Maybe the best cheesesteak I've ever had. And that's saying something, because i don't like onions. Yes, there was a wait (summer Sunday lunchtime) and yes it was hot and smoky inside. Yes, it is expensive. No, there is no customizing. One sandwich, take it or leave it. You go up, place your order, give your phone number, then go outside to wait. But what you're waiting for is something special indeed, and there's a lot of it.
The cheese steaks here are really freaken good! Flavorful and the size of this sandwich is worth the 20 or so dollars that it cost. The restaurant itself there is no where to sit its standing room only. You can enjoy your sandwich there at a standing bar little area. I got here before it opened. When we were finally able to be let in and I got my order in it was another 15-20 min wait. Which was a tad annoying. You will get a text when it is ready. They should also call out names.. what if your phone is dead? Anyways, also the music in here was good don't get me wrong but they should turn it down a bit. There is only one kind of sandwich they serve here and you have the choice of adding on the side sweet or spicy peppers. I got sweet and they made the sandwich that much better too. I was happy to try it out and glad I did.
Definitely on the higher end of the cheesesteaks you can get in nj/nyc. Is it one of the best definitely not but it's pretty dam good. And it's perfectly sized, not some overwhelming glob like most places. Lastly eating the sandwich with the sweet peppers is a must! Crispy bread seasoned meat not over done with cheese. Very good sandwich, worth trying

At first glance, I thought the bread might be hard, but it was perfectly soft and, without doubt, the ideal bread for a cheesesteak. The seeds added an earthy, nutty flavor. The beef had a deep, rich flavor, emphasizing high-quality ingredients. The rib-eye meat was exceptional, and although the Cooper Sharp cheese and bread were excellent, the rib-eye truly stole the show. The cheese was flavorful but not overpowering. The onions added great texture, and the sweet peppers brought a pleasant acidity that enhanced every bite. The sandwich costs twenty-five dollars but is definitely shareable. Though I haven't tried many cheesesteaks in New York, this is the best I've ever had. Customer service was excellent, and the cheesesteak was simply outstanding. I would gladly travel from Connecticut again to enjoy Danny & Coop's.
I thought I was getting in line an hour and a half early to get cheesesteak and realized I was in line for a different viral sandwich place getting French dip au jus elsewhere. No mind - I came here after a workout class and was there over an hour and a half before they open. I passed the time with games on my phone and before I knew it they opened and 10 minutes later I was eating what I was craving. It was perfect. Hit the spot. Unfortunately I think I started a line - but everyone I saw behind me had ordered by the time o finished my first half and turned around to head out. The guys working here were also VERY nice and tried to get me an extra cheesesteak around 10 as they were working on a large catering order. Unfortunately they made exactly the right amount so he came out to apologize for getting my hopes up. That interaction alone put me in a great mood while waiting.
YES!!!!! My first visit, finally. April 10, 2026. Do one thing, and do it well!! And Danny & Coop's does--THEY DO CHEESESTEAK VERY WELL!!! No decisions to make, this is the one item on the menu. You do have the option to get a side of SWEET OR HOT PEPPERS, for 75 cents. These are in a small container, you may ask for a fork. I did. I got the sweet peppers. Enjoyed them. If you like sweet gherkins, you'll enjoy the sweet peppers! It was Friday, about 4pm, I walked right in, saw some people waiting for their orders, and I went directly to the front counter to order. That's the only counter to order at. :). Tyler was at the register. Service with a smile. Thank you patient Tyler at the register. I was lucky you were there! LOL. I thought I was totally prepared with cash, to be quick when ordering, but alas, what I "knew" to be a $20 bill in my little zip wallet, was a $5. Have you noticed this happening in your Wallet? LOL. The $20 bill turns into a $5. So, I knew I had more $5's. I just had to get them out. And, I am grateful for Tyler, Mr Cool at the register. Thank you for your patience and kindness. I'm also grateful the 2 people behind me were nice too. I also want to thank the nice person who brought out several orders, one of which was mine. Great friendly, helpful service. You have the option to get a text msg when your order is ready. Nice feature. Since it was nice outside, I decided to walk across the street to the large park, and sit on a bench to enjoy my Cheesesteak. There is a bench in front of Danny & Coop's but 3 women were enjoying a Cheesesteak. They were sharing one cheesesteak. And it is HUGE!! So, those were still nice portions from one Danny & Coop's Cheesesteak. Next time I'll try to bring a friend, because I still have half of my Cheesesteak left. But, by the time I get home, I bet I'll be able to finish it. So, YES, you should enjoy a huge cheesesteak here!! See my photos. Bradley Cooper has a cheesesteak joint that people were lining up around the block for when it first opened? Say less! Had to try one of my favorite actor's spot. I went for the first time last year. Was there fairly close to opening time so the line wasn't insane. Ordered the cheesesteak with sweet peppers on the side. Pro tip: get your drink at the deli next door and eat at the park across the street. Fantastic sandwich. Generous with the meat and perfect bread. Was basically 2 meals for me. Went back my second time last week and price went from $18.50 to $24.50. Heard cashier said due to price increase of meat. I get it but that's quite a huge jump. Plus they now charge for the sweet peppers which sucks. Good thing the sandwich doesn't need it. I'd still get it if I was in the mood for it. Hopefully it's not $30 next time I go. Highly recommend.
I really didn't think the sandwich would be as good as it was but wow was I wrong. My friend and I split one with everything on it and I was regretting not getting my own by the end! Came mid day on a Saturday and there was only about 5 people in line. There are spots inside to stand and eat around the perimeter of the restaurant, and if you're looking to sit there's a park right across the street. Already looking forward to the next visit!
Came on a Tuesday at around 1. No line to order, but took around 15 mins to get the sandwich. Thought it was very yummy and that the bread was especially good! Also big enough to share.
Absolute fire cheesesteak so so massive it was spilling out when youd eat it. Got the hot peppers too which definitely made it so much better but it was great on its own regardless. Loved the bread a lot.
The sandwich is pretty good. The meat is tender, the onions are cooked well, and the cheese is nicely melted. That said, for $24.50, it should definitely be bigger. The portion is decent, but the price just doesn't match the size. It's tasty, but I'd expect more meat and an overall larger sandwich at that price.
The service was pretty good they let me order early . The cheese had good flavor, but I wasn't a fan of the type of cheese they used. Overall this is an open New York sandwich spot that encourages open setting communication

