I love a good pumpkin anything and Mary's Donuts has the niche in making a very good pumpkin muffin. The muffin was very flavorful and soft and moist. It was a little gummy towards the center, as if it needed a little more time in the oven, but it was still great. The lady at the counter was nice enough. She was a little rushed because of the line, so I got that. I did not see any inside or outside seating at this location as the one in Santee offers.

We went in for a quick pickup of a dozen donut for an early meeting. There wasn't anyone in line on a Sunday morning. Everyone liked the fresh and tasty donuts. Friendly service too!

I've only been to Mary's a few times for donuts. So today I came it for a sandwich and an apple fritter. Maybe it's just because I'm not a regular but all of the workers always act standoffish. Never a greeting when I've walked in. I take my time to look at the sandwich menu and the lady at the sandwich register leaves. So I scoot down, looking at the donuts they have. The donut cashier stands there until I ask about a certain donut in the case. She answers and I order the donuts. I ask, "Do I need to order my sandwich at the other register?" She says yes, but rings it up anyways. I get the California sandwich and two donuts $25.89 with tip. Asked for Jalapeño bread for my sandwich, didn't receive that, no biggie, I can live with that. Sandwich was a little bland. Plain turkey, provolone, mashed avocado, sprouts, tomato. I will have to add a little garlic salt and pepper to the other half. Now, I have been to Mary's before for the Apple fritter and it's been okay. But today, 12/4, my fritter tasted burnt. Not like a little crispy burnt, like burnt to the point that it's the only thing I can taste. Either burnt or they are using really old oil? It's hard to say. Maybe it was a rough morning for production but to burn, then also put out product for sale is never cool. I'd be more understanding if they said they didn't have fritters because they burnt them. Overall a disappointing third and last try at Mary's.

I've always been a fan of Mary's Donuts, but never more so than now! I want to give a LOUD SHOUT OUT TO JOEL AND BROOKE, and the rest of the staff! They have been generously donating donuts to Ukrainian refugees every morning. Cannot thank you enough! You are truly blessing these courageous people! read more

I first found out about Mary's Donuts when they were in their original location. Then they moved into a new location in Santee. I enjoyed stopping by the Santee location until they put one in Lakeside. Now they are closer to my house! I love what I call the "White Fluffy Clouds". But all of their donuts are really good. I'm about to be moving and I wish I could take them with me. read more

I like this place - I wouldn't say I absolutely just love it and have to get my donuts ONLY here. While I'm East county though- yes! This is the best in this geographic area - always fresh and good variety and value. They are an east county staple I see being there for many more years to come. I would have given Mary's Donuts a 6th star if I could. I have been eating the donuts at Mary's for over 20 plus years at the older location in Santee. This was my first visit to the Lakeside Shop. The building and shop was quaint and set up nice. I always get the Apple Fritter and a few extra delights. Hands down the best Fritter I have had anywhere. Always the same, never failing. Melanie was wonderful and so very patient with us. She is the reason for the 6th . Plenty of parking in back. Nice short walk to Lindo Lake and Community Center. Great spot. We will be back very often. read more

I added Mary's Donuts as a last minute addition to my wedding on October 20th, 2018. Stormi was amazing from the get go and the tasting blew me away! Everything was so tasty it was hard to choose! I am so happy they were able to work with me last minute and add these in! They were all so delicious!! We got 16 dozen donut holes (4 dozen if each flavor), 8 dozen mini donuts, and 4 dozen apple cinnamon creme puffs! Thank you! read more

If only they had A/C in there when I tried it, they would get a 5 star rating. Donuts are fresh and delicious and they are open 24/7. So many flavors to choose from. Give their donut holes a try too. Probably the best donuts I've found around San Diego . read more

We found this place while driving through town on way to Julian. I love lemon filled donuts and Mary's was quite possibly the best lemon filled donut I have ever had! Hubby had a chocolate long John and he loved it also. We bought some donut holes also and look forward to eating those later. The donuts are light and fluffy almost melt in your mouth. The lemon filling was real lemon did not taste artificial. We are not from this area so really happy we found this place! read more

