The biscuits and gravy were broken and curdled, which is what happens when someone scalds the dairy and plates it anyway rather than starting over. Neither of those dishes is difficult. Both are the reason a breakfast restaurant exists. Failing them after an hour-long wait means the problem isn't that the kitchen was slammed, it's that nobody looked at the plates before they went out. Our favorite was the sausage, gave 3 and they were much hardier than the bacon. Eggs were great for dipping the pancake and sausage in. Waffle was crispy. Pancakes were decadent and very filling. They gave lots of butter and the house made maple syrup was a nice touch. Probably wouldn't be back though as it was good but not awesome. Service was nice! This place was pretty good but the prices are pretty high. I got the ham Eggs Benedict. The ham was really thick which was great. Since there is seating inside and outside the servers come in and out every couple minutes. One of the servers kept using the bottom of her shoe to open the handle of the door handle and kick the door open every time she went outside (hands were full). When I first moved to Novato I went there. Did not end up staying. The trump memorabilia made me lose my appetite.

We were staying in the area because of a wedding at San Rafael. Novato just seemed to be the best place to stay. Our of all the places for breakfast in the downtown area, it seemed like this place was the most popular. I loved this small family joint serving diner style food. We ordered the cornish beef, which was amazing and the chicken fried steak. This was great and the portion sizes were amazing. The food also came out really hot. It is a cramped joint but we loved the vibe inside and the decor. My only knock was that the hash browns were not that crispy. Also, the price was pretty high for a diner joint, but we were happy to support a family business. The servers worked super hard and were all extremely friendly. Just a note that the food does take a while to come out, but it was well worth it. read more

Utterly disgusting!! First, it took a very long time for our order to be taken and even longer to receive our food. When the food arrived, we were not impressed at all! The hollandaise sauce with thick and clumpy, my bacon was burnt, my son's sausage was burnt and there was barely any cheese in his omelette.... But the topper was when I went to try the hash browns, there was a long light colored hair in them! I literally pulled the hair out of my mouth! Beyond gross. I let the server know and she told the kitchen and then, one of the cooks called me out in front of the entire restaurant asking about the hair and he didn't understand because him and the other cook have short hair and going on and on... IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!!! My son and I were humiliated! I can't believe it; he was blaming me for the hair when one of his servers had long light colored hair and she didn't have it tied back. Been coming to marvins for 30 years. Will never be back! They shoved my pregnant wife and 3 year old into a corner seat saying they would move us to a 4 top as soon as one opened up. As soon as one opened up, they must've changed their mind somewhere along the way. Instead of giving us the table as the woman told us, they sat down another group of 3 who they claimed had been waiting 20 mins...if they were waiting 20 mins and we hadn't even placed our order yet, that speaks more towards your terrible customer service than anything.