Is it worth the hype! Absof*#@ing-lutely! Could it be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had...yes it's on that list. Is it just a cheesesteak sandwich...maybe BUT...they bake their own bread which pairs perfectly, it's soft, with a perfect chew and the sesame is really toasty. Also from what I can tell, they mix the steak with the cheesesauce before adding to the sandwich, so EVERY bite is cheese-filled. It sounds like a small thing, but it makes every bite amazing! Option of either adding sweet, hot or mixed peppers. Definitely recommend to add one of those as the acidity adds a nice brightness to the sandwich. They open at noon and I went a little after and it was ~10 min wait to order and ~15 min wait for the food, so plan accordingly. read more

I'd always wanted to try this place, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I love the idea of a restaurant that specializes in one thing, and in this case, it's Philly cheesesteaks. You can add either sweet or spicy peppers, and we got ours with the spicy peppers. It was one of the best cheesesteaks I've had. My husband and I thought we'd have leftovers because of how big it was, but we ended up finishing the whole thing while standing there! We also expected the bread to be hard, but it was surprisingly soft and easy to chew. The atmosphere is very simple with only standing counters, so don't expect tables or chairs. We went on a weekday, and while it was busy, it wasn't packed. Our sandwich took about 20 minutes, and we noticed a lot of people had ordered ahead for pickup, so we'll definitely be doing that next time. read more

