I always enjoy working with Marvin and his crew. My most recent project was my third time working with them. It was a small project to just level less than 15 bricks on my front walkway. At first I didn't want to bother him with such a small project and looked around through Thumbtack and Yelp. Someone on Thumbtack reached out but then ghosted me - my guess is that he realized he quoted too low of a price. Others on Yelp didn't message me back, my guess here is that the project was not worth their while. I eventually caved in and reached out to Marvin. Within 24 hours, the job was done. We just finished up having Marvel Landscapes design and build a brand new garden area in our backyard. I could not recommend them more! Marvin, Jaime, and the team did a wonderful job. This company was professional, easy to work with, reasonably priced, and most importantly created a peaceful sanctuary in our yard that we love! The process started with them coming to the property to take measurements. Then we sent over a vision board of inspiration pictures and ML got back to us with a CAD style design and cost estimate. The costs were going to be higher than we were imagining (we had not provided a budget) and ML worked with us to see where we could scale back so we could get the most impact for our dollar spend. They built up and flattened out the garden area, cleared the space, and prepped for planting. We got to walk through the nursery and learn about different plants, care instructions, what blooms in which season, etc. ML installed a new sprinkler line for the space, planted, created gravel pathways, etc. and finished the project. Communication was great and available via call, text, and in person. We always knew when they would be arriving and they were professional. Hauled off all trash and debris so we weren't left with any mess. ML consulted with us on how to care for each new plant, how much growth to expect, and next steps if we want to add on. Marvel Landscapes does absolutely amazing work. Don't think twice about hiring them. I heard about Marvel through a friend who recommended them. I was brought up in a household where my father forced me to do everything related to home repair and renovation so it was a stretch for me to hire someone to do my landscaping. After attempting to do the work myself and failing miserably, I called Marvel for an estimate. He suggested some awesome ideas and after putting those design ideas on paper, I fell in love. If you only saw the condition of my yard prior to landscaping. It was a 3,000 sq.ft + absolute dump. I had sand 5" above the concrete line. There was the most disgusting bent 50" Pine tree in the middle of the front yard that dropped pine needles, sap and pine cones all over my house, car and dog. My dog would run around in dirt and drag everything inside the house. Marvel removed it all. They took out the tree and root, removed all dirt and bushes and started everything from a clean slate. After he was done, both front and back yard transformed into a place where I did not want to leave. I literally stood outside for days looking at the yard and feeling I was at peace. They created amazing stepping stone walkways, put in a young Strawberry Marina Tree and a Pink Lemonade Tree along with lots of Green Mountain Box Woods. They made sections where I could plant smaller annuals for myself along with some beautiful Evergreen quadrants. They installed a state of the art sprinkler system saving me money on water and earning me over a $1,000 in rebates. They kept my backyard simple and balanced. Everyone who walks into my house loves my landscaping and now we only hang out outside. I 100% think it was all worth it. One note; my biggest concern was my dog and making sure she does not destroy the grass when she runs around like the maniac she is. Had a 6-7 month project with Marvin. His team did our whole backyard and frontyard (around 2500+ sq ft in total). The project consisted of hardscape and landscape - Marvin did a great job making both flow and work together for our use and enjoyment. Marvin made sure our ideas are also incorporated in the overall design - which we appreciated greatly. His extensive knowledge of plantings and landscape design provided an overall great execution and result for our project. The service after the project is also great. I'm not someone to just hire someone, so I did my research and decided to go with Marvin from Marvel Landscapes on transforming my backyard from a mediocre backyard to an absolute dream backyard. Within a couple days he already 3 different plans for backyard with a couple different options for each one depending on what I was looking for and let me tell you.. I loved all of them. We ended up going with a new BBQ grill area that was designed to looked like a hut in Hawaii, a fire pit, and a mini pond with a walkway with unique plants and rocks all over. We bought a house that was completely rebuilt with a huge backyard that was just dirt and rocks, including a hillside. After meeting with at least 6 landscapers, we chose Marvin because he was the only one who was able to provide ALL of the services we needed. We hired Marvin for three projects - to install: 1) a new drainage system to reduce flooding, 2) a fence and gate, and 3) landscape/irrigate the yard in 3 different sections. He also provided valuable information on planting for hillside/erosion, drought tolerant landscaping, whether we needed a retaining wall, and local permits. Throughout our 3-phase project Marvin was meticulous in preparing detailed estimates, sometimes more than once or twice as he incorporated our choices and suggestions. With each step of each project he reported on the details of next steps and asked follow up questions. He and his crew were on time and kept the project on track (even when we went on a 3 week vacation). As with any project, plans change as you go, but he was mindful of our budget and our needs. Our project finished 2 weeks ago, but Marvin has gone above and beyond by visiting our yard to make the plants were OK during the recent heat wave. Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience. Paid full fare for a yard design. The drawing itself was fine. But they couldn't find a crew to do the job for 6+ months. I even contacted contractors myself, and referred them to Marvin. But they said they never heard back after submitting bids. Ultimately, we had pay a second contractor to re-draw the plan and actually make the yard. The second contractor also managed permits and approvals for us, which turns out isn't included in Marvelous's plan costs. read more

