers so many products i grew up eating. I make it a point to drive down 45-50 mins out to stock up in some of my faves, and always end up buying too much. Their delis/meats/cheeses section offers just about anything you may be looking for. I love their prepared salads and marinates - always on point and pretty affordable. The smoked (hit and cold) mackerel is the best in WA. I get some for my dad to go along with beer, and he finds it to be "just like back home". Red/salmon caviar is usually a gamble (not a fan of bitter roe!) so I prefer to get it at Japanese grocery stores. However, last time I selected a jar from Marvel to try on open-faced sandwiches, and I was pleasantly surprised that it matched the quality and taste of what I usually get at Japanese stores. If only I remembered the exact brand/packaging I got! If you're into sweets, it's dangerous not to get carried away when seeing the vast variety of baked goodies this store offered. Wether it's a beautifully decorated cakes, pirozhnye, cookies - they are delightful! Also a great selection of ice cream and chocolate glazed sweet farmers cheese snack. What makes this place even more special is that not only they offer deli and bakery products -- they also offer free a huge variety of fresh produce AND cooked foods. It's almost impossible to resist the good smells coming from the cooked food section as you head toward the register. Be sure to grab some, you won't regret it! This is the second Marvel Grocery Store and one I haven't ever been into until this past weekend. The place is very popular and gets congested terribly easy with customers. The deli set up is slightly different than the Tacoma location as it must be common to have heavy customer traffic and you have to pick a number in order to get waited on at the deli. They have about the same merchandise as the Tacoma location other than a few noticeable differences like the Auburn location has a hot case area(The Tacoma used to have one but no longer does) so you can get ready to eat food items like sausages and chicken. We had a chicken piece in a deep fried batter which was delicious but there was no sign for the name of what we had. Best get to the hot case area early in the day as the close it up in early to mid afternoon. On the flip side the Tacoma location has what looks like a fully functional bakery where you can purchase freshly baked breads while the Auburn location has packaged breads that looked shipped in. This location and the Tacoma location both have a wonderful freshly made dessert pastry section so there is plenty of sweet temptations at both locations but a few of those options look like they vary between the two locations. read more

Where to start... I like the ASSORTMENT. The QUALITY is good. I cannot say about everything, cause haven't tried all, but of all I tried I can say good. BUT THE SERVICE IS BAD. Half of the personal doesn't speak English. Most of them speak only Ukrainian - I don't mind at all, but it's kinda rude when a person asks in Russian and get answer that he/she couldn't understand... There is no sign to take a number to be served in a deli and meat section. I didn't get that and was waiting for 15 minutes till another woman who was also a visitor told me what to do... And whether you go, the crowd pressures you. Spaces between aisles aren't enough for two people to walk by - that's why you always need to wait, or go another way to take what you need. read more

Wow. What a cool place. Walked in and it smells like a delicious bakery. Go in and am amazed by all the different products available. Meats, cheeses, dry goods, canned goods, spices, sauces and a decent selection of produce. I purchased packages of polish barley soup mix, a jar of polish cabbage salad, 3 kiwis for $1 and a few treats from the bakery to take to Mom & Dad. I want to go back and try lunch at the deli. I went here seeking dumplings but I found something much better, nostalgia... and dumplings. Why you ask did I find nostalgia at a Russian/Ukrainian food market when I and neither Russian nor Ukrainian? Well, this amazing little gem of a supermarket has isles and isles of candy, some of which I haven't seen since I was a kid and some that I have never tried at all. There were so many great things about this place beyond that. The smell of freshly baked artesanal breads and pastries, the isle made up of only cans of sardines (it was just crazy to see so many different kinds), the deli with dumplings by the pound and Eastern European salads and sauces (that I don't know the names of but look delicious), as well as a butcher, a hearty produce section and all the other things you would look for in a grocery store, but better. The employees were all super helpful and willing to explain or translate things if I wasn't familiar with them (as a lot of the items are written primarily in Russian) and the best part of all, everything is way more reasonably priced than at Safeway or other chain stores. This is a must go for anyone seeking to try new foods or save money on groceries. I will be back again, to buy more dumplings, and enjoy a walk down the candy isles and back to my childhood. read more

