Long term customer of this business. Or should I say former customer…read more I've spent tens of thousands of dollars here, and have dealt with Kenny and Jeff for years. I always considered them a shop who stood by their work, and honored their quotes. I never thought they'd be the type to commit funny business. On 6/21/2021, I followed the same procedure I always have, and called them for a quote before sending a company vehicle in for service. Kelly quoted me for a 2016 Silverado 2500 transmission fluid drain and filter change. Estimate was $200.00 - $250.00 in labor, and around $100.00 for parts. Should be right around $300.00 to $350.00 right? I then checked in with other shops we work with. South Side wasn't the cheapest quote I got, but I ended up choosing to bring it to them based on: 1) our prior work relationship and 2) the quote being about $100.00 cheaper than the local Chevrolet dealership. Now, imagine my shock when my worker brings back a receipt for $590.89. Nearly double the quoted amount! $351.92 of this was just in labor - and mind you - they had the truck for just 2 hours - from 2:30 PM to 4:31 PM (Closing Time). $175.00 in hourly labor for fluids work? When I called to ask about the bill, both Kelly and Kenny blew me off and pretended I didn't know what I was talking about. We have 10 company vehicles, 11 years in business, and a large annual maintenance budget. I'm not a mechanic, but I know enough to tell when something wasn't right. It's even easier to spot something not being right when I had the exact same service done, on this exact same truck, 45,000 miles previously. For about $350.00. Further, this isn't close to the first time I've had billing issues with this business. On three separate occasions, I've had to call and have funds credited back due to misbills on tire repairs (charging for 5 tires instead of 4, charging for 7 tires repaired instead of 4 tires, etc). I always chocked this up to harmless mistakes. Now I'm wondering if my judgement was just wrong this whole time. Moral of the story: consider picking a different shop. If they are willing to treat long-term customers as poorly as they did me, I have no doubts they are willing to do more to a small time one.

Unlike other times I have used AAA for towing requests, the business who would be assigned to come to tow me would call, their tower would identify who he was, where he was coming from, and how long it would be before he arrived. The 40 West guy never called to let me know he was on his way, where he was coming from, or how soon it would be before he would arrive. All he brought was attitude. I had borrowed a car from a family member and was at the location within 10 minutes (if not less) after calling AAA ... AAA told me the tow truck would be at the location within 30 minutes -- maybe that is their standard estimated time they use when a tow is requested or maybe the girl I spoke to did not know the correct protocol? I don't know. When I arrived at the facility that had my car, the tow truck was already there. I went inside to pay my bill and get my car key. I was warned by the employee at the location that the 40 West driver appeared to be upset because I was not there when he arrived. I walked out to his truck and apologized for him having to wait and his reply was a smug "whatever" with a shrug of his shoulders. His attitude only went downhill after that. He wanted to know what was wrong with my car and if payment was going to be by cash. I explained my car problem (not that he needed to know) and why I needed it re-towed and I would pay with a credit card. He shrugged again and he added "I was told you were paying with cash." I felt the need to ask if paying with a credit card was going to be an issue. He replied, "No" and what cards he would accept, but his attitude spoke louder than words. He proceeded to move his truck (roll back) and positioned it behind my car. As he backed my car onto the roll back and worked to secure it, another person from the facility where I had my car, came out to quickly speak to me. While I was busy talking with him, the 40 West driver got into the truck and simply left without me. I had no idea where he had gone or which route he took. I quickly got into my borrowed car and drove quickly to the garage where my car was to go, hoping he would be there. Upon arrival, he was there along with his attitude. Other unfortunate issues took place once at the garage (additional charges for mileage that had to be explained and settled), but his attitude and rudeness did not wane toward me or toward the receptionist at the garage. To say he was very unprofessional is an understatement. I have never used 40 West in the past (they were not my choice, but assigned through AAA), and after this experience, it is highly unlikely that I would recommend them. I was already upset about my car having an issue where it had to be re-towed, but to have this guy show up with a MAJOR attitude that continued through the entire time I had to deal with him, did not set well with me, hence the need to post this review.

After the diag, she needed a new serpentine belt and some other things. I get it; shops gotta charge for shop fees and labor, totally understand that. Here's the fraud. They charged her $82 for the Serpentine belt. (Typical Serpentine Belt prices are $20 or less, even for a premium belt). This belt is available at $10 on RockAuto.com and $15 at Autozone and Walmart. Even the most premium belt I could find from a large parts store was less than half the price they chard us. I called them and asked where they got the belt from- Advance. Advance sells the belt to consumers for $32- no auto repair shop in their right minds would pay the same prices charged to walk-ins, so I know they definitely paid less than $32 for it. But EVEN at $32, $82 for a serpentine belt is 156% markup on a part that Advance delivered to them at no additional cost Never going to The Lube Center, Auto Spa, or Frederick Auto Repair again. I can absolutely confirm that they are frauds.