For an establishment that only serves one food item (literally - a cheesesteak), I am amazed how well it is done, even if it costs half of your life savings to eat one of these. The only modification you can make is if you want to add peppers on it. Otherwise there is nothing else. The steak comes with onions on a sesame seed roll (pretty sure it is Amoroso), and a sharp White American cheese (they call it something else but I forget). It all marries up to one amazing flavor, though I had to pick out many onions to make it happen. If I were able to get this without the onions, I would have eaten every last ribbon of meat. I made this known to the young man who was behind the counter and took my order. Do not expect any seating here. Just a few bars on the wall to eat your steak, and a small bench outside. That is all you get. But I get it. This is meant to be ordered and then taken to the park or back to your apartment to be scarfed. Unfortunately, I do not live in Alphabet City, so I have to make do with the long bar on the inside. The service here is super friendly and genuine. I really hope the staff here enjoys making the steaks as much as I enjoyed eating one. Because I cannot take out the onions, and out of respect for those who cannot eat onions (like myself), I cannot favorite it because that would imply I would like to return here. I went to Danny & Coop's for dinner, and it was fantastic! Definitely worth the hype and surpassed my expectations. Inside is cozy with ledges on the side to eat at, and service was very fast. I got my cheesesteak in five minutes and was excited to chow down! It was perfection. Not too cheesy, not greasy at all, meat perfectly tender. One of my best bites in the city! read more
Sensational cheesesteak. Authentic (cause I'm from Philly). Bread was excellent and they gove plenty of meat. Definitely worth sharing. At $25, it's a great price considering the other lackluster options in the city. Pro tip: get the sweet peppers on the side to cut the richness. There are ledges to stand and eat, and coat hooks too. Simple place with only one item on their menu. A cheesesteak, but a damn amazing one at that. You get a seeded roll with tender ribeye, cooper sharp cheese, and onions with an optional side of sweet or hot peppers add on. Zero substitutions. Honestly the perfect combination without feeling overly greasy, but crazy rich with the amount of cheese and steak you get. I'd recommend getting peppers to add another dimension to the flavors. Their bread also sets them apart from other cheesesteaks I've had. They are baked fresh in house daily with a nice crisp exterior loaded with sesame, but super soft inside and easy to bite into. The place was packed with people on a Sunday late afternoon waiting for their orders, but there was no line to order and it only took about 20 minutes to get my food. There is an overwhelming scent of smoke within the actual shop and standing countertops for those who want to eat in. I opted to eat on their singular bench outside in the cold to enjoy the hot masterpiece as fresh as possible. NY is lucky to have this establishment, easily a top cheesesteak anywhere. read more

Believe in the hype! These cheesesteaks are so awesome! I can't wait to go back! Only one thing on the menu here, cheesesteaks! Only option is an add-on of sweet or spicy peppers. Order at the counter and step aside to wait. When it's ready, your name will be called. There are no tables or chairs. Only some high counters, lining the walls. Decor? It's super casual. You are here for the sandwich, not fancy decor. There is a bench outside in front, if you need to sit. The standing room is small and narrow. They finally call your name. Rejoice! Open the box and the sandwich is pipping hot! Take a bite and you are in sandwich heaven. Ahhh... The bread is perfect, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. A generous amount of tender juicy beef. And luscious melty cheese all over, marrying with the beef. Awesome! It's a huge sandwich, enough for 2 people! Note: all sandwiches are made exactly the same, so don't ask for substitutions or changes. Only option is for additional charge, add sweet or spicy peppers. It comes in a tiny container, that you add on your own. This is the best cheesesteak around. Even better than anything in Philly! Great job, Bradley and Danny! read more

BLUF: A worthwhile visit. Danny and Coop's only offers Philly cheesesteak sandwiches for $21 ($22.86 with tax as of early December 2025), with an optional side of sweet or hot peppers for an additional 50¢ (54¢ with tax). The cashier asks customers for their name and a mobile telephone number. The store uses text messages to send links for receipts, and notifications for when orders are ready for pick-up. Our sandwich was delivered steaming hot, fully loaded with meat and melted cheese. The bread was soft but still strong enough to hold the meat through to the very last bite. The sandwich was large enough to feed two of us. This was one of the best sandwiches we've ever had. The shop has a nondescript storefront with a medium-sized sign hanging over the door and a wood bench in the front of the window. There is no customer seating inside the store, but counter-height tables and evenly distributed napkin dispensers line the wall if customers are willing to eat while standing. One of the few places that blew up from these shitty influencers that actually delivered. This was the viral place owned by Bradly Cooper and the owner of Angelo's in Philly. So I waited for the hype to die down and went with fellow Yelper Sara and we were both very impressed with the cheesesteak. We didn't want to be a bunch of fat asses so we decided to split a cheesesteak. I was saying half is more than adequate for one person since it is a big sandwich and it is pretty on the heavy/rich side. There was a line at 1pm on Tuesday but it wasn't terrible. They also take your number down and text when your food is ready. It is kinda pricey since the cheesesteak with half sweet and half spicy peppers came out to a little under $24. Cheesesteak- They literally only have one thing and the cheesesteak comes with cooper sharp, we decided to do a mix of the side of peppers to compare. The verdict is the sweet peppers, shockingly, were the better option. I normally would always go the spicy option, the spicy pepper felt distracting, I thought the flavor and especially the crunch from the sweet pepper paired perfectly with the cheesesteak. In the beginning, I was kind of a purist and ate the cheesesteak as is but it becomes too rich, the sweet peppers added a nice crunchy element and a nice freshness to the cheesesteak. This was an awesome cheesesteak but I did wish the bread was a bit crustier, the bread was pretty soft throughout. I and my son got the cheesesteak with hot peppers to go. The seseme bread is soft and delicious. The steak is mixed with small chucks of onions and held together with gooey cheese. It was nicely packaged for our trip home. I and my son loved the sandwich. The only choice you have with the sandwich is the choice of hot or sweet pickles. The hot peppers are actually hot. Music selection was on point. If you stay there are counters by the walls you can stand and eat. read more