Well, I blame my bestie. She's Belarussian and she likes to feed me with Russian chocolate and snack. So I got hooked and now I have to drive all the way to Auburn to get my fill. This store really needs to open a branch location, but until then I'd suck up and drive 50mins one way over there. I usually get their flavored bread crisps so I can put some on my salad or just for snacking in general, and their boxed teas. My favorite part? Of course the shelf-after-shelf of chocolates that you can mix-and-match and pay per pound.. it's my kind of candyland. They also have seafood section, but most importantly a bakery section which always looks so good. The only tricky thing, they tend to sell out of products and have different products on the shelves.. so sometimes if I have *specific* items I want in mind, I'll be driving out here for stuff that may or may not be available anymore. The products in this store have English translation on the box, and most of them have translation in other languages as well (Mandarin.. or even Indonesian!) so it's easy for us the non-Russian-speaking crowd to understand. Be careful.. this place is going to make you want to travel! Everything is so authentic and delicious! On our road trip we stopped in to grab a quick bite and their deli had plenty of choices between hot lunch, cold crunchy veggies and of course sweet desserts. We knew it was going to be good when we saw the line of regulars in for lunch. However, we waited maybe five minutes and for both of us to be plum full with leftovers a $13 lunch is a win in my book! Even if you wanted to grab some groceries this would be the spot!! I love Marvel! Clean, well- stocked. I didn't like some of the bakery items, but I think that has to do with my own American tastes, not the quality of the goods. They have items not only from Eastern Europe, but also Israel and other parts of the Middle East and from Asia. A few reviewers have made negative comments about the lack of masks. I was delighted with it. Since the masks have been found to make no difference whatsoever, (and this place is owned by people who have had to live under a dicatorship), it made sense that they do not force people to wear them. read more

This place is a hit & miss; it has definitely gone downhill in the last 5 years. 5 years ago, the cakes were so delicious and actually "Slavic homemade" - now.. they just went the cheap route and use American icing which let's be honest - is disgusting. It WAS the best store in the great Seattle area... very sad to say WAS cuz there are no longer REAL pirozhki (ponchiki) in this place. Very disappointed about that. The dough is not the one suppose to be for pirozhki! There is no good stuffing like it suppose to be (not enough meat, not enough potatoes etc.) just bread ... A friend suggested that I check out this shopping mart since I love Russian food and it's a shorter drive then going to Seattle. In short, I really like the variety of Russian snacks in the grocery part and the food in the deli, so will definitely stop in if I'm in the area. Read on for more details... Deli: First off, you must be meat, potato, pasta, and cheese friendly since a lot of Russian food is usually a combination of all three. They have a wonderful selection to choose from and it's sold by the pound, so you can choose a mix of things to try. Just make sure to express how much you want of each because they have a tendency to pile it on (not necessarily a bad thing). The girls who work behind the counter are really sweet and helpful with giving advice on what to try. There is also a large selection of slaw type veggies to choose from but be pre-warned that most are pickled or seasoned to be very salty. Still delicious just salty. The least salty one that I've tried is the chopped beets slaw (my personal favorite). Bakery: I highly recommend sharing a desert because they're on the large and sweet side. The Cappuccino cup is an 80% whipped cream dessert with a coffee flavor, almond paste center, and the bottom is dipped in a thin coat of chocolate (the bowl part). The cakes have a slightly sweet and buttery flavor (like cake from Asian bakeries). Most of the chocolate items are solid chocolate -think fudge. For example the large "Rum Ball" is a nutty flavored tennis ball size piece of fudge that's dusted with ground nuts or cocoa. Of the items that I've sampled, the fruit tarts with whipped topping are my favorite and the eclairs are my least favorite. The eclair was dry and after taking a bite, I noticed that there was a small ball of filling (whipped cream) clinging to the inside corner of the hollow pastry... I ended up tossing that one. Shopping: SO much Russian Candy to choose from! The candy is separated by bins and sold by the pound. The price of candy ranges from $3-6.99lb. If you look through the isles, they also sell candy from Italy and Germany but those are usually the boxes that cost around $10-30. They have an interesting mix of smoked fish, meat, and cheese. In the frozen/chilled food isle you'll find a variety of fresh farmer cheeses (including Jewish and Amish). Way in the back is the fresh produce, a small area, where they sell fresh herbs, fruit, and veggies. read more
