Extremely underwhelming and poorly executed food. The seared ahi tuna had no sauce, seasoning or any flavors to speak of. Very bland and dry. The side of asparagus was very over cooked and limp. If you put a knife or fork on it it disintegrated in mush. The other side, mashed potatoes had the potato skins in it as part of the mashing. This turned the texture into shoe leather bits. The manager- Guillermo was extremely unprofessional and rude. We ordered a side of chicken which came out really chewy and prepared unwell. When I asked our waitress if we can replace it or not get charged- she said she'd take care of it. Then our bill came to our table with Guillermo not the waitress. And he said it's not our fault you didn't like it. And I was like it's $7.. it's not like I'm asking you to replace a grand meal.. He was gross and had a long pinky nail and was arguing with the customer (me with my 8 year old child) I don't know any restaurant not even a fast food chain that does that. - your restaurant needs help. I think the place changed ownership, but honestly I'm not disappointed. We've made Toast a tradition whenever my mom and I drive up to Petaluma or Santa Rosa. I used to get either a breakfast pizza (which is still on the menu) or a smoked salmon bagel (no longer on the menu, although I could be wrong.) This time, we came in for dinner and noticed that the majority of the decor and style is still there, including the toast-like walls...but there are some new-ish banners with pictures of the food on the walls. Although I can appreciate their effort to show us what's available...it's not necessary because I think the food speaks for itself. I ordered the burger with fries. It tasted exactly like a burger should taste: a beautifully golden bun with some sort of delicious aioli, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, caramelized sweet onions and a perfectly cooked, juicy savory burger with melty cheese. The fries were well done and not at all greasy. My mom ordered the breakfast pizza which came with a chipotle (I think) aioli, scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon on top. The crust is what's super special, because there was zero sogginess in sight. It was perfectly crispy. It seems that the menu has taken on more of a Mediterranean direction, so kudos to the new owners for making the menu their own. My only request: please offer the blue cheese fries and garlic fries I used to order! That would have been a delicious addition to my dinner. Our server, Magdalena was attentive and very sweet. The place was mostly empty which luckily meant the service was super fast, but its a shame that people are no longer filling up the joint for dinner. I hope to see this place thrive. read more

Came to check out a place next to it but got sucked in by the menu, and I'm so glad we ate here! Our server was super nice and attentive and made us feel very welcomed! They have happy hour Fri-Sat 3pm-5pm which worked out great, so we could order a lot of stuff to try! Crab Cakes - 10/5 stars - great flavor and paired with the best sauce! The sauce is a lil spicy but I was able to handle it Sauteed eggplant - 5/5 - went incredibly well with the pita!, it's light in flavor with the eggplant in the forefront Margarita Pizza - 10/5 - the crust was crunchy which I loved! We came here for a family lunch. The food was ok, service was decent but a bit slow and ambiance was all over the place. I'd recommend taking down the banners on the walls with menu items listed and focus on making the space more inviting aesthetically. Maybe making the menu a bit smaller and more focused and doing less things really well rather than a lot of things just ok. This place has great potential! read more

Came here for a late lunch around 4:30 with my coworker. The space is quite large with high ceilings, which makes it feel even more open and airy. Aside from one other guest, we were the only ones dining in at the time. I have to say, the prices are on the higher side -- I ordered the penne pasta and my friend got the Thai beef salad, both around $26-$27. That feels a bit steep, especially for a salad, but then again, it is Marin. The pasta was decent, though I would've liked a bit more flavor. My friend really enjoyed her salad. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Would I come back? Probably not. While the service and ambiance were nice, the food didn't quite match the price point for me -- but my friend would likely return. read more

Been coming here for years. Today was my last visit. Not only were the food and service absolutely terrible, but found out that the place adds a mysterious 4% "surcharge fee" to all bills without disclosing anything upfront. When I asked, the waitress said "that's the restaurant, I think it's the credit card fee of 3%". Well, the fee was 4% and was not disclosed. They removed it from my bill. Illegal all over. I usually would eat up to 3 of Toast's salads during the week, but sadly their menu makes that harder to enjoy. Nearly every salad is loaded with cheese or meat, leaving vegans and vegetarians with next to no options. No tofu, no mushrooms, no real plant-based protein substitutes - just disappointment. For a restaurant in 2025, this is unacceptable. A simple option to sub in tofu or remove cheese should be standard by now. Instead, it feels like vegans are an afterthought here, if considered at all. Vegetarians and vegans: beware - Toast may look fresh and modern, but the menu is far behind the times. That said, I would love to see Toast step up and offer plant-based proteins and more flexible options. If they do, I'd gladly update this review and happily eat Toast's salads. read more

