You could say I'm a long time customer lol! I came in about ten years ago to get a gnarly tooth chip filled when I was a kid, and their filling lasted this whole time until only a few months ago because it turns out I've been grinding in my sleep this whole time!!! Fast forward to a few months ago and after a decade of wear, tear and grinding...the thing finally gave in, so they've already got that going for serious quality of care; by this point in my life I was already seeing another dentist, and while he's great for complex work, he kept making my chip repair way too thin to live with (and I was being fairly cautious most of the time)...so I figured 'you know what? I oughta see the dentist that fixed me up first!' And today I did just that First of course the office itself is very nice, incredibly fun train-themed decor (including an actual ticket booth and a ruby's style model train running around the ceiling), a tv playing classics I remember from when I was younger, and an Xbox in the other room, also the staff and doctor herself are all very nice and were super understanding and patient But more importantly...my tooth feels the best it's felt in ten years!!! I brought my almost 3 year old daughter for her first dental visit and she did great, no tears. I prepared her well ahead. The dental hygienist had far better bedside manner than Dr. Pearose. I agree with some of the other reviews that Pearose comes across condescending and lecturing. I found her ignorant. At the end of the visit, she went to put a q-tip with fluoride on my daughter's teeth and my daughter got scared so I said "it's okay it's not going to hurt you". Pearose looks at me and says "mom we don't say the word hurt. They don't hear the "not" they just hear hurt". Took everything in me not to say something to her. First of all I'm an RN with a background in ER. I know how to handle a child and as a mom I know how to speak to my kid. Never tell a good mom how to speak to their own child. My daughter may be young but she does understand what that means. I have taken the time with my daughter so her understanding, vocabulary and ability to express herself is specific to her not all kids her age. Don't be so ignorant to ignore that. Pearose has no place to judge my daughter's understanding based on her umbrella understanding of child development. Don't ever speak like that to a parent in front of their child especially when it is not warranted. She also went on to offer her opinion and suggestions I didn't need or ask for. My daughter is turning 3 soon and she uses a pacifier occasionally at naps or bedtime to fall asleep, but my daughter understands when she officially turns 3 we will stop with the pacifier. Pearose made some judgy remark that she would have stopped that a year ago. Well they do make pacifiers for up to 36 months which is what my daughter uses. So I guess she's not the only one. One of the basics in any healthcare related setting is assessing existing knowledge or information before spewing out suggestions that are not wanted. We left the visit and I thought on it for a few hours and it still irked me so I called and asked to have my daughter removed from further reminder notices because we won't return. The office denied that there were other complaints similar to mine but according to YELP that's not true. Clearly this dentist is burnt out working with pediatric patients and it shows. read more

This is probably the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. I brought my son in for a cleaning and because he was having tooth pain. The hygienist cleaned his teeth for less than a minute, obviously not thoroughly cleaned. Then the dentist came. She was condescending and rude. She recommended work that would cost me $5000+, and when I said I couldn't afford that, she suggested I go to a DENTAL SCHOOL!!! When i inquired if the work could be done in intervals so I could pay small amounts at a time, she refused. I have since gone to another dentist, and she got the work done for $500. SEEK A SECOND OPINION! We saw Dr. Pearose with our three-year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with decay by our general dentist in/between her two top front teeth. Although our daughter has had pleasant experiences with other health care professionals and dentists Dr. Pearose's staff was unable to obtain x-rays in her office with our daughter. After an exam that lasted as long as singing the "ABC Song", Dr. Pearose sat us down and "broke the news". She said that, based on her exam, our daughters mouth was "full of cavities". She said the top front teeth needed baby root canals and she was also sure the bottom two had decay. She said she was pretty sure she saw "shadowing" (decay) in the back too. She said she'd need to put our daughter under IV sedation for three hours ($1600.00) to get x-rays and do all the extensive work that was going to need to be done. My husband and I were flabbergasted. I asked her about ANY other alternatives. She said there were none. None. It seemed extreme to move forward with such risky, drastic treatment so we sought a second opinion from another pediatric dentist in Laguna Hills. Our general dentist who'd referred us was also completely puzzled about the diagnosis/treatment plan we were presented and also encouraged us to get a second opinion. Well, it turned out that Dr. Pearose was completely 100% wrong. The other ped dentist had a wonderful, confident staff who easily took full x-rays which revealed (as our general dentist had initially diagnosed) there was decay ONLY in/between the top two teeth. Her mouth was NOT full of decay. IV sedation was NOT necessary. Our daughter (very successfully) had her top two teeth filled (no root canals) and crowned (with oral sedation and nitrous only). The care we received at the other pediatric dentist (she shares a beautiful, large, fun office with her husband who is an orthodontist) was phenomenal! I SHUDDER to think how many parents subject their children to UNNECESSARY CARE and EXTREME measures under Dr. Pearose advice. I'm not sure if it's for financial gain on her part (the practice was empty when we were there) but I thank God we didn't listen to her and sought a second opinion! Please do the same thing. Seek a second (or even third) opinion... for the sake of your child. read more

