I've been seeing him for a couple of years now. The office staff has always been helpful and courteous. The doctor is generally concerned about my health and well being. He takes the time with me ensuring I'm doing all I can to be at the best health possible. He even went so far to make sure I had the best insurance when my insurance changed. Also will leave you in the middle of the appointment to take another telehealth appointment or see another patient without explaining anything or during filler time for any procedure. Has misdiagnosed my mother before, delaying critical treatment. Receptionist has a horrible attitude. Empty, barren, hollow medical office and the Dr. looks exhausted. This doctor is very medically incompetent!! And his manner is poor. His medical knowledge is lacking, and he rude and rushes through the patient's case, missing their important medical history. If he continues practicing the way he currently does, I'm afraid he will cause harm to his patients. I'm a physician myself, and Dr. Nguyen has been caring for my parents for the past few years. I live far away from my parents so was never able to take them to their doc visits, but upon reviewing my dad's management in the past few years and speaking to Dr. Nguyen on the phone recently, I can see that he does not know what is going on with my dad. He also orders for imaging without having a reasonable indication. He gets frustrated when I ask follow up questions because I can tell he's very rushed and wants to hang up, he kept cutting me off and said he's going to hang up a few times while I was still talking, and his replies is, "it's fine, whatever, you guys don't have to do it". I also walked in on my mom one time while she was having a tele visit with him once, it took a total of about 3 mins, and all I can hear is every time my mom ask a question, he cuts her off and talks over her, and in the end he said "I'm very busy, I gotta go" and hangs up. My mom then tells me that's how he treats her and my dad at most visits. I have never in my medical career treated any of my patients like this. I was taught to respect patients and listen to their concerns, because it is a privilege to even be able to see and treat patients. I hope for other patients' sake that Dr. Nguyen's doesn't treat them the same as he treats my parents. Elderly patients can be frustrating, as they have a lot of medical issues, and they may not have a full understanding of their illnesses, but that does not mean they deserve to be treated with any less respect. I advise people that not all FM doc out there are supposed to be like this. This is NOT the standard of care. There are really good and caring docs out there, so please find yourself another pcp who actually will listen to your concerns and treat you with respect and dignity. I came in for a preventative care visit and right off the bat the office was already rubbing me the wrong way when they were trying to bill it as a doctor's visit which bills completely different. Then after waiting for 30-40 minutes, I finally see the doctor and he spends no more than five minutes and sends me out to get lab tests. I do the tests and schedule a return visit, but the office wanted to charge me for another doctor's visit, just so that I can get my results. I declined asked for my results and they sent me some illegibility document without explaining it to me. To make matters worse, I later found out that they charged me for a field vision exam which I ended up having to be responsible for through my insurance. This is not the experience I, nor anyone else, should be receiving from their primary care team. read more

Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen is a family practice physician with an office located near Little Saigon in San Jose (just to the west of the Wal-Mart on Story road, directly across from Kelly Park). It's a little hard to find because his office is not directly on Story Rd... you have to turn onto Remillard Ct and then there is a sign that is easy to see. His staff speaks fluent Vietnamese and at least one of his nurses is fluent in Spanish. English wasn't a problem. I'm new to San Jose and was assigned Dr. Nguyen as my primary care physician through Valley Care. I had an appointment on a Monday morning 11:15am and was able to fill out the paperwork and see the doctor with minimal to no delay. His office was filled with both vietnamese and hispanic patients who seemed to either walk-in or have an appointment early Monday morning. Dr. Nguyen was busy on this Monday morning but did spend about 15-20 minutes with me as I am a new patient. He listened to my concerns and offered advice. He is a family practice physician with an undergrad degree in Biology (minor in psychology) from UC-Irvine, and an MD (1997) from Western University of Health Sciences. He completed his residency in Bakersfield (Kern Medical Center). He is a family man with at least one child. His office is rather sparce but this is to be expected in a new & growing practice. There is a small area for