Let me say that Mary's donuts went way out of their way for me. I live in Tacoma, WA. My parents live in Lakeside. I wanted to send my dad a dozen donuts and one of the giant big ones for his birthday. Even though Mary's doesn't deliver they did that for me and my father. Not only was he surprised but he said they were delicious. They didn't have to deliver but they did and I can't be more thankful!! Especially Stormy who said she would make sure it got done!! I was at the PO in Lakeside today and saw Mary's Donuts & Deli. Never have been in here before. Ordered The Heap. OMG delish. Two hands necessary to hold this sandwich. Fresh bread and ingredients. Including Mac salad and a pickle. This sandwich is so big I will be able to eat on it for two days. Very nice people working here. Thanks for making my day tasty!!! Merry Christmas! read more

Ive tried thier twice i will never go back, its worth the drive to Country donuts by jack in the box. I was treated poorly as was my kid when i went to pay and the donuts are not as fresh as country! Very cranky staff i really dont care how tired you are! We just came to eat! read more

Here we go now for the fifth time. If you're open 24hrs., have some damn donuts in your case at 8pm. Great selection on donuts at 11:30 pm. Baker was also filling racks of fresh one's. The only thing that was lacking . Was the personality of the old woman behind the counter. She seems like she's miserable being there. I work in a customer service industry. I wanted a apple fritter but, since they only had blueberry and raspberry fritters. I asked which one is most popular since I never had either. She shrugged her shoulders. Then after I picked one she rung me up spun the keypad around and said have a nice day and walked off as I finish paying with card on keypad. Kinda rude. read more

I had been to Mary's several times before today and never have i ever been talked to the way this woman spoke to me in the service industry. It was the first time My grandmother has visited us from out of town and i could not wait for her to try Mary's Donuts. We proceeded to check out and my grandmother asked nicely "are you Mary?" Her response was "do i look like an 85 year old woman?" as she rolled her eyes. I had to tell her my grandmother isn't from these parts and she had no idea. I couldn't believe she had spoken to her that way. It breaks my heart that the one place i wanted to take her too wasn't a good experience. Hopefully she can step up her customer service skills. read more