Brought my son for the first time to the dentist. Dr Pearose was recommended to me by my dentist who is nearby in Lake Forest. I was happy to know that we have a Peds dentist in lake forest. I was impressed by what I saw on her website and decided to make an appointment for my son. The receptionist on the phone who took my info was very pleasant and helpful. I loved the office. It is 100% targeted to kids in every way. My son got to pick a Netflix show to have on when he was in his chair. Miguel RDA was absolutely amazing. He was very patient with my son for he was quiet and shy to be in this new environment. He read over our chart before we arrived and quickly knew that my son's favorite cartoon was Paw Patrol. Miguel did a great job explaining all the items he was going to use in his mouth and everything was explained in "kid friendly" terminology. Dr Pearose was also great with my son and made him feel at ease while she examined his mouth. She addressed all my questions/concerns and overall made the visit go smoothly. After we left I asked my son, "So what did you think of the dentist?" His response was only one word...."GREAT" (with a smile) toy and balloon in-hand!! We're on board the Dr. Pearose train!! It's unfortunate the prior review was the first. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but Mrs. My-3-year-old-has-tooth-decay got it ALLLL wrong! I took my 9 year old (ADHD) son, who has had traumatic dental experiences in the past, to Dr. Pearose and he LOVES her! I LOVE HER! As a mother there is nothing more comforting than that. I trust Dr. Pearose to provide the same care with my child as she would with her own and she does. Every. Time. My son has no problem having treatments now without me being in the room. I only wish I had found Dr. Pearose sooner! The office itself is even phenomenal! From the moment you walk in the door it's a dental experience like no other. No "Under the Sea" theme here! The whole office is beautifully decorated with trains in mind. There's a train running overhead all around the office. There's a play area for kids with video games. Beautiful hand painted murals on the wall. There's even TV's overhead so the kids can feel at home while getting their pearly whites are cleaned. My daughter adores Dr. Pearose and her staff! I personally am deathly afraid of dentists. From years of dental work I can't stand going in for even a basic cleaning. However, I did not want this fear of dentists to happen to my daughter. When searching for a dentists I stumbled across Dr. Pearose. I am so glad I did! Her office is a kids dream with trains going overhead and tv's over the chairs (which yes, I know is more common now but to this mama was pretty cool). The staff made my daughters visit very comforting and explained everything to both her and myself. Her first visit was when she was 5. After X-Rays and cleaning they showed me that she had tiny filings needed and went over how Nitrous was a better option vs a shot and why. Also explaining to me how certain foods (that I thought were good for her) were not helping her teeth. They went over good brushing habits with my daughter. Dr. Pearose also helped me get my daughter to give up her blanket sucking (which was affecting her bite) by calling in the blanket fairy (who we all know is a close cousin to the tooth fairy). It worked that night and have had no problems with blanket sucking again. Such a lifesaver for this mommy! My daughter has gone back every 6 months like clockwork! She loves going to the office and has no anxiety at all. Her dental checkups have been positive and my daughter loves to take care of her teeth. All thanks to Dr. Pearose and her staff. I brought my kids to Dr. Pearose and they had a blast! As soon as you walk in you see trains up above you! My kids loved the trains. The whole office theme is trains so you see beautiful murals of trains throughout the office. The staff is really nice. They make you feel at home and made my kids feel comfortable. Dr Pearose came in on Christmas after our son fell off his bike and lost 2 teeth. Because of extensive damage to the rest of his mouth she called in her husband, Dr Vaughn to perform oral surgery. Dr. Pearose treated my daughter's cavity and throughout the whole process her main concern was that my daughter had a positive experience. She did go above and beyond to ensure that. Needless to say, my daughter did handle everything quite well due to their efforts. She left the office fine and no complains at all! I am uncomfortable going to the dentist, and she came out as if the whole thing was a treat! Anyway, I did ask her if she knew what was done, she said her cavity was fixed since she heard the drill. When you walk in, you are warminly greeted by the front office staff, and the trains running over head. The staff was very kind and good with our child. She made it into the "Cavity free club"! My 5 year old son can be pretty difficult to deal with and it's amazing how great they are with even the most non cooperating child. My son had a couple cavities and they were able to take care of them and he didn't even know. They do an absolutely wonderful