The sandwich was huge, filling and decent, but not fantastic. Service was attentive and friendly. I looked very jealously at the huge salad that was being enjoyed by the patron at one of the 3 (edit: 4, not 3) tables and then looked equally longingly at the waffle her lunch companion was devouring. The menu is simple, but oh so tasty and really does have endless possibilities with just basic, fresh and tasty options to mix, match and combine. The waffles are fresh made and oh so damn good. They're Liège waffles and, until you have Liège waffles, you haven't had the best. You can fill them or top them or BOTH with everything from nutella to blueberries to chocolate to pecans... and so much more! There's lovely espresso drinks, even one with Ken's made from scratch gelato in it... DECADENT! Breakfast sandwiches can be created to your liking, or simply chose one of the great concoctions they have assembled. Breakfast tacos are a plenty, as well. Lunch? Oh, Mary's has got that covered, honey... there are grilled wraps that are mouth watering delish, as well as lovely salads. Oh, and that gelato I told you about that Ken makes? Mission find gelato pops in Austin: success! Mary's is a super cute & hip cafe located about a 5 minute drive out from campus. Their menu consists of everything - from breakfast tacos, to waffles, to coffees, and don't forget the gelato pops. What I've tried: - Salted Caramel Iced Coffee (2/5): I always order salted caramel at every coffee shop if they have the option, but this was mainly syrup, not so much coffee. I probably wouldn't order coffee here again. - Peanut Butter Pig (4/5): Yum! Banana stuffed waffle topped with peanut butter, sliced bacon (!!), and sliced bananas - Berry Mary (5/5): I was told that people order this the most and I can definitely see why! This is blueberry stuffed waffle topped with sweetened cream cheese and sliced strawberries They make everything in-house and the waffles on the spot which is a-awesome! This locally owned cafe is super cute and convenient for those living in the area and needing a quick breakfast or lunch break. The menu consists of a variety of healthy and hearty options, and the staff will accommodate to your needs well. I originally came in with a Tastebud purchase, but because of a miscommunication between the two businesses, my voucher didn't work like it was supposed to. Nevertheless, the friendly manager(?) gave me all the food I ordered for free. Such nice people, especially since I ordered a smoothie, coffee, AND breakfast taco! The bacon, egg, and avocado breakfast taco the staff made me was delicious, warm, and fresh. The Jane smoothie was a healthy way to wash it down, and the coffee was a great kick start to the day. This is a pretty cute place, and sort of in a very random location near campus - I never would have noticed it if my friend hadn't told me about it. It is sort of a random restaurant with sort of a 1960s diner feel. There is an entire wall covered with pictures of "Mary's", which I found to be a cute twist on the restaurant's name. I heard the story of who Mary is from my friend, and it's super touching - ask the owner next time you're in! I tried the gelato here, and it was pretty good - they handmake all of their gelato in the store. The chocolate chocolate chip is rich and delicious. The mint chocolate chip and cappucino flavors are a little bit lacking in flavor. The gelato has a really "sticky", pull-apart texture, almost like eating cake batter, which I find to be interesting! I'll be sure to be back to try the gelato pops & waffles and the various breakfast sandwiches (there is one involving cream cheese and strawberries, and it is definitely on my radar). Since I've been in Austin, I've been actively looking for my "go-to" places, where there is good service, reasonably priced food, good vibes, and where the food is delicious every time. Mary's is that place. I'm very particular about my restaurants and this is the first restaurant I've found in Austin that I want to keep coming back to. My girlfriend and I go there almost every Sunday. It's a small space, but we always find a table because there is quick turnover. They make a great bagel sandwich and latte every time. Decided to check this place out based on some other Yelp reviews and the fact that it was really close to campus. It's a small little hole in the wall. The day I stopped by there were a handful of people at the little tables and a single, very nice woman running the show. I ordered a salad to go (Old City?) and was really impressed by how fast she was able to put it together for me. When I got home I opened the to-go box to find a lovely salad of mixed greens with slices of apples, pecans, dried cranberries and some bits of cheese. The dressing was tasty and a good addition to the salad. I love a good salad, like "love it so much I want to marry it" love. This was a good salad. Not the best I've had, but worth coming back. I can't believe it took me so long to make it over here. My pregnant self had been craving only sweets (I'm a chips kinda gal), and I wanted waffles - really good waffles. Mary's got 'em. I like to make my own, and I really appreciate how fresh the bananas are. You know you just don't want mushy bananas on your waffle. That's disgusting. These bananas (and strawberries) were totally fresh and the perfect texture for the waffle. BUT: This isn't just about waffles. Don't sleep on the egg bagelwich. Get there early for your choice of Rockstar Bagel. I hate to say this, but Mary's makes a better bagelwich than Rockstar. We've had this catered several times at my workplace and it always arrives promptly and they set up everything for you. The breakfast tacos are my favorite, actually they look like cute mini burritos. They offer several options including a few with avocado in them, which is my favorite! Both were absolutely amazing! My girlfriend ordered a waffle and hers was just as good too! My waffle consisted of Chocolate syrup, Strawberries, Banana, and whipped cream. Amazing combo! :D My breakfast sandwich was called their Avocado + Queso Fresco + Fried Egg it's a fan favorite and I see why. It was awesome! Fresh and delicious. Had their lox sandwich and it was great. Waffle was delicious too. Would drive out of the way for it. Despite being very busy everything came out fairly quick. The only feedback I'd provide to consider is 1. use names to call out orders (waaay too many people were waiting for the same type of waffle), and 2. Ventilation, I think they were so busy they had all their paninis and waffle making machines on OT that it was a bit smoky inside and it burned my eyes a bit. You MUST go here for waffles. I honestly don't know how they make these waffles dense AND fluffy at the same time, but with some good things, you just don't ask. Waited in line to order, there was 7 people in our group so we had 2 people go to the counter to order 7 of the SAME exact bagels to make it easy and pay on one card and the guy at the counter told us we could not order for another person, each person had to be in line to order. I made it early to this cafe and am so glad I gave this place a try! I have heard so many wonderful things about this place and must agree with every single thing I have heard. The manager is so great and patient and the food was made fresh to order, within a reasonable time frame, despite how busy it was. They took the time to bring my smoothie to me and I must say the Jane smoothie and the Olsen are my two favorites. For lunch I ordered the Rachel with broccoli cheddar soup. So to recap: 1.