We had our yard hillside cleaned, grated, sprinklers installed, landscaped with drought tollerant plants and a couple trees removed all by Marvel Landscapes. Boy was I glad we worked with Marvin! I had researched for a couple months and received several quotes but either they were super expensive or questionably cheap. I gotta say Marvin is the man! He really really addresses our needs, concerns and all fell within a reasonable price that fit our budget. He's very knowlegable and a super nice guy too! Very easy to work with! I met them at the nursery down the street from my house. I went to pick up a few plants and ask a few questions about my backyard and luckily the owner happened to be there buying some plants for another customer. After a short conversation, we setup an appointment and he came to my house to check out my back yard. I was shocked when in less than 72 hours he emailed me a full design outline. He even had a few different versions with different "toys" included. By toys I mean a new BBQ Island... After some thinking, I decided to move forward with the design that included the BBQ set. The proposal included a whole new landscape design with irrigation, plants and pavers, and of course my new toy :) Before finalizing the deal, I called a few other people and got some quotes. 2 of the other quotes were ridiculously low (which later I found out that it was because they were not licensed - fewwweff bullet dodged there!) and 1 was slightly higher. I called up Marvin and finalized the deal and I have to admit, I am extremely glad I went with him. Work was on time, despite the little changes I decided to make mid-project and upon delivery, it blew my expectations away. Marvin has exceptional vision and is very resourceful. He and his team landscaped my front and rear yards very tastefully. At every step of the way he educated me on the various types of plants and trees and how each behaves based on the region etc. We planted bushes and roses in the front with a drip irrigation system and the perfect amount of lighting to complement the space. Amazing sums up Marvel/Marvin best.. My water bill was crazy high. I called Hamer Sprinkler in Santa Monica to come out and asses. They charged $200.00 to tell me I had a leak in my sprinkler system as well my timer clock was not working correctly. I almost passed out at the $200.00 charged, yet they said they would take some of that off when they did the work. Hamer said the job would cost around $3000.00....When i got off the floor from passing out I went to Yelp, found Marvin and Marvel. They came out bid the gig for free. Gave me a high end timer which can sense the weather, trouble shot and tweaked the entire system, rewired the electric, changed 3 Valves, fixed the leak for $1300.00 These guys were fantastic, incredibly fair is an understatement. A pleasure to work with came out the next day after bidding and did the gig. (Hamer said they would have to wait 4/5 days waiting for a timer)....I can't recommend them enough. read more

Found this company on yelp and after reading the reviews, decieded to try them out. Marvin stopped by and and was so exptremeely professional and easy to work with. We did not use him for his landscaping design, but he re did all the sprinklers at our home to the most water efficient nozzles along with a weather station with a perfect designed layout. He was so extremely resourceful in letting us know what plants would work well with our backyard and where. The plants he suggested were absolutely perfect and the nursery in La Canada is absolutely wonderful and extremely reasonably priced. He knows his plants and landscaping inside and out and am definitely planning to get my lighting done through him. The only reason I did not have Marvin do my landscape design is because of the designer in me and I'd love to be able to design my own place. It was an absolute pleasure sharing ideas and getting a proffessional insight on everything, you name it - plants, design, layout, longevity, appeal. WORST LANDSCAPER EVER!! Marvin started out great. He is nice, friendly, and you are sucked into believing that he not only cares about the job but is an ethical business person. He put sprinklers in for us and, because we were concerned about cost, recommended plastic which shortly thereafter broke causing water damage to our home. When he came to replace the sprinklers, he gave us no credit on the cost of the defective sprinkler he initially installed. Clearly, he should have said there is no option but to use something other than plastic but instead TOOK OUR MONEY TWICE!! More shocking than that was the fact that 5 PLANTS DIED shortly after he put them in and he had the nerve to tell us he would charge us to replace the plants. It is inconceivable that a landscaper with any experience would put in plants that were not appropriate for a given area, didn't have proper irrigation, and/or were unhealthy. EVEN HOME DEPOT REPLACES PLANTS WITHOUT A CHARGE TO IT'S CUSTOMERS!!! Clearly--Marvel Landscapes/Marvin manipulates his business so that you pay for something he does and then have to pay again when it is defective. (I wish I could give less than one star but Yelp won't let me.) read more

I contacted Marvin at Marvel Landscapes for a re-landscaping of the front and back yard of a small rental house that I own. Marvin took the time to prepare a proposal that included a montage of photos showing the plants that he proposed to use. He seemed very knowledgeable about plants, and which ones to choose and why. I chose Marvin out of 3 landscaping companies that I talked to. I liked the design he did. I've been using Marvel Landscapes monthly to take care of the new plants as they get established. Since I'm the third guy to post on here who went with a BBQ/fire pit, with urging by Marvin, Marvin seems to like to encourage people to put in BBQs/fire pits. It's a nice touch. We finally ended up with a renter who really liked the yard. Marvin's numbers were not the cheapest, but then his proposal was nicer than others, so I went with it and am happy with. This price seems quite reasonable for what I got, which is similar to the design shown in Marvel's listing here on Yelp. Marvin is a very friendly guy, easy to work with, and seems genuinely motivated to do a good job for a fair price. I'd definitely work with him again. read more

I went online searching for a few local landscape companies around the area as I don't know of many since I am new to the area. I came across quite a few and being the person I am I called and spoke with quite a few different people because I am the type of person to judge people's works & crafts based off their personalities. From all the people I spoke with Marvin seemed to be the brightest and most knowledgeable of what I was searching for. We recently had work completed by Marvel Landscapes. Our house is situated on a hill and we were very concerned about potential soil erosion due to coming El Nino rains. Our hillside sprinkler system was old, inadequate, and due to drought, we had lost majority of groundcover. We opted to contact Marvel Landscapes due to existing YELP reviews and we were not disappointed. Long story short, Marvin came over, assessed the situation, and made recommendations for plantings, new sprinkler heads, etc. His crew did a great job. They were on time, worked hard, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Our hillside looks great and we are feeling relieved that the plantings will take root soon before the big rains! While, Marvel Landscapes is not the cheapest, they did quality work. In fact, Marvin is coming by tomorrow to check that the plantings have taken and that there are no issues. At some point, we will remove front yard lawn and replace with drought tolerant plantings. We will be giving Marvel Landscapes a call. Call them for your landscaping needs! read more
