A friend shared Alexis's classes and I realized the session was already three weeks in. I texted Alexis to check if she thought I would be okay joining during week four, with no formal salsa lessons under my belt. She was super responsive and reassured me I'd be fine and I could do a private lesson to catch up. And she was right! This is the perfect learning environment for anyone who is new to salsa and/or dancing. Alexis is a talented instructor - she is patient, kind, and always encouraging! She is skilled at creating a friendly group learning dynamic where we learn and have fun. I've enjoyed the experience so much that I'm planning to return for the next season. It seemed expensive considering most studios allow for one free class to get a sense of the teacher and overall vibe, but the reviews were good so I thought I would give it a try. The class was wayyyyyy too full and we were very disappointed in the instruction. It was too packed for the teacher to engage the kids and was generally chaotic and stressful. the fee included all of the props required for the class, but it was just a bag of dollar store crap - couldn't have been worth more than a few bucks. For $85 they can buy and maintain their own props for the students and keep them at the studio. We were really disappointed and didn't even take our second trial class.

We asked them to create a dance for us that started off slow and romantic and then transitioned to something fun and higher energy that would reflect our personalities, and they totally nailed it! The best part was that each lesson didn't feel like a lesson, but just a really fun date night activity, which was a great break during the wedding planning process. They helped us grow in our confidence! They were both extremely patient and always answered any questions we had. It was also helpful to have 2 people, with Krista demonstrating my part and Kevlin demonstrating my husband's part. So many of our guests were impressed by our first dance! They offer lessons every Thursday for salsa (8pm) and bachata (8:50), but you can skip both and just show up for the "social dancing" piece. Parking wasn't a problem either. There's a lot in the back and street parking. You may have to circle around for a bit but nothing too complicated. Right on Ventura Blvd so you can grab a drink at a local bar (even though they have a bar inside) and dance it up on the dance floor. Why not 5 stars: - I called ahead, twice, to ask about coat check since it was a chilly winter day and I didn't want to worry about my belongings and was told that there was no coat check.