(4.5 stars) Attention, Carnivores-- want a satisfying cheesesteak, don't want to drive to Philly, and it's a Wednesday - Sunday? you're in luck--Danny & Coop's got you. the small Alphabet City cheesesteak spot serves up an authentic cheesesteak in NYC. Danny & Coop's cheesesteak is thinly sliced/shaved steak grilled on a flat-top, the Cooper's Sharp cheese is super melty and glues the steak and grilled onions together in a freshly baked seeded long hoagie roll. order the cheesesteak with or without peppers served on the side (with hot OR sweet peppers)...the cheesesteaks are made one way no substitutions or anything. my thoughts: 1) delicious cheesesteak, overall and very shareable (I'd say bring a partner and crime to enjoy the sandwich experience); 2) a generous helping of shaved steak (spills out of the sandwich) is seasoned and grilled for a flavorful, juicy, tender with a nice balance of meatiness and fattiness; 3) Cooper's Sharp cheese melts smoothly and really has a strong cheddar flavor, but to me it comes off a little bit salty (not that it is too salty but it comes up to the line. it's just personal preference) but they don't skimp on cheese and its creaminess is layered throughout the steak shavings; 4) as many have stated, the seeded hoagie roll is the STAR of the cheesesteak as the bread possesses a nice firmnness, yet soft inside that doesn't get soggy despite the enormous layers of melted cheese and steak stuffed in the interior is small, modern and casual--no seats except for the bench outside. there are small ledges to eat at inside, but since the place is normally with full with people ordering or picking up...head across the street into Tompkins Square Park ordering is simple. lines move fairly fast bc sandwiches can't be customized. sandwiches take about ten - fifteen minutes from the time you order. staff text you once your sandwich is ready to be picked up. sandwich is boxed up hot off the grill and can be carried easily. service is fast and friendly as they need to keep the lines moving. PRO TIP: Wednesday and Thursday is way less busier than Friday evenings, Saturday, and Sunday. now you know! read more
This is one of the best cheesesteaks, I've ever had in my life. The place is a small joint, mainly takeout. They have a few counters to eat your philly but you can always go to park across the street to eat it. The philly rivals many cheesesteaks from even Philly. I've never had Angelos but after eating danny and coops, ive got to try the original. Ive had toasted bread sometimes be hard so i was a bit wary. But this bread was so soft and jammed packed full of ooey gooey cheese. The meat and the cheese with the onions. Artery clogging deliciousness. One cheesesteak can be shared amongst 2-3 ppl. NYC not typically known for cheesesteaks but if you are in the area, make sure you stop here. Easily one of the most delicious things ive ever eaten in a city that is abundant of good eats. read more
Fiiiinally got around to trying this much acclaimed cheesesteak spot! There's been quite a lot of hype for Danny & Coop's cheesesteaks, and I can honestly say...it's worth the trip. I came by on a Saturday around 5ish - little-to-no line to order, about a 15 min time to get your food. Simple process, very very friendly staff. There's some limited standing counter space and maybe a small table to dine in, but seems like most (myself included) planned to carry out. The sandwich - solid. A nice amount of meat and not skimping on that decadent Cooper Sharp, with a healthy amount of chopped onions, and that gorgeous, crusty in-housed roll. Delicious. I ordered a side of sweet peppers as well (I think it was like $.50 extra) - hot peppers also available, along with some drinks. Glad I could finally cross this off my to-do list - well worth it and deserves to be on the NYC cheesesteak short list. read more