job and are great at staying in contact to check on your children to make sure they are ok even after their appointment. Let me start by saying that we had a wonderful experience in the office with Dr Pearose and her staff. That being said I decided to schedule an another appointment for my youngest. It happened to be scheduled on a Saturday which is about the only time I can make it since I'm a full time working mom. Well something came up and when I went to cancel and reschedule for a future Saturday, I was told I was no longer welcome to come in for Saturday appointments. Do to the fact that I had canceled on a previous Saturday. Wow! That's a new one. I guess we will be finding a new dentist office. Update: Thank you to Kim for reaching out from Dr. Pearose's office. I asked multiple times to confirm that all services will be covered by my insurance and I want to be informed in advance if there are additional charges. A month later, I received a bill of $28. "Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts." I took my 2 children to the dentist. Dr. P's assessment of Child #1,10 years old: - Treatment needed for the beginnings of cavities on two upper molars. Doctor advised us to return for fillings. Nitrous oxide (not covered by insurance, costly) would be used on this 10 year old. When asked about alternative options for putting fillings in, there were none. She showed me how her explorer catches on the grooves of the teeth. She asked if I could see it. I said no, I could not see it catching. I was assured he needed fillings. - Sealants prescribed Doctor's assessment of Child #, 7 years old: - No cavities. - There is a gum flap behind one tooth which needs to be taken care of before he gets sealants. It sounded like this flap was due to swollen tissue that was irritated. Doctor instructed us to do Salt Rinses 3x/day or more for a week to get the swelling down. This would remove food debris to no longer irritate the gum and reduce swelling. Then return in 3-6 weeks for sealants when the gum was out of the way. A week of salt rinses got underway much to the dismay of my little guy. I got in touch with our previous dentist to find out why the kids hadn't been given sealants already. I told him about the visit above. He said if Child #1 had cavities, he would have seen it at our last visit. He asked to see the kids to confirm what's going on. I agreed to allow him to see the kids. Second opinion of Child#1: - NO CAVITIES at all one one of those molars which Dr. P was going to put a filling in. Not even the slightest. No treatment needed whatsoever. He was baffled why anyone would want to put a hole in this healthy tooth. - His teeth have deep grooves naturally, so that was apparent on the other molar. However, he said, "Either my explorer is dull or there is no cavity here." The explorer was not catching. I told him I noticed the same thing at Dr. P's office. - He suggested that he slightly widen the deep groove on that one molar. A very minor procedure. No anesthetic needed and certainly no nitrous oxide. This child is a very calm, well behaved, mature kid. Nitrous was out of the question. He put a sealant there. Not a filling / hole in the tooth. These are permanent teeth. We want them to last a lifetime. - We did was he suggested. It all went very smoothly. Second opinion of Child #2: - That gum flap is completely normal as the teeth are coming in and not a result of irritation. He said no salt rinses were needed! My boy was not happy to hear that. The way the mouth works is, when the child bites down, the upper / opposing teeth will bite on that gum flap and over time, it will go away. That is how nature intends it. - This boy has very flat teeth without deep grooves. No sealants needed. More importantly, he said other doctors may prescribe sealants just for the money even if the child doesn't need it. (He does them on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of the child.) I like how at other dentists, the parent is able to sit inside the treatment room with their child while they are being worked on. From now on, I will insist on it. It is not hard to find a dentist who will allow or encourage it such as the "second opinion dentist" we visited. ... After this visit, I cancelled our appointment for the following morning which was going to be the sedation & fillings of my first child. I also made sure to drop a note to the office before posting this review, saying that I got a second opinion which was quite different from what Dr. P prescribed. There were no questions asked about what that might mean, no probing for further details. So, I decided to post here. You can decide for yourself what this all means. I do understand that a dentist can not please everybody (nor can anyone). I, personally, prefer a dentist who errs on the conservative side rather than taking a more aggressive route with my children's teeth. At the very least, I would encourage any readers to seek out a second opinion before deciding how to proceed. Unfortunately, most people do not do that. I was in a unique position to receive a second opinion. It is a hassle taking your kids to the dentist twice but it can be very much worth it! To be fair, I gave this office a star for having a modern, clean facility in a good location and a friendly, competent front office person. However, we will be making the drive to visit our former dentist in the future. I hope this review is helpful. read more

My children have had 3 visits to Dr. Pearose's office and each time I was extremely impressed. First of all, the office is beautiful and state of the art. The trains, video games and TVs all make it seem like the kids are going there for fun. They don't even mind the dental part of the visit!
