I ordered $50 of sushi. It came with soup and salad. The salad was ridiculously small; about 3 forks full. The salmon sashimi was like mush. The dragon roll tasted very fishy. I couldn't eat it. I paid for a side of eel sauce. It was watered down with soy sauce so it was as thin as soy sauce and tasted like soy sauce. All of this was very disappointing. People were friendly, but this is just not good sushi. We all ordered the triple sushi entrees and my first impression when seeing the meals, was not good. The color of the tuna and salmon were concerning...I have never seen fish look this pale, and a very artificial pink color for the tuna. It actually left a pink stain on the rice, like it was dyed. I have been eating sushi for 20+ years and have never seen this. There also was no taste to this sushi at all, very bland. Sushi for five is not a cheap meal. This is a wonderful restaurant with friendly staff. The service might be a little slow but that is absolutely to be expected when one is ordering specialty rolls. My girlfriend and I usually order a combination of food and we have not yet been disappointed with what we have received. What can I say about this place that almost everyone else hasn't said? It's Japanese food in Washington, NJ. It's your typical run of the mill Japanese restaurant that serves Chirashi in a cocktail glass (no traditional bowl). The decorations are very elegant. The prices are exorbitant like many other Japanese restaurants like Fujiyama. They serve a few other Asian entrees such as Pad Thai (much more expensive than a real Thai restaurant). I would go back if I'm in Washington and I want to splurge. It's conveniently located in the Shop Rite plaza where the sushi/sashimi is just as overpriced and not as fresh so... This place is the best sushi within a reasonable drive of Washington. I especially like their bean curd skin rolls--give it a try someday. The location is really convenient too: you can order take out over the phone, do a quick grocery run, and then pick it up. Yes it's expensive, but sushi is always expensive. It's not especially overpriced. It's mostly a takeout place and the actual restaurant part is pretty empty. So if you go their with a group of friends, you can pretty much hang out for as long as you want without inconveniencing anyone. It's nice. read more

DISCLAIMER - I added this business on Yelp just to leave a review about how poor my experience there was. Being a Washington native of 20+ years, I was naturally excited to hear a sushi joint was coming to town. I no longer had to buy the average already made sushi at Shop Rite that sits around all day. That being said, I figured I would head out to Masa Sushi with a couple buddies of mine. After being sat down at the bar (645 pm), we waited a solid 10 minutes before our drink orders were even made, but hey, they just opened and were kind of busy so I let it slide. After sitting around for another 20 minutes, our order still wasn't taken, so we took the initiative and told the 2 men making the sushi our orders, since our waitress was nowhere to be found. Another 20 minutes later, she asks us what we want, to which we told her, "we already ordered our food." After over one HOUR, we still hadn't gotten our orders. I just about thought they flew out to Japan to make my sushi. Nothing was beyond reason this point. I almost got up and left until my order suddenly appeared around 8:15 (Mind you, I got there around before 7pm). But wait, I forgot to mention they didn't even bring out my soup and salad that came with my meal until we asked the waitress a couple times for it. Excuse me if I also forgot mention, we all flagged down our waitress numerous times, only to be ignored and left waiting. I went from feeling confused to angry to realizing it was just plain funny how poorly and mismanaged this "business" was. Fast forward and we are finally attempting to pay our check...Remember now, it's funny at this point. We are in a collection of about 7 other people who are also trying to pay their checks, one of which waited over an hour for a TAKEOUT order, and another one of those 7 was snapping iPhone pics of Masa's inspections and accrediting paperwork that could be seen on the wall. Ten minutes later, we finally paid for our food. I walk outside to find more upset customers who waited for their food even longer than I. This wasn't sushi folks. It was a disappointment. I guess I'll just settle for Shop Rite's bland sushi. At least they won't make me wait over an hour for it. P.S. Brush up on your Japanese before you head there, because they can barely speak English and walk away confused if you have a complaint or concern. read more

