New York is inundated with French-style pastries, and it seems that croissants and their various iterations have a chokehold in this city. It is nice to see a bakery that offers something other than what's currently in vogue. Masa Madre offers sweets you'll often see at a panaderia. Their star product is the concha, a brioche-like bun filled with compote and topped with sweet craquelin. I tried their holiday concha, designed with Santa Clause's signature suit. The bun was soft, and the berry compote was a good balance of sweet and tart. The craquelin added a nice crunchy texture, adding another layer of sweetness that wasn't overpowering. Overall, I enjoyed what I tried, and I welcome anyone seeking a respite from flaky croissants to give Masa Madre a try.

Mas Masa Madre, por favor!! I dragged my sister and niece to come with me last week and we all loved it! I love that there was twist on the classics but also new treats. Also was surprised by the bread options. The fancy desserts were tempting! Especially the "Ferrero Jose", I want to taste the twist! I ended up picking a spiral treat of croissant dough with the classic chocolate concha paste swirled in. I also ordered a small coffee and a Rajas tamale for later. The lady in line told me they were so good here. There's a few tables to sit at. The door handle is shaped as a croissant. The staff is super helpful and nice. I'm so happy to finally make it and can't wait to return. Also need to try out the tortas! I love me a Latin sandwich! Also will have to take my parents when they visit next time!

Small, cute, and homey. The person behind the cashier was really nice. She answered any questions I had. Most bread pastries there have sour dough. It just smelled amazing in there. The bakery has classics like conchas, but they also had modern mixes on Mexican classics and European pastries. I felt like a kid in a toy store. If bread is your weakness you'll love this place. I got a coffee, a chicken tamal, a cinnamon sourdough loaf. The loaf was amazinggg with my coffee. I had the tamal at work and omg it was really good too. It was pretty big tamal. I would definitely buy it again. In addition I got a seeded sourdough loaf and a sourdough croissant bread pudding. Both looked amazing. I eat through my eyes. I'll update when I have those. UPDATE: seeded sourdough is amazing one of the best loafs I have ever had and I buy fresh bread a lot

Back for more! They did a special in October - pumpkin spice cream concha - and it was incredible. I also tried the mango and passionfruit tres leches, which was good, but the conchas are where it's at. Next time: I need to try the doughnuts and tamale! Upping to 5 stars.

Very cute bakery! Had a decent variety of treats close to closing but definitely worth stopping by for a concha or two! I grabbed some tamale too that tasted great but also weren't too good but satisfied well! I hope to be back again for more fresh goodies and even to have a seat and enjoy everything! The seating is great in the small bakery with the kind worker!

Masa Madre is a new Mexican Artisnal Bakery in Sunnyside Queens. What a fantastic addition to the neighborhood! They offer a large variety of baked goods, as well as some savory items. There are two tables inside for Dine-in. Masa Madre had great customer service and I felt the warm welcome! Loved the croissant door knob! lol Masa Madre offers a large variety of baked goods as well as some savory items. Their plain Concha ($2.50), was wonderfully light & fluffy, yet deliciously crunchy on the outside. This was my first time having a Concha and I am a new fan! They come in different flavors, and some also have cream fillings! There were so many tempting items at Masa Madre that I couldn't resist ordering additional items. The regular brewed coffee ($3.50) was good. I also ordered an almond croissant ($4.50) and a tres leches dessert ($5.50). Both were phenomenal!! The almond croissant was HUGE!! The Tres Leches dessert was perfection; so satisfying without being too sweet. Looking forward to a return visit! There were so many different items to try. They also have savory dishes as well. I'd like to try their tamales next time! Welcome to the neighborhood, Masa Madre!!

Masa Madre is located on 46th St, off Greenpoint Ave. Metered Street parking if driving; school on the same block so watch out for schooldays street signs. 7 train- 46 St /Bliss St stop; a few bus lines as well. Three tables only indoors. Maybe can be a bit brighter inside. Tried a few things so far. I like their breads. $2.50-4.50. Some looked simple but were tasty/sweet enough as is, shareable, and for me they're very good for coffee time like: Concha and Chocolate concha- sweet spongey breads, which I liked to dip in my coffee; Mexican chocolate croissant; Aguacata - has anise, brown sugar sweetened; Banderilla and pan de queso. Dessert items: Conchitas with vanilla cream - concha with fluffy cream and not too sweet. Mango passionfruit tres leches - soaked just enough so I like the texture; the fruit flavors are in the cream on top. Piedras (The Rock) - shortbread but was dry and a bit hard, like it's name. Mexican hot chocolate ($4) was ready- made. Creamy and cinnamony but too sweet for me. Noticed they have Tamales so got the Green chicken ($3) and Chapin pork ($5). Both meaty, flavorful but chapin was saltier. Asked what Guajolota was- it's tamale inside baguette bread, which I was told is another way tamales are eaten in Mexico. $6. Tortas prices range from $13-$15. Maybe will try these next time. Service was great. I asked a few questions on each visit and the employees were very pleasant and accommodating.

Was tired of buying Trader Joe's sourdough so gave this place a try. Omg, their sourdough is phenomenal! Crusty on the outside and so soft on the inside. Only buying my bread from here moving forward. Highly suggest it!

I went to Masa Madre Artisanal Bakery in the afternoon to pick up some yummy Mexican bread. I picked up three chocolate concha's, three Mexican Chocolate Croissants, and one concha with raspberry filling inside. The service was excellent and quick. I took a minute or two to regroup myself and decide what to take home with me. The ambiance is cute with small limited seating inside and some seating outdoors. I have been here one other time beforehand and honestly I loved their Mexican bread. The taste is just superb! 10/10 Mexican bakery

Masa Madre was unfortunately disappointing albeit I really wanted to love it. I got several items from here where most of the items inside were burnt/not cooked completely (kind of ironic if you think of it). I didn't enjoy any of the items that I got but I wish I did & wish the business the best of luck as the employees were really kind.

This bakery was a nice put stop. Picked up a tamale, coffee, a chocolate donut and mini concha. Service was fast and the gentleman was helpful and friendly. It is a nice bakery with display cases of their products and open kitchen vibes. The concha had whipped cream and a dollop of cream in the middle. Made it sweeter and fun to eat. The chocolate donut was delicious, but nothing out of the ordinary. I got a Rojas tamale, it was mid, it was too mushy for me, I prefer more of a solid mush if that makes any sense. I would give it a try again if I was in the area.

I came here for a visit since I heard a lot of positive things and the item that I came here for was just OK but the items that I bought just by the eye test turned out to be really good. The food: Dulce de Leche Buttercake- I thought this was made really well, I really loved the buttercake aspect of this but the dulce de leche part came off too sweet to me, glad they only put a small amount of the dulce de leche. I really enjoyed the buttercake part a lot but if they had like a raspberry version or strawberry, I would be there everyday lol This reminds me of an upscale version of the Pepperidge Farm Verona cookies and I love the Verona cookies. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=e1TVq_6hgfedxRAgtbW7GA Pastel Gloria- Guava and cheese. The one thing I have learned is that guave and cheese makes so much sense. I think the first time I had this combo was from a famous bakery in California called Porto's and it is really an amazing combo. I thought the one here was excellent, the guava was sweet but not over the top and I really enjoyed the bread part of this pastry. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=ajxeXyAZJU_8VCpcoQrJDQ Vanilla Concha- This was the reason I came to the restaurant and while it was fine, it came off kind of boring to me. It really reminded me of a Chinese Bolo Bao. It was nice and airy with a nice crispy top but I think this came off a bit bland to me. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=9LzIgKzRhyMdT6vQY1drpQ