children and the entire area seemed clean. He believes in health promotion & disease prevention through educating his patients. His quote: "I look forward to the opportunity to provide quality and compassionate care with emphasis on prevention and education is of the highest priority. Beyond the diagnosis and treatment, being a physician involves both a professional and personal relationship with the patient". That said, Dr. Nguyen was busy this Monday morning and I don't really think a "patient relationship" was developed with me yet. In fairness, this was my first visit and he asked to see me again in the near future when my labs have been delivered. I'd recommend Dr. Nguyen, but be sure to pick another time than Monday morning when he is treating patients with issues that developed over the previous weekend. His Tuesday office hours are 11am-8pm, which I think is nice to accommodate patients who aren't 9-5-ers. He seems to care about the Vietnamese community and I applaud him for opening a practice here. I would guess his patient mix is about 40% asian, 30% hispanic, and 30% caucasian. Bottom Line: He is a good doctor but, as with any doctor, make sure he spends the appropriate amount of time with you so that you feel comfortable with him. I have nothing against the doctor himself but the customer service and wait time are horrible. For my first appointment, I had to wait for 30 minutes to be called in and once they had taken my blood pressure, i had to wait for another 20 minutes before i could see the doctor, who only saw me for approximately 10minutes. For the second time, i had to wait for an hour and 15 minutes ONLY to be told to come back at 2pm because doctor had to go to lunch. Seriously? If you're that busy, then please don't schedule me at that time. I'm in the medical field as well, and I do understand that we as doctors run a little bit behind sometimes, but this is beyond unacceptable. Also, one of the Vietnamese front desk ladies (the younger one. I think her name is Hang.) was very unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful. She never care to look at you when speaking to you. I wish Yelp had an option to give 0 Star!!! I've been to this office for the third time now. Each visit, they made me wait for over an hour just to be called in. After having my blood pressure taken, height and weight checked, I was being placed in a room for another 30 mins to see the doctor. When he finally showed up, he didn't knock before entering the room, just went in like a storm and started yelling in my face, YES, he yelled! I was there 2 times in a week because I needed to go back and begged him for a referral to see the dermatologist for my skin condition after his wise-ass knowledge prescribed meds don't work. His response was ,"With this, there's nothing the dermatologist can do." So dermatologist cannot cure my rash but you could? Not to mention how rushy and pushy he always is, never care to give a careful look at my skin nor let me finish telling him my symptoms. He'd jump in my mouth every time I speak. I also asked for something to help with my hair+weight loss, his response was, "it's genetic, my uncles, dad, and cousins all have hair loss issues. No medicines in the world can help with that." OMFG!!!! I'm so fed up with his shit and stupidity! Moral of the story, don't bother coming here or you'll get all the bs he'll feed to you. I've been seeing Dr. Peter for a few years now. I mainly visit for regular checkups. He seems genuinely interested in my health. He always has recommendations for better health, but isn't forceful about minor concerns. He always takes the time to discuss my life and work, which I appreciate. The staff seems constantly busy, but they're courteous and professional enough. If you have an appointment during popular times, you may have to wait to see the doctor. This is probably because he spends so much time per patient. Also, some medical practices are highly transparent in how they will charge the patient or insurance. This office doesn't do that, so if you want to know what services they rendered and what they'll charge, you must ask. read more

Dr Peter is a very nice man. I've been seeing him since I was 12, now 22. I've taken my 2 children there since they were newborn in the hospital. My grandma goes here, drives from Concord to see him. Actual visits in the back rooms, he is really nice, can be a little quick if you don't have many questions, but he can sit there and talk to you if need lol. Easy communication. Also love the way he talks to my newborns. Yes he is very busy and booked, so that appointment wait is kind of long. But I've seen people get called in the soonest 15 mins after their appointment time. Or it can take up to 30 to 45. It has gotten a lot more busy since before, but I trust Dr Peter so that's why I go, and I'm willing to wait. Updated review because Dr. Nguyen deserves it! In my last review, the only complaint I had was the wait time. But he's sooooo worth the wait. 15mins-1hr it varies but it's because