I visited Mediterranean Foods right before Christmas, so there was a huge holiday rush in the store. While it is a short walk from the Astoria-Ditmars (N) station, there is also a small parking lot manned by a valet outside. The store was absolutely bustling when I walked inside, and I was particularly impressed by the fresh-pressed olive oil fountain section. I only came for phyllo dough but I will definitely be back for some olive oil and pastries. read more

I've had to stop shopping here because the cashiers are engaging in deceptive business practices. One cashier in particular, overcharged me for bakery items, in addition to charging me for more items than I purchased. For example, I purchased one loaf of bread and she charged me for two when she thought I wasn't looking. When I called her out on it, she acted fake-surprised and pretended not to understand what I was telling her. Customers beware - if you aren't Greek, watch the cashiers when they ring you up because they will purposely take advantage of you and charge you a non-Greek "tax". read more

The supermarket has a little bit of everything including some produce. They also have a great variety of baking needs, I would say a lot more than most local supermarkets. They have many Greek delicacies here and they also have a bakery section with some divine sweet and savory items for purchase . Around the holiday season, you'll find the infamous coin cake available . This supermarket has such a great selection in the area, and the prices were super affordable (ex. I got cans of Harissa here for 1.55$ each while at another store they would have cost 2.00$). Moreover, everyone, staff and customers, were really smiley and kind. It made for a great shopping experience that was low stress. BUT since Titan closed, these guys raised their prices through the roof, and keep raising them often, AND they now have the lowest quality food items. For instance, their own packaged lentils for $2.25 a bag: I spent 1 hour to select and remove stones and insect infested beans and throw out about 1/3. SAME garbage lentils that I got last month, 4 months ago and 6 months ago. Told them. They don't care. Same thing with other bean items and other stuff we buy there. Some are almost expiring too. I know that it is expired because the greek and bulgarian lays chips are always the European date. Last time I bought chips it was expired 23/04/21. I will never come here again. I listed various meats and cheeses, "sorry can't do that" to each. "Can't put soft cheese in a sandwich" Can I have ham, Munster Cheese & butter? He asks "Mustard?" No! (I hate American mustard) "Ohhhh, OK" I get to work, open my sandwich on day old bread I find mustard, no butter, cheap ham and, well the cheese was always going to be rubber. Three men couldn't remember three ingredients between them. So bad service, bad ingredients, bad product! This area has way too many places to go than this waste of time... A Greek grocery store in Astoria??? Who'da thunk it??? Seriously, this is an amazing supermarket. I usually come here when I need an olive fix. They have a fine assortment of olives: whole, pitted, and stuffed. In addition they have an assortment of Greek/Mediterranean goodies: tzatziki (yogurt dip), tarmasalata (caviar dip), stuffed grape leaves, baklava, a variety of olive oils, various cheese (yes, including feta), breads, baked goods, sweets, and a well-stocked deli. The staff is pretty good. The people working the cash registers are friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. I went there with two containers of different olives from the olive bar. The cashier knew on sight what was inside the containers and got the proper price. I'm only about 10 minutes away by foot, so I don't drive here, but there is a small parking lot. It's usually crowded, but if you wait a short bit, somebody will get out. So, if you are in dire need of Greek soul food, Mediterranean Foods will definitely take care of your edible complex!!! read more

I was able to buy some great extra virgin olive oil from Sparta. Purchased some incredibly inexpensive lump charcoal, great feta, lovely and spicy pickles that included cauliflower, olives, and some sweets. The store is located in a small mall with ample parking. This place is great. I always buy some of the imported spreads that they have from Greece. Very tasty. I did not know that there were tons of different feta cheeses, but they are. All good with different flavors. The olive bar is heaven. Every time I buy some olives here I think of my dad. He loved olives and they have a broad selection. I like the ones stuff in garlic, the large ones with pits, the roasted peppers. You cant go wrong with your selection. Remember to walk down each aisle, you will certainly find something that you will love to taste. This is not a regular market. This is a specialize store for Greek and Mediterranean Foods. 31st Street in Astoria/LIC has a number of Greek and Mediterranean markets between Broadway and 23rd Avenues. Mediterranean Foods II is located in a small mini-mall just a couple of blocks north of the Triborough Bridge, with a butcher and bakery conveniently in the same complex. My partner and I stopped at this location looking for a specific brand of olive oil. Unfortunately, I didn't find it, however, they do have a good selection of oils at extremely good prices: Some of the 3 liter cans were going for $15! What a bargain! There also have a great assortment of canned Greek food. I ventured to buy a small can of grape leaves stuffed with rice, which was excellent. They were so tender and delicious without being drowned in oil or tasting greasy, which is my experience with the ones in restaurants around Manhattan. My partner was also impressed with the variety of sardines available; he bought three incredibly fresh types for our dinner that evening. There's also a small assortment of cheeses, but none which really impressed us. There's much more to the store than I remember, but I'm sure I'll elaborate when I get the chance to visit it again. Yesterday I stopped by to buy olives and feta and I was disappointed to the point that I have to write this review. I DIDN'T PURCHASE FETA I BOUGHT WATER! It doesn't taste as feta by the time I got home and opened it it felt apart. It doesn't taste as feta it landed straight to the garbage. The paper that was wrapped in was soaked in water and felt apart. It's not worth for me to go back to the store and return it I spent $5 on water! I'm starting to doubt the quality that they sale. Parking is available as well . Impeccable selection of imported items! Many different types of fetas( dodonis is my favorite ) kaseri etc . Very nice olive bar . The freezers in the front have frozen spinach pies, cheese pies, cream pie( bougatsa, and not just any kind but BOUGATSA THESSALONIKIS and it is AMAZING and tastes just like it does back home in Thessaloniki ! ) Also in those freezers they have spreads , eggplant spread, tzatziki,fish eggs spread , tirokafteri (which is spicy cheese spread ) and a few traditional dishes . Finally found the Kesso Greek yogurt here that I had been all over Astoria for, and it was SO worth the nearly 5 miles of walking that I did seeking it out! This store has such a great variety of items, both Greek and general-Med that you would want. It is a nice size, clean, and staff is friendly. The Kesso yogurt is made by Kesso Foods in East Elmhurst, which is not on any subway line, and it is SO good, so thick and flavorful (but expensive, at $3.99/lb.), and you will find it here. The store made tzatziki is great, also. Take the Q (elevated subway) train to the last stop, Ditmars Blvd., and the market is about 1.5 blocks away. read more

It has a wide variety of canned and bottled Mediterranean products, including an olive oil bar. You can select your own olives -- they must have about a dozen kinds, which you can sample. Took a trip out here today to investigate this place and Titan Foods. I was disappointed by this store. First of all, know that it's a fairly hefty walk from the 30 Ave subway station to this store. Two whole stops, and it was raining. We passed Titan on the way, and since I wanted to check them both out, we passed Titan and headed to Mediterreanean first. The store was smaller than Titan. The feta was not any cheaper, except for their "special" feta that was just under $4/lb. The store was empty and there were 2 guys behind the counter. Neither wanted to wait on us. They gave a taste, and then turn their back and disappeared. Had to pester them to get attention. No one was else was buying anything, so why couldn't they be more attentive? I think they don't like Foodie-shoppers from out of the area. I think they prefer locals. Yes, the olives were cheaper than in Manhatta, but they weren't so great as Fairways either. Yes, the olive oil is cheap in cans, but you don't know how it tastes, and I really need fresh, good clean tastinng olive oil, which you would not be guaranteed here.
