I will no longer be visiting Mary's Donuts in Lakeside. I called about 3 weeks ago to talk to the owner or manager. I wanted to see if they would donate or give a discount on 2 dozen donuts for our Quilt of Valor ceremony honoring some of our Lakeside Veterans on November 12th. I never got a call back, 6 days later I called and spoke to a young man. He asked me to hold and I could hear him talking to a young girl, she said "what does she want" the young man had already told her why I was calling. He told her again and she said " just get her phone number." She was very rude! Then at the ceremony I talked to someone who said they quit going there because they are always rude to her. Just to let you know I went to Country Donuts the lady was so nice. She gave us a big discount and added 5 more donuts. Sorry Mary's donuts we will not be back and those at the Ceremony today said they won't be back either. BIG LOSS! Have to check a star to rate, there should be a 0, I had to check 1 star. read more

The doughnuts are delicious at this place. My parents owned a doughnut factory and bakery when I was a teenager so that is hard to beat, but the food here is so fresh and delish. They gave the seniors graduation from El Cap gift cards which was very nice. They have our business from now on. read more

Mary's Donuts in Santee continues to be a class act in donuts. Not only are the donuts melt-in-your-mouth amazing, but the employees are friendly and customer-service oriented. When I was at Mary's tonight I once again had outstanding service and I received a delicious chocolate raised donut (pictured) which they made specially for me because I love warm donuts and the nightshift seems to have more time to be sweet to the customers. I only saw this because I was across the street at eastbound. I went in and was amazed as to how big the place was and how many selections there were. I have always been partial to the maple bar but as a kid the place I used to go called heavily donuts also had them creme filled which i haven't see for decades. i asked the clerk there and she said for an extra nickel she could fill with lemon, creme or raspberry so I took lemon which i love even more. I was in heaven so to speak and will probably go there from now on especially since they will fill them which hardly anyone else i know will do, not even krispy creme does it singley that, which is sad . Variety of types like traditional, old fashion, cake, etc. They even make a jumbo donut that you can customize for a birthday party with a day or two advanced notice. The old location had so much familiar nostalgia, that I am sad to see it go. So many Saturday mornings taking the kids for donuts in their pajamas. But alas, progress? I guess so. The new location is fine, though parking is more of a challenge at times than the old one. But it is soooooooooo worth it. The donuts taste just as good! Kids favorites are the cake donuts with sprinkles and the jelly filled. Mine are the maple twists and old fashioned. But by far, the best are the apple fritters. I was ordering donuts with an order over the phone and then asked the young lady how many that was when I picked a few and she gave me a nasty look and said, "oh you want a dozen?" Most places will sell you a donut that's been sitting ther for 12 hours and say nothing to you. These guys will tell you if they've been out more than 2 hours! They even have a military discount which many places don't. But, you do have to ask for it. Can't compare them to Crispy Kreme, because they're totally different styles all together. I really like Mary's donut's, but today was disappointed. When have you gone to a donut house and there's no "Chocolate" donuts. I wanted a Chocolate Cake donut. Asked the staff if there were any in the back, she looked over her shoulder and said no. Didn't even go in the back and talk to the baker. I tried the Red velvet, but just not the same as chocolate. Disappointed for sure. I like the "Cream Puff's", just wish they had Lemon on a regular basis. Lemon is the BOMB... I heard the stories about how this is a copy of the original mary's in santee and all the drama behind the name. Fact of the matter this place makes donuts as good as the original mary's. The bacon maple bar falls in the category of one of the best things I have ever eaten. When I went There yesterday the attendant picked through a tray and gave me the one with the most bacon.