he's always booked! And there's a good reason why! He's caring and actually takes his time to talk to his patients. I have never in my entire life, (and I am 33 yrs. old), been so humiliated and degraded by a doctor in my entire life!!!! He walked in the room with this rage in his eyes and face, he looked at me like I was the most disgusting thing on the face of the earth!!! He didn't say hello, nor how are you doing! I am completely disappointed. My daughter had been seeing this doctor from birth and at first it was great I felt I was getting the time I needed and slowly that changed. He had been giving me the incorrect medication to treat my daughter's skin condition which I found from her new doctor who sent her in for testing to make sure what she had before prescribing any medication. THAN.. while still seeing him I called the emergency number given by his office because my daughter's skin was getting worse. I never got a call back and the next day I called the office and was put on a 45 minute hold. (SERIOUSLY?) So given that he is a Family Doctor I began seeing him as well I had terrible pain and called the office they made me an appointment to see him two WEEKS after. When in fact i Mentioned I was having severe pain. That night I had surgery to remove my appendix after seeing The E.R SO MUCH MORE I could say. But anyways I do not recommend the doctor. This doctor overbooks patients; therefore, there is always a long wait, about 1-1.5 hour wait, even when you already made an appointment in advance. I think that is the reason why we make appointments right ? IT IS TO AVOID THE WAIT BUT IT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. The doctor does not take his time at all. I do not have medical insurance since I am self-employed. Let me tell you, Dr. Peter Nguyen still sees me, my husband, and six of our children. We just pay a very fair amount for the office visit. He is a life saver. When I have needed an urgent appointment, his office gets me in right away. He has a true passion for healing patients and I am truly blessed that he is our family doctor. I totally agree w/ Iris Phuong N. - I have never met any rude front desk staff in my life. (I have quiet a few in the past) but come on!! You're working with families here where's the love?! My boyfriend attends this doctor not me, but I do have to say this is by far the worst ever! I have never ever had to raise my voice to get the doctors concern until this couple months. My boyfriend and I came here with his concern of his tailbone pain. We arrived there early and the doctor wasn't found to be seen so we waited, doctor came and we still had to wait for other sick patients or to my thought infants getting their check up. We then waited and my bf has been having severe pain (but couldn't go to the hospital since it wasn't life/death situation) so what does the doctor do..? Prescribe him ibuprofen?! Ibuprofen.. Ibuprofen doesn't even come close to severe pain medications. I called the clinic the next day and told the front desk the medication dr. Nguyen prescribed isn't helping and if he can another pain medication. The girl than said she will leave a note for the doctor to see and he will get back to us. Another day and a half passed by and they still haven't replied. I called for immediate attention and she still gave me the same f* answer. I couldn't stand seeing my bf in so much pain. I drove to the clinic and spoke to the front desk and being a b*tch I can be she finally got her butt off that chair and finally prescribed him so vicodin. It wasn't to my intention to be mean but they need to understand that this pain wasn't just a hammer in the knee, it was severe pain. EVERYTIME i come to this clinic there is always an attitude problem and for damn sure i will make sure they will receive the same attitude they give me! i highly recommend hiring new polite staff.. read more

NOT WHO HE CLAIMS TO BE My mother had been seeing Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen for several years when her pulmonologist Dr. Emiro Burbano detected a spot in her lung back in 2007. Dr. Burbano requested that Dr. Nguyen send my mother to a specialist to have further studies conducted to determine what the spot was. Instead of referring my mother to a specialist, Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen assured her that the spot was harmless and my mother trusted in his judgment. She had always trusted in her doctors. Four years later, the spot had grown to stage four metastatic cancer. By this time, it had also spread to her brain. My mother confronted Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen about his failure to respond four years earlier as detection then could have prevented the growth and spread of her cancer. He apologized to her but did nothing from this point on to help her manage her symptoms. The following two-and a-half years were a harrowing experience for my mother. She began radiation therapy for her brain tumors. This was followed by chemotherapy pills. The side effects included