Unfortunately that all changed when Cat came to our table with another server named Mimi and said that she was going home and Mimi was taking over. The service immediately went south. Mimi was 180° from Cat. She was not very friendly, not enthusiastic, not attentive and seemed very low energy. We watched her walk around the floor several times yawning with her mouth wide open no attempt to cover it up, this was very offputting. We waited 20 minutes after Cat left, and Mimi never came by our table to ask us if we needed anything. She appeared to be ignoring the entire section. She spent most of her time standing over by the wait station or talking to customers at the bar (which I assume we're not her customers). The only reason we were able to order another round is another server that was not working our section came by and asked us if we needed anything. When Mimi finally did come to our table, we just asked for the check so we could pay and leave. The name on the check was Miranda so I'm not sure what that is about. We did also observe that the two bartenders who were working seemed to be cut from the same cloth as Cat, as they were friendly, engaging moving around quickly taking care of those sitting at the bar. If we're ever back in the area and decide to try again, if we see Mimi is working, we will either leave and go somewhere else , or maybe try to sit in someone else's section.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, with only a few tables indoors, but there are additional tables available outside. My wife and I decided to try a couple of their sandwiches--the Cubano and the Greenbird. Both were absolutely amazing! The flavors were on point, and we really enjoyed both sandwiches. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and trying some of their other sandwiches. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Repeated Damaging Behavior Is Hurting Your Business!!! Organized boycott being proposed and talked about within our small community. Dear Owner " im sorry I dont have your name, I asked the awful human very nicely and proffesionally but I was rudely ignored. This person represents a major problem within your company and definetly takes the win for your establisments most detrimental, toxic, mindless hazard and degenerate of an employee working graveyard and is a very real and strong problem and poison and company killer on your current payroll . Lets call her "marys secret poisnous graveyard employee" the ineptitude is baffling. I'm writing with deep concern--not just for myself, but for the future of your business, which I believe still holds tremendous potential. What's happening right now, though, is quietly but effectively destroying that potential from within. There is an employee currently representing your company whose repeated actions are undermining everything your business could and should be. And this isn't just coming from me; I personally know multiple people who have had similar negative experiences with her, and the feedback in our community is unified and is consistently negative and shocking. My goal in this review and direct letter is to include you in this conversation happening within our community and also outside of it. My objective is to inform you on what people are all seeing and experiencing: Lets start, she's dismissive, unhelpful, avoids selling products, refuses to problem-solve, childish, dishonest and conducts herself in a way that's both unprofessional and completely out of alignment with any healthy business standard and is completely inept and very obviously and also widely believed by experience with many patrons as not able to mulltitask at all. What's worse is how she actively shut me down when I respectfully asked for your contact information. That kind of avoidance tells me she knows what she's doing wouldn't withstand your scrutiny. She's not protecting the business--she's protecting herself, at your expense. Here's why this matters more than ever: Toxic employees cost businesses significantly. According to a Harvard Business School study, one toxic employee can cost a company over $12,000 in lost productivity, turnover, and reputation damage--not including the ripple effect on other employees and customer relationships In family-owned or small businesses, these effects are magnified. A 2022 study by SCORE (the nation's largest network of volunteer business mentors) found that 60% of small business failures are tied not to competition or location--but to internal dysfunction, poor hiring decisions, and failure to remove underperformers. One bad hire can lower productivity by 30-40% in small team settings. Even worse, it sends the message to other staff and customers that mediocrity is tolerated--and eventually, people start walking away. Let me be clear: I am not just complaining. I'm also offering you a real alternative. This shop could be thriving. I would take the job and bring it the care, skill, and professionalism it deserves. I've run donut and sub shops before. I understand quality, service, and efficiency. I would represent your business with pride and turn it into the successful, respected establishment it has the potential to be and would be if you actually terminate her employment. You deserve to know what's happening before this continues to chip away at your brand, your revenue, and your community trust. Customers talk, and unfortunately, many have already walked away because of this infamous employee on your pay roll harming your revenue and sales all when your most likely asleep. I'm really dissapointed about my experience at this store. I ordered two dozen donuts for a potluck at work, placed the order in the morning, and paid right away. The cashier was super nice and told me they'd make fresh donuts for me, even wrote down how many I wanted and what time I'd be picking them up. But when I got there, a different cashier wasn't friendly at all. I told her I was there to pick up the donuts I ordered, and she just grabbed some old donuts and started putting them in the box. I reminded her that I was promised a variety of fresh donuts and that I had already paid for them. She just said, "I didn't get the order. I don't know. It only says 2 dozen holes. You should have ordered 'various kinds of donuts'" and was really rude about it. I explained that I clearly told her what I wanted, and I don't understand why I even bothered placing the order in advance if I was just getting old donuts. She kept insisting she didn't get the order and then just shoved the box at me. She didn't apologize at all, just gave me a dirty look and had a bad attitude. This isn't the first time I've had issues like this. Some cashiers really need to learn how to handle customers better and be more friendly! read more

First- the donuts they make are excellent. Second- the staff is friendly, with only two of the many employees being average to below average at customer service. Third- the one star? How does this make sense? Simple. I watched a man be denied entry at the door because he didn't have a face mask. EXCELLENT!!!! But then why would taller blonde g female employee during the day shift wear merely a token face mask? Where it doesn't cover her nose and she regularly pulls it down so her mouth is no longer covered. Then later the same day in the early evening an older female employee wears a face mask that doesn't cover the nose. (And didn't use gloves like the earlier employees). What's the point then? While I understand if you wear glasses, having a homemade face mask can present a fogging challenge. These are the issues a business owner MUST work though to ensure the safety of staff and employees. This place has what I believe may be potentially unsafe practices that could put you and your family at risk during the COVID. *** update 9/4/2020 The cooks don't wear masks or gloves and breathing and talking over the donuts their bringing out.
