I really love their donuts so we wanted to try their sandwiches. Got 2, the Californian (turkey/avocado) & pastrami w/provolone. They come with either chips, macaroni or potato salad. Yes, they do use quality ingredients and it was fresh. Our total for 2 sandwiches and 2 donuts was $45. Not sure if their donuts or sandwiches warrant the price tag for me personally, but they are open 24hrs. read more

But I must say that Mary's doughnuts hands down some of the consistently best, fresh tasting doughnuts I have ever had! Tonight we got to Mary's Donuts at 5:30 to find a sign that said they were on break until 5:15. We waited until 5:50 and the worker on break was sitting at the table ignoring the number of customers at the door. Not normal for this establishment. Something as simple as an updated be back time sign goes a long way. The owner explained the situation in his response. An updated sign would have cleared up all the misunderstanding. It was just bad optics for the person on break to be visible from the door while customers were knocking and they ignored the customers as if they weren't there. I had a very bad experience this morning (October 27, 2023) at this location (Lakeside). I usually make a stop at this place every Friday morning and buy two dozen of donuts. I love sharing with my coworkers at the office. They like the donuts from this place (Mary's Donuts). Today Friday October 27, 2023, as every Friday, there was not so much variety of donuts showing to the public (compared to the rest of the week. I have been there a Tuesday or Wednesday for buying a dozen). Behind the glass, many empty spaces where trays should be placed. I don't know what happens on Friday's morning around 6:00 a.m. but every time you get that door around that time you won't find so much variety behind the glass. However, they have a vertical cart with trays full of donuts, donuts that are not shown behind the glass and should be placed to fill out the empty spaces for customers have more options to choose from. Well, looks like there was no priority to offer/show customers the different varieties they had. So, after choosing my donuts I still had more donuts to choose to complete my two dozen but I didn't see nothing else behind the glass that cached my eyes. However, I saw different kind of donuts (the ones placed in the vertical cart) that I wanted to buy but they were off customer's limits. So, I asked the lady that took my order why they don't fill those empty spaces behind the glass with the donuts that were in the vertical cart, in that way, I and other customers had more options to choose from. I pointed to those empty spaces behind the glass and asked her where are the donuts that supposes goes here? The lady got upset at me and told me: "We don't have more donuts (and the vertical cart was full of donuts-different varieties), and she also said: "if you want a specific one you have to ask for it", and I just said: "Really? Are you telling me that I have to ask for a donut that is placed in that vertical cart far from the public when you have all these empty spaces behind the glass? And I asked: "Why you don't fill these empty spaces with those donuts shown on the vertical cart?" She didn't say nothing else and pretended she wasn't listening anymore what I was saying. This lady was very unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful. I refuse to think this is a racism issue, but I don't see any other option. Why did she treat me in that way? When I entered that business door (Mary's donut) there were four other customers in front of me waiting in line and I didn't see any of these ladies treating them in a rude and/or unprofessional behavior (these four customers were whites). I'm an African American citizen that recently moved to Lakeside, California and as we all know Lakeside is a white community and very well known by its racial problems. I thought this racist issue was left in the past, I thought this racism in Lakeside was just a myth, but unfortunately, the racism in Lakeside, California is real, and still there. Donuts and sandwiches from this place are really good but customer services don't. read more

First of all I want to say we love Mary's Donuts. We begin going to the original Mary's Donut's in Santee in 1985. We moved to Alpine and now we go to the Lakeside Shop. We always purchase 2 apple fritters . Today was no different. A girlfriend and I stopped there to get our husbands their same as always apple fritters. As my girlfriend gave her order, I pipped up and said they are burnt. They should be a golden brown color and these are dark brown like the color of dark chocolate. She got it anyway and we tried it. It was burnt and awful. We told the young cashier and she explained, "Each baker does their own thing". We returned 4 hours later to get fresh apple fritters. Well what a disappointment, they too were burnt. The cashier agreed with us and said, "They have a new baker". All the other donuts looked delicious. We will return. read more