losing her hair, growing painful blisters in her mouth and her face. Her nails began to fall off and a downward spiral of weight loss and the eventual loss of the control of her lower jaw and tongue began. I took her to the emergency room twice because her nausea became so bad that she felt that she would die. For a moment in 2012 she appeared to be going into remission and we were all hopeful. Then the cancer began to grow again and she began the chemotherapy injection. Throughout, neither Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen nor his office staff ever provided any support or even so much as called to find out how she was carrying on and managing her disease. She would rarely have an appetite and her weight and muscle loss became especially noticeable in the spring of 2013 and by the summer she began having dizzy spells that caused her to fall. My mother never gave up on life and always had hope and faith. She tried her best to carry on with her life as normal. She decided to see Dr. Sergio Court in the summer of 2013, who prescribed her appetite pills. She was so happy that her appetite was back, though her ability to chew continued to decline, and we were all surprised that Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen hadn't prescribed her these pills when he first found out about her appetite loss a year earlier. By this time, my mother had lost faith in Dr. Nguyen and we had decided that she would no longer see him. In March 2014, my mother lost her fight against cancer. I can't help but wonder every day what her life would have been like if Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen would have responded in a timely fashion to my mother's pulmonologist's request for further studies. My mother was a fighter and Dr. Nguyen basically stole from my mother a fighting chance to beat her cancer, allowing a once vibrant woman to deteriorate and waste away. On his website, Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen claims to "promote disease prevention" but his actions clearly do not support this statement. He needs to either take on a partner to help him with his heavy patient case load or to stop taking on new patients. His patients need to know that Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen does not for whatever reason always follow up on specialist recommendations and they would perhaps be better suited to find a doctor who takes the time to address issues that can be potentially harmful to them. I would hate for any trusting individuals to meet a fate similar to my mother's under Dr. Peter Linh Nguyen's care, and I only wish I had had the strength and courage to have written this review sooner. This clinic has gone down over the years. My children and I have been going to Dr. Peter ever since they were born, when he first started his practice, and now they're both in their teens. So, I don't know what happened, perhaps got too busy? I've really held on for a while, considering it's been so long, but finally decided to change doctors after one mishap after another: TRUE...wait time even with appt has been grueling (expect 1-2hours), once you get inside, probably get 5mins face time with the doctor, NO callbacks about medical results and if you call in for it, they just try to get you in to visit again - even when you want to just ask about results. Dealbreaker for me was when I deliberately requested a particular outpatient exam, and was given something else (even when I made sure that it was what I requested). Dr. Nguyen has been my doc for many years. I chose him because he's not only professional, caring, and personable (very down to earth guy), but he's one of those who you trust your health with. I've seen Dr. Nguyen interacted with different people at multiple health fairs, from young to old, different ethnics like African, Caucasians, Hispanics, Asian, etc., he treats them with respects and care. For some of the bad comments with race/ethnics, I'm sure there's a misunderstanding somewhere because Dr. Nguyen would never do such thing. He's a person with integrity, unless certain requests were too much that he must deny for your own benefits!? I was one of the many people who did not have health insurance. So when I was able to qualify for Mcal, I did and got it. They gave you a book of Dr's that accepts Mcal. I went down the list, many are over filled with patients that they don't have anything available for you until a month from now. So I called around. Finally I was able to see Dr. Nguyen. I'm asthmatic, so they took me in Asap. I didn't know what to expect. But when I got there the office was really nice and clean. The staff was really nice and helpful. I didn't wait to long in my room, which was a plus! He was very nice, gave me a lot of good pointers on how to handle my asthma, put me on some new meds, which helped a lot. I can tell that he was really wanting to improve my health. He took the time to understand what was happening and he also showed and explained in detail how to use the new meds I was getting.