After a couple disappointing trips to the Toast in Pleasanton, we decided to stop at the Novato location. The food was completely different. So much better. It had been a couple years since I had visited Toast due to moving out of the area. Although there are some changes, all of my favorite foods are still on the menu. For dinner tonight I decided to have a bacon and egg pizza. And I have to say, the crust is one of the best I've ever had. It was so delicious, and I'm already looking forward to the next time I can come back. Magdalena was our server and she was so welcoming and made sure several times throughout our visit that we were doing great. I have lunch with my grandson on Sunday. Ordered avocado, toast and hot chocolate. About 20 minutes after leaving, I was stricken with the worst case of food poisoning I ever had. Since the lunch was very bland, I can only surmise that it was a food handler who hadn't washed his hands. I think the restaurant should be re-educating their employees about the importance of sanitation. My mother and I went there to have lunch. We ordered the crepes. I had mushroom she had pesto chicken. These were the WORST tasteless bland food I have ever had! The crepes were dry with no flavor of any kind. It was so dry and bland that I ordered hollandaise sauce to try to make it edible. Guess what....that also had ZERO flavor. We didn't even eat the food it was that bad. When the waiter came over he noticed we didn't even eat it and asked if we like it....we said no it wasn't good at all and had no flavor. Came for Saturday morning breakfast. Ordered an omelet and the corned beef hash. I am not an egg eater, so the waiter allowed me to substitute fruit for the eggs that came with the corned beef hash without an additional charge. Food portions are quite large. I finally got here for an early dinner when it was open (after several times showing up on days they were closed). There was only one other table with patrons in the cavernous dining room and the server was not very attentive. The avocado toast was massive, simple, and fresh. The bread was great. The quesadilla however was not made with love. It tasted like something a college student would quickly scramble together for a study session with packaged ingredients. We were gathered for a birthday with friends and enjoyed our brunch time meal on the front patio of Toast. Yum! Each of us commented that our order was the best we've had at the restaurant. The (see pictures) salads had just the right amount of dressing and were full of grilled chicken and other good fresh ingredients. The more hearty dishes that ranged from steak smothered in onions and sauce to great south of the border eggs and chorizo were more than most of us could eat. A great spot for Breakfast/Brunch! Oddly enough, I only go here for the earley meals but I'm sure the dinner service is great too. I often take visitors from out of town, friends, my car club and of course my wife here for breakfast regularly. The eggs benedict, Huevos Rancheros, Corned Beef Hash, Chicken Fried Steak and Omelettes are great! Pro Tip: If you are hungover, go for the turkey chili and eggs. Trust me. The service is good (at peak times it can take a while) and the atmosphere is unique (inspired by toast). I like to sit outside if possible. Many people bring their dogs and sit outside. They offer wine/beer so if you want a mimosa or a wine based bloody that is possible. I like to get there early and avoid the crowd. Enjoy! read more

First off, I don't believe in giving businesses anything less than 4 stars. I have some stuff I'd like to say though so here goes. I've been here twice and the food is so-so. Typical Marin Novato fair. Today I came here because I was having an emotional week and my mind kept thinking about me sitting on this patio eating a so-so overpriced meal admiring the sunny Novato spring in a manicured patio with fountains and duck statues. I knew the food here was "regular" but there's something about having a bad week where it feels good to allow myself this particular experience. I can sit here with a mocha (which is the most delicious thing I've had here btw), (or a Bloody Mary if you're so inclined) and people watch and stare out into the vast parking lot. So I appreciate this place from that perspective. For whatever reason, I had to come HERE. And so I fulfilled my irrational wish. I believe that everything has a place, and this place for whatever reason fulfills this particular need. Seating-5-Tons of seating, intimate 2 tops up to large party tables Wait staff-4-Pretty good, not much interaction other than seating, delivery of food, and picking up check. Speed of Service-4- Pretty average, not a long a wait but the place was not very full. Food-5-Definitly great food, I had the French toast and it was great. The fruit seemed fresh, and the bacon was perfect (and by that, I mean crispy as ordered!) Ambiance-4-It's a little overwhelming for a breakfast/lunch spot, there is a huge "box" suspended from the ceiling and corresponding decor throughout. Price-3- A little high in my opinion, the French toast was amazing but not necessarily $17 amazing. Total for French toast and bacon was $25.65 with tax, opinions vary... Overall-4- The food was great, the environment felt a little sterile, and the price was a bit more than I expected but again; the food was GREAT. Haven't been to Toast in years. Heard it was under new ownership since I was last there so I decided to try it again. I'm so glad I did. It was amazing!! We were greeted immediately and our drink order was taken. We decided to split a Greek salad. It was excellent! Fresh and crisp. Next up was my chicken kabob. It was so flavorful and the chicken was tender and juicy. The saffron rice it came with was so light and was just great. The baked tomatoes gave the meal the perfect touch. My guy ordered the fish and chips and couldn't stop raving about it. It was fresh and tasty, and served nice and hot. We sat outside because it was a beautiful night. What a great time we had.