We just got back from our lunch at Masa, and I have to say I have no intention of returning, mostly for price reasons. We were the only people in the place, and it took about half an hour to get food - not an unsatisfactory wait, but not exactly like lightning. My boyfriend and I each got two rolls and a cup of miso soup. Was the fish fresh? Yes. Was it tasty? Sure. But honestly? It was nothing special. The sushi at ShopRite is just as good. And before tip, we paid 30 bucks for our meal, which would be totally fine... except that it was not enough food. They don't specify how many pieces are in each roll, so I was expecting 8, and instead got 6. Even though I got two rolls, that is fifteen bucks for twelve bites of food, almost a dollar-per-bite ratio. I am a petite, 125-pound woman, and even I went to Quick Chek after my meal and got a sandwich. Sorry Masa, but ain't nobody got time for your overpriced sushi. read more

In an area with limited restaurant options (literally you can pick from McDonald's, Burger King, more Pizza/Italian restaurants than I can count, and a few Chinese food places) Masa Sushi is a welcomed addition! My husband and I decided to give this new place a go last night and ordered take out from them. We ordered around 7pm (during the dinner rush!) and they told us it would be ready in about 25 minutes. He arrived and said they were packed with not a table left. Our food wasn't ready yet so he had to wait a little while before he got it. Honestly I think this is understandable for a restaurant that just opened with many excited people wanting to try it. I'm sure they'll adjust to the volume the longer they are open. After reading a few of the reviews on this place I saw it was mostly priced based complaining, so I decided to give it a try. Glad I did. The staff was very friendly. The food arrived in a timely manner and it was all delicious. We had the masa roll, volcano, Boston, philly, and spider. We were almost fighting for the last pieces. Price. I'm no sushi expert, but a rule I live by 99% of the time is, you get what you pay for. If I'm paying 5$ for a special roll I'm going to be worried about it. Never in my life have I had cheap sushi that was good. So I don't mind paying 10-15$ for a special roll. With that being said, I believe the sushi was worth the price. Was it the best I've ever had? I'm honestly not even sure how a staple would get inside a piece of sushi but that is not even inexcusable considering I paid 70 dollars for a lack of flavor meal. I eat Sushi in many places, for many years. This evening we went to this restaurant and was very disappointed. I typically get a dinner, and maybe a hand roll for "desert". The deluxe sashimi dinner was really no frills, and offered with soup and salad. The soup was watered down, to barely above a bowl of warm water, followed by a tiny bowl of lettuce with dressing on it, and the main course was thinly cut pieces, presented with no artistry, very little taste, and barely fresh. Your actual time in MaSa so far, 20 min. Wait a min, is our ice in our water melting?! Well at least the food is good right? Not exactly, since no one even bothered to take your food order yet. "Did that waitress just ignore me?", you curiously asked me. Before i could politely answer you i attempt to wave down another waitress and am also ignored. Now im confused, Im in a restaurant now for 35 min and i haven't consumed any food yet? Out of an pure act of hunger I stood up and greeted the one waitress and asked , yes i asked if i could place my order to her, as if my business with them kept their business running! So now the waiting game begins, I wish i had a stopwatch for us at the restaurant. Ive seen people perform 5ks in a more efficient rate then we are about to receive our food. Okay okay, So we have our food, finally...wait..didnt this meal we are going to end up paying for in the next 65 min come with a soup and salad prior to me getting the sushi? I should have just let this slide, it ended up in being ignored 5 more times. Did i mention the soda you that ordered was served in a can was flat yet, oh thats right, you told me 50 min ago. At this point, being fed up, we had another friend bring us flares to shoot off to get the waitrsess' attention so we can get our check. The staff is so culturally and verbally disconnected from its own customers, its no wonder they had no idea i was even trying to get there attention the whole night, they didnt even speak English! I could have learned to make sushi, then taught you to make it faster then they ever could have served us. I could of eaten Shop Rites Sushi and convinced myself it was a better sushi and not have waited longer than i would have for any amusement park ride. I wish i knew MaSa was actually short for "Maybe Saturday Ill get my food." This is the perfect spot for a date night or a birthday dinner. This is my favorite restaurant in the area and the food is consistently delicious